@Jeyl Give it a few months, a year at most, and you should be able to buy a backup eventually. I'm pretty sure they said the same with some of the other controllers initially. They're just wanting to make sure enough people can get them at launch and aren't scalping them.
If you read the details people, there is precisely ONE game that is 100% known to be incompatible at this stage and that is the Labo VR it because "Switch 2 console cannot be inserted into the Toy-Con VR Goggles accessory." Seems reasonable enough! lol
There are a few that are up in the air, but it appears that they working to get that corrected. Honestly, it is impressive that Nintendo has already done this much work to make sure games are compatible!
@FaroreAbhorsen I could see them making it available for Mario Party or Mario Kart. It only applies to local wireless, so it's not like it would eat into their sales for online multiplayer. It would be a really small subset and honestly could promote sales if people sort of "demo" a game with their friends.
That being said, with those two games--Mario Kart in particular--I think there's a chance it may not be technically possible for Gameshare to work since there would be so much resource-intensive and synchronous stuff going on in the game. Of course, my expectation is that these would be very minimal implementations that have to downloaded on the other Switch devices. If they're a larger download, then I suppose it could still be possible!
People are talking about all of the toxic possibilities of this, but is this even available for general online stuff? I don't know if the specified, but I figured this is the kind of thing you'd use with your group of friends you're playing with remotely. It fits this generation perfectly. I guess I'm getting old at this point so I may be off on this, but is it not pretty common to sit in a voice chat room with friends while playing a game? This seemed targeted exactly at that group.
@ManaOwls I am left scratching my head after your comment... Did we even watch the same stream??
I hear your complaints, but for me 95% of your issues are pluses in my mind. And I DEFINITELY saw plenty of the Nintendo charm and magic in this video.
Also, what is up with all these people saying they don't want to get out?? Did the pandemic really make it so that everybody is now a homebody? Or have we just become really lazy?
People need to get over themselves. (Insert comment here about back in my day all demos were in person.) I'm sure Nintendo will release an eShop demo eventually. They probably just have an exclusive deal with Best Buy for now.
@JimNorman that's cool that you mention GG. I don't meet a lot of people that are familiar with it, but it seems to be growing in popularity. Do you have a profile I can follow?
Oh man, this was kind of corny, but at the same time you got a fair number of good chuckles out of me! Keep up the satire, Evan! I look forward to seeing more funny business like this.
> As for this whole concept, one issue in our short time with this app (apart from it wanting to record audio), was how it requires players to sleep with their phones right next to them.
I'm guessing the author of this piece hasn't really utilized other sleeping apps? Unless you have a smart watch to track your heart rate, these apps use the mic and motion sensors to detect how much movement/noise you make and therefore what part of the sleep cycle you're in. To my knowledge, it's the only way for a phone app (by itself) to track your sleep, other than using a few other cues like light in the room and if your phone is actively being used.
@MrGawain Is your comment supposed to be a dig at the game for using something from Stephen King instead of coming up with their own stuff?
If it is then I just want to set the record straight: the game didn't copy an idea from King (to my knowledge at least), they just quote him at the intro. Wake is a writer himself, so he literally says something along the lines of: "Stephen King once said..."
It's meant to be that Alan Wake is talking about his horrific experiences in the story of the game and is drawing a comparison with something King said.
It was only a matter of time until someone decided to rick roll everyone once this was discovered. And now that it has been accomplished, we can call this game complete.
@KryptoniteKrunch YES. I feel you 100%! At least the biggest chunk of change is coming out of my bank account this Friday so that it's spread out a little... lol
@Inkless Do you have any amiibo? Cause if not, I tell you these later releases have been very detailed and nice looking. Imo, just having them as collectibles is worth the price alone. For me, what they can do in a game has always just been a bonus.
Thanks for doing this, guys! One thing that attracted me to Nintendo Life in the early days of the 3DS was that your site had reviews of super obscure DSiware games when nobody else had them.
So I know it doesn't always bring in the clicks, but please try to review no-name games when you can!
This is is just crazy. Pokemon Go has already been struggling, but this is like Niantic WANTS their app to die!
People in my area (metro of a smaller US city) often use remote raid passes in order to be able to invite enough people to be able to take on a really strong Pokemon. With these changes, I think we're going to see a dramatic reduction in the number of raids that actually see participation--at least in my area anyway. Limiting the number per day is one thing, but increasing the price is just ridiculous.
I'm guessing Niantic is hoping the changes they've made to make it easier to see who is in a lobby and how much time they have left before it starts along with Campfire (their maps/communication app) will offset some of these changes, but I just don't think it will be enough.
People are really down on Pratt, but I feel like Rogen is the real crime. His voice is a terrible fit imho and hearing his iconic laugh was just jarring in the trailer. That being said, at least he's honest...
@hypercoyote I've gotten that impression as well, but I'm still not 100% certain on it...
EDIT
Found this information on Eurogamer:
"Since Niantic has confirmed there will be 'multiple opportunities to receive a code throughout the broadcast', you don't have to watch from the very beginning."
Man, honestly there are so many stories from the Bible that could make for some really cool games! (Not saying this feels into that category necessarily.) It would be hard to do it right without coming across as sacrilegious, but I think it could be possible.
We just need real games and not the cheesy, knockoffs of other games they did in the 90s. I'm looking at you Bible Adventures. Lol. (Though I seem to remember thinking Catechumen looked decent.)
Sweet! I already have both the original and the remastered versions on my Xbox, but I'm excited to hear that more people will have an opportunity to experience this story.
After replaying it recently, I must admit that there are aspects that don't hold up perfectly and the gameplay feels a bit clunky at times. But it's probably not any worse than other 360 games from the same era.
I really enjoy Remedy's unique form of storytelling and have just started Control after finally playing through Quantum Break a few months ago. So if you haven't tried Alan Wake, definitely give it a shot, people!
@Silly_G Well, if you're interested, I could try to locate one near me and send it to you if you're willing to pay the extra cost for shipping it to Australia. I don't have the faintest idea how much that would be though, and if it would be worth your while.
@Silly_G Man that's rough! Like @DogDetective indicated, the Loftwing amiibos are pretty easy to find here in the states. I was surprised to see them at Target, in fact, because ours had gotten rid of their amiibos stock as well. My only reliable place to shop for them in person was Best Buy and even that appeared to be diminishing.
However, ever since the Loftwing amiibos both stores have started carrying them more... Especially more recently with the Kirby restocks. It has me a bit excited about amiibo again!
Anyway, have you looked to see if you can purchase online from someone in the states? Since they're fairly plentiful, I can't imagine the prices would be significantly jacked up.
K-2 is great and you gotta love his sardonic attitude, but after playing Jedi Fallen Order and getting to know BD-1. Gotta say he is by far the BEST droid!
Thanks for this article! I appreciate your attempt at writing something in a fairly balanced way, as all of the shouting that everyone else is doing does not help me to understand what this is all about.
That being said, I agree with most on here that the whole idea of NFTs for the most part is a silly idea. I don't understand the idea of creating this false ownership of a digital item (especially when it comes to things like images!) that can easily be duplicated. I can say I have unique ownership of this special edition jpg, but if joe blow down the street made himself a copy of it then what really is the point?
I do think Minecraft is a huge contender, though. As much as I love Breath of the Wild, I'm not sure if it should win as "greatest" for "all time." Also, even though Mario 64 is a genre defining game, I've discovered that it doesn't hold up quite as well as I would have expected. I feel like Ocarina of Time does that better.
@ThomasBW84 I am thinking this has gotta be a glitch or someone accidentally did this. The "news" item for the Dread poster set is still on the My Nintendo home page.

@Ryu_Niiyama How much was shipping to get it from Japan to the US? Also, do you have to have a separate account for Amazon Japan? It doesn't seem to like me using my credentials for Amazon.com
@munstahunta Isn't that what reviews ultimately are--subjective opinions of an individual? I mean, that's why ratings can vary so much on any given piece of media because what one person may love another may hate. There was multiplayer on there, but it was only a small selection of the game.
