It's the start of another week, and that means we can check out details on the Nintendo Download Update goodies heading to Europe in the coming days. The stand-out is a long awaiting localisation coming to retail on 3DS, while the Wii U Virtual Console adds a first-party DS game to its line-up. There are a number of interesting download-only titles up for grabs too, along with the usual batch of discounts and 3DS HOME Themes. Let's get to it.
Wii U eShop
Gear Gauntlet (Crystalline Green, €9.99 / £7.99) - Originally released on Xbox One, the aim here is to rush through courses while also quickly pushing face buttons when hit by a colour-coded dead end. It's fast-paced and rather tricky, but could well be worth a look; we'll get into gear and bring you a review.
Grand Prix Rock 'N Racing (EnjoyUp Games, €4.95 / £4.45 until 22nd September, then €7.99 / £7.19) - The latest in the Rock 'N Racing series, this time around focusing on F1-style cars; you'll be able to customise your car, tackle local multiplayer and compare times through online leaderboards. We'll see whether this deserves a podium place in our review.
Aenigma Os (Akies Games, €6.49 / £4.99) - A match-3 puzzle game, at least on the surface, this one promises a relatively lengthy campaign, challenge levels and local multiplayer. We'll bring you a review soon.
Brick Breaker (Sanuk Games, €4.99 / £4.49) - It's a classic formula, which Sanuk Games doesn't deny is at the core of its offering. It does boast of a 100 level campaign, the usual blend of bonuses and traps, and local multiplayer options. We'll see whether it breaks our will or brings a welcome dose of nostalgia in our review.
MikroGame: Rotator (Studio de la Torre, €1.99 / £1.89) - A quickfire rhythm-style game in which you rapidly follow button prompts to progress through a tunnel-like course of platforms. We're still working on a review for this one and will share it with you as soon as possible.
SHOOTY SPACE (RCMADIAX, €2.99 / £2.69) - A shmup in which you try to accumulate as high a score as possible, with the option to jump right back in when you see the Game Over screen. We'll blast some foes and bring you a review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Metroid Prime: Hunters (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99) - The Wii U eShop already has the outstanding Metroid Prime Trilogy available to download, and now we can complete the set with this DS release. It was a tentpole reveal and release for the DS hardware, even if the end result didn't quite have the scope that the developers at NST initially planned. Nevertheless it's a DS Metroid game, and one we gave a modest recommendation in our Wii U Virtual Console Metroid Prime: Hunters review.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (Square Enix / Nintendo, €39.99 / £34.99) - A much anticipated localisation, this remaster overhauls the visuals of the original while still offering the same enormous adventure. In the coming week we'll have a review and more to share with you, but until then you can check out our first impressions from earlier in the year. Available from 16th September. Download purchases include free DRAGON QUEST VII Bonus Theme until 31st March 2017.
3DS eShop
Splat the Difference (Lightwood Games, €5.00 / £4.50) - Often associated with word games, this time around Lightwood Games is sharing its own colourful twist on 'spot the difference', where you mark the screen with splats of paint. Also supports local multiplayer for four with Download Play, we'll see whether it's an artful release or otherwise in our review.
New Nintendo 3DS eShop
Futuridium EP Deluxe (MixedBag Games, €7.99 / £5.99 until 22nd September, free if already owned on the Wii U eShop under the same Nintendo Account, otherwise €9.99 / £7.99) - This futuristic and high-speed title has you flying and shooting through a variety of colourful environments, with the promise of 60fps with 3D enabled. Think of a faster Star Fox with elements of the Death Star run from the first Star Wars movie, and you're going in the right direction; we liked this in our Futuridium EP Deluxe Wii U review, but will take a separate look at the New 3DS version.

Already own Futuridium on Wii U so will grab for 3DS.
Tempted by the Kemco discounts but still need to grab last week's discounts after payday; plus I got plenty of JRPGs to get through.
Nothing. Results speak for itself
I'm just gonna watch some paint dry until some good games come along.
Nothing for me this week.
@ThomasBW84 You left out the Just Dance 2017 Demo for Wii U. You know what, I don't blame you, I'd do the same.
Dragon Quest VII is the cool release of the week. Finally it is here, hopefully soon next year also VIII will come.
Futuridium crossbuy is excellent deal. All cross platform games should do that, there is no reason not to do it. Except in the case of Nicalis games which have been released on both platforms. Tyrone never wants people to have fun with crossbuy.
Dragon Quest VII if I don't get it physically.
DQ VII psysically for me. I may just get Yo-Kai Watch too if the discount is great!
Why buy hunters with no online!
Yeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing...
Is the DLC add-on content for Phoenix Wright a new case?
Wait... Shooty Space? I'm afraid Flappy Bird started a naming convention and it needs to stop.
Once again, nothing.
Wait! No Super Castlevania 4????
So much disappointment
Might just get futuridium then
@BensonUii Especially annoying this week as the US have just got Super Castlevania IV!
I will get a physical copy of DQVII once I'm done with Spirit of Justice.
@BulkSlash
Equally annoyed NA still doesn't have Pokemon Snap, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Zelda Majora's Mask, Animal Crossing Wild World, Kirby Canvas Curse, Zelda Spirit Tracks and Mario vs DK games on Wii U VC that EU has.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Hey, now. We could be getting our first look at an uncontrolled NX game...
I find the character designs for Dragon Quest off-putting. Nothing for me.
On the fence with Dragon Quest. Never played a game in the series before, might be a good starting point with this remake. Visually appealing and the RPG elements are attractive.
Disappointed that the other Sega 3d classics weren't on sale from Thursday
Been eagerly waiting for Dragon Quest. I was sorely disappointed by Bravely Second, so it's gonna be nice to go back to some old school Square Enix goodness.
Glad to see a fairly large support for Dragon Quest. We need to make that a global series rather than just a japanese one.
Metroid Prime Hunters only.
I'm hyped for Dragon Quest VII.
I want Dragon Quest, but I shouldn't touch VII until I've played the previous six. I'm new to this series.
@Don Woah, you're really missing some good ones there, that's a real pain!
I don't understand why Nintendo keep the regions so separated like this. It makes it much harder for everyone to get excited about a game if half the community has already played it or isn't due to get it for another 6 months.
Wait, how does the thing with the Ace Attorney themes work?
Can't wait for Friday when DQVII drops in the US
@Ruffy005 it's on the North American New 3DS eShop, it was released Sep 8th.
BioShock over Dragon Quest, I guess. Tbh, I am so sad DQ8 won't come until next year, my mind chose to forget DQ7 was even a thing.
Tempted by Futuridium.
@Phil_Kavadias Not sure what you're going on about. The games goes for €30,-. The DLC case for a couple of bucks extra is still a steal.
I'm buying DQ VII when it hits the states on Friday. Probably won't get to play it all that much the first week due to school starting, but I'll be damned if I don't get it day one and bask in the glory of holding a Dragon Quest game at long last...too long since the last one!
Nintendo needs to permantely ban RCMADIAX from all Nintendo platforms.
I'll buy Yo-Kai Watch, and Dragon Quest when it's on sale.
When's the Dragon Quest review due, anyone at NLife?
And now Europe is only missing the original trilogy to have officially received all the Dragon Quest games America has gotten. (though unfortunately said original trilogy doesn't look likely to appear anytime soon )
@Dezzy It'll probably take them until next year to finish the game, from what I hear of the PlayStation original.
@KingMike
The review copies were given out about a month ago I believe to account for that.
@GoldenGamer88
Bioshock AND Dragon Quest are the first games I'm buying for about 6 months! Lol.
DQ7 and MP Hunters for me this week.
@Popful You can start the series with any game. Personnaly, I would recommend Dragon Quest IX, but I suggest you to look at the dragon quest reddit. The stickied post says really all you need to know about the series and the game (without spoilers).
@dizzy_boy I understand if rpg's are not your think but suggesting that dragon quest seven is bad is simply incorrect.
@faint I'm sorry, did my opinion offend you. Next time I'll be a good little sheep and follow the herd.
Dragon Quest VII retail version.
Futuridium EP looks great. Really diggin' the "Minter" vibe. My only concern is that it'll be too much based on memorisation and twitch reflexes to be any fun. I love shooters, I really really do, but if I had to memorise patterns, I'd rather memorise a Cave game. It looks great though, I need to investigate more on that.
@dizzy_boy we'll have you played one?
@merrygorndoflife
Okay. Thanks for the info.
Still playing xenoblade.this emptiness means nothing to me 😉
Got bored of waiting for GameCube games so hacked my old Wii... You know the rest happy for the time being
31st March 2017 the confirmed nx release date thanks square
@Dezzy Mate, your picture is great.
@Kyoto i would to but then i would be broke lol
@faint no,I'mn not interested in rpg's.
I've seen enough youtube vidoes to know what Dragon Quest is like.
@BensonUii its still a good game is why
@Alexkidd1985 cheap ass
@dizzy_boy don't follow the herd.but remember just cause you don't like something doesn't mean it aint good is all he was saying
Nothing, nothing here looks tempting to pull me away from Xenoblade. Oh well keeps my pocket healthy come November.
@Hallsy from what I hear VIII is a better jumping in point, people say VII is insanely long and more old fashioned. Saying that, this looks to have been remade from the ground up whereas VIII is merely a shrunken down port of the PS2 game so maybe that'd sway your decision?
@Alexkidd1985
You can hack your Wii U in very similar ways. Youtube is your friend.
@BensonUii @Kyoto the nintendo website and NintendoLife don't show the discount for me. Can either of you tell me how much the game is now? LEvel-5 game sales are very rare, I hope the eShop version goes on sale here in the US as well!
@russellohh We won't know until it goes live this thursday I guess. We'll see!
@Lynox ah thats right! the American eshop announcement only goes out a few hours before the sales go live, i forget the UK one is 4 days ahead of time.
@davidevoid thanks for the recommendation. I've heard this game is an intimidating 100+ hours long, though I'm wanting a good meaty RPG to grind away at a few nights a week on my 3DS. It's a choice between this and the the bravely series, which I haven't tried yet, though I've heard just as good opinions on it. I'm liking the artwork for this game and I've wanted to give a DQ game a go for a while, might have to take the plunge.
Time to get Conveni Dream, and Dragon Quest physically.
