Re: Review: Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons - A Welcome Return Of An Indie Classic

@BulbasaurusRex
Huh? If you've played the game, you're certainly entitled to your own opinions, but I don't personally feel that the controls are stupid. Sure, you had to do some mental gymnastics at times, but that's part of the fun and challenge of it! Your brain is so used to using a controller to move one character that when you're trying to make two different characters to do two different things at the same time, you sometimes have to pause and think about your next action.

Re: Review: Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons -

FiveDigitLP

@Dm9982 It's sort of an adventure puzzle game. It has some of the puzzle elements you'd find in a Zelda game, but is very linear (which is good in this sort of game where the emotional story plays such a strong role imo).

Also, since the gameplay is made up entirely of just moving two characters around with only a single contextual action button per character, it kind of is reminiscent of a point and click game. If you've ever played Journey, it's kind of similar in gameplay except this has the hook of playing as two characters at the same time.

If you've never played Brothers, DEFINITELY buy it! It is simply wonderful and has a surprisingly emotional story to it. It really left an impact on me personally. Also, the gameplay provides a really unique hook that I've not seen elsewhere.

Re: Review: Assassin's Creed III Remastered - The Franchise Runt Gets A Clunky Switch Port

FiveDigitLP

I've gotta say this is sad to hear. Honestly, not only did the game have story and gameplay related issues when it first came out, but it was actually fairly glitchy in the original version (360 for me). There was texture pop-in, scripted sequences would have sounds/voices not be in sync with the video, and there was a sense of uncanny valley with most of those characters...
IMO, the best part of the game was the homestead missions!

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Want Achievements On Switch?

FiveDigitLP

I'm weird in that I actually like the seeming meaningless "Completed level 2-1" achievements. It makes for a very easy way to browse over my games (via the console or online) and see how far I've made it (I have a bad habit of jumping back and forth between various games) AND I can view friends' achievements to see their progress.

If Nintendo had a solid way of tracking someone's progress in a game without the common way of implementing achievements, I'd be perfectly content with that, honestly.

Re: Nintendo Removes Seventh Generation Games From Its Official Website

@Liam_Doolan Am I missing something? I just went to the online "Game Store" and can still filter by Wii U. I was wondering how they were going to make this work when they often link to the store from My Nintendo Rewards...
https://www.nintendo.com/games/game-guide/#filter/:q=&dFR[platform][0]=Wii%20U

Perhaps it was a fluke and they put it back up today? Though I would wonder if it was still a sign of things to come and was just prematurely done by accident...

Re: Fans Are Already Remaking Our Favourite Smash Bros. Minigame In Ultimate, 'Smashketball'

FiveDigitLP

This could be fun. I was not aware of Smashketball in previous iterations of the game--one of the benefits of now being able to share levels!

That being said, one of the frustrating things I'm finding so far is that a lot people will make these levels that are nice artwork, but they aren't really fun to play on. I mean I like Sans from Undertale as much as the next guy, but if the level is just a hunk of mass and the majority of the artwork is in the background or, even worse, if the level is difficult to navigate because of the "art" then what is the point?

Re: Some Regional Exclusive Pokémon Might Soon Swap Locations In Pokémon GO

@zander_dale These days they really provide quite a bit to keep you coming back... Especially if you have friends to battle, trade with, and send gifts to. However, i don't know what they're going to do once they catch up with the number of Pokemon generations that already exist. I'd say at the rate they're going we still have at least a couple years before that happens though.

Re: Nintendo Wins $12 Million From Trademark And Copyright Infringement Lawsuit

FiveDigitLP

I'm of two minds on this. I have always been pretty anti-piracy myself. When all of my friends were getting "free" music from online sites back in the day, I would choose not to participate and call it what it was (stealing). Even now I have friends that brag about using various apps or sites to watch movies for free even while they're in theaters and I'm thinking you're a grown adult thinking this is ok?

Yet when it comes to video games (at least old ones anyway), I get frustrated because some of these companies are choosing not to provide a legitimate way to play them. Or, even worse, there's a aspect of historical preservation to this and I hate the idea that if something is not done some of these games could go the way of the dodo bird.

I'm not advocating piracy, but companies like Nintendo really need to come up with a viable alternative solution.

Re: A Zelda-Like Open World Pokémon Game Is "Still On The Cards", Says Junichi Masuda

FiveDigitLP

@Sanasalin This is exactly what I was thinking. When I think of an "open world" Pokemon game, I think of Xenoblade. You wander around and just like in real life, there are some creatures that are docile and won't even approach you until you attack while there are others that are vicious. I think that would make for a really interesting experience with Pokemon.
(Disclaimer: I've only played the first Xenoblade.)

Re: Hilarious Launch Trailer Reveals That Surgeon Simulator CPR Hits Switch Next Week

FiveDigitLP

I love the trailers they've been showing for this game, but I think the one downside is that it kind of assumes you are already familiar with what it is. This trailer in particular makes it seem like the game is just about ripping patients apart in a non-sensical manner when that's just a side effect that makes it humorous. (@SKTTR @JJ286)

However, much like Octodad or that one game where you have to control the track runner with your keyboard, the thing that really makes the game is trying to manage the ridiculous controls to accomplish your goals. I don't know how it will be with motion controls, but on the PC you had different keys to rotate the hands, move the arms, and grab things. It felt more like controlling a machine (like a crane) rather than a human being. So yeah, @gcunit I think the fun of trying to control your character without making a total mess of things stays funny throughout the whole thing. Granted, there aren't a massive amount of levels in the game, but with the price they've set it at (I was thinking to myself it would have to be below $15) and the added value of co-op I think it's worth playing.

Re: Team That Localised Fire Emblem: Awakening And Echoes Isn't Working On Three Houses

FiveDigitLP

I don't have any opinions on Treehouse (still haven't played Fates yet), but I was actually reflecting just the other day on how good the Awakening translation was. It's the little things like giving Donnel a redneck accent and farm references that give me reason to enjoy their work so much.

It's a shame to hear they won't be doing the new one. I must say with what little I saw, it didn't feel quite the same as Awakening.

Re: Feature: Here's What Pro Players Want From Super Smash Bros On Switch

FiveDigitLP

I wish they would remove Bayonetta in the next version (or at the VERY least keep her as separate DLC).

Yes, I know that is controversial, but I've never really felt like she fits in the game. The game (to me at least) it supposed to be a lineup of all-star characters. Generally they're first party characters, but when they are third party they need to be characters that have been in the Nintendo roster for some time or at the very least be a classic gaming icon (Sonic, Cloud, etc). Bayonetta has had what, two games released? And one was just a re-release from another platform.

Secondly, I just feel like she seems out of place. Nintendo tries to stay family-friendly and practically all of the other characters line up with this. Bayonetta is a sensual and seductive character who is only clothed by her own hair...lol. I have no problem with the games being on the platform, but I don't feel like she belongs in Smash.

Re: NIS America CEO Apologises For "Negative" PS4 Comments During Chat About SNK Heroines On Switch

FiveDigitLP

One interesting thing that I haven't seen anyone point out here is in his follow-up statements:
"In discussing matters with MCV, I thought that some insider information would make them interested in the overall conversation, and such lip service did not stand on the side of truth."

By saying that his comments did not "stand on the side of truth", is he implying that he completely lied about some of that?

Re: The Latest Zelda: Breath of the Wild 'Tip' is All About Selfies

FiveDigitLP

I love the fun poses I can do with Link, but I wish we could post them to social media as is. Having to screenshot the photo either before you take it or while it is in the album (with all the other borders and what not) is not ideal. It'd be nice if we could post the pictures much like you could in Wind Waker HD. At least, make it so that you can make the picture full screen in the album and then just screenshot it from there!

I know this sounds like such a minor complaint, but I've done some pretty funny stuff that I'd love to share with people. There was a lot of great stuff that came from Wind Waker, so I thought this seemed like an oversight on Nintendo's part.
