Re: Talking Point: Amazon Fire TV is an Early Warning for Console Heavyweights

Farmboy74

@unrandomsam, I agree with your point about the Wii Wii U being aimed at the casual market. But that market has moved to mobile and at this moment in time that is the market Kindle Fire TV is aimed at, when they finely get round to releasing the controller.
Like I said in the forum on this issue if they give the Kindle Fire streaming and gamepad functionality for Fire TV in their next revision it will make things very interesting as the casuals will be able to play Candy Crush on the big screen.

Re: 3DS Enjoys a Major Hardware Boost in Japan as Wii U Sales Also Increase

Farmboy74

@MamaLuigi, your talking about the much rumoured Nintendo Fusion. TBH given with what Iwata has said recently with a home console and a hand held unit sharing the same OS, I would say it will happen eventually.
Anyway back to the story, a rise in sales figures is always positive just need to give people a reason to buy the hardware.

Re: Smartphone Game Market Shows Impressive Growth in Japan

While I have played some decent games on my iPad, the majority of the mobile market is flooded with freemium apps that are looking to fleece you for more money at every turn.
It's a market in which I turned my back on about a year and a half ago. Call me old fashioned but I'd rather pay the full cost of the game upfront than having to buy 69p - £2 packs just to progress. The worst offenders are the now EA owned Firemint who wanted £69 for an extra car in Real Racing 3.
I know some mobile games have come to the 3DS and Wii U, like Guman Clive and Kung Fu Rabbit, these games have made the transitsion well.

Re: Wii U Lifetime Sales in Japan Overtake the Xbox 360

Farmboy74

It's good news for Wii U, personally I will be more interested to see how much PS4 sales will tail of once the early adopters brought their machine. I read an interesting article suggesting Microsoft might even not launch Xbox1 in Japan and pull out of the market.
It also seems to me that the Japanese market is moving more away from home. Consoles and more to mobile gaming.

Re: NPD Data Shows More U.S. Gamers Switching to Downloads

Farmboy74

If the price is right I buy digital (Pikmin 3 at launch) but it's mainly physical discs so far just picked up Deus Ex Human Revolution & Rayman Legends for £24!! On the Eshop these two games would have cost £54.
I think for now digital for Eshop only games and physical copies for retail discs ( barring any steam like sales)

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Another Wii U Retail Drought

Farmboy74

Nintendo cannot release AAA games every month as they do not have the amount of internal dev teams Sony has for example.
I read an article on 3DS buzz suggesting that Nintendo ditch the optical drive (as opposed to the gamepad) in the Wii U release a new download only version of the Wii U and follow the steam model on the Eshop.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February

Farmboy74

Nothing really new, I liked the look of X and Bayonetta 2. Not sure about GBA games on the Wii U VC, if I want GBA games on the big screen all I need is the game boy player for my old Cube. Hopefully at some point Nintendo will transfer the Wii VC across to the Wii U, and downloads linked to your account not to the hardware. Like I said I like to be hopefull

Re: Talking Point: Is There A Future For The Wii U Without The GamePad?

Farmboy74

@FJOJR, If it's masterpiece time then how about F-Zero & Starfox receiving a well overdue reboot?, both games last seen on the Cube
I remember also saying sometime ago on this site that Nintendo would do well in copying Sony and setting up more internal studios this of course would take time to come to fruition but if the third party's are not coming time to have enough internal software houses to see you through.
Nintendo could also take the Microsoft route and splash the cash on more exclusives, why not tie up a deal with Sega that would last years and not just a few games?

Re: Talking Point: Is There A Future For The Wii U Without The GamePad?

Keep the gamepad it's the Wii U's unique selling point. The main problem with the Wii U is that compared to the PS4 & Xbox 1 is that it is woefully under powered and not as program friendly if the reports are true. Whether Nintendo like it or not they're stuck with the gamepad and Wii U for another 3 years. We're looking at a Gamecube situation here and that little box of wonders had some cracking games on it, first and third party.

Re: Mario And Zelda On Mobile Could Bring New Players To Nintendo Consoles, Suggest Industry Analysts

Farmboy74

Nintendo games on mobile platforms will lead to the end of Nintendo as a hardware maker. The Wii U name is bad, should have been a different name NES 2 or Super Nes 2?. Average consumer does not know its a new console. They also need to improve third party relations, a game console solely relying on first party games will always struggle. For their next home console take a leaf out of Sony's book and go and ask developers what they are looking for in a new machine.
They could also try and advertise the damn thing still see way more XBOX1 and PS4 adverts than Wii U.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Leaf Climbs Back Into the UK Top 20

Farmboy74

The all format chart is the happier reading compared to the individual format chart. Animal Crossing, Zelda & Pokémon for the 3DS nothing for the Wii U. Even the out going Wii has just dance at number 4!!. PS4 & Xbox 1 represented by 14 games. It shows that Nintendo need to advertise the Wii U more in the UK as at the minute there are plenty of PS4 & Xbox 1 commercials on the prime time TV and channels. The only Wii U adverts I have seen have been on the kids TV channels.

Re: Soapbox: Even With The Arrival Of PS4 And Xbox One, I'd Still Pick The Wii U

Farmboy74

It comes down to the games you want to play. I picked up my Wii U in the launch window (just before Rayman got delayed) and enjoyed the games I'd picked. But as the year has gone on, due to poor sales third party devs seem to abandoning the Wii U and third party games I hoped would come are now not looking to materialise. On Friday I received my PS4 which I pre-ordered and have the enjoyed the experience so far. I now in my opinion have a good gaming set up Wii U for the Ninty exclusives and the PS4 for all the Sony exclusives and third party titles that will not be gracing the Wii U.
