Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Micro SD Cards

Farmboy74

@Hyrule with some of the recent 3rd party releases not having the full game on the cartridge I have began to wonder what's the point buying physical.

I also noticed that @JaxonH had also been following SD card prices and had posted earlier in the week that amazon Spain had the 400gb card on sale for 175 euros and I nearly acted on that deal earlier today but for whatever reason I decided to hold off and check amazon UK.

Skyrim is my last physical purchase and I am now looking to all future games digitaly with Doom and Wolfenstien 2 being at the top of the list. To be honest the £30 difference between the 400gb and 256gb cards made the 400gb card a no brainier.

I am now going to donate my old 64gb card to my sons Switch which he is getting for Christmas.

Re: R-Type And Other Irem Arcade Hits Are Coming To Switch

Farmboy74

@Oorwullie, i first came accross R-Type as a kid waiting to go in holliday at Birmingham airport around 1986. Since then I have brought it on Spectrum 48k, Gameboy (imported Japanese copy) and like you the Wii VC version. It's a rock hard game but it reminds me of a time when arcade games were king.

Re: Soapbox: Seriously Nintendo, It's Time For A Switch Joy-Con With A Proper D-Pad

Farmboy74

A proper D pad would ruin Nintendo's marketing strategy at this moment in time. I understand the clamor for a proper D pad on the left joycon, but while we are fantasizing about future joycon improvements I would like Nintendo to move the stick on the right joycon to the top! I just cannot get used to using it especially on a game like Splatoon.
Anyway, this is all fantasy as Nintendo cannot keep up with demand as it is.

Re: Amazon UK Offers Nintendo Switch Downloads, Cost More Than Boxed Equivalents

Farmboy74

@Kobashi100
Just checked PSN store and I'd say for most big name games your looking at between £50 - £55.
Granted Sony hold plenty of insane sales which encourage you to buy digitally, hell even I have brought games digitally but not at Sony's or Nintendo's high prices. I feel that digital games that are also available physically should be around £30 as you've not had to upload the game to disc or cartridge, pack it and then distribute it to the stores.
I do agree that £60 for Nintendo Switch games digitally are outrageous, but as always if enough people buy them at that price then they will never lower the prices.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Nintendo Switch Pre-Order and Launch Day Plans?

Farmboy74

Pre ordered a Switch with Zelda, looking now to add Super Bomberman R and maybe a pro controller with an adttional set of joy cons for multiplayer Bomberman with my kids. Shopping round for the extra's as prices seem to be fluctuating.
Don't need an micro SD card as I already have an old Sandisk Extreame 64GB card.

Re: Poll: A Week On, How Do You Feel About the Nintendo Switch?

Farmboy74

If you asked my wife if I was excited for the Switch she would say I was and gave me to Easter at the latest before I caved in, after watching and reading all the information I could get my hands on during the past week.
In fact I pre-ordered on Wednesday, something I did with the 3DS, but not the Wii U. Also pre-ordered Zelda, really interested in Bomberman as I have not played a Bomberman game since the original Gameboy and hoping for good reviews before I commit. Also debating whether to buy the pro controller and joy con set (primarily for Bombeman local multiplayer with the kids).
I also think the games listed to the end of the year is decent as well. Sure Skyrim, Disgaea, I am Satsuna and Dragon Quest Heroes I could have picked up on my PS4 but with the Switch I can buy these games and take them anywhere I go which is the concept that sold the Switch to me at the initial reveal.
There maybe some services not available at launch but as any recent console launch shows us, they will be updates and I'm sure the UI and services will evolve in time.

Re: Nintendo Switch Will Be Easier To Find Than The NES Classic At Launch, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

Farmboy74

Can't see Nintendo carrying on with the 3DS, why make the Switch if that is the case?
The Switch is combining all the home and portable gaming in one product. Iwata stated numerous times that there was going to be one unified OS. Having the Switch and 3DS means having to different operating systems and splitting the customer base.
When will they accept that the Switch will replace both the Wii U & 3DS?

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?

Farmboy74

Liked how they started the presentation and all the the games that are upcoming, but my concern is around what launch titles will be available, they only talked about two; Zelda & 123 Switch. I will see what more information comes over the weekend but so far it's looking like a wait and see approach

Re: Nintendo Switch Presentation Given Estimated Runtime of One Hour by Niconico

Farmboy74

From what I posted on the Switch thread:
An hour seems short, personally I expected somewhere between and hour and a half and two hours. There's a lot to cover initial games 1st and 3rd party, price, controller options, whether there are multiple SKU's, virtual console and hopefully a new account system.
Now if it's like the PlayStation experience last month, then there will be no complaining.

Re: Poll: One Week to Go - How Are Your Nintendo Switch Presentation Hype Levels?

Farmboy74

I wouldn't say that I'm all hyped beyond excitement, the Ocober trailer grabbed my attention and I was all hyped after that because as a concept I think Nintendo may be onto a winner. But since then it has died down a little and also it's not my first rodeo as far as console launches go (SNES has that honour).
For me it's about Friday's reveal and treehouse live, if both of them nail it and there are plenty of new games and not just Wii U remasters, they reveal a proper account system and the VC service is akin to the Wii and add the missing systems then you bet I will mash the pre-order button.

Re: Feature: Five New Year's Resolutions for Nintendo

Farmboy74

For the Switch reveal I feel that Nintendo need to come flying out of the gates and just hit us with wall to wall games that take us upto E3. Then at E3 hit us with another load of games that take us to the end of this year and early into 2018.
A proper account system is also long overdue and I think the Switch is the system where this will happen as I imagine a series of incremental upgrades over the years if it is successfull.
I would also like to see the entire WII VC carried over to the Switch, but imagine this would be only possible if licenses are renewed for the non Nintendo systems.
Hopefully we will get some games that are heading to PS4 & Xbox 1 if so I would seriously consider the Switch version over the PS4 version.
The 3DS now needs a price drop, I cannot see how Nintendo can still sell it at it's present price with the Switch now only 3 months away.
Overall just give us good quality first party games backed up by decent third party games and no redicously long software draughts.

Re: More Switch Rumors From Laura Kate Dale

Farmboy74

I would like to see SD card support for 256GB and hopefully 64GB on board storage.
Can't see RDR 2 as it seems that Sony are going to market this heavily for PS4 and I also cannot see Mass Effect Andromeda coming either.
Hope I'm wrong on both but not hopefull.

Re: Editorial: The Nintendo Switch 'Power' Debate is Likely Missing the Point

Farmboy74

I can't see the Switch reaching the power levels of the Xbox 1 let alone the PS4. Sure it will run faster when docked, but the main thing is to make sure it doesn't overheat when it's undocked.
Of course you need a certain amount of power to run the games. I can see it being an upgraded X1 chip and if it's succesful an incremental upgrade in two years time to an X2 chip as in my mind the Switch lends itself to this model.
But Nintendo needs a clear marketing message and it needs to sell well. If it sells well we might get some AAA support. I think it will get the franchises that appear on the Vita & 3DS. Like others have already said it will come down to cost of making or porting games vs how many systems have been sold.

Re: Pachter Says Switch is the Easiest of the Big Three to Develop For

Farmboy74

It's no good being easy to develop for if the Switch does not sell well. I like the concept of the Switch but it's an chicken an egg situation which comes first the games or the gamers?
Nintendo need to heavily advertise the Switch (especially in the UK) after the marketing disaster that was the WII U.
January 13th can't come soon enough and hopefully put an end to all this speculation.

Re: Hardware Classics: SNK Neo Geo AES

Farmboy74

The Neo Geo AES or MVS was never officially released here in the Uk, it was like some sort of mythical beast that you heard about, but never actually saw.
You could get them from imported from specialist gaming shops, but the games were so expensive.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Talking About NX Because It Doesn't Want Rivals To Steal Its Ideas

Farmboy74

I think Nintendo a dammed if they do or dammed if they don't.

If the NX is a new console then it'll need to be at least as powerful as the PS4/Xbox 1 just to try and get the third party devs back on side.

If they are going full mobile then will it be a gaming tablet?, again it will have to be at least as powerful as the latest Apple / Android devices.

But whatever it's form it will have to have the games (exclusives and third party) and they will have to try and be relevant. Both of my boys have a 2DS with Pokemon etc. There are also two cheap Android tablets in the house with Minecraft on them. The Androids get all the action.

At this moment in time It does not look like I will be upgrading from the Wii U or 2DS / 3DS'S.

Re: Head Teachers in the UK Issue Warning to Parents on 18-Rated Games Being Played by Children

Farmboy74

@Quorthon

We are now surrounded by 24 hour news coverage which as a society has de-sensitised us to violence.
If I remember right wasn't the Matrix blamed for what happened at Columbine?,
Here in the UK the game Postal, was blamed for a murder carried out in the 90's with my local MP pushing for a ban on games and all sorts.

The fact is, the people who carried out these crimes had some pretty serous issues going on. Blaming violence in games and films is an easy way out for society to handle things and unfortunately then leads to the nanny state stepping in.
