Re: Review: Pokémon Sun and Moon (3DS)

HandheldGuru97

Wow. Hype mode activate!!!!! Been avoiding the leaks and spoilers, I want to experience the wonder of this game to feel the same way I felt the first time I played Pokémon almost a decade ago. Looks like it will be! Friday can't come soon enough.

Re: Review: Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (3DS)

HandheldGuru97

YES! Finally! God, that nearly three and a half year wait has been murderous...but it is finally here...damn. I knew no matter the score, I needed this game. Glad to see this masterpiece has held up and been remade to such high standards. I can't wait until Friday and until I get to sit down and dive head first into this epic adventure, at long last...

Re: Nintendo Download: 15th September (Europe)

HandheldGuru97

I'm buying DQ VII when it hits the states on Friday. Probably won't get to play it all that much the first week due to school starting, but I'll be damned if I don't get it day one and bask in the glory of holding a Dragon Quest game at long last...too long since the last one!

Re: Yoshi's Woolly World Will Soften Up Your 3DS In 2017, Poochy amiibo Also Incoming

HandheldGuru97

@gcunit Couldn't have said it better myself.
Sometimes I can't tell what I hate more, perpetually negative Nintendo "fans" or the amount of hatred for Nintendo mishandling the Wii U. The Wii U, as has been said time and time again, is dead. Nintendo was unable to make it a major success like the Wii, DS or hell even the 3DS! Does that suck!?!? Yes! But get it over it. What's done is done. They tired their best, but the strategy they were able to use on the 3DS didn't translate to the U (nor did even the relatively limited 3rd party support on the 3DS). It failed and its over, the future (that is whenever Nintendo decides it is right to announce it) is coming. Move on. Much like (I imagine) people here feel like they got ripped off. Nintendo is making these "cheap ports" to try and make some money off of their worst selling console (excluding Virtual Boy) of all time! That is business and Nintendo is a corporation! Enough already!

Ahem, I've been frustrated with the very bitter response I have seen today after this direct. Because over all it was an awesome direct! I did want to get this one on the U (see my Mario Maker is Coming to 3DS article comment for the reasoning), but even with the lesser graphical polish this looks so fun. I can't wait until February for this game.

Re: Super Mario Maker Is Coming To 3DS

HandheldGuru97

I'm down for this! Lack of online sharing is lame, but if Nintendo realizes this was a mistake (on their end) they could patch it in. No amiibo support costumes, is a disappoint, but not even close to a deal breaker.Leaves something exclusive for the Wii U at least. I never got this one on the U so I'm actually pretty excited. Kind of a shame they are putting one over on the U. Both Maker and Yoshi were games I was actively considering buying on the U. Yet...I'm more of a handheld gamer, and my Wii U doesn't see much action sadly. For me, I'd rather play both these games on the 3DS. Definitely will make waiting for the NX/NX news go by quicker!

Re: A New Pikmin Game is Coming to 3DS

HandheldGuru97

There is no way this is Pikmin 4. This looks like a spinoff and the fact that Nintendo didn't name the game (see the end of the trailer), Pikmin 4 right off the bat, but rather said it's, "Pikmin for Nintendo 3DS (name not final)" So I think this was a little treat that Nintendo is probably been working on to give the 3DS a major 1st party swan song. Also it might help Nintendo fight off pressure to release Pikmin 4 in 2017 on the NX, and release it when it's ready in 2018.
Now all that being said, I'll go into this with some skepticism, but it looks pretty solid for an early build and if they work hard to keep the Pikmin sprit alive, I'll grab this one next summer.

Re: Review: The Legend of Kusakari (3DS eShop)

HandheldGuru97

When this was first announced, I laughed, and this game put a grin on my face. I might give this a try! It's an obvious a rift on the Zelda series (and grass cutting), so I think I'll enjoy this. But as others have mentioned the music was...um really bad, so I'll keep the volume down.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)

HandheldGuru97

I knew it. Despite the incredible level of hate (some, justified, most, however really isn't...its just a video game after all guys and gals...) Level Up Games hit it out of the park with Dark Moon. That came was a tour-de-force for the 3DS in 2013 (the year of the 3DS I'd say 😉). Federation Force isn't going to be a smash hit like LMDM was, but still it'll be a good game. I trust Level Up Games...and while this may not be the droids you're looking for...God willing the NX will prove to be a bountiful system for the Metroid series. I'm going read a few more reviews, but I think I'll give this a try. Glad Level Up Games didn't cave to overly angered "fanboys/girls" kept a level head and released a solid enough game!

Re: Multiple Sources Outline a Portable NX With Detachable Controllers, Including a 'Base Station' for TV

HandheldGuru97

As my username suggests, all the NX needs to be for me to be satisfied is a portable unit or component. I saw this comment over on Eurogamer and I think this sums up the situation Nintendo finds themselves in.

"I expect this is Nintendo hunkering down around their proven ~50 million portable loyalists in the medium term, rather than betting on being able to expand on the 12 million or so home console loyalists and compete against two home systems that are deeply entrenched. I've asked the question before: why would Nintendo want to go head to head with a resurgent PlayStation?" -Mr.Spo

As some of the above people have said, and as the post I shared states, Nintendo's strength is handhelds. Every generation since the Gameboy, their handhelds have out sold their console counterpart. Some key examples; SNES 49.10 million to the Game Boy/Game Boy Color's 118.69 million (couldn't find the separate numbers and I didn't want to make anything up.) The Gamecube 21.74 million to the Game Boy Advance's 81.51 million, the GBA to 'Cube is a very similar scenario to 'U to 3DS. A handheld that didn't sell as well as it's predecessor (sorta...as I mentioned in the numbers above) and a console that for all intensive purposes was a failure. This path forward makes the most sense. Nintendo has proven that a dedicated handheld can not only survive, but thrive in this mobile driven world!! Sony is done, the Vita will be their last handheld (and what a great handheld, a damn shame they didn't care about it). Nintendo's only competitor, in theory, is mobile games. Despite that the 3DS hasn't tried to compete with mobile head on. Rather, carve their own niche and survive. If the NX is half of what this rumor suggests, then I think...we have a winner.
Still, we only have rumors and whisperings of what this unit is, and until the word comes from the horses mouth, I'll reserve judgement.

Re: Hands On: Squashing Space Pirates in Metroid Prime: Federation Force

HandheldGuru97

"Whilst every level is designed for co-op there's no instance of multiple players being required to perform a simultaneous action beyond opening a door or finishing a level; as such each mission you traverse is entirely enjoyable as a solo experience as well as a multiplayer one. We wanted to nip that in the bud right away."

Boom. That's exactly what I wanted to hear!!!!! I will likely play mostly solo, but occasionally sprinkle some multiplayer in there...I honestly, think this will be a good game. Not a great one, but a much better game than what was seen and reacted to last year.

Re: Review: Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia (Wii U eShop / DS)

HandheldGuru97

I remember getting this game on my 11th birthday back in 2008...ah, some great memories made with this game, one of my favorites way back when too. Haven't gone back to it in...hell, maybe seven years or so. Probably doesn't hold up nearly as well as my nostalgia for it! Always held out some hope the series would make a return on the 3DS, sadly I think that ship sailed by a long time ago. Maybe I'll swoop this one up though...

Re: Takedown Notice May Spell the End for Digger Dan DX

HandheldGuru97

@ImDiggerDan
Oh man I am, so, so sorry that this has happened to you. Downloaded it in May when it was the launch discount period. Haven't had much time to play it, but I'm certainly going to give it a go today. This absolutely stinks. Once again Dan I am so sorry for this situation, but I myself look forward to giving your game a fair shake! Hang in there.

Re: Splatoon's Last Splatfest is Next Month

HandheldGuru97

I think some people are way over reacting. The Splatfests were always going to end one day. Even if Nintendo never said it explicitly. These kind of in-game events do cost money and programming to execute month after month. Yes, it a little bittersweet, but guys.

IT'S NOT THE END OF SPLATOON

Lemme repeat it, it isn't the end of the game! The severs will still be on when the dust settles on this Splatfest. And good lord above the the tired and true "this is Nintendo shorting us Wii U owners!" Or "Nintendo is abandoning the Wii U for the NX, dooooooooooomed!"
Um, newsflash, Nintendo has abandoned ship for the NX, whatever it is over the Wii U. Again, that sucks, but good God. Get over it. It happens every generation, this one was a little sooner than most, but we had a good run for what it is worth. I haven't played Splatoon in a good while, might fire it up during this 'fest.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Needs To Sell 2 Million Copies To Make A Profit

HandheldGuru97

Two million for a game like Breath of the Wild seems very doable. Now the question is...how much of that is "just" for the Wii U version and for the NX version? No matter what both versions of the game must have cost a small fortune, with the large number of staff, long development period, and (more than likely) trying to re-optimize it for the NX. Still I'll do my part and get two copies (hell maybe three, never know the U version might be worth a pretty penny, like Twilight Princess on the 'Cube is in the future)

Re: Nintendo Share Price Falls to Lowest Point in Over a Year as Global Markets React to 'Brexit'

HandheldGuru97

@ThanosReXXX
You hit the nail on the head. Scotland will certainly go for the second vote for Independence, and this time it'll go through...and if that happens, Ireland will try to take back Northern Ireland, through a vote or at worse force...absolutely shocking, stunning. To my UK friends and acquaintances on here, hang tight, and good luck. Here in the States...Jesus, hopefully we won't make the same disastrous decision come November.

Back to the Stock Market though...I plan on keeping an eye on things for the next few months. Nintendo should be fine, in the long run, but UK, Europe and the Americas will likely see major ramifications from this decision for months to come.

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd June (North America)

HandheldGuru97

Yes! Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky!!!!!!!!!! I might have to pick that one up, absolutely adored Time way back when...crazy it has been that long since I first got it. Never got around to getting Sky when it came out, always planned on it...but didn't happen, now is the time it appears even if it is a little outdated

Re: E3 2016: Nintendo Reveals Ever Oasis for the 3DS

HandheldGuru97

This game looks like a gift from the heavens!!!! Fantasy Life 2.0 (with early Mana series leanings!) and the stylistic choice (Egyptian inspired) is awesome! If 2017 is the 3DS's Swan Song Year, this, Story of Seasons Trio of Towns and (very, very likely since DQVII is out in September), Dragon Quest VIII will make switching straight to the NX harder. Yet, staying on the ole 3DS all the more sweeter.

Re: Nintendo Unveils Massive E3 eShop Sale in North America

HandheldGuru97

Slightly disappointing given what Europe and especially compared to what Japan got. Still, some of the 3DS Pokémon and Zelda VC games that I haven't picked up are mighty tempting at just about $3.20 each, and Terraria is down to $15 on the 3DS as well...might grab that one at that price, seems to be a solid little game.

Re: Video: Take a Good Look at Harvest Moon: Skytree Village

HandheldGuru97

This certainly looks a bit better than the other Harvest Moon game Natsume put out a few years ago. That being said...this is still nothing more than a wolf in sheep's clothing. Story of Seasons Trio of Towns will get my money when Xseed brings it stateside next year, can't beat the original.

Re: No Nintendo Titles In May NPD, But The 3DS Has Now Sold 60 Million Units Worldwide

HandheldGuru97

While people will find some way of complaining, this is a huge milestone for a console that was "totally doomed, expect to see it discontinued next year (2012)" this time five years ago. And it isn't even Nintendo's worst selling handheld. If you break the GBC off from the Original Gameboy it (likely) only sold around 45-55 million or so units.
Also, @Yasume, I have both kits, and I think both library's are pretty solid. Nintendo has always had difficulty getting 3rd parties on board, Sony has never had that problem. Still the 3DS has (and had) some more support from bigger name third party in Japan. Capcom, Sega, Atlus (although I know Atlus has put out some stuff for the Vita, their 3DS output is much larger and more consistent), Bandai Namco Games (although looking close...they've had good support on both systems) and Level 5. Also going by Wikipedia...there are 887 3DS games (download only and retail no VC titles counted), and...1,314 (again, retail and download only, no PSP, PSone or PSNow titles). So the Vita wins there.
But I think both systems deserve recognition for what they both are, unique and excellent handhelds no matter what.

Re: Talking Point: In Praise of the 3DS eShop, Which is Now Five Years Old

HandheldGuru97

Wow. Five years...??? Five years...damn...I still remember that 1st day the eShop launched all those moons ago, got the free Excitebike 3D Classic, Super Mario Land on the VC and Link's Awakening DX a day later (E3 2011, the surprise launch of DX, now that was awesome!) I love the eShop, so so many games (of which like @Spoony_Tech I have barely gotten around to playing many of the ones I downloaded). Yes there are some issues, the lack of crossbuy is slowly driving me insane, some games are over priced (but people, there are plenty of games that are well priced or even better, under priced, than not!)
@Ralizah, Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone is always saying the PSN is better than the eShop, the PS4 is a nightmare to navigate in comparison to the mostly easy navigation of the 3DS Shop. (Vita's PSN shop is my preferred method of Sony digital game hunting, a slight improvement to the PS4)

Re: Gallery: Feast Your Eyes on the Best of the Vans X Nintendo Collection

HandheldGuru97

Yesterday before work I headed over to mall and grabbed a pair of the SK8-HI Reissue Shoes, NES Style. Way more than I've ever paid for (or ever will pay for) shoes, but damn they're awesome!!!! They also fit and feel very nice on my feet, which is a bit of rarity. Very happy to have them, gonna try and keep in good shape for a long time to come

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Nintendo's Expanded E3 Plans?

HandheldGuru97

Jesus, I need to get off this site (and maybe Nintendo focused Internet sites period until post E3), but here are my two cents.
For one I am not defending Nintendo, but I'm going to say that the "argument" that, "Nintendo is doomed for one poor showing," is a very lame excuse to get angry. Guys, WE ARE AT THE TRANSITION POINT meaning we are moving onto the next generation. Yeah, it sucks, the Wii U failed (although it is still a great console with many future classic Nintendo games) and the 3DS is 5 1/2 years old, and has been carrying Nintendo for at least four of those years! That means there are going to be less games, as Nintendo moves onto the NX. I don't know why Nintendo thought not showing the NX at E3 was a good idea, no one does, nor ever will, but they are doing it and there is no changing that. So, it isn't just Zelda, now people complain more, really??? Nintendo is putting their best foot forward. The cupboard is pretty empty, but they are still determined to show something, it isn't much, but is something. Will there be more games? Maybe. New major Wii U games, no, it is dead, finished, over. Sure there will be indie games, but no more Nintendo or major 3rd party titles. 3DS...maybe...some more localizations on the 1st party front (there isn't much left they can localize), but two examples would be Culdcept Revolt or Puzzles and Dragons X. There are a few new 3rd party titles, like Natsume's new Harvest Moon and DJMax Encore (http://nintendoeverything.com/djmax-encore-heading-to-3ds/) have been recently announced. So yeah, it'll be a quiet year-nothing exciting or revolutionary, but unlike so many on here I will watch and see what comes of E3, like I always do.

Re: Gallery: Take a Closer Look at the Pokémon Sun and Moon Legendary Pokémon, Rotom Pokédex and More

HandheldGuru97

The Rotom Pokédex is so clear out of left field, I love it. Super amazing! So far I like what I see of the Alola region, good size (and I think...not 100% sure, but maybe there is some hidden stuff) and good variety. Ever so slightly disappointed that there is still an icy area in Alola, an otherwise tropical region (I've never been a fan of the frigid areas in PKMN games), but there should be some new ice type Pokémon. Looking forward to getting more info at e3!!
