Re: Rumour: The Voice Of Metal Gear Solid's Snake Hints That A Second Remake Is On The Way

FargusPelagius

@dBackLash He can now wipe your hard disk drive, brick your console, put it into low power mode during the fight, change the controller number so it no longer responds (you have to set it back up in the home menu), disconnect your console from the internet so it receives a game verification error, introduce a patch part way through the fight so you have to update before you kill him.
There's so many possibilities for that iconic fight now, aswell as changing the game resolution, physics interactions, colour hues, slowly fog up the screen, melt the screen effects, PS5 haptics, Joy con HD rumble. They could proper go to town.

Re: Rumour: The Voice Of Metal Gear Solid's Snake Hints That A Second Remake Is On The Way

FargusPelagius

I was hoping for a 3D Twin Snakes to follow on from Snake Eater 3D for so very long (8years?!). Just playing through the Shadow Moses stage in MGS 4 and you knew the nostalgia alone would sell a full engine remake. Hopefully this is true and Konami do something similar to how Capcom have remade Resident Evil 2 and 3. Doing a Metal Gear anthology of sorts over the next 10 years would help Konami alot.

Re: Video: Using a Mouse And Keyboard On Switch Isn't A Good Time

FargusPelagius

A simple patch to Switch firmware would resolve this. I thought some games supported mouse and keyboard anyway? Like on some xbox games. Nintendo games likely not, but anything that has a PC release should have compatibility.
This is trying to slap a layer over the standard joy con inputs, so of course it is a disaster.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 16th)

FargusPelagius

Mechwarrior 5, was on sale on epic store (before the May console release). Playing on Nvidia Shield Tv via Nvidia now, holds up fantastically streamed, it's only blipped once in about 30 hours of play.
Looking forward to playing with friends when it launches on xbox.
Would be amazing if Switch did streamed version. Honestly Nvidia and Nintendo need to further their partnership by getting Nvidia Now on Switch, it would flesh out the library nicely for me.
Will do some more hunts tomorrow on MH Rise too.

Re: Takaya Imamura Describes Star Fox 64 As "The Game Of My Life"

FargusPelagius

@Zeldafan79 i too enjoyed Zero, and you are right about getting the cockpit up on the main screen, it helps so much with co ordination.
I can flick between the gamepad and main screen, but having a button do it manually helped so much to acclimate to the action of the game. Zero has perhaps the best "dogfight", i have ever experienced in video games. I'd highlight Freespace 2 and Il 2 Sturmovik as being some of my favourites, and the dogfight against Wolf blew them out of the water for me. If Zero had gone full Space, and had inertia it might well have been the greatest space game ever made in my opinion, as the dual screens would have been perfect for lining in up strafing runs, then maneuvering out of danger.
Shigsies insistance on making it more "Thunderbirds" actually worked against Zero, as you were always trying to learn a new vehicle. It should have had the other vehicles as bonus levels/modes, and focussed down on Arwing and a couple of Battlemaster levels, keeping them as refined and memorable as possible.

Re: F-Zero Isn't Dead - It's Just Sleeping, Says Nintendo Legend Takaya Imamura

FargusPelagius

When Shigsy said something similar back in 2013 when BR was taking off, myself and others pointed to either 30 players online or a full on 100 player F zero Death race. Even comments above are pointing out F Zero 99 as a logical continuation of the series, and the BR genre is even more crowded now than it was in 2013.
Nintendo is supposed to be about imagination, yet they cannot imagine this?
Also the track designs they could do with the hardware now, could be simply amazing, multiple routes, mazes and gravity defying corksrews around a diverse sci fi landscape.
There's also F Zero Maker, players can build and share tracks and racers, they challenge each other. There's a massive pot of untapped potential, and i am flabberghasted Nintendo cannot see it.

Re: Talking Point: Capcom, Please Make Monster Hunter Snap

FargusPelagius

Would make for a fun mobile game for younger audience to "get into" Monster hunter. They would recognise the monsters and already have "Hunter's notes" on favourite habitats, patrol patterns, attack cues (they can be photographed fighting other monsters on their turf). You could set the game across the newer title s including Stories 2, so anything you learn taking photos of, can be useful in the main games.

Re: Rumour: Evidence Of A "New" Nintendo Switch Dock Supposedly Datamined In System Update 12.0.0

FargusPelagius

A dock with output upscaeling and a new processor in to handle higher resolutions. Also have hard drive support for your home library of games. When the Switch Docks you can transfer games between the dock and portable unit, and the Docks processor handles game resolution and framerate, while the Switch's GPU can run "full pelt" with it's processor taking a back seat administering the link via USB C.

Re: Xbox Says It's "More Important Than Ever" To Preserve Gaming Icons And Classics

FargusPelagius

I'd happily buy a Nintendo Box that simply plays all their old games, or something that lets me use my Wii U hard drive and add games to it.
Xbox has the slightly easier task as it only began in the Gamecube/PS2 era and even they fumble due to licensing. Fairly sure that's the main reason so few OG xbox games are BC. Been playing the Mechassault games on mine recently.
Out of 3000 games Xbox "preserved" less than 600, so they have a huge task still.

Re: Talking Point: Which Old Game Series Would You Like To See Revived?

FargusPelagius

I'd use a Game genie code so the genie can create a bounty hunter game featuring Samus, Captain Falcon and The Star Fox crew for a mash up multiplayer game with third person shooting, Racing and Space fighting. Part way through Kirby rips a dimensional portal using a power star and merges Dreamland a a location and another portal to Hades, through which Pit, Palutena and Thanatos emerge.
Nintendo Universe, the spiritual sequel to Nintendo land.
If i had to pick one .

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #80 - Resident Evil

FargusPelagius

They were all awful, as there was a big whoohaa over the violence in games. It was felt that the graphics were getting "too" realistic which is why Jill and the Zombie look like they are going dancing on the U.S cover. The backs of the boxes were much better. The cover that makes you turn straight to the back of the box is the European one "what's this? Is this?". Where you are greeted by a gory zombie taking up nearly a third of the space. Just incase you hadn't realised this is "that" zombie game haha.
This one might have been better served with both Front and Backs to vote on, as alot of horror games at this time "had" to keep the fronts toned down.

Re: Feature: Zelda: Four Swords Was Probably Great, But Finding Pals To Play With? Talk About A Master Quest

FargusPelagius

Best i could manage of the first four swords with aLttP was two player with one of my brothers, we managed to clear the game no problem. Had a much easier time playing F zero and advance wars with my college mates, as those required one cartridge for a "basic" mode (it was actually really competitive at break time on rainy days, jokingly swearing at each other as mates do haha).
The Gamecube Four Swords Adventures we had two GBAs and two Gamecubes. One Gamecube had a portable monitor and GBA player plugged in, so me and two of my brothers got a 3 player going. We had an identical set up for FF:Crystal Chronicles.
I never met anyone else who had that luxury though.

Re: Anniversary: Nintendo 3DS Launched Ten Years Ago Today In Europe

FargusPelagius

Got one at launch, transferred my Ambasador games to my early New 3DS (thank you Nintendo) with the special plates. Got a 2DS XL when they were £120 with three games (incredible deal).
So i have 3 of them. It was a cracking little machine and deserved a hell of alot more third party support than it got (especially western devs). Yet, despite that, it still has a solid library of games. I can play my DS library on it too (usually on the 2DS XL).

Re: Team Ninja Says It's "Waiting" For Ryu's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Invite

FargusPelagius

@NicolausCamp very possibly. But this is coming to Xbox aswell, surely Tecmo Koei would have at least done a collaboration for the Xbox version of the Master collection to include Black and NG 2 aswell as the Sigma versions.
I suppose at least using the two Sigma versions is consistent, and the Switch should have no issue running them full pelt in portable mode due to the decrease in enemies (they didn't use the cell properly on PS3 when they did these versions, so it's less processor intensive).

Re: Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection Includes Sigma Editions Because The Originals Were Unsalvageable

FargusPelagius

Okay i already mentioned this in the first NG collection article. We have NG Black and NG 2 (the enemy count in NG 2 compared to Sigma 2 is massively more hectic), via Xbox BC, meaning they have Xbox code and 360 code. Is there no way to decompile them back to source? Using the original dev tools? Or to alter the builds to run on some of the consoles?
Team Ninja appear to be saying they don't want to do the work which has already been partially done by MS emulation team. So they use the playstation 3 code (which would be harder to port because of the processor) instead.
The mind boggles.
If this is a Master collection it should really have NG Black, Sigma, NG2 , Sigma 2 and Razors edge (we can all live without vanilla NG 3 frankly). Perhaps a bonus of the original NG games from the 80's too, just for fun (and completion).

Re: Talking Point: Are You A 'Complete-In-Box' Or 'Loose Cart' Retro Gamer?

FargusPelagius

This one is very simple, everything i own and have kept is near mint and well looked after. If i want a game because it was one i was really really fond of and i had traded it in years ago, i will go for a near mint one. If it is a game i remember being good and want to play again i don't mind just getting the cart, but if there is a boxed for a decent price i'll plunge for that. If it is a game i never tried and could be crap i don't mind just a cart.
I sold my mint copy of Hybrid Heaven to a local Eclipse store when the N64 was replaced by Gamecube (buying Eternal Darkness with the money). It sat on the shelf in the store for several years , never bought. I eventually bought it back when the shop was going to close down (think it was 2007ish), because i would miss the "handiness" of having a video game shop round the corner from my house.

Re: Team Ninja Says It's "Waiting" For Ryu's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Invite

FargusPelagius

@NicolausCamp it makes me wonder, could they not have decompiled NG Black for xbox to recreate the source code? It isn't as if the Original Xbox wasn't very close to a PC with controller interface in the first place. I also have all 3 already on my X1X and Series S (only one the MS store let me buy on pre order day).
I'd love to see Hayabusa in Smash, Sword, throws, shuriken, bows, magic and body hops. He has everything. Also everyone complaining he is another Sword, they could always give him the rest of his weapons, i usually use Claws and staff etc. The Dragon sword could actually be his Smash attack, coupled with the Spirit of the Dragon. That reserves the Sword (on hic character models back) for that attack, while he uses everything else in actual combat.

Re: Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin Switch File Size Seemingly Revealed

FargusPelagius

I hope that equates to a meaty adventure (mmhhhmmm Tasty!), Actually looking forward to Stories 2. As for Rise, it isn't the "Ultimate" version yet and from reviews isn't complete. So the 6.6 is just the beginning, it'll reach 9-10Gig. Still smaller than Generations Ultimate. It must have alot of repeat textures and assets, or there's a decent compression method built into RE engine, which is also likely.

Re: Qualcomm Is Reportedly Working On A "Knockoff" Switch, Powered By Android

FargusPelagius

If it has enough grunt to run all play store games well, and if it has access to streaming services when plugged into a TV, this can work.
It would need another source for lower spec PC games. Nintendo's edge is it's IP and own studio partnerships, quite why Switch isn't already using Nvidia Now yet is simply odd, it would massively bulk out the library for streamers. Unless everyone would rather take the risk porting the games to hardware (which isn't what we are seeing 4 years on even).
Nvidia and Nintendo's partnership seems to be purely that they bought parts and tools from them, and leveraged their manufacturing contacts in China, after Wii U had utterly destroyed any bargaining power Nintendo had in the sector (they cancelled forecast repeat orders so the factories had to seek out completely different contracts and had to retool).

Re: NERD Explains The Challenge Of Bringing Super Mario Sunshine To Switch

FargusPelagius

@liveswired the IR sensor is just like the wiimote one. It detects heat just like a wiimote. Just pop two heat sources infront of it a set distance apart and it can act like a wiimote pointer. People used to use two small torches to get wiimotes to work on PC, it's a bog standard IR camera, nothing fancy.
As for it being a cheap wii motion plus, all the gyro and sensor controls i have used on Switch have been fine compared to Red Steel 2, Skyward sword and Tiger woods.
Edit: besides the point i made was they added a line of code so the Shield picked up it's controller as a Classic controller or GC controller.

Re: Review: Monster Hunter Rise - A New Apex For Capcom's Beastly Franchise

FargusPelagius

Interesting review. It is odd it has no voice chat at all. 15 hours for a MH story seems odd too. No endgame content, so perhaps i will wait for the Ultimate edition next year and hit it all fresh. Was actually going to get this straight away but this has me second guessing the purchase. MH Worlds main flaw was the content was so staggered you played the same stuff so much the newer stuff didn't even feel new. Interesting.
