A little while ago it came out that Vans was collaborating with Nintendo on a new range of sneakers, with some rather cool designs on show. There's now finally been a press release to confirm more details on the range and a release date - the Vans x Nintendo Collection will start to hit stores in the US on 3rd June, and "international retailers throughout the month".
It seems like the collection is going to have a lot to it beyond the rather neat sneakers; a whole load of accessories will be part of the range, which shows that this is no half-hearted promotion. Plenty of details are in the press release excerpt below.
The Vans x Nintendo Classic footwear assortment kicks off with four variations of the Authentic silhouette. Travel to the Mushroom Kingdom for the first colorway, the Super Mario Bros. Tie-Dye, which showcases an all-over character print of Mario alongside several "power-ups" and the villainous Goomba over an 8-bit tie-dye pattern. A second color-up features the original damsel in distress, Princess Peach, awaiting rescue from her brave hero. Duck Hunt comes to life atop a digi-camo backdrop featuring the hunting dog and flying duck, and the final execution of the Authentic is an ode to Donkey Kong and incorporates imagery from its first level to present the title character in a unique floral arrangement. Vans' iconic lace-free silhouette, the Classic Slip-On, appears in the sneaker lineup with graphics and quotes from The Legend of Zelda. A Sidestriped trio of the Sk8-Hi, Old Skool and Sk8-Hi Slim for women pay homage to the NES with prints and colors inspired by the console. Lace-up styles are trimmed with special details, including Nintendo game logos on the tongue label and NES controller lace caplets. For the greatest feature, kick up your heels to reveal Vans iconic waffle sole printed with 'Game Over!'
To present a throwback-styled, head-to-toe look, the Vans x Nintendo collaboration extends into apparel and accessory items for men and women. Co-branded tees, backpacks, bags, socks and hats are offered in prints that tie back to the Classic footwear.
Vans invites the newest generation to join in on the fun with sneaker styles sized down to youth and toddler fits. Tiny tykes can get their hands on patterns designed just for kids with characters from Mario Kart and Super Mario across the Sk8-Hi Zip, Classic Slip-on and Authentic.

I'm so ready!
WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT
Whens UK release? If any?
Looking forward to some of these, have already ordered those Zelda swim shorts from Merchoid so kitting myself out with Nintendo themed clothing for summer!
FYI Nintendo, you could have done this years ago. Think of all that money you've been missing out on!
I feel like I need those NES kicks.
@Bunkerneath The PR says "throughout the month" internationally, so hopefully in the next few weeks
Definitely excited for the tie dye and Princess Peach shoes, but I don't know if my wallet can take it.
@Bunkerneath Schuh have tweeted that they're on sale on Friday in store and online! So looks like not long to wait in the UK!
I've seen some VERY cute Yoshi ones online that are tempting me..
i want the yoshi and princess peach ones.
Wish there was a Luigi pair, but nevertheless, these look awesome!
Oh man. I've been needing some new shoes. Looks like I'm about to get like five pairs!
I'm in love. If you're like me, you can go to the website (http://www.vans.com/nintendo.html) and sign up for an email alert about availability. I definitely want to see links and prices ASAP for this stuff, as it looks fantastic. Loving the Yoshi shoe and the Zelda one shown from the top-down perspective in the top image (not the side-view one, though).
As someone who is always wearing camo shorts, the Duck Hunt ones seem like a sure buy me as it is colour coordinated.
And my unhealthy obsession with Peach will lure me to those Peach ones, but I'd never wear them!
Jesus, I need the Peach and Classic Mario ones like I need air to breathe.
If only I weren't broke atm... it's not a limited collection, is it? D-: Anyway, glad Nintendo seems to hustling out their brand power more.
But that's before I get paid. Oh well, looks like I'm dipping into my savings. It is an emergency situation after all.
They're on the Vans website now! £52 for the Authentics (Duck Hunt, Princess Peach, Mario tie dye, Zelda) which is the same as their other collaborations (Disney, Star Wars, etc).
I'm hoping to pick up a pair of Duck Hunt Vans on Friday!
Nice. Too bad they went with vans, though. I can't stand those types of shoes. Maybe if I had money to spare, I'd buy a pair just to display. lol
I'm gonna be soooo broke.
@Mogster Nintendo has been releasing clothing for years. This isn't even their first shoe run.
Friday, hm....and it's payday! I've needed a new pair of shoes for a while...these will do, might get a shirt or some flip-flops to go with.
Better pick up a pair before Nintendo sends a C&D. /sarcasm
ow,i love these!
OK, I need to get me a pair of those Duck Hunt ones!
Those NES hi tops and Zelda slip ons just cost me £112. This is one of the many, many reasons why I'm single.
Already got a pair on the way, if you signed up early, u get 24hour exclusive access before launch 2moro Fri 3rd Though all the good ones were gone very early, got a pair of the NES high-tops. Hopefully more stock 2moro, and US site launches 2moro as well, for those with a bigger shoe size than UK 12
Well I tried to order some last night but the site kept leading to a blank screen during payment. Even Paypal came back as rejected...figured it was a traffic issue. All styles I wanted are now out of stock in my size.
It's like the amiibo crisis all over again.
@Baker1000 Might be worth looking at Schuh's website or Foot Locker. They had the Duck Hunt ones I wanted in my size that were sold out on the Vans site.
Schuh have some exclusive designs. Really nice ones featuring Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Toad and black and white Mario villains, Bio, Goomba, Chaincomp etc. Makes up for some of the nicest designs being child size only.
Wow, I wish people got this excited about announced games coming to Nintendo platform as they do these ugly shoes.
Glad you people are going to buy them, Nintendo needs to make money. Buy some for yourselves, your friends, your family, your dog. Buy them all! Just don't buy them for me, lol.
