"you would get nowhere near anything like a Final Fantasy running on it." You've got to be kidding me. OOT looked much better than FFIIV and has definitely aged better...
This is so bad looking that it almost has to be intentional. Surely someone can't make something this bad and follow all of the generic gaming stereotypes on accident. Surely it's satire, riiiiight??
Being in the US, I never saw this. However, for a 90s show, that intro/ending video is pretty nice! It's obvious a lot of detail went into it. I love how the screen flickers looked like something from the NES (I actually thought it was an issue with this being an old VHS recording at first) and how they would bring in each new screen of the credits.
This comes as no surprise, seeing as every other collectible type product they've released over the last few years has done this. Amiibo? Yep. Special edition versions of Zelda and Super Smash. Yep and yep. You'd think they'd have figured it out by now, though.
@Subtle24 I'm right there with you. I live in a decent sized metropolitan area in the US, but all the Pokestops near my house are about a block away. While previously I could walk around my neighborhood and find Pokemon, now I'm just blind as to what could be near me. Besides, it might be meaningful if they made more rare Pokemon spawn at Pokestops, but when I look at the nearby thing and it says Pidgey and Rattata are at my closest stops, I think to myself, "Well, that's pointless."
I have been somewhat frustrated with their lack of communication with the community, but I must say this was a nice read. I still play it plenty, but their recent updates are what have kept me going. I was really close to dropping it a month or two ago when the amount of Pokemon spawning in my area had dwindled greatly. However, they made some updates before Halloween that changed that. I can imagine what it's like from their end, though. Churning away spending long hours on this thing and then they go outside and are encouraged by people playing it. I just hope they release Gen II soon. I'm sure that will be a huge boost to the number of players actively using the game.
@Ogbert I noticed today that there are more than just what is displayed above. I've seen more Cubones, Marowaks, and Meowths as well!
@DragonEleven Where are you located? The only thing I see a lot of out of that list are Zubats. We mainly have normal pokemon around here, but when I went to Denver, CO I noticed a crap ton more fire and rock type along with more Abras and Drowzees.
@SeniorDingDong I had no idea! Now I can finally beat my wife on Tetris! Although, she prefers the Gameboy Color version. Is that the same as the original Gameboy as far as randomness is concerned?
@King_Y If no one else gets you one, I'll see what I can do. I plan on getting myself a code, but I'll try to go by a Gamestop more than once and grabbing one for you.
@Kirk Just gotta say, you are not alone on how you feel about this. I read your back and forth with others on here the other day about how that guy got fired for saying nasty things about his company on Twitter. For the most part, I agree with you. It's ridiculous how people overreact these days. (Although, I will say the specifics mentioned in the article here are obviously more than just a verbal threat.)
"As you might assume, Rock-type Pokémon favour built-up areas as opposed to the lush, green countryside. They can be found in towns and cities, with some reports claiming that they are especially common in parking lots and shopping centres."
I live in Tulsa, OK and it's fairly built up, but I don't know anyone that has seen any rock type Pokemon around here. Same goes for fire and steel type.
As for ghost, dark, and fairy types, I have a friend that works the night shift and he said he does see more of them as he's walking home.
@rjejr Indeed. I had begun to assume that you just always misspell their name intentionally as some sort of inside joke. Your grammar/spelling with everything else always seems pretty decent, so that was the logical conclusion I had come to.
Yesterday I went on a 45 min walk with my 2 year old son looking for a scyther around my neighborhood. Never found it, but I did catch a bulbasaur, ekans, and sandshrew! By the time it was all over, though, my son had fallen asleep and I was carrying him back to our house with an aching back and weak arms. Lol. This was also after we had already gone on a walk with my wife for probably 30 minutes before that!
@JaxonH @Meowpheel Yeah, I figured that was the case, but you threw me off the your use of the term "virtual console" since it's obviously not such in the official sense. At any rate, as much as I like playing old school games on my 3DS, I'd rather not have to use such dubious means on an official console. I am interested in playing it, however, so I might try to on a more open platform...
@Kirk No offense intended, but I think you might be in the minority here and it kind of surprises me that anyone who is a fan could feel that way. I felt super giddy watching that trailer. I could feel the excitement in me rising and, as @8itmap_k1d said on here earlier, seeing Link on a new adventure is like seeing the return of an old friend. So then, I'm kind of curious? What is it about the game that has you less than excited? Anything that you think would instead make you more interested?
@Captain_Gonru I own a few! But I was never able to find them after the first 1 or 2 packs that I got. (If I remember right, someone purchased them as a gift for me.)
I agree with the expiration. It'd be one thing if it was two years like it was on Club Nintendo, but six months??
Also, I feel that from a user experience they could get rid of the Miitomo platinum points and just merge them into the regular platinum. I mean, they're already interchangeable anyway, so why make them separate and thus unnecessarily confusing?
@Phil_Kavadias I was concerned about the same thing leading up to this, but with that many downloads, I doubt all (daresay the majority even) are Nintendo fans. There's several people here at my office that are in their mid to early twenties and to my knowledge most of them don't own a Nintendo system. Granted, I think all of them are gamers...but it's still progress regardless!
Weird. That desk looks a heck of a lot like mine! I have a macbook pro next to a similar (if not the same) Samsung monitor and a dark wood desk that has similar grain...
Wow. Why all the negativity here? I gladly pay the measly $5 a year in order to keep my Pokemon nice and safe on the cloud. I only have a handful left to complete my 'dex, so previously I worried that something might happen to the many that I've collected, but ever since Pokemon Bank arrived I worry no more!
To me, the legendary Pokemon are just icing on the cake. What else did you guys really expect the app to do? It's a bank. It's used for storing and nothing more. Unless you thought your account would somehow start gaining interest...?
I kind of knew this without completely realizing it. I have a Mario/Zelda big band album that was recorded live in Japan. There's a track on it called Go Go Mario and it has lyrics. I always thought it was weird and wondered to myself if it's supposed to have lyrics or if they just made them up for this particular show.
I actually managed to snag a Captain Falcon, Greninja, and Shulk the other day (Oct 6th) at TRU. They also had Fox and still had a few Zero Suit Samus and Olimar amiibo from the last wave. Looks like things are finally improving!
Dude, I strongly recommend getting Rayman Legends for Wii U over any other platform. There are so many fun elements to using the gamepad on this game. My wife prefers playing as the person with the gamepad over actually doing the platforming elements. However, it's not just a "girlfriend mode," as I have a couple gamer friends that prefer to use that mode over the regular platforming stuff. It's really quite fun and, though I haven't tried it, I can't see how it would be the same on any other system.
If I were to get one of the Phoenix Wright games above that are on sale, which would anyone recommend? Is it worthwhile to start from the beginning with the trilogy or should I try something newer? I've never played anything in the series...
"or the shenanigans of a handful of limited edition Majora's Mask 3D disappearing within minutes in North America" Wait, what? goes and checks Amazon and Best Buy ..... Nooooo!! I had no idea they had even put it up for preorder yet! I had just been thinking to myself how I wasn't going to hesitate with this like I did with the amiibo and instead order it as soon as it was available.
@Vriess Man, that does sound pretty bad. The prices are constantly going down right now. I think they're at $2.45 a gallon right now where I'm at (NE Oklahoma).
If you can find some way to go, I highly recommend it. I drove 7.5 hours to see it a couple years ago in Austin and it was definitely worth it. I will most certainly be doing what I can to go again next year.
