Re: Satoru Iwata Cites Poor Basic Wii U Sales To Rule Out Price Cut Benefits

Farmboy74

Unofficial price cuts in the UK have not helped to generate many more sales as this site has reported in the past. The only thing that will save the Wii U is games and more games. Nintendo made a mistake and has admitted that it wasn't ready for the extra time to make HD games. Everyone seems to be screaming for a return of F-Zero but so far Nintendo say no.
Nintendo have already paid Platinum and Sega to bring games to the Wii U, this needs to continue.
The power of the Wii U / install base has not helped it, with many a developer saying they not going to bring their games across.
The way things stand at the minute I think Wii U will struggle to sell in the UK without advertising, especially with new hardware on the horizon from it's competitors.
Also it's worth noting people will look to see what exclusives and multiplat games are coming to each machine. While first party exclusives are all well and good, if the multiplat games that people want to play don't come and help to flesh out a software library that will also influence what machine people will want to buy.

Re: The Wonderful 101 Demo Coming to Europe Today

Farmboy74

Played the demo again last night, played better than the first time as I am now getting better with the controls (rescuing people, launching multiple morph attacks etc). The game is still mental and chaotic and you can see a lot of Pikmin and Devil May Cry elements to the game. I have also seen the first impressions from IGN and yeah they didn't seem to be impressed.
But maybe this game needs the demo to get people to give a go and then persevere with it as there is a lot going on on screen and to draw patterns with the right stick to activate morph powers does take some getting used to as opposed to using the right stick to move the camera angle like on most games. As a new IP it deserves a least a try out via the demo.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U and Third-Party Inconsistencies Pose Questions for Console Owners

Farmboy74

I was hoping to be Wii U only this generation, but looking back I think the writing was on the wall the minute Rayman Legends went multi platform and the specs for PS4 & Xbox 1 were publicly revealed. Third party devs have all year been looking for excuses not to support the Wii U. Like others have already mentioned the relationship with third party devs started with the N64 and haven't really recovered. As I mentioned in a previous article Nintendo now have to start investing for the future, buy Atlus set up new studios but this will take time.
More importantly for me I don't want to miss out games like the Witcher, Dragon Age, and the new Mass Effect game. With this in mind I have pre- ordered a PS4

Re: Nintendo's First Quarter Financial Results Boosted By 3DS Performance

Farmboy74

No one can deny that these sales figures are nasty. Now is the time to start forging alliances with games developers or just out right but them out (Atlus, Sega & Platinum) would do nicely. If Nintendo can increase the amount of it's internal studios then I would say it could just about to support the Wii U on it's own. To this end they could learn a lesson from Sony who have forged alliances with games developers and have also invested in it's own development teams over a number of years.

Re: Nintendo Finally Confirms Call of Duty: Ghosts Is Coming To Wii U

Farmboy74

Last COD I played was Modern Warfare on the Wii, as others have pointed out there's no Battlefield this platform, Activision have a golden chance to produce a decent FPS on Wii U that comes with all DLC. If they produce a half baked version which does not sell, Activision will have only themselves to blame

Re: UK Gamers Can Download Pikmin 3 Now By Picking Up A Code From GAME

Farmboy74

Currently downloading Pikimin, from the Game deal, hopefully I will get points for the Eshop download, 30% of W101. I will also get points for my reward card from Game and I've saved £5 to boot from the Eshop!!
Hope Nintendo start doing similar deals with their future releases.
@GiftedGimp what other download codes have you brought from Game?

Re: Review: LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Wii U)

Farmboy74

@Boxmonkey

Couldn't agree more, why they couldn't make it a speacial edition like Mass Effect 3 is beyond me. I have two choices with this one then, wait for inevatable price drop or buy the Wii version for half price!!!

Devs and publishers have got to realise if they are porting year old+ games across then the game must have all the original features plus DLC to make it a worthwhile purchase. There is a lot of people who have two consoles out there and quite possibly already have this anyway

Re: Need For Speed Rivals Not Screeching Onto Wii U

Farmboy74

@ theadrock13
I don't think we will see a Wii U 2 unless the U really tanks in the Christmas run up. It's regarded that Nintendo will have some first party heavy hitters out, Ubisoft will have 4 big titles out. If the price of PS4 & XBone are high cash strapped parents and gamers may just turn to the U as a cheaper alternative

Re: Need For Speed Rivals Not Screeching Onto Wii U

Farmboy74

EA's secret is out of the bag, the real reason they will not be bringing many games across is MS policy with XBone over used games and their scrapping of the online pass. Frostbite runs on PS3 & 360 it will run on Wii U which is more powerful than both of these.
Off topic Zavvi are selling NFS Most Wanted at the minute for £24.85 with Mass Effect 3 also on sale for £24.98

Re: E3 Nintendo Direct Date and Time Confirmed

Farmboy74

I want to see new killer ip and games that will go into 2014 and beyond!!, I want a new F-Zero game. I wouldn't even mind another entry in the Red Steel series as I quite liked Red Steel 2. Nintendo needs to push as many games as they can and not let Sony & Microsoft overshadow them

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's Next-Gen Challenge Starts to Take Shape

Farmboy74

At E3 Nintendo need to focus on games, games, games, and more games. Also make a big deal of backwards compatibility, that it does not require an internet connection all the while and that you can play used games.
Microsoft have shot themselves in both feet and are teetering on the edge of commercial suicide after a horrendous Xbox 1 reveal.
The door has been left ajar and Nintendo now need to make the most of this situation as they might not get a chance like this again

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd May (Europe)

Farmboy74

Slightly concerned for the price of Lego Batman 2, does it have any additional features to the Wii,PS3 & 360 versions apart from off screen play. Just checked Amazon Uk price for this and they're selling it for £30.99 that's double the price of the Wii, PS3 & Xbox versions. Didn't the other third party ports on this system struggle sales wise because of price & availability on other platforms?

Re: Senior EA Employee Caught Out Criticising Wii U On Twitter

Farmboy74

If Nintendo are the walking dead, does this make Nintendo a hit TV series, comic book and episodic game?!!!
While Nintendo in my opinion have made mistakes in the launch of the Wii U, they're far from going out of business yet or stop making hardware.
I think this guy may be picking up his P45 soon, as we all know what happened with the Microsoft # dealwithit situation

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Helping Developers to Convert Smartphone Games to Wii U

Farmboy74

@Sony_70

IAP in Real Racing 3 are offensive, so offensive I didn't even consider downloading it, sticking with Real Racing 2 which I've had sometime now

@SteveW

If your on IOS I suggest the touch arcade Icade compatibility forum list. For example Blazing Star, Raiden Legacy, Warblade, Meganoid, Alien Breed.

@bunnyking

Touchscreen gaming does work for games built around touchscreen, but for FPS, third person shooters and fighting games for the love of god we need joysticks and buttons!

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Helping Developers to Convert Smartphone Games to Wii U

Farmboy74

@Heatbombastic
Yeah Kung Fu Rabbit got a number of tweaks namely Hd resolution, physical controls and they removed the IAP'S.

@SteveW

At last count there were about 100 games that worked with the Icade (according to touch arcade forum), with android controller support getting up to decent numbers as well

@Sony_70

Agreed on the IAPs, one of the biggest cons going. Ruined many a good game.

But any game can be configured to physical controls on IOS (jailbreak) or android providing your desperate enough

Re: Smartphones And Tablets To Be "Primary Screen For Gamers" By 2017

Farmboy74

I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss tablets and smartphones. In the near future (this year) Wikipad are releasing a 7 inch tegra 3 gaming tablet which comes with a gamepad dock. They're aiming to release this android tablet for $249 in the US £249 UK. If you wanted too you can already hook up your android phone to a PS3 controller and buy a gameklip dock which effectively turns your phone into a mini console add to that gamepads like the Moga and you can see why these reports are coming out. Things are a bit different on IOS, but again there a bluetooth controller docks that will connect to your phone.
While most of the apps do not reach the quality of what is released on consoles there are a few gems which you can easily sink plenty of time into. Also there is a price difference for IAP. For example Zen Pinball will set you back on average £1.34 per table on android. For a single table on the eshop its £2.34. Also it has the star wars tables on android which are on sale at the moment for 69p per table.
While the phones and tablets are not as powerful as the current crop of consoles you can still have some good gaming experiences with Angry Birds not being included.

Re: UK Retailer GAME to Sell Tablet Devices

Farmboy74

If we're talking Android gaming tablets, then I think the Wikipad which has been redesigned and is a modified Nexus 7 tablet which docks with a full controller, could be interesting. According to reports they're looking to release anytime now.

Re: Luigi's Mansion 2 Spooks Its Way Into UK Top Ten

Farmboy74

Like Monster Hunter, I feel that you either like the Lego Games or you don't. Lego City has a lot of good humour and it's open world. It boils down to if you like collecting studs and blocks as in previous Lego Games. 12th place in the all format charts is a respectable position. How many WII U owners brought the machine just to play Lego City in the Uk?

Re: iOS Developers May Be Able To Port Games To The Wii U

Farmboy74

I like to see the following games: Galaxy on Fire 2, Nova, Flight Control, Mini Gore, Vertex Blaster. IOS is home to some great indie games, which I find frustrating sometimes due to the touchscreen controls. This development could be good as long Nintendo keeps an eye on things and the eshop does not turn into the app store where the quality titles are drowning under the shovelware that is on there.

Re: No Battlefield 4 For Wii U Because DICE Wants To "Play It Safe"

Farmboy74

I don't think we are going to see many EA titles at all on the Wii U. Just rewatched their presentation at E3 where they were full of praise for the Wii U. Lacklustre sales of the Wii U to date are not going to help and also this persistent rumour about EA wanting Origin as part of the eshop make up which Nintendo down right refused. It looks increasingly like that Need for Speed will be EA's last game on Wii U for a while. I for one will not miss the yearly sports updates and would have been interested in Battlefield 4.

Re: Ubisoft Not Disappointed With Wii U Install Base

Farmboy74

Ubisoft have supported the Wii U quite well to date. But the decision to delay Rayman legends still baffles me. Surely it would sell better if it was released between now & the summer months and not when all the big hitters have been released. Another thing that is confusing is all these mixed messages that are being reported, are Ubisoft genuinely happy and a lot of what they are saying has been taken out of context by reporters? Or are they disappointed with sales of their games so far?

Re: Talking Point: The Download or Disc Dilemma

Farmboy74

Like on PSN, eshop prices for retail games are absurd!!!, who is going to pay on average £10 more than you can buy from the retailers??. To be honest it's a double edged sword if full retail games were cheaper on eshop then retailers wouldn't like this and it would give them something else to moan about!! with the possibility of not supporting Nintendo with shelve space.
But as apple have proved on IOS, people will download digital content if it's the right price ( it also helps that you can't get IOS games anywhere else other than ITunes)
I plan to download digital content, just not full retail games for reasons described above.
I also think Nintendo have to alter Nintendo network account to the individual and not the console.
