Fairly sure they have had a collection like the contra, castlevania and arcade releases ready. It'll be Metal gear, metal gear NES, Metal gear 2, metal gear 2 NES (the cack one) with the GBC Metal gear solid as the bonus game. Frankly it would be worth the money for the GBC game. With scans of the manuals and extra features etc. I would love to see remakes with Fox engine for all the games especially MGS 4 which needs a port to something other than a PS3.
There's no option for none of them? I used to have NSO and Xbox Gold, but the law of diminishing returns means I can live without both. The money I have saved is going toward my steam library and upcoming Steam deck. subs, while a necessary evil for consoles, should never eek into being mandatory, so I am glad that they aren't quite yet. Microsoft making chat and free to plays actually free is the best decision they made recently.
Over 2000 hours (I know rookie numbers for a launch day machine) and never encountered joy-con drift. The screen started popping out at the corner about a month in, but hasn't got any worse (warping of the plastic due to heat?). I don't play on it much these days, but eagerly awaiting Bayo 3 and Metroid Prime 4 (still...).
@Phenzy the cartridges explicitly say, for use with X hardware, be it NES, SNES, using it on anything else, again is a breach of the useage license. Copying it and using it on anything else, is breaching the license. Nintendo can reasonably replace cartridges or discs but this usually has a ten year limit. It's been a sour point of gaming for longer than people like to admit. Everyone glosses over it, stating they can "backup" or "preserve" their games because the Atari, spectrum and Amiga all encouraged making copies due to the potential instability of the cassette and floppy disc medium.
Standard user agreements include, "you may Not, in any way, copy, reverse engineer or alter any part of this software." Dumping your game into an emulator is copying. Emulators tailored for specific games will require reverse engineering the software. Running the game faster or at a different resolution is altering. All breach's of a standard video game usage agreement. Nintendo is within their rights here to "protect" their software and IP. We only purchase a license to use that software on specific hardware, which is why they can sell re-releases ported to new hardware and sell the same game twice across devices. If you don't like it, simply stop supporting video games in general.
Hit the 12 hour mark of Elden Ring and my view has gone from, "this is good", to "this is alright". Glad it sold strongly though. Looking forward to Armoured Core.
Eternal Darkness is one of those gems that isn't necessarily executed to its full potential, but there are so many fantastic ideas in there, that I will always have this in my collection. A remaster that brings some of the mechanics a little more up to date would be a day one for me. I usually do a run every couple of years, I enjoyed the combat when it came out, much more so than Resident Evil, but it hasn't aged well. As for the Sanity effects, they are still brilliant, even if the underlying mechanic is a little too easy to circumvent (even on hardest run). I sometimes let my character go a little insane just to see what the game throws my way .
Maybe Nintendo will be announcing a Nintendo Streaming service at E3 this year, independent of dedicated hardware. Wii U and DS games can use the Switch(or mobile) as the second screen, while it streams to TV. Or you can lump it all on your 1080-2160 fancy panel. They have probably already discussed the idea with Nvidia and their streaming service, which is excellent btw.
@HolyGeez03 Nintendo Land and Warioware were both solid showcases. You need alot of controllers and players though. Wii sports HD was a good update too That alot of people completely forgot about. Nintendo should have just given it free instead of the silly pass system they experimented with. They could have monetised it later by introducing cheap costumes for your Miis etc. I think the thing I miss most is actually Miiverse, uploading pictures in a pure Nintendo centric environment was actually fun. They missed a trick by not doubling down on Miiverse instead of pulling the plug.
The main flaw I see, is that Nintendo made a real "push" for digital with the Wii U, that first year incentive giving 10% back on digital games was a brilliant offer. They made the Wii U compatible with a large array of drives, unfortunately only USB 2 speed. Now I have 100s of game licenses which will only run on Wii U, the transition to Switch was unsupported. Meanwhile the competition have licenses playable across systems and generations and accessible via cloud services. If the Switch doesn't have its licenses transfer to the next console, Nintendo will yet again erode any good will it's customers had. Remember Wii U went out of it's way to include full BC with all Wii functions, if their marketing hadn't failed so drastically, it should have been an automatic upgrade with any customer who invested in VC and wiiware. The whole thing is a little like, don't trust Nintendo with Digital content, it 'can' become worthless. The future will likely hold a subscription service where you get access to every Nintendo license, but that depends upon an internet connection.Tethering a Switch to the internet misses half of it's appeal.
Just over ten years is a good run. I had always assumed whatever games I purchased would be forward compatible with the next system as Nintendo had made a solid "push" for digital games with Wii U. The early incentive outclassed any offer at the time, making the purchase of a 1Tb hard drive a no brainer. I have VC games from my Wii on Wii U, and 100s of downloaded games from eshop. My account holds the licenses to play alot of games, all those licenses in time will be lost, like tears in the rain. Misquotes aside, Nintendo didn't do their best, with practically no transition. Other companies have done worse, but they also learned, as both MS and Sony are doing an admirable transition into their next gen. I just hope any games I get on Switch will be compatible with it's successor.
At the time alot of people thought that was the end for Sega, but they are still hanging in there. I am glad they still release games that aren't Sonic.
@Beaucine aye, I agree. Also when Half life gained popularity, I scratched my head thinking, "this really isn't much different". Much preferred Turok, Duke, Quake, Goldeneye and Unreal Tournament in the late 90s.
One of my favourite early Doom clones (Called them clones back then, not likes, like now) was Alien Versus Predator on the Atari Jaguar.
It is great that Nightdive gives some older games another chance to shine.
Edit: I just booted up shogo Mobile Armoured Division, what a FPS.
I had the review of this from an issue of CV & G, always looked interesting, but the review made it seem fairly "by the numbers" for its time. I vaguely recall 6 or 7 out of ten but don't quote me. It's nice that it gets to see light of day in today's modern era. Alot of games from yesteryear might go down completely differently today. I like Nightdive.
I enjoyed the accents in the first game and in Last Story (needs a remaster/HD edition), but I didn't enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles 2s voice acting, and the timing was all wrong in the battles to the point I simply do not like the game altogether. Even changing the frequency, messes the battle timing up, it doesn't flow like XC and XCX.
Forever entertainment doesn't instill me with confidence. Hopefully this will be alright though. I would actually prefer a sequel to the failed Front Mission Evolved, as apart from some typical poor design choices, it was a competent modern take.
It unfortunately had very little for me, but that appears to be gaming in general at the moment. I am most looking forward to Elden Ring so far this year.
I have played every game except Acid 2 (mainly because I didn't enjoy Acid). It is a Solid game franchise. The scripts can get out of hand, but I generally enjoy the plots and game mechanics. I even enjoyed Metal Gear Survive, it's great to call in Ray or Rex to help out, just a shame they never finished the game, as it clearly was going to be added to with new maps and (big) monsters if it had done the numbers for Konami.
Still have my black one, with GBA player (thereby making it a Cube) and GCHD 2 to connect it to my 4K monitor. Lovely machine, whenever i want to be reminded just how good games used to be. I must say though, Xbox dropped some belters in BC this November, that made me ditch my retro GC run throughs faster than you can say Max Payne 1-3, F.E.A.R and Timesplitters to blast through. Great times to be a gamer.
We've only just seen a trailer for Bayonetta 3 that was announced the same time. So give them another two years. I've hated the Switch years alot more than i thought i would.
Depends on the intensity of the game. For a bullet hell shooter 15 mins might be short, but still get the adrenaline pumping if it is good. A long bullet hell drawn out for 4 hours would be tedious, repetitive and overstayed it's welcome. A 4 hour adventure, however, with less intensity might seem short and pointless to even play again, because you can remember it. One of my favourite games was Resident Evil 2(original), which i could play through under 2 hours per character, but the alternate runs were different enough to warrant the 4+ play throughs, to nail the S ranks etc. So even short games can be made in such a way that they have alot more content than it seems at first. Metroid is an exploratory adventure so 8 hours should be about right. One thing i'll say about Dread, it feels like a £30-£35 3DS or Wii U game, not a big budget £50 game, so from that perspective i understand why people are bemoaning it's brevity.
Loved the gameplay, but didn't enjoy the woeful voice acting. Literally no emotion, yet she deals with very emotional things. You could argue she's blocking the emotion from her recounting of events, but the language used is counter intuitive, so she comes off as matter of fact and robotic. Still, Metroid rocks (as does Samus).
Really enjoying Dread so far, but all the while i can't help but think, this could have been made on Gamecube (2 discs), wii, wii U and 3DS at literally any point on a technical level (albeit at 480 on everything except Wii U). Will definitely try the emulator when Steam deck arrives.
@Arawn93 devalue hadware with a unique selling point? Switch has already sold millions, any impact now is after Nintendo has already made a killing. Nintendo could happily release new hardware making games for that, and have a few second and third parties port some choice games across from previous generations. i think the fact most Nintendo games would run reasonably on middling PC hardware (laptops, the majority of users etc) would more than make up the investment. If they use Streaming and Nvidia Now, Nintendo wouldn't even need to port, simply have it run off a Switch based server/host. Also your point of Nintendo having to pay Valve. Not if Valve, Epic or a storefront of Nintendo's choosing made a deal for exclusive sale of Nintendo IP. Nvidia did similar with Shield in China for a few Wii ports. Whilst Nintendo back track alot, someone in the company is clearly open to broadening coverage. Some good points raised.
@Arawn93 Nintendo would set their own price on PC, that's the publishers right. Case in point, Call of Duty very rarely gets discounts. PC wouldn't devalue Nintendo IP at all, simply expand the amount of people with access to their software.
Edit: i have an xbox and play it more than my Switch, so they must be doing something right. Been gaming 30 odd years. Every gamer is different though.
@SwitchVogel yeah tbf i just checked my boxes and Sega is on Bayonetta 1 & 2, so some deal must have been cut between Nintendo and Sega as Bayonetta is Sega's. In law it would be Nintendo paid Sega for rights to publish and develop a game using their character, bit like Mario and sonic at the Olympics and Mario and Rabbids. Long live the triforce i guess (because Namco are in deep with Super Smash bros too ).
Really suprised at Winback, that was a clunky one on release. I'd have preferred Hybrid Heaven or some of the classic Wrestling games (WWE should smell the money on those). Bit moot for myself as i haven't renewed NSO, but interesting to see what is on offer.
Pre ordered a while back. Metroid, Starfox and F zero are the original reason i loved Nintendo growing up (Cybernator, Mechwarrior, Secret of Mana and Super Castlevania IV too). Might squeeze a quick run of Samus Returns in before Dread drops.
@Arawn93 PC is the biggest gaming market(after mobile), that's why Sony and MS don't mind releasing on PC. As the hardware is increasingly similar to PC, ports can be incorporated into the main production budget, which actually helps with long term costs. Dev costs rise each generation, so to ignore that big a market is a little foolish.
@SwitchVogel I think the rights reverted to Platinum as Sega didn't pursue a sequel (so didn't protect or protest). Nintendo now published 2 and 3 so it's likely the rights are jointly held by Platinum and Nintendo currently. They would revert back to Platinum if Nintendo ceases to publish for a period of time. It's similar to movies, where Sony nearly lost Spiderman due to time lapse, so made the Andy Garfield movie's to utilise the license. It may be possible in 10-20 years, if Platinum are still in business, they could retain the rights or secure full rights and self publish out of their own pocket, a remastered Bayo Trilogy for PC, Xbox 6, PS7 and Nintendo super Switch 64 .
@gamefan37 Doesn't change the fact it happened. In 50 years time, they might do a two year stint porting games to PC. But to be honest, by then we'll likely have so much better hardware than Nintendo and be able to just emulate it as it's released . I'm honestly surprised at how closed minded some of Nintendo's own fans are. All i said is I (myself) would buy BotW for a third time (got it on Wii U and Switch, day one)if it was ported to other hardware, acknowledging that there is a possible market for it (it's also great emulated). Even Sony aren't blind to it.
@gamefan37 Never say never, the Philips CDI and Mobile happened. You don't know what the future will hold for gaming. Nintendo goes where the money is, otherwise they wouldn't have released on mobile, that isn't Nintendo hardware.
I'd triple dip if Zelda (Botw) came out on PC or Xbox (if i had a PS, that too). As for Bayonetta 3, so glad it's out next year, hopefully whatever Nintendo do next will be backward compatible with Switch. Kamiya said the same about Bayo 2 on Wii U and drew alot of flak from PS fanboys ( fanpeople? or just plain Fanny's).
It's the normal cover with a N64 side bar super imposed over the top? I was gutted when this got it's european release cancelled back in the day. So glad people get an opportunity to play it. It would have been amazing if the light gun add on had materialised for it too.
Cancelled a year subscription after the first year of NSO. I still don't feel like i am missing anything with a new tier being added. Although online F Zero X would be great fun (btw it most certainly IS wink).
Been playing more of Daemon X Machina as i lost interest with the poorly paced plot originally. Enjoying it alot more now. They just added melee to Mechwarrior 5, so taking my Dragon out for a spin, now that it can clobber a commando when it gets close, instead of getting ganked by constant SRM fire. I've been waiting for Melee in a mechwarrior game for 20 years (could have been done by mechwarrior 4 imo). Happy gaming.
These are solid games, very enjoyable. I've been playing them on my Nvidia Shield via Now. Hopefully they will bring Battletech across too as that is a fantastic rendition of the TT game, with solid mechanics added to flesh out mech size. Loved those Fasa IP's growing up.
I wanted one of these in 2003, but when i looked into buying one it was £450 and only available from Liksang (Asia). It had to be converted to work in Pal territories. I think they released in totally the wrong region (Japan). This would have sold better in America and Europe. Certainly more than 100,000 units.
Must admit, Phil has taste, Eternal Darkness was the best early Gamecube game after Rogue Squadron 2.Still one of my favourites, it had so many memorable "insanity" moments, shouted at my T.V when it said it was deleting my memory card lmao.
I enjoyed the gameplay, it was alright for what it was, but goodness me the characters don't half waffle on far too much. I know it is anime inspired but if you ditch the twoddle, they actually would have had a better game overall. Less is more in this case. They would have been better served by having a more Arcade story and set up, fleshed out with the combat and customisation, instead of trying to create something meaningful and falling flat as a result. It is worth trying though, it doesn't half make you wish for an Armoured core, mechwarrior or even ace combat game on Switch though (Ace combat has the same story problems, but slightly less waffling about insignificance).
I have fond memories playing the demo of this in Manchester at a preview event, Kid Icarus stood out from all the other demo's for 3DS, it blew the other demo's away. Monkey ball and then live action street fighter and resident evil were a close second and third for that event (and yes the zombie actors tried to trip me up hahaha).
Sales usually dip by the third entry, however the PC release will certainly help this reach more people. Also Steam sales will definitely maximise the titles sales around Christmas, then next Summer.
"...put something genuinely good in there, instead." Sums up 98% of today's games with time intensive busywork. I always appreciated this "joke" in No More Heroes, i just wish other developers would rectify the problem. And the review's spot on, by Number 3 Grasshopper should have actually shown the industry "how" to make fun, engaging content, instead of cracking the same, "every game does this crap..." Joke. Looking forward to No More Heroes 4EVA down the line .
Is this the "test" to see if physical Doom Eternal is worth releasing on Switch? Depends what's on this cart, but it is likely to be a second run Doom 2016 cart with DL codes for the older games as others have stated. I would have liked to have seen Wolfenstein New order and Old blood on Switch too.

Bit moot for myself as i haven't renewed NSO, but interesting to see what is on offer.
Re: Video: We've Actually Played Metroid Dread, Does It Meet Our Expectations?
Pre ordered a while back. Metroid, Starfox and F zero are the original reason i loved Nintendo growing up (Cybernator, Mechwarrior, Secret of Mana and Super Castlevania IV too).
Might squeeze a quick run of Samus Returns in before Dread drops.
Re: Hideki Kamiya Reminds Fans Bayonetta 3 Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive
@Arawn93 PC is the biggest gaming market(after mobile), that's why Sony and MS don't mind releasing on PC. As the hardware is increasingly similar to PC, ports can be incorporated into the main production budget, which actually helps with long term costs. Dev costs rise each generation, so to ignore that big a market is a little foolish.
Re: Hideki Kamiya Reminds Fans Bayonetta 3 Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive
Re: Hideki Kamiya Reminds Fans Bayonetta 3 Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive
@gamefan37 Doesn't change the fact it happened. In 50 years time, they might do a two year stint porting games to PC. But to be honest, by then we'll likely have so much better hardware than Nintendo and be able to just emulate it as it's released .
I'm honestly surprised at how closed minded some of Nintendo's own fans are. All i said is I (myself) would buy BotW for a third time (got it on Wii U and Switch, day one)if it was ported to other hardware, acknowledging that there is a possible market for it (it's also great emulated). Even Sony aren't blind to it.
Re: Hideki Kamiya Reminds Fans Bayonetta 3 Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive
@gamefan37 Never say never, the Philips CDI and Mobile happened. You don't know what the future will hold for gaming. Nintendo goes where the money is, otherwise they wouldn't have released on mobile, that isn't Nintendo hardware.
Re: Hideki Kamiya Reminds Fans Bayonetta 3 Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive
I'd triple dip if Zelda (Botw) came out on PC or Xbox (if i had a PS, that too). As for Bayonetta 3, so glad it's out next year, hopefully whatever Nintendo do next will be backward compatible with Switch. Kamiya said the same about Bayo 2 on Wii U and drew alot of flak from PS fanboys ( fanpeople? or just plain Fanny's).
Re: Uh-Oh, Nintendo Switch Online's N64 Games Might Be 50Hz In Europe
I doubt the Switch can do 60hz N64 justice. 50hz will likely have a more consistent framerate
Re: Sin & Punishment For Nintendo 64 Now Has An Official Western Box Art
It's the normal cover with a N64 side bar super imposed over the top?
I was gutted when this got it's european release cancelled back in the day. So glad people get an opportunity to play it. It would have been amazing if the light gun add on had materialised for it too.
Re: Switch's N64 Controller Is Hiding Some Extra Buttons
50Hz means consistent framerate no doubt
Re: Don't Worry, Nintendo Isn't Abandoning Switch Online's SNES And NES Libraries
Cancelled a year subscription after the first year of NSO. I still don't feel like i am missing anything with a new tier being added.
Although online F Zero X would be great fun (btw it most certainly IS wink).
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 25th)
Re: The Shadowrun Trilogy Is Coming To Nintendo Switch In 2022
These are solid games, very enjoyable. I've been playing them on my Nvidia Shield via Now. Hopefully they will bring Battletech across too as that is a fantastic rendition of the TT game, with solid mechanics added to flesh out mech size. Loved those Fasa IP's growing up.
Re: Gallery: Is The Panasonic Q The Most Goshdarn Beautiful Nintendo Console Of All Time?
I wanted one of these in 2003, but when i looked into buying one it was £450 and only available from Liksang (Asia). It had to be converted to work in Pal territories. I think they released in totally the wrong region (Japan). This would have sold better in America and Europe. Certainly more than 100,000 units.
Re: Random: Xbox's Phil Spencer Reveals His Favourite GameCube Game
Must admit, Phil has taste, Eternal Darkness was the best early Gamecube game after Rogue Squadron 2.Still one of my favourites, it had so many memorable "insanity" moments, shouted at my T.V when it said it was deleting my memory card lmao.
Re: Daemon X Machina Is Next Up As A Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial
Re: The 'Unhackable' Wii Mini Has Been Hacked
When i saw and read about the wii Mini i had always assumed it was intended for the Chinese market after the IQue wasn't approved.
Re: Masahiro Sakurai Talks About The Beginnings Of Kid Icarus: Uprising
I have fond memories playing the demo of this in Manchester at a preview event, Kid Icarus stood out from all the other demo's for 3DS, it blew the other demo's away. Monkey ball and then live action street fighter and resident evil were a close second and third for that event (and yes the zombie actors tried to trip me up hahaha).
Re: Bravely Default II Has Almost Reached One Million Sales On Nintendo Switch
Sales usually dip by the third entry, however the PC release will certainly help this reach more people. Also Steam sales will definitely maximise the titles sales around Christmas, then next Summer.
Re: Review: No More Heroes III - A Swaggering Joke Of A Game That Suda51 Fans Will Love
Re: DOOM Slayers Collection Looks Set For Switch
Is this the "test" to see if physical Doom Eternal is worth releasing on Switch? Depends what's on this cart, but it is likely to be a second run Doom 2016 cart with DL codes for the older games as others have stated.
I would have liked to have seen Wolfenstein New order and Old blood on Switch too.
