We know that Disgaea 5 Complete will be a colourful, fantastical arrival on Nintendo Switch in late May, but for those new to the series we suspect there'll be some eye-opening moments. Take the opening movie, for example, which is about as bombastic as gaming intros get.
Just check it out below, and enjoy that music.
Nintendo UK has also posted an overview video; we've shared this before, but you can check it out again below if you wish.
Well, the drama - are you planning to pick this up on Switch?

Id take this any day of the week over street fighter. Not only is more effort put in its not a ridiculous price point.
This is my main game for May and It looks good in my opinion. I heard it has a lot of gameplay as well!
Thats great because while the switch is great for short burst gaming atm, zeldas got me craving longer single player experiences.
Missed it on PS4 so I'll definitely be picking it up for my switch.
Yeah, that music is... something. Still excited about the game, though, and definitely getting it.
This is a series I've wanted to get into, I think Ill pick it up.
It's Moe so No
Mad.
I imported this from Japan on launch day! It's fantastic! Playing in English! Bye bye region lock... You are not missed!
I don't know if I want this game yet...
I want to pre-order, but it has not been available on Amazon US for sometime?
I asked this in another thread, but I think I asked about a comparison to the WRONG version! The last one I tried playing was 3, Absence of Detention, and while I loved the setup and concept, it overwhelmed me early on with waaaay too much shop inventory that made no sense to me yet, and then levels that after doing well at first I started getting pretty much insta-killed and never had a feel for what was going on. For those that played 5 already, or partly, and also played 3, is 5 a lot easier to pick up on in terms of pacing, setup, etc, etc?
@cfgk24 I didn't know the JP version had English! Just English text or does it have the VO too? Since Disgaea has a lot of dialog, I'd probably rather have the English VO.
Yessssss one of my fave franchises taking center stage for once! I really hope NIS America really reap the benefits from this. I'd love for even more Disgaea titles to jump over to Switch in future.
@NEStalgia All Disgaea games are made to be easy to pick up and understand easily, but how far you go with it is totally down to your skill and understanding of what you're equipped with.
Early in every game, you're introduced to Reicarnation, Item worlds and the Dark Assembly. Using these three factors in combination can and will always make it so that you can take on any challenge in the game with little trouble. Yes, its a major grind at first, but it quickly becomes a snowball effect when you understand what each one does for your chosen characters. They even explain each of them for you, so I guess its mostly down to whether someone had been paying attention or not. In Disgaea 5, even more options for powering up your characters has been added (Character World, Evilities, etc) so you really can't go wrong.
I'm not berating btw, just some friendly advice.
Nearly 300 hours in PS4 and my only PlayStation platinum trophy, yet this will be day one for me on switch. Amazing game. Anyone worried about diving in at number 5 without playing the previous do not worry. This is a game that can be played without the previous games knowledge and all the systems are refined and in my opinion the best the series has ever been.
Just like any other anime, the opening ruined the whole plot...I'm kidding of course. I might be getting this game when it comes out.
@ThatNyteDaez My experience with 3 was that I was able to pick it up and understand the basics for a handful of maps. And then suddenly it all went to poo as though the difficulty suddenly ramped to 11, I was under-powered, under-leveled, and was missing "something" I should be knowing about battle. More importantly I didn't really understand how to fix that in a way that made it feel like the prior levels were kid gloves tutorials, and now it's the real game, and I had zero clue what I'm actually doing.
I hit my head against that brick wall a little, and just gave up early in the game. Which always annoyed me because I loved what I'd already seen and wanted to continue.
I suppose my hope is that 5 does a better job of introducing game elements at a pace where it's easier to digest and more importantly "learn by doing" instead of "learn by reading lengthy infopanels and hoping you remember it all when you get into the battle."
Granted, 3 is pretty old, and some of that might come down to obsolete game structure and design. Or so I hope!
Definitely picking this up in May. Not sure about Street Fighter yet though.
Not a particular fan of SRPGs but this series's humor and characters are just too ridiculous as to turn a blind eye to it. I've played 3, 4 and D2 - never finished any of them due to the overly excessive amount of training they seem to require from you. Either that or I'm just too dumb for SRPGs lol.
Yet, I'm looking forward to this release. That's how it always goes when it comes to me and Disgaea. Hopefully, there's some Easy Mode for SRPG dumbies like myself.
Never played any of the Disgaea games, but the intro looks suitably bonkers. My next main game for Switch I think
@Farmboy74 Same here, the intro makes it quite irresistible.
on pre order & cant wait.
@NEStalgia full English everything
@cfgk24 Wow, I SO would have bought this sooner had I known!
Why on earth the long delay for the release? Strange.
@NEStalgia It was gamble to import from Japan lol but my Waifu/GF is Japanese so we got it sent to her Mum's house and she posted it to uk.! Worst case scenario - WF/GF could have played it in Japanese and I couldn't ha ha!
@cfgk24 I'd order it now, knowing that, but it makes no sense it too me over 3 weeks to get Setsuna imported, so by the time I got it it would be days away from the US release I have preordered anyway. Ugh!
The things you learn too late....
I'm still afraid I'll suck too much at the game like with 3....I hope it break you into it slow enough to learn the systems this time!
Yeah, this will be my second Switch game. No ifs or buts about it.
First time I heard of this game. I didn't like the music in that video by the way, it had too much opera in it, but the game looked sorta interesting.
My gods, someone in Japan knows everything about what I want in a video game. On May 26th, I will be disappearing for a month or so. Hope you guys can get along without me.
Game-wise this is the best and most accessible entry in the series, don't be afraid newcomers!
@NEStalgia If you find yourself at a disadvantage, just level up your equipment in the item world. That is a major aspect to exploit. Plus you would gain massive levels too as you progress, faster than what you would get from just playing the story line.
@SilentS Good information! What exactly IS the item world? Is it basically "free battles" to grind in like FE:A or SMT DS? That's one thing I was missing when I tried 3 was any knowledge of how to grind in any meaningful way, I imagine.
@pandarino That's VERY good news to hear!
@NEStalgia The item world, once open, allows you to level up any item you have. It will give you an explanation when it opens, so don't worry about missing it. One way to look at it is "free battles", but that is not the only thing to it. You can skip each battle map if you want, but you would be making slower progress in making your items stronger. Also, keep in mind, the stronger the item the stronger the enemies. There is a lot to know about the item world, but it can be figured out as you begin to play it. But one of the main aspects of it is to unlock the "Innocents", which give the stat boosts. Once unlocked you can move them from item to item, boosting it up to insane levels. But once the mechanic is figured out, you will be set.
The game itself gives an easy enough overview on what you need to do, and if still stuck, there are many FAQ's out there that would explain it all in detail before giving away any sort of spoilers or unwanted hints.
@SilentS That's really helpful, thanks! I've been cautiously anxious for the game....this helps a bit
