I'm honestly liking the name. Nintendo Switch... Sounds like it could really click with all audiences just like "Wii" without sounding awful. I'm honestly loving this console already!

I'm not seeing how it's a "new concept in gaming". Gameplay-wise it changes absolutely nothing. They basically, as expected, fused together their home console and portable console into one console to strengthen their market because they couldn't live as two separate entities any more. It looks great and it's IMO a smart move, but there isn't anything "new" for gaming here.

Portable Skyrim just sounds really, really good. I need this in my life.

This is exactly what I wanted NX...now Switch to be, an upgraded concept of the WiiU to take my game anywhere I want, both with a "normal" controller and not all that gimmicky stuff. Good job Nintendo! Now...let the 3rd party games flow!

Every time someone in the video went to the TV, they had to plug in the screen. I'm going to be incredibly disappointed if they have 2 screens but can only use one at a time.

The "Nintendo Switch" name is catchy, simple, and casual friendly too imo. Very cool!

So, who is "switching" over from PS4/Xbox One to Nintendo Switch? Lol... JIust joking but i had to say it for the laughs.

I thought it was great. It IS those very first rumours we heard years ago now. No real gimmicks. Yeah, the at home/on the go could be classed as a gimmick, but I don't think developers will alter/spoil games around that the same way motion and second screen features were forced in and ruined some great games. This will just be regular games that stand on their own quality.

I'm not sure it will really be a huge success though. It's still going to mainly appeal to that core of Nintendo users that buys all their stuff. It's like Wii U with the multi platform games.

I sure want it, and as soon as a new Mario and a new Mario Kart are announced it will be mine. I'll start saving money now.

Anyway, I want to put some criticism in what appears to be no significant graphic upgrade. Not that I personally mind, but it surely will damage its reputation and we won't win any Sony fanboy over. I mean, what Nintendo doesn't need right now is to be the laughingstock for its graphics again. Regardless of how fun are its games, which they are.

I hope that what we just saw is simply Wii U footage in order to show backwards compatibility. New Mario game notwithstanding.

So, pretty much exactly like the rumours, which I'm happy about. But, I'm still not sure why having to plug/hide the main gamepad screen part away in the console dock when at home and playing on the TV is a good design choice; it totally eliminates any chance of using the thing like a regular Wii U or 3DS from what I can see, and that would have been a huge selling point for me.

Also, can we even use a stylus with this device and on that screen, because that was also another true strength of the Wii U with games like Super Mario Maker and Art Academy: Atelier for me personally.

The Switch seems like a pretty cool idea but I hope we're not just giving up lots of stuff to get some variety in how and where we play; I kind of believe we could have easily gotten both and that the system would have been even better for it.

I'll need to see more of the hardware/tech and learn more about the games and experiences coming to the system before I finally decide how I really feel about it. . . .

And cue Sony and Microsoft scrambling to copy the Switch concept.

Welp it is exactly what I was hoping it would be, and now I can officially say I am on board as long as the system has a good launch line-up. I wonder if that is the original version of Skyrim or the remastered one because if it is the latter then the Nintendo Switch has some power behind it. Show me the price and it's other capabilities and I think they have day one purchaser on their hands. Hopefully the system is easy enough to plug in to the point that I can bring it to a friend's house so they can give it a try because that would help improve word of mouth substantially.

Is Nintendo finally abandoning local multiplayer? I saw people using more than one at a time in the trailer, I just want to know the logistics.

@Simbabbad I suppose if you can truly play the same games on the go as you can at home as opposed to scaled-down ports on handheld , then that is a new concept. Hard to know without the details on performance. And is it a whole package or can you just buy the portable element?

@Peach64 The lack of multiplatform games is what made the WiiU fail so badly, and the useless gimmick of the huge controller, and the fact that Nintendo could never make "casual" people understand that the WiiU was a different console and not a Wii extension; those things are removed with Switch (showing Skyrim and NBA 2k17 is maybe a glimpse of 3rd party support finally coming).

I love the look and the concept. This is going to be huge. I bet they release a console Zelda bundle with all of the new amiibo. That would be the package I'd choose.

I have exactly the opposite opinion. It looks perfect for children. They do not care as much about high end performance and the ability to take it to a friend's house and play will be very cool for kids. They will do that far more often than adults will!

@Anti-Matter other than the fact that it has a cartridge slot, how is this 3DS backwards compatible? no dual screens so I doubt backwards compatibility, and if it does its gonna be weird like wii U does DS.

Do you also remember my really 1 and only big gripe about this potential system? As a home gamer, why am I paying $50 or $60 for a a screen THEY HID BEHIND A FREAKIN WALL!! Why not save me $60 and make a home version w/o the screen? Or better yet, turn it into a Sony Dash? Or at least a digital clock or photo frame. Why cover it up, that makes no sense.

Also, smaller problem 2, what if 1 of my kids takes my home console someplace? Now each of us has to have one. Which would be fine under $200, but a system, dock, detachable controllers and Pro style controller. that won't be cheap.

So I think it's great, Nintendo should have gotten out of the home console business, and they did, this is a handheld w/ TV out, but I'm not a handheld gamer. My kid swill each get 1, I'm done. I am smart enough to know I'm an old man and not the target audience, videogames are a young man's (and woman's) game, so I think they did everything right, it just isn't for me personally. Their stock should go up. Way up. I'm excited to tell my kids. And to get my PS4.

That was big. They need the sports games (I know people hate them but they are important) so seeing NBA 2K was Important. But to also have Bethesda on board is a very big deal. Add Rockstar and get all this on the market at a reasonable price and this is a definite purchase. Not time for MS to start panicking yet because Scorpio hasn't and won't be given a full reveal for a while, but Sony should be getting nervous.

The small detachable controllers appear to have buttons in the inside. You can see one guy press them to slide in Mario Kart.

And I love the controls for this! One pro style controller that takes the controls off and slides into the portable, and another pro controller that is just your basic controller! Also you can use the controllers you slide out in some games and use those seperately like NES style controllers!

MK8 is an easy port since the gamepad did essentially nothing. Splatoon they would need to re-work the map/super jump controls

It's definitely what most rumors say, and I like it...well, kind of.

I personally wanted the Switch's GamePad to act similarly to the Wii U GamePad, where the player had a touch screen for use during gameplay. Sure, the DS and 3DS exist, but I want to have both a touch screen and the TV, and that's where the Wii U came in for me. I want more input options when I play games on my TV and once again, the Wii U was there for me. But...if the Switch has more than enough innovative features to separate itself from the Wii U, then...I'll be over it.

I wouldn't write it off for yourself yet. Let's see how it's packaged, priced, and sold. It's interesting that there is a controller and there is a dock... could there be a dedicated compatible system that just sits there and never lifts off for a cheaper price? This could be just the start.

Unduly excited for Spla2oon's customisable hair options. As for the console, they seem to more or less have nailed it. Fundamentally what we were expecting, but seemingly very well executed and backed up with... games!

What a nice coincidence for me. I wasn't aware of the announcement for the trailer until just a few minutes before it was released. Initial impression of it is good. The hardware looks well thought out. The sliding mechanism appears good. I'm surprised Nintendo's traditional branding/logo appears absent, even from the dock. I look forward to hearing what the CPU/SoC ended up being. Probably has some impressive passive cooling for something doing games of that level. Also surprisef by the name. I thought they were just going to stay with NX like with DS. Good luck, Nintendo.

Will this replace both WiiU and 3DS?

Geesh nintendo, show us something we didn't already know. It's like a fully realized wiiu - I'll play it like the wiiu probably 90% of the time. It'll be annoying having to pull up another screen to drop ink strikes and super jumps. Not a lot of details, just a bunch of young attractive people. Maybe they were the sources of these rumors - there were quite a few of them, plus all those people on the airplane. Looks like we're getting a sequel to Mario 64. I must admit 3D world has really grown on me. I kind of enjoy it more.

@plug313 I guess that all depends on your perspective. We waited over a year for the reveal of a system we've seen thousands of rumors confirm that it's a hybrid console well beforehand. Looks like a fine system, but's it's nothing new.

I think it may be a day one buy after all.

Well I'm glad it's not called the NX, Switch is much more catchy and to the point of what this console is all about.
I found interesting the basketball scene when the two screens were placed back to back this made me wonder if the player is given there own perspectives when the screens are linked like this. Would be great for sport games FIFA, Tennis etc.
So much to look forward to in the coming months as more detail is released.
Would like to know the price.

Just now, I was sharing a virtual cup of poison with @rjejr in another article. I have to let this settle and I will get back to you when the smoke in my mind has cleared...

Nintendo appeals to fans of Nintendo, i guess. people seem excited here, pretty skeptical over at kotaku. as a newcomer to Nintendo, gotta admit this isn't doing much for me. i'm here for the portability of the 3ds, and i would still rather see a vita-powered (or better) iteration on that than what is likely still an underpowered console. if i'm going to make a major investment, i think i would rather get the ps vr setup.

but i suspect i'm in the minority here.

@cleveland124 Pain is a big word, it's like I always said: it's only a hobby. But there is disappointment, because I want them to succeed and to be taken seriously. And I want my triple A grade console games on my big HD TV. Seems to be okay in that department, but is it enough? Only time will tell.

My first console was the NES, and I cannot remember being this ecstatic about a launch trailer. Nintendo might just have unveiled another revolution in gaming.

It looks quite nice design wise, for once, but I hate the DPad. Also, this isn't exactly a new concept, but a mixmashing of various existing concepts into one almost-coherent package.
Which I honestly prefer over Nintendo flailing about with some over-the-top gimmick that either entertains people for two seconds or confuses them about why it even exists.
For once Nintendo is copying everyone else, especially those devices in the Android space, and they're doing a good of it since they're putting their own DNA in it.

Besides, the name Switch is good. It makes sense and isn't lame like every name from the previous generation. It's like Nintendo drove their old naming team to the forest and then brought in new people who had an actual naming sense.
That said, I'm not getting this at launch. I might not even get it for 3 or 4 years. I've been burned far too many times in the previous generation by Nintendo so I'll be taking a break from buying new stuff. If I wanted Nintendo console games, I already have a Wii U with a bunch of games (that I admittedly can barely muster the strength to play, i.e. it's in another room). Most of Nintendo's home console games aren't something I want to play on the go at the moment. I also already own a couple New 3DS (JP and NA) for Ninty's portable efforts and for the few home console ports like Hyrule Warriors and console-style games like MH that pop up on it.
In 4 years time, the hype and dust will have settled and I'll get a good look at the situation. By then there should be a price drop or two and a new model or two. Games library will be bigger as well, even if Switch flops like Wii U the library will still be better at that time than at launch. All kinks in design should be worked out as well from the revisions, just like how the standard New 3DS fixed most of the 3DS's family HORRID design flaws. The youngest child carries the hope of the entire family this time, it seems.

Until then, my Vita and GPD Win will be more than enough to satisfy my cravings of console gaming on the go (and in bed before sleeping). Of course they won't get (Vita), or at least struggle to play (Win) the latest games that the NX SHOULD have little trouble getting and running (assuming Nintendo doesn't flarb up 3rd party relations YET AGAIN), but eh, those can wait. Hmmm, hmmm, by 2021 there may be the chance that another company other than GPD might make a decently powerful gaming UMPC that can run those 3rd party games at least as well as the Switch....guess it'll depend on price.

I’m genuinely curious to know if you can still use a stylus on this thing; I really hope so because that was one of the great strengths of the Wii U for me personally, especially when utilised expertly with games like Super Mario Maker and Art Academy: Atelier (as a couple of examples). In fact, is that even a touch screen at all, or is it just a regular display?

I really, really like the whole concept but what worries me is that the promo was portable heavy.
It seems to be pitched as a portable first and foremost and by the way it can connect to the TV.

The Nintendo mob will lap it up as they do anything Nintendo but let's see how the internet reacts to it over time.

They killed the WiiU, let's see if they kill or love Switch.

A passively cooled device means there are serious power cutbacks, regardless of the technology in the GPU.

I quite like the concept, but I'd like to know exactly how it works. Personally, I just want a handheld. As long as it works without needing to be tethered to something, I'll be happy, but I don't want it to need Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Of lesser importance, I also wonder how powerful it is compared to Wii U. I can't imagine the handheld alone being more powerful (which is understandable), but if the dock just enhances each game in ways like resolution and framerate, it could be that the console overall is not a step up from Wii U (or even weaker), which would have implications for Zelda.

Even so, very interesting, and I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm not liking the controllers, look so tiny like they were aimed to children. The concept is good but that's what I proposed a long time ago Nintendo should had done with the WiiU.

Well, I want to like this, but as far as I can tell, this is a Nintendo branded and supported Shield device. I already own a Shield device and while I like the idea in theory, they also have too much issues right now (heat development, battery runtime and most of all software support - basically all you get is really old games, or glorified "mobile games").

It doesn't help that Nintendo showed ports of old games like Splatoon and Mario Kart, and a port of a really old game like Skyrim. I don't know how they how they could get most devs to bother to port current PS4/PS4P/X1/Scorpio games to this ARM/Tegra (?) platform ...

@audiobrainiac Those four directional buttons laid out in a typical d-pad formation should be perfectly good for any games that traditionally use a d-pad (both old and new); it's very much like the split d-pad on PlayStation actually. I don't foresee any issues in this regard.

@iGen Pfft there are still plenty of games that will be released on the 3DS, and I'll be buying while I wait for the NX library to grow.

I wonder how much it is going to cost? I think $250 - $300. $50-$60 for an extra controller because that one does not look comfortable. $50 for memory. $150 - $180 dollars for 3 games at launch. So $500 ++++.

Just got in to see this. Firstly, the concept is brilliant. The name is also brilliant. This looks like you can play home console games on the go without any loss of quality of functionality. And it's interesting to see they're targeting people on the move, everyday gamers and the e-sports scene. All good moves.

They've nailed this first step. But we need more details. We need to know the specs, how the hardware actually works, battery life on portable aspects, online capabilities, and most importantly what games are coming to the system. This is an intriguing and potentially incredible system, but there's still more we need to know.

@audiobrainiac Nintendo tries way too hard to alter basic things we all want them to leave alone, while it's all wrapped up in, overall, a rather dull concept. But yeah, this is making me all the more happy not to buy this thing the first year and just get Zelda on Wii U.

Skyrim. It's all happening. There'll be an Elder Scrolls game I can play on the go, read: more often than a couple times a month. So it's already two confirmed open world games to explore at the pace I choose.

So far this all looks... like what I wanted. Like what I've wanted for a long time indeed. Like what Sony has already tried with Vita but without needing to keep the home station running and online (and to have a quality wi-fi connection where you are, too). So far it looks... awesome.

Again guys, i really don't think this is ending the 3ds... i don't see Nintendo doing away with a full portable system.

Looks like a switch back to single-screen gaming, and touch function seems absent. Feels like a downgrade, to be honest. Now there's possibly no reason to think twice about just getting the PC version of some third-party game. And on that, the third-party support shown is unimpressive to me, but I've never cared for Skyrim or sports. I'll wait and see how stuff like Monster Hunter and Etrian Odyssey fare...

I like it a lot and will buy it day 1.

That's exactly why I'm not getting Sun/Moon for 3DS. I'm going to hold out for a year to wait for a potential NX version.

The Switch will be absolutely HUGE in Japan where handhelds rule. Expect Monster Hunter and Pokémon on Switch to be massive.

Elsewhere it will take some time to ramp up. The high-end PS4/Xbox One crowd are not going to get super excited about this unless they buy it as their "other" system for games on the go and the odd big excluiev. However, it will appeal to families (the 3DS crowd) and fans of Nintendo games.

As a 45 year old gamer, that owns every single Nintendo gaming device. All I can say right now is NOPE!

I will not be buying day one. Maybe two or three years done the road I will pick one up for my collection.

Yeah, I could see why you would think that wouldn't sell, b/c, well, it wouldn't. But try this on for size - "it's like 3DS w/ TV out." 3DS sold 60 million, more people would have bought 1 to play some of those games on their TV - Kid Icarus, the JRPG selection, Monster Hunter, Pokemon.

I don't like it personally, I'm not a handheld gamer, I'd prefer Nintnedo save me $60 and take out the screen and portability, not make me pay even more for a wall to hide the screen behind to get TV out, but there are more of them than me, so it will sell better than Wii U and 3DS combined.

Not sold until I hear about the horsepower comapred to PS4Pro/Scorpio, the battery life when portable, and of course the price, but.....

Well, that's a bummer.

The context of that statement was what the project was started for. I recall that people assumed that it was already decided to be a hybrid and that statement is about how that wasn't the original plan and they hadn't decided how to take advantage of that plan yet. It could be combined or separate. Anyway, that's how I read it back when these statements occurred.

As far as lying goes, it would be interesting to examine quite a few of those sources out there.

Looks interesting. And that definitely isn't Mario Kart 8 in the footage; the players have two items and in MK8 you can only carry one at a time.

Not sold on it yet, Nintendo will need to show off more new games (only 1 in that trailer though Splatoon could be a sequel too early to tell), a price and what happens with Wii U for the next 5 months for me to make a decision.

Price is big for me. I have 2 sons. A long time ago I bought a PSP. I brought it back the next day b/c it would only allow 1 account at a time, not many like we had on our PS3. Since this is a handheld first, tv out 2nd, will it allow more than 1 account, or will we need to buy 3 of them like PSP? OK, I guess you're right, maybe that is MyNintnedo related, but I was thinking of NNID, not the rewards program.

@doll Each to their own. While I have been a long term fan of Nintendo, I can agree they've made some muck-ups over the years I've been buying their products.

So, are those detachable controllers capable of even basic motion controls? If not that's Wii compatibility gone out-the-box.

Is that a touch screen and can you use it as a second screen when playing at home at all, i.e. without always having to plug the thing into the dock to get it to run on the TV? If not that's Wii U compatibility with any games that utilise two screens gone out-the-box. And does that also mean you couldn't even play a title like Super Mario Run on it, despite the core tablet looking exactly like a traditional tablet/smartphone? Seems like a strange decision/omission if that's the case.

Can you use a stylus at all on that screen? If not that's potential Wii U and even DS/3DS compatibility gone out-the-box for a whole bunch of titles too.

Is the Switch basically a very underpowered home console combined with a very powerful portable (with a few possible configurations) and little more?

I wanted a system that combines those two things, home console and handheld, BUT I didn't want to lose all that other great stuff in the process (stylus input, touch, dual screen, etc). I honestly believe the Switch could have given us both (all), and it not doing so (if that's the case) just makes it feel like the Wii and Wii U all over again to me, where the gimmick on one hand is cool, potentially very cool, but not at the cost of all the other stuff I absolutely want too (and quite reasonably could have gotten with a few slight tweaks to the basic design here and there).

In a vacuum the Switch is a great little device in its own right, but Nintendo now has such a history of both great and unique consoles to build on and leaving them behind in many important ways isn't the dream for me personally. And the Switch also isn't competing in a vacuum so it can't just be a great little device in its own right; I don't think that will be enough to make it a success in the extremely competitive current gaming market. It's basically needs to be the be-all-and-end-all of Nintendo console systems (which now happens to be a hybrid) with no major compromises (at the very least not when compared relative to Nintendo's own previous gaming systems).

Maybe Nintendo will reveal that all of that stuff is still possible and it's not basically making a whole bunch of the same kind of mistakes again (as I see them at least); I guess I'll see. . . .

@freaksloan I'm always impressed how people can develop such conviction about product purchases after seeing precious little information. "Day 1" comments often also fall into this category.

I find it hard to understand how the concept of unclippabe controllers (that don't ever need to be used thanks to the Pro Controller) are so reviling that, no matter what games are released for the console, you're going to unconditionally boycott it for 2 to 3 years.

Between the Pro Controller and the TV Base Station, there's no need to think of it as any different from any home console released ever. We don't know the game lineup. But for some reason, the existence of various optional functionalities is off-putting enough that you can confidently commit to not buying the system for several years. It seems very odd.

It might have all the games you love, and be playable the same way you've played any other game. But for some reason, that's been overridden by some playing options you don't have to ever think about.

It's a Vita... with more breakable parts.

@liljmoore how is a portable console a "new concept" exactly? This is basically a portable console that can plug on a TV, period. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's not a new concept, Sony did it with their brand for years.

@Moon Good questions. There was slightly suggestive language in the nvidia blog page about how they are the core technology in the switch. Nothing concrete, but it seems like it might be possible to cool better and get better performance.

NO TOUCHSCREEN!? For me that's a big step backwards, especially for a handheld, but then again I can see them purposefully not showing it to keep the message simple and on point: the console experiences you love (dual analog games on one screen) be brought to the toilet...err... rooftop cafe and played with local multiplayer. That's very solid. Still, from the handheld perspective we've been going backwards in innovative, unique gameplay-hardware since the DSi, losing most stylus and touch based games, dual screen emphasis, and now possibly 3D tech, AR, and touch altogether? I don't love that.

There is that big flat space between the Joy-Cons on the standard dock which could very well be touch sensitive, and the material on the Pro looks very distinct if final build. Hmmm....

Bummed that pico projector rumor didn't pan out, but new Splatoon footage made up for it. So fresh!!!

Nintendo Switch.. we took the Wii U, removed the touch screen, dual screen play, motion controls and made the controllers detachable and we will sell it to you as a good thing - Nintendo.

Pretty much exactly what everyone expected. Personally, I couldn't care less about portable gaming so this new concept doesn't do anything for me. Still holding out hope that the base unit is more than just a dock and will include an additional processor to improve the fidelity of games when plugged in. I will still get one because I am a life-long Nintendo fan and love their games, but I was hoping for something a little more traditional. I am glad to see, however, that it's generating a lot of excitement among gamers.

I dont feel as WOWED as i wanted to, i do like it, but need to know more about it, need to see more games. I know this is just a brief first look to shut the world up, but it just didnt meet the wait or the hype for me. Show me Metroid and ill change that in a heartbeat.

No way in hell anyone is playing NBA 2K on those portable "controllers" lol but nice attempt, Nintendo.

If I end up getting one, this thing will be docked near my TV 95% of the time.

@rjejr Haha Yes, I was just running through things that I'd like to know about. I was thinking, will the MyNintendo strategy change and really come into its own with Switch? I hope so because at present, it's a little lackluster to the say the least. How will it integrate with my current games too? Lack of touchscreen would rule out backwards compatibility, so any deal to transfer over to Switch equivalents? I don't want to buy all those games again, but if there were upgraded versions of some games I might buy those providing the price and experience were good enough.

@Ed_Fairway right, i'm not down on anyone who's excited about it, just not necessarily the person who is committed to all things Nintendo. i'm a relative newcomer, so i want to know more before i'm convinced.

i honestly hope it's a success for them, tho. i think that would be great after some rough years. variety in gaming is a good thing.

@atariman This won't play PS4 games on a handheld. PS3 maybe. So better than 3DS in terms of power, but slower than a PS4 for a home console. You'd be lucky to get 5 hours battery life too.
It's a kneejerk reaction to mobile and most of the use cases in the trailer are plain silly.

I do wonder if 3rd party support will again just pretty much consist of ports of old games, which may not sell too well due to the price difference, but I guess will be helped by the fact they'll be fully portable.

@gcunit If it could, you would think they would have showed that in the video. It seems strange that they wouldn't. Also the Breath of the Wild demo had no second screen map. The evidence is against it.

Personally, I think these are good things, a complete break from Wii and Wii U. I'm very very very excited for this!!!!

@ThanosReXXX Masses of details still to come, but I think a discussion of the specs and the actual playability versus cost will be important in seeing this fly or flail with certain markets. I might love the idea, but there are other markets and I'd find it interesting to see what those demographics think. Can it compete? Does it have to?

@Sakura Don't know about cost, but if it contains an X2 chip, then the $299 - $349 price point might be correct. And I'm not convinced yet on it competing. Depends on how all this third party support pans out. The list of third parties is quite a lot bigger than with the Wii and Wii U, but we'll first have to wait and see what comes of it.

Just by looking at the game developers confirmed, there is a lot of great potential games that could come to this system: GTA, Bioshock, Skyrim, Fallout, The Evil Within, DOOM, Dishonored, Wolfenstein, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, EA Sports Games, Star Wars Battlefront, Battlefield, Titanfall 2, Mass Effect, Dark Souls, No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw, Killer 7, Metal Gear Solid, Bayonetta, Sonic the Hedgehog, Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs 2, Paragon.

That is a great amount of third party games to choose from, so lets hope people actually buy the system and support the third party this time around, so we can get great third party games for this system.

It looks pretty nice. But hardcore gamers will stick with PS4. And most parents will prefer to buy their kids a chinese 50-100 euro tablet. Wii was damn cheap, thats why it was a success. I don't know how many people will be able to afford to spend 350-400 dollars to switch...

Uhhh. Let me get this straight. It plays games on TV as a console. It does everything any other console does. With console graphics and pro controller like any other console.

But the fact you're getting MORE bang for your buck by being portable also, that suddenly categorizes it as handheld and therefore it's not for you???

This thing does everything a console does and more. But because it does more, you don't want it? It has a zillion times the support of the last Nintendo console, which you bought.

I don't get it. Yes this is a handheld, but that doesn't mean it's not a console. The two are not mutually exclusive with Switch. So saying "I'm not a handheld gamer". That's great. You don't have to be. Cause this is every bit as much a console as it is handheld

The NVIDIA Tegra announcement (hopefully X2, if it's X1 then it will be immediately obsolete) confirms that the NX will not compete for power, once again. (And no, I'm not going to use the Switch name... Just going to keep calling it NX)

However, since it will be a (sort of) home console, (sort of) portable console, and (mostly) mobile device all in one, this is understandable. So it really is more of a hybrid device, rather than a family of devices for each role. Instead, there will probably be different specs offered in the "family" line.

@A01 Re-watch the trailer! It looks lower resolution on handheld (most likely the scale Down Tech to optimize battery life), but when it's docked and switches to the TV it definitely looks like the New upscaled Skyrim!

Glad to see like Bethesda is in there as a developer.

I really want to play their games, but my current PC can't handle them :/

Hoping for Dishonored 2, Fallout or DOOM (even if it's a bit of a stretch :<)

The Splatoon that is shown is also at least an updated version. (Along with Mario Kart which shows King Boo and two item slots) The Inklings have different "hair" styles! I've been very skeptical about this system, after all, I'm nowhere near being done with my Wii U and 3DS, and I'm very sad to see them die, but I'm suddenly excited for this. I hope the battery life is insane in this thing.

Apart from the lack of Wii/Wii U stuff in the presentation, no double screen or stylus... so backwards compatibility with DS/3DS software would be out of the question, either through carts or emulated? (Don't know if that screen has touch sensors.)

Are you and @Sakura discussing power as well as price? That huge cradle must have another Tegra chip in it for TV out, thing is freaking huge. Heck, it's even bigger than I said a home console would be, so it must have a N64 RAM pack like device in it running SLI. Would 2 X1 chips be cheaper and more powerful than 1 Parker?

Where that $50 or $60 screen we are paying for will be sitting behind a wall. It's not even showing us the time or weather or Miiverse or which friends are online. Nintendo is making us pay for a screen, and making us pay for a dock to block that screen, when we play on our tvs.

Sorry, I know we're not on speaking terms, but everybody else is so happy to be playing on the go, not too many home gamers here, that sentence caught my attention.

@gcunit I really do hope so, but not seeing it anywhere in the video, just like I couldn't see any stylus or slot for a stylus on the device or even any examples of using the screen for touch at all, makes me think probably not.

@PlywoodStick The Nintendo Switch uses the latest NVidia Tech based on Pascal architecture!
So, when docked and you play on TV it will be at least on par with XboxOne and PS4, most likely even matching the upcoming PS4 Pro, which will have performance similar to the GeForce 1060 GFX card. ( 4,2 TFLOPS )

@Ed_Fairway Just saw someone in the Nvidia forum say that it is apparently confirmed to be based off of Pascal/X2, so that price point does seem fair indeed. Not sure until officially confirmed, though. X2 was kind of expected if it was going to be Nvidia, though. X1 is much too old and if they wanted to make third parties happy, it had to at least be on par with Xbox One and this will do that.

@impurekind To a certain extent, I'm holding out some hope that the video was made using a prototype that doesn't necessarily fully represent the finished design.
