Poll: What Review Score Would You Give The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?

It’s a good 6-7 out of ten. Treat as more of a rollercoaster ride and you’ll have more fun with it. I had a good time with it, hardly the “end of cinema” as some are calling it.

6/10 for it as a movie but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't smiling the whole way through!

Movie sucked but it was fun watching with family.

Not strictly relevant but my Galaxy amiibo arrived today. The Rosalina one is bloomin enormous! Beautiful though.

A 9, or as I'd like to call it, a solid 5 out of 7! I really enjoyed it for what it was. A popcorn flick with a lot of fun nods and Easter eggs.

6/10 As someone who defended the fans against the critics with the first movie…this one is noticeably worse. Even when other people say that movies have breakneck pace, I never really feel it, but this movie…oh my word, you get absolutely no time to breathe. Rosalina was underutilized, there were too many characters and subplots, but ultimately it had quite a few great elements that made it a positive experience, especially the climax which went so hard. Maybe it’s just the novelty of seeing Mario in theaters wearing off, but I stand more with the critics on this one

It was decent - probably a little better than the first one. It's still pretty simple, which is fine. It's exactly what it's supposed to be.

A good 8 for a kids movie! Maybe higher if you just compare to other kids movies. It’s great fun-had a blast watching with my family.

Also-I do not think it was overstuffed. I was a little worried going in after reading that, but did not feel that way at all.

It wasn't very good, but I enjoyed it for what it is. 6/10 is more than enough.

There seems to be a lot of “it was bad, but I enjoyed it” comments 😂

My heart says 10/10, my brain says 8/10, so I'll average that out to a 9/10. I know I'm very biased but I absolutely loved it.

Had too much repetitiveness. So many chase scenes, so many fight scenes, so many scenes where you think the danger is over but it’s not, and so many exposition shots where every time there’s a new location they spend 30 seconds showing you it because they want you to see all the references. I swear to god that casino one lasted a minute. It got old fast, and I now understand the reviewers who were saying it felt like so corporate.

Also, that 8 bit Mario Maker scene with Mario and Peach? It was funny the first time, but then it just got lazy. I felt slightly embarrassed for Nintendo when they straight up played the stage clear theme song, they should have made it more low-key and had it remade because it felt really out of place. Speaking of the music, the soundtrack was great.

Still enjoyed it, but not sure if I would watch again any time soon. I am once again reminded that Illumination was not the studio Nintendo should have partnered with, and to keep Miyamoto as far away from the movies as possible.

Not really looking forward to a 3rd movie at this point. I’m going to hold out hope for Zelda.

Last edit: ALSO, seriously Nintendo? You bring out Game and Watch and you don’t make him pull a 9 on Bowser? Wtf was the point of bringing him out if not for that? For all the references that you pulled together for the movie, you did G&W a huge disservice.

It was a fun ride, very much a love letter to Nintendo fans. I feel like it fell into the same trap Sonic 2 did with the necessity of world building taking place. That being said, I’m not going to judge what was a fun animated film too harshly. The expectation of Mario to revolutionize cinema is a bit silly.

Wait for it to come out on Netflix/10

Really wanted to love it but yikes. Really rough movie, kids deserve so much better, as does this series.

A solid 8. It had some issues, like again the pacing was too quick, Rosalina's character could have been given more spotlight (like make the movie 10 minutes longer for that), and Fox's introduction scene was too much like a cheesy ad (outside of that though, Fox was very cool), and the story overall could maybe be a little bit better. It's not like kids never got a big movie with a story that's also compelling for a lot of adults after all. The ending also felt very abrupt.

Otherwise, the movie was really fun to watch and I was just smiling almost the entire time. Seeing Yoshi on the big screen like this makes me more giddy than it probably should but it really made me happy, haha. Happy I was able to see it, with that Yoshi popcorn bucket no less. Needless to say I enjoyed it more than the first movie. Donald Glover also makes a perfect Yoshi, if you ask me. I still prefer Kazumi Totaka simply because that's the voice I'm used to, but I'm absolutely happy to have Glover voice him.

This one was leagues better than the first, which was in itself a 5 or 6. For Galaxy, I'd say probably a 7 or 8 fits well, though for me personally I would give it a 10. That's of course looking at it as a fun pile of cameos rather than an actual piece of cinema though.

Definitely a 7/10, Nintendo was never good with story when it comes to the Super Mario IP so I didn't expect much.

7.5/10, but the animation pushes it to an 8. I actually thought the pacing was a lot better than the first one, much more connected feeling than the first and not as jarring. The humor also hit for me more in this one than the first.

Also, what’s the line between references/world building? Obviously Pikmin and Game and Watch are references, but just seeing Mario characters/items I don’t think are “Easter eggs” or “references”. It’s a Mario movie, set in a Mario world (or Galaxy).

6/10 is fair. It’s fun, but the plot is paper thin. I really wish it was two hours so it had some time to breathe and do a little more character development. Too often, the characters were just jumping from thing to thing (Bowser letting himself get captured only to immediately be freed the next scene, for example). It’s a fun experience, though. I know a 6/10 may seem to some like I didn’t enjoy it, but I did, just also recognizing it has shortcomings and I can see why people who aren’t Nintendo-fanatics like those of us here will find it lacking.

Not much to the story but the rollercoaster moments were good fun. Would suit a theme park. Story was a bit lacking but I enjoyed bowersers journey. Love the slightly mental lunas, they are a little bit of edge in the film. I also enjoyed the music references to all the Easter eggs, to reaffirm which bit exactly you were watching. Little nods everywhere- 7/10

Haven't seen it yet, but I remember loving the first movie namely due to the animation, Peach & Bowser, but I will have to do a rewatch.

I don't know if the poll or this post will remain by the time the movie has been released digitally on YouTube, but I will say based on thoughts from individuals I follow who's seen the movie, I think I'm going to enjoy it too.

Just not as much as the first one, but I'll have to see how I feel when I watch it. I will say this thou, I can see myself not liking Fox's appearance judging from NintendoLife's recent video, sounds like his appearance is very fanficy in nature.

Like I said thou, I'll have to see how I feel when I watch it when it releases digitally on YT in my region, or get it on Blu-Ray if that is available first.
