@Gs69 @KateGray UPDATES AND REQUIRED INSTALLS! Ugh. They are the bane of my existence. I only recently bought a console from this most recent gen other than a Switch (Xbox One), so I sometimes forget that you HAVE to install games to play them. The other day I decided I was going to finally pop in Quantum Break and give it a go only to realize it requires a 100+ GB download!! That's ridiculous! Needless to say, I just pulled up something else that was already sitting on my heard drive... :-/
That being said, Game Pass does kind of function like a rental service for me. It's really nice to try out a game from it, realize I don't like it, and then shrug and just delete it from my hard drive without feeling like I wasted any money.
@TheRealKyleHyde Yeah, in fact a majority of the content was quoted from him. Also, I'd say Eve kind of contradicts her brother on the bit about "Excuse me, Princess," which is fine since people may remember things differently (this is why eye witnesses really aren't that reliable! Lol), but it means the writer of this article probably shouldn't have quoted either one since it's hard to know what the reality of the situation was.
What if they're just using this to gauge what gamers' reaction would be to something like Game Pass coming to Switch? Like maybe they already have something planned, but haven't announced it because they want to get the pulse on what people are thinking/feeling. I mean, it's a bit out there, but something to think about.
"It's safe to say that this news piece is really going to stretch the boundaries of what is possible to talk about on a family-friendly website..."
I know you guys need the clicks, but Nintendo Life really could just NOT write about this stuff if you care about being family-friendly. Just a thought.
@Glorbenz Great to hear you liked it! I only just heard about this game today, but I am quite interested and feel that it would suit my current playstyle as I rarely have more than an hour to play at a time these days.
Crazy to see this game get such a (relatively) low score when it has an 80% on Metacritic and 9/10 on Steam!
Personally, I think the bite-sized chunks sound lovely to me. As someone with a full-time job, a family, and many other responsibilities, the idea of playing something that doesn't require hours of my day at a time is really appealing. I think it might be more suited for mobile, but unfortunately I don't have an iOS device (and have no intention of getting one) and it's not on Android.
@KateGray just how much do you feel that the bugs contributed to your score? I'm curious if I'd still like the game regardless...
@HotGoomba Oh my. I hadn't even considered that, but I do think that would be glorious! I've been dying for another proper Chibi-Robo game, but I think that would suffice at least temporarily.
Also, this might seem a bit trivial to some, but how's the language in the documentary? I'd thought about watching it with the kids but I'm unsure as to if some of the people they're interviewing would use some more colorful language...
@fireflydrake Yeah, I think you pretty more accurately conveyed what I was trying to get across!
Also, I feel like the Pokemon models and art style of everything else looks inconsistent. It seems like some of the environment is supposed to be going for a semi-realistic look, but the Pokemon look fairly cartoony (which is not necessarily a bad thing). At least with Sword & Shield, I felt like everything had a consistent style.
@Fath Haha. I appreciate the apology. I was honestly laughing at your response because I'm about as big a Nintendo fan as it gets and am usually rolling my eyes at people who get all uptight about graphics. More than anything with this game I just find it funny how so many Pokemon fans were upset with the look of Sword and Shield, but think this one looks just fine. I beg to differ.
But yeah, I played the original and loved it! I'm really looking forward to it and hoping my non-gamer wife might get some joy out of it like she has with Animal Crossing!
I don't understand why everyone says this looks so much better than Sword & Shield. I mean, it looks like a fun game to me, but personally I'm quite disappointed with the textures and the way the models look in this game. When flipping through the screenshots on the official Nintendo shop page, the textures on the ground and foliage look atrocious!
@jamesthemagi I strongly feel that Rayman needs to be added to the game! I feel like he would fill out the roster nicely when it comes to having legacy/hall of fame characters.
@javiboy2 @Grot seriously?! You guys managed to get a copy recently? I gave up early on since the preorders went in an instant and didn't expect retailers to keep any in stock at the stores.
@RupeeClock Agreed. I think it's just because of what's in style these days what with all of the 90s looks coming back. Personally, I'm not really a fan of the current trends.
I'm not usually a fan of ruining the experience for myself by using a tool like this, but I have yet to see any meteor shower or even get any star fragments. In fact, I have only seen one shooting star and was in the middle of shooting down a balloon so I wasn't able to react quickly enough to "wish" on it. All that to say, I'm strongly considering using it...
@RickD I played Mario Land 2 on my 3DS. As much as I loved it, it was absurdly short--like less than 3 hours short if I remember right. Did I do something wrong? Or is it that since it was intended for a handheld, they intentionally made it short?
Is it just me or is it jarring to see someone sir l write in the first person plural when it's clearly an individual's experience? I mean, it makes sense when someone is writing a review as it's kind of supposed to represent the site as a whole, but here...? Phrases like "an 18-month period where we played the game every single day" just sound weird when it's obviously just Gavin speaking.
I never got the chance to play this series when it was out originally. I've considered picking up one of the re-releases, but I'm not sure if they'll have aged well. Thoughts?
Didn't EA previously say they had an "unprecedented" partnership with Nintendo when it came to the Wii U? We saw how that went. They appear to be a fickle bunch, that's for sure.
Yeah, I'm very familiar with this! My mom wanted to buy a Switch for my brother for his birthday. She told me she found one on Amazon and was surprised by how much it was ($500+) but said that she was willing to pay that much for his 30th birthday. She had no idea what the retail value was!
So I told her I'd check elsewhere. I went on Best Buy's website, saw that they had one, so I added it to my cart. I quickly went to check out, but it said it was already out of stock.
I went back to the product page refreshed it several times watching the buy button go back and forth between "Add to Cart" and "Out of Stock". I would try a few times up buy it, but every time I got to the checkout it would say it was out of stock. It was very frustrating!
One thing I encountered was that if you don't catch them all in the night that you first meet him, then you lose the pieces you've collected. I caught one right after I saw him, but had to get off. Now I can't locate it. I thought maybe I put it in storage, but it's not there...
@Kalmaro That's a shame. I had heard good things about it from a friend. There are definitely a lot of things similar to L4D even to the point of it seeming like a clone in some aspects, but since we don't have anything like it on the Switch I don't think that would be so bad.
@ShadJV I completely agree with you. I don't understand the outrage on the DLC. I'd much rather have DLC that adds so much additional content instead of a full-priced game that adds practically the same amount of content.
I agree that based on what is on offer here that it should be cheaper. It's Bank's features (which was 5 USD/year) and trading features that have been free otherwise. "Challenges", a sticker binder, and research tasks are barely additional features.
That being said, I did pay for 3 months (using my Google Play points--free for me!) so I could transfer my Pokemon from Bank. Once my subscription expires, I don't mind them being locked away until I have a need to pay for a short-term subscription again.
Also, I did vote "It's working perfectly so far - great stuff!". Not because I actually think it's "great stuff", but that I interpreted the question to be if you've had any technical problems in which the answer is no. Everything has been working just fine. However, there are a lot of features lacking. I don't like functionality being split across devices, especially when it hinders my ability to do things I'd like to.
For instance, I was just trying to go through my Pokemon and find any duplicates I'd like to trade. Naturally, since I'm trading, I'd be scrolling through them on my phone. It seems I can't alter the markings on mobile (argh!), but no worries--I can just favorite them and filter those when I go to add something to the Wonder Box. But wait! When you go in there, it won't let you trade something that has been favorited! AND you can't just click on that Pokemon and unfavorite there and then like you can when trading in Pokemon Go. So this presents quite a conundrum, doesn't it?
@Gravitron If you're saying that you have a Nintendo Network ID on your 3DS and a Nintendo Account on your Switch, you should be able to link them when you log into your Nintendo Account on the web. @dartmonkey That's really unfortunate. I know you guys have a limited amount of time (believe me, I understand completely!), but one of the things that originally drew me to this site was that I could find reviews for even the most obscure games on the 3DS. Likewise, I've always valued Nintendo Life's opinion over other sites like IGN.
What I want to know is if I'm not on a premium plan, how long will my Pokemon stay on their servers? (Rhetorical as I don't expect anyone on here to know.)
I mean, the fact that they give you a number at the bottom of which Pokemon are not in your "Basic Box" and therefore aren't available to you is a positive sign that they'll be there indefinitely, but I can't be certain until they let us know. If I remember right, with Bank they said there was a limited (though not specified) amount of time they'd be available after your subscription expired.
@ToonStuff Agreed. It's not like they'll keep Bank around for that much longer anyway now that Home as arrived.
Also, I found the initial announcement of Home to be kind of funny. Sure I'm interested in the prospect of it, but the idea of "a place where you can store all your Pokemon and connect it will all future Pokemon games?!" Well, that's the way they marketed Bank and now look at where we are.
@dartmonkey You guys plan to review Circle of Sumo at any time? I've watched the trailer on the eShop and have strongly considered purchasing it, but haven't done so yet. It looks like a very enjoyable party game.
