In the game magazine business, the Back Page is where you'd find all the weird goofs that we couldn't fit into the rest of the pages. Some may call it "filler"; we prefer "a whole page to make terrible jokes that are tangentially related to the content of the mag". We don't have pages on the internet, but we still love terrible jokes - thus our Back Page features. Today, Kate has a stab at divining the title of the next Legend of Zelda guided by recent gaming trends...

Right, sorry about that. It'll make sense a few paragraphs in, I promise.
You may have seen the news last week that there's a new Longest Title For A Game candidate on the block, which is so long that I'm going to give it its own paragraph. Hold on.
"Monster wo Taoshite Tsuyoi Ken ya Yoroi wo Te ni Shinasai. Shindemo Akiramezu ni Tsuyoku Narinasai. Yuusha Tai ga Maou wo Taosu Sono Hi wo Shinjiteimasu"
Quite the mouthful, eh? Here's the translation:
“Defeat Monsters to Get Strong Swords and Armor. Even If You Die, Fight and Become Stronger. We Believe in the Day the Heroes will Defeat the Demon Lord.”
Wait a gosh darn second! That's just a description of the game! Did the developers get the "Title" and "Back of box blurb" mixed up? Having such a long title is both a curse and a blessing: People will be terrified of your game, but they'll also notice it, probably because the game box is a metre wide.
So, what if this is the new trend? What if game names are just long now? We've been speculating about the title of the next Zelda game for some time, but we've always generally followed the pattern of "The Legend of Zelda: The Noun of Noun" or perhaps "The Adjective Noun" if we're feeling spicy. But packing all the information into a game's title is a lot like making sure that the first line of your news piece hits as many keywords as possible, even if it's a long string of nonsense: it's great for SEO.
So, I present to you: some new title ideas for the sequel to Breath of the Wild. If I turn out to be on the money with any of these, you all owe me £5.
The Legend of Zelda: Take That Pointy Thing In Your Hand And Stick It Into That Goblin Over There. If You Die, You'll Probably Get A Game Over, But You Can Just Walk Back Here. We Reckon You'll Beat Ganon At Some Point, The Game's Not That Hard.
A straight-up copy of the title above? Unlikely. Nintendo has always gone its own way when it comes to Zelda titles, as long as you ignore the extremely basic "The Adventure of Link" and focus more on the titles where they make up their own words, like "Minish Cap" and "Majora's Mask".
The odds for this one are about 545:1, probably. Relatedly, I don't know how odds work. Don't tell me in the comments, I don't want to learn.
The Legend of Zelda: The One Where Zelda Gets Into A Pickle, This Time Involving Some Kind Of Lich, And Link Solves It The Only Way He Knows How: Killing Small And Medium Things Until He Gets To Kill The Big Thing
Realistically, how likely is it that Nintendo is going to take their title cues from Friends? Maybe they're all watching American sitcoms on their lunch breaks, I don't know. But I wouldn't say no to a Phoebe cameo. Maybe she can be Beedle's girlfriend.
Unlikely, but charming. Odds are roughly 60183:1 on this one.
The Legend of Zelda: Young Man Wearing Green Slaughters Local Fauna, Steals a Bunch Of Stuff From Temples, And Eventually Saves Monarch From Being Eaten And/Or Turned Into Energy Juice By A Pig-Man
Pure speculation, I know, but the new Breath of the Wild 2 (tentative title) will probably involve at least one of these elements, right? This one does read a bit like a headline in a Floridian newspaper, though. The vibes are decidedly more "you'll never guess what your weird cousin did now" than they are "Legend of Zelda". I'll give this one odds of about 420:1.
But long titles aren't the only trend in video games lately. Let's widen the net a little, shall we?
The Legend of Zelda: [WORD]
Drawing its inspiration from the way Monster Hunter titles have been going lately — Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise, in particular — what if we just get a lovely one-word title following straight on from the iconic moniker? It's difficult to know exactly what word sums up a Zelda game, but looking at past games makes it easy.
You've got The Legend of Zelda: Time, The Legend of Zelda: Mask, The Legend of Zelda: Hat... they're usually all tied to a single object. Breath of the Wild, on the other hand, would probably just be called The Legend of Zelda: Big, on account of its huge open world, so maybe the sequel can be The Legend of Zelda: Bigger?
The Legend of Zelda: Chill Lo-Fi Beats To Defeat The Dark Lord To
Let's really target that Gen Z demographic. They're already all listening to Zelda and Animal Crossing music while they study, anyway.
The Legend of Zelda: Tony Hawk's Sid Meier's Tom Clancy's Director's Cut Remastered Game of the Year Edition Ultimate Version Cloud Edition HD
Do you really need a title when you've got all these big names, features, and awards? Heck no.
The Legend of Zelda: Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry™ Series
Sony just released an HD version of the "Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry™ Series" stickers, and, yes, I am suspicious of the timing. Could this be a hint at a potential cameo in the latest Zelda game? Yes! Of course. Obviously.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Listen, if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare can use the same title twice, so can Nintendo.
Untitled Legend of Zelda Game
HONK.
It's likely that we won't find out if any of these are right for some time, so while we wait: why not get your ideas in? Maybe someone at Nintendo will see this stupid article and feel inspired.
I calculate those odds to be roughly 999999:1.

My idea for the sequel idea would be "Shadows of the Fallen"
It takes place at least partially underground and deals with the undead. Plus it sounds really cool and rolls off the tongue.
Breath of the Wild 2: The Search for More Money

The Legend of Zelda: But You're My Stepfather!?
New legend of Zelda botw U deluxe
Breath of the Wild 2: Waiting to Exhale
Breath of the Wild 2: Beedle Booglaoo
It'll be called "Breath of the Wild 2" in Japan for sure. Probably not in the West.
From the trailer I gathered they were going to add some verticality to the map with caves, dungeons and the flying castle.
Therefore I propose ‘The Legend of Zelda: Depths of the Wild’
They could call it GTA V?
The Legend of Zelda & Knuckles.
Breath of Shadows.
The Legend of Zelda for Nintendo Switch ProTM
I'm of the opinion that it shouldn't have Breath of The Wild in the name. It should get a completely different name.
Breath of the Wild 2: The adventure of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda: Adjective Object
Zelda and Link's Lonely Hearts Club Band: Tabantha Wheat Fields Forever.

From day one, my vote has remained for The Legend of Zelda Death of the Wild
@TheJGG Nice one. I was thinking The Legend of Zelda: Shadows of the Wild.
Breath of the Wild 2: Pig in the City
Breath of the wild: laid% again
In my opinion a real sequel with the "2" on the title should be the next step on a more advanced system. Breath of the Wild: The second chapter sound fair
The odds for this one are about 545:1, probably. Relatedly, I don't know how odds work. Don't tell me in the comments, I don't want to learn.
@Dr_G_Lemaitre @Teksetter This is her comment, on a public forum. How will math and science education ever advance in the face of such obstinacy?
Maybe the topic of Zelda games puts her in a bad mood...
The Legend of Zelda: Dyspnea of the Claustrophobic Confines of Calamity!
The whole game is one big dungeon. Ganon has awakened. At the start of the game, Link and Zelda get seperated and plummit all the way to the deepest, darkest depths of Hyrule Castle. They must solve puzzles and fight their way to the top, where Ganon awaits (with the occassional jaunt into Hyrule - I mean, surely no one is wanting to explore it all again!). Link and Zelda must use cooperation and coordination to solve puzzles they can't surpass individually, and find a way to each other before the final confrontation. (Heck, their might be some semblance of multiplayer?)
Hows that?
Beedle Booglaoo
@Rambler Leave that good-for-nothing out of this.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Curse of the Necromancer...
Or, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2: The Legend of Curly's Gold
Almost burst out laughing in my online choir practice reading The Legend of Zelda: Hat
The Legend of Terrako. BOTW was building up to the main character of the entire Zelda series, Terrako! All future games will star him as the protagonist! Hyrule is safe under his protecting beam! Hylia is unnecessary! All shall tremble before our mechanical overlord!
The Legend of Zelda: Joy con drift
@samuraicop I love it.
The Legend of Zelda: Tame Exhalation.
The Legend of Zelda: Sigh of the Behaved
Seriously though.. My step-cousins uncles friends brother, who totally works at Nintendo, told them that Tingle will play more than a big part in the game.. So my guess is:
The Legend of Zelda: Tingle's Terrific Tale of Two Teens in Trouble.
Or The Legend of Zelda: The Tale of Two Tingles. (could also be The Legend of Zelda: The Tale of The Two-tailed Tingle)
Maybe The Legend of Zelda: How to Tame your Tingle.
But not ruling out The Legend of Zelda: Showdown in Little Tingletown or The Legend of Zelda: Two Tingles One Clock
And lastly (for this time) The Legend of Zelda: Kooloo-Limpah.
The Legend of Zelda: Wash them Yourself is a sandbox , life sim. Ganon has been vanquished and peace has finally made Hyrule its domain.
You play as Zelda and you and Link have established a home in a quaint, wooded area.
You spend your days tidying up, doing chores and washing Link’s green hat and tunic.
Every day, the same green tunic and hat. Link busies himself by searching hyrule over, finding blocks to shove around. He listens for something every time he finds a block but hears nothing and his search continues.
Meanwhile, as Zelda, you continue to wash the same damn green cap and shirt.
You win the game when you craft a knife and slit his throat.
I'm still partial to "Breath Wilder"
I would go for The Legend of Zelda: Resurrection. Just because it not only fits the theme of the game of Ganon resurrecting and potentially Hyrule as well but it just sounds cool.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind of The Willows
I rather enjoy the chill lo-fi beats to defeat the dark lord to.
The Legend of Zelda: The Quantum of Solace
"Breath of Evil" like that one fake leak from October or so, and it's also like "Faces of Evil"

On E3, they’re announcing N64 on Online w/ the two Zelda titles doubling as the anniversary celebration. Possibly one of the portables too. That leaves Windwaker, if I’m not mistaken. Either GameCube online too or as separate. Mario having been limited, it’s either N64 online or N64 annnd GameCube.

Whole problem for me is that my switch is collecting dust at the moment.
Glad ive still got my wiiu, just finished playing windwaker & twilight princess hd versions, about to start ocarina of time and metroid prime trilogy.
GAMES THAT SHOULD OF BEEN ON THE SWITCH BY NOW!!!!
The Legend of Zelda: 2 Breath 2 Wild.
That Zelda and Chill album by Mikel is amazing. He also has a volume 2 and a Pokémon and Chill out, which are also really good.
Keep the entire overworld, just make done changes to show time past and things coming back together. Add in a lorule or dark world kind of thing, and dungeons. Keep sword mechanics etc. just update some. Please. Just give us classic dungeons and I’ll be happy.
The Legend of Zelda: X of the Y; solve mysterious equations in mysterious dungeons to earn rupees and spend on gear which break easily and then rinse and repeat till you approach Ganon who makes you realise that you need to be more powerful, so raid weird assassins' lairs to get a lot of bananas to cook a banana curry to get your stats boosted and then kick Ganon's posterior so hard that he is gone till another game arrives.
Breath of the Wild: 2econd Coming
@COVIDberry
Thank you for bringing this CALAMITY to my attention! I’m sure mathematicians everywhere would be outraged by Kate’s snub of their honorable discipline, IF Kate didn’t cleverly distract them into formulating Zelda titles first.
I think maybe the one-word trend will win out, which means The Legend of Zelda: HYAAAUGHARH may contend since Link lacks marketable catchphrases.
Or maybe Aonuma-san is a secret math nerd himself and will nudge Kate and others back toward the light with The Legend of Zelda: Tingle’s Brain Training?
@NIN10DOXD I was thinking along the lines of "Breath of ___ but something else instead of Wild. Or Maybe "____ of the wild."
I've been a big fan of the rumored name "Secrets of the Wild".
The Legend of Genshin Impact: Breath of the Fenyx Rising 2. A Link to the expansion pass deluxe.
This article shouldn't have made me chuckle. But it did 😆
What did I just read? O.o
It will be Zelda Twilight of the Wild or
Zelda Dawn of the Wild.
People forget that in Japan, A Link Between Worlds was just called Kamigami no Triforce 2 - i.e., A Link to the Past 2 (or literally, Triforce of the Gods 2).
It's already happened in the series, there's no rule against having sequels just slap a 2 on it in the Zelda series.
The Legend of Zelda: Future Connected
The Legend of Zelda: Zelda's Legend
TLoZ: Seal of the Ancients
TLoZ: Spirit's Reckoning
Breath of the Wild 2: The dungeons we held out of the first one
The Legend of Zelda: The wild breath
Tloz: Breath of the wild : two
Because it will have two payable characters, playing in couch coop.
It'll probably be
The Legend of Zelda: __________ ___ the Wild
For example, Return to the Wild, or Legacy of the Wild.
Zelda and the lack of real dungeons. Unless of course they actually have more than 4 this time in which case I'll be pretty shocked.
Wait what about Hyrulians creed 2?
@TheJGG,
That sounds like a title from a Star Wars movie, good one though.
Breath is one of my least favourite words, I hate it xxx
The Legend of Zelda: Man, I Hate Horses
I'll admit that a lot of people probably wouldn't like that one, but I'd feel pretty good about playing it.
A Breath of Fresh Air
@Eddy9000
Well I look at it like this firstly you have to have dreams 😂
On a serious note, the real in house AAA studios have not produced much recently and it will have been about 4 years and 8 months come this November 2021 since BOTW.
The game engine is there and most assets from BOTW so to me it should happen.
The same with Mario Odyssey, that will be fours years this October.
Mario Kart was a remake with some extra tracks
4 years 8 months this November.
The list goes on it’s been many many years since a big one or two in house AAA studio game.
People think games like Luigi mansion 3, Yoshi etc are in house they are not they are made at 2nd party studios out sourced.
Nintendo need to give us something and they owe to their fans and the 85 million switches sold.
They must be extremely cash rich at the minute.
@Magician The Legend of Zelda: We Ain't Found S***
The Legend of Zelda: Build houses over the wild
The Legend Of Zelda's Morning Breath
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Bad Hat Day. Featuring Conker from the Conker series, and free Game Pass on Switch. Unless you die. Then the Calamity Ganon wins forever.
@duffmmann breathe <-> suffocation, maybe?
Legends of the Hidden Zemple: Olmec’s Odyssey
@SortingHat I did the story and I think all the shrines I swear! The word breathe is fine but breath sounds yucky to say! X
Legend of Zelda Curse of the Wild?or Legend of Zelda Hyrule downfall?
@Dr_G_Lemaitre Didn't realize that you didn't want to talk to me. Sorry, won't happen again.
@COVIDberry
Whoa-
Sorry there was a mis understanding ?
@COVIDberry
I think it might be how I used the “@s”
I was saying like “hi berry, I didn’t know teck..” ...etc.
Thanks for posting back. I am not so good at my science girl humor spots either (they hit or miss ). But it’s fun to add some math/science to the hobby.
Sorry for the confusion, but we are good I just write poorly (in flashes on my phone ~~ auto correct etc)
@Teksetter @COVIDberry
Hi, just in case there was anything written in my initial comment (#178 ) that has an unknown meaning to me or just comes across wrong I’m deleting it.
No bad feelings toward covidberry, teksetter, NL, or anyone else intended
The comment was:
A: a sort of introduction to teksetter thanks to covidberry
B: commentary with limited equations as a joke response on how to solve the probability of a given Zelda title.
In closing, if you missed it~ nice to know you teksetter, I go by “Science Girl” when I write a silly post, else my name indicates my passion for science and my adorbs bangs.
@Dr_G_Lemaitre
Hi and thank you! I did totally miss your comment and really could only guess why @COVIDberry brought up my name, but hey! It’s nice to be thought of! I hope the furball had nice things to say about me. 😅
Anyway, I’d never pass up the chance to joke around in the comments for another lovably bizarre Kate article.
So I’m pleased to meet you! Despite my handle I’m not all that math- or science- inclined but a Japanese TV show did try to audition me for a robot anime knowledge showdown once, so maybe I get geek cred for that.
I would trade that for decent bangs any day though.
The Legend Of Zelda: Modern Dwarf Air 🤓
The Legend Of Zelda: Tomb's Day
(geddit, because Doom's Day but they're searching for a tomb)
The Legend Of Zelda: Return To Calamity
(They seem to have a thing for this word lately, so why not)
Or, The Legend Of Zelda: Hyrule Rising
(geddit, because we see Hyrule literally rising in the trailer)
Yup, definitely one of those. My vote is for Modern Dwarf Air.
The Legend of Zelda: Timeless Stones
I think you forgot the very obvious sequel titles
Legend of Zelda: Revelations
Legend of Zelda: Revengeance
Legend of Zelda: Armageddon
BOTW 2: The COPD experience
Stamina depletes twice as fast and instead of the Master Sword it's the inhaler of light.
An industry insider is my uncle no lie, y'all are gonna look stupid when you realise I was right.
@Teksetter I have only good impressions of you, my fellow gamer. I guess I shouldn't have messaged people who didn't respond directly to the article, huh? I felt certain you were a science-type person (you can be an honourary one?).
Also, I respect your linguistic éliteness. (I will not say that I have studied the basics of Japanese, since I have been busy with other languages. My ex is a lingust, though, and so I have some idea of the interesting structure of the language.)
@COVIDberry
Good Morning and thank you, CB!
I adore and harbor the utmost respect for the science-y people I encounter in life, so maybe I've come to emulate you in a way.
I'm content to admire from afar, but certainly would cherish an honourary visitor's pass to your esteemed community!
And I'm grateful and flattered you name-dropped me! Except for that I would have missed out on a fun discussion, and never encountered @Dr_G_Lemaitre. It's always a pleasure to get acquainted with new friends, especially during this COVID stasis you've mentioned.
Japanese really is a fascinating language, and rewarding to learn for those of us who grew up appreciating the games, animation, and comics/manga exported from Japan.
I've been meaning to ask: your avatar looks so familiar, but I can't place it. Is that toothy furball something Jeff Smith (creator of Bone) drew?
@COVIDberry @Teksetter
Teksetter, Seeing how it developed~~
I’m guessing that covidberry might have me on “ignored” status to avoid accidental contact and thus missed the reply.
If it’s nbd let berry know: I was never mad, it was just a mix up?
As for your comment 181 (srys it’s been a few days, science waits for no one)
I’m getting that you’re both pretty smart, yet humble about it. and~~~ for once in my life~~~ you’d be somebody to just love me for my hair instead of focusing on my mind.
lol
Now- does this game show add an idea to Zelda titles? eg
TLOZ: Divine Beast vs Gundam Mech
(My knowledge on both topics is pretty low)
But link got a motor bike right? (Or are those m kart pics... )
@Dr_G_Lemaitre
Oooh the intrigue! This is so cool, I get to liaison between two estranged scientists! I see no way to PM people here, so I'll just try here in the comments section. Here goes...
@COVIDberry
Dr_G_Lemaitre suspects you put her on "ignored" status (which would surprise me, but I have no idea what transpired) and she asked me to mediate!
She says she is not mad, and there was just a mix up with @'s and perhaps you didn't see her replies Friday night.
If you can unignore her, you can see her comments #178-180 for an explanation. She seems like a genuinely keen person to chat with, and purports having adorbs bangs so I hope you can make up.
Anyway, to stay on topic, YES, BOTW2 needs more giant mechs, preferably the battling, transforming kind that can COMBINE to take down Ganon's mech (CALAMITY) in a climactic winner-takes-Hyrule death match! I imagine the Divine Beasts, Champions' descendants at the helm, uniting with Link's motorbike for the head.
Clearly, this BOTW sequel will have to be titled
ゼルダの伝説・超機甲神獣合体創世記
(Zeruda no Densetsu: Choukikoushinjuugattai Souseiki)
Legend of Zelda: Record of Super Mobile Armored Divine Beast Combiner Genesis
You heard it here first! Thanks for reading.
@Teksetter
Thanks~ over and above! ~ I really try to be a kind presence so I’ve been worried I wrote something accidentally offensive to covidberry, hope all is smoothed out now.
On the topic ~ I love that you have the right details, ~like that “no densetu” looks familiar! Even if you made it up I wouldn’t know, but I looked up that “Chou......” So fun!
Looks like you re-conjugated something like this~
https://myanimeshelf.com/upload/dynamic/2017-04/19/1000085340_11.jpg
And
‘Densetu’ being the Legend part...
Lol you’re so fun! Thanks I’m betting on your guess for sure
@Dr_G_Lemaitre
Think nothing of it - I hope Covidberry sees and whatever misunderstanding it was is cleared up, bc you both seem like exceedingly cool people. 😁
And really, the pleasure was all mine - I haven’t had an excuse to play with anime titles like that since long before changing my gender marker to “Nintendo fangirl.” 😉
Thanks for the inspiration!
Just now I corrected the order of the Japanese Mech Zelda title and tweaked the English translation a bit because I want it to be JUST RIGHT when Aonuma-san announces it later this year!
Then I can get @KateGray senpai to notice me! 😇
@Teksetter For some reason I am not getting notifications when you reply to me (they seem to work fine for everyone else), so I am really glad I refreshed here! Yes, I will reinstate Dr_G_Lemaitre... once my brain has awoken fully in a few minutes. It's nice of you to intercede, I should say.
My avatar is directly taken from DKC Returns (the unlockable art). I was not familiar enough with J. Smith's work to have seen his furry vision, but, uh [judiciously engine-searching]... it looks quite scary! Even I don't ever appear that demonic...
Japanese, of course, fascinates the ear, and the pronunciation certainly seems easier to me than French/English/Spanish. I want to gain a level of skill before I visit. Have you ever been?
@COVIDberry
Yay! So happy to have brokered a happy reunion! That counts as today’s good deed.
Notifications seem sporadic for me, too - maybe you only get one notice per sender per article? Just guessing...
I lived in Osaka for nearly eight years and communicated in Japanese for most of that time. I’d say it certainly is easier to pronounce than Spanish or French for a native English speaker.
Great place to visit or live. Knowledge of the language is optional, really, but so very rewarding!
I guess Other doesn't work so...
The Legend of Zelda: WHAT THE F*#% IS THAT THING KILL IT LINK!!!
@Dr_G_Lemaitre It seems I misunderstood your intent. At the time your message came across to me as dismissive and sarcastic, as if you were not impressed by my contacting you, and perhaps wondering if Kate actually needed to read about probability (which is fair, since she said not). Nonetheless, I do accept your word now. I can be quite sarcastic myself, but I try not to court too much direct conflict these days...
And, yes, those are nice bangs. Let's carry on, spectroscopy and all.
@Teksetter
Are there any Robo/Mech anime you’d recommend to the Zelda fans? Or in general?
(Srys if this is a silly question, really not familiar w either series)
Sub-topic response to teksetter:
In science etc although beauty and elegance are appreciated, the superficial is not (this of course is a gross generalization, and it seems to be less than when I started, or maybe I’m less prone..)
So having cute hair can be a way to squeeze a little identity in or can be seen as superficial depending on the perspective. All getting at:
I initially had a bigger reply when I wrote “[love my bangs]” etc saying how we should ~wink~ irl do our hair together and I have all these tips etc but realized I was going overboard and you might be just being friendly~~~SO but the point is how interesting, though not the same, I see your mention on ‘fan girl’ and wonder if you actually helped me understand my ideal cute bangs obsession in light of my identity...
@COVIDberry
Thanks for writing!
Yes, it was a confusion of meaning then!
Def not trying to be sarcastic against you.
If anything I think the stuck up academic is the joke~ but being that I’m covered in education makes it confusing for on lookers.
I’m with you on avoiding courting conflict, at least personal (I love conflict and such in formal matters like science). So my priority one is to help online friends have a better day ~~ seriously~~ let me know if anything I write comes across a bit off. Even to someone else. I never want to do that.
I honestly had no ill will towards anyone at NL, or Kate so my “humor” on writing out equations for things they don’t really need to be used for is just a self directed joke at my community (scientists) who sometimes act like an equation is all that is needed for everything
But
Even IRL I have had people think I’m being sarcastic when I’m trying to just be kind, so I’ll do my best to be sensitive to that too.

There are so very many robot/mech anime titles out there, it boggles the mind (well, mine at least). Honestly, though, I'm a semi-retired geezer in anime fan reckoning. I've barely watched any new shows since leaving Japan in 2005! If you don't mind me selecting from the dreadfully old shows I've watched, though, my recommendations follow...
GIANT ROBO: The Day the Earth Stood Still
(1992-1998; 7eps, original video series)
Very future-retro mix of old Mitsuteru Yokoyama adventure and historical comics. You can feel the weight and scale of the robots, it's how I'd want Zelda mechs to be presented! Characters and action are WAY over the top, orchestral and opera music is moving, and I think science girls can enjoy the Dr. Shizuma vs. Dr. Von Fogler backstory. But the series can be kind of dry and, umm... masculine? Not a lot of inspiring gals in the cast, but I could say that about most of the robot anime I've watched. I like to think that boss baddie code-named Big Fire is totally non-binary, though.
Aim for the Top! GUNBUSTER
(1988-1989; 6eps, original video series)
Enormous super robot vs. galaxy-devouring insect/fungus hordes. This series by GAINAX (who later brought us Evangelion) is heavy on science, science-fiction, and borderline obscene amounts of fan service. I think you'd love the chibi SD Science Lessons between each ep, and the titular mech Gunbuster has homing lasers so there is that.
I would love to see Zelda pilot her mech with the same passion and drama as Gunbuster pilots Noriko and Kazumi (just maybe with fewer booty shots...)
Super Dimensional Fortress MACROSS
(1982-1983; 36 eps, TV)
Also movie version: MACROSS: Do You Remember Love (1984)
Just a general recommendation here... This is mainly a love story, with cool mechs: Valkyries! Jet fighters that turn into robots (Battroids), or hovering half robot/half jets (Gerwalks).
Macross formed the best part of the ROBOTECH TV show that aired in the West. May be dated now, but had an imaginative premise and moving story - it was the first and only series I ever watched in its entirety with my Japanese GF back in the day.
I imagine the Divine Beast robots would fight with melee weapons consistent with the Zelda-verse, kind of like bigger versions of mechs in Vision of Escaflowne.
In united form, the Divine Beast "Megazord" would probably look a bit like DANCOUGA, with Vah Medoh docking to form wings on the robot's back.
Sheesh I could go on and on... Sorry!

Distracted by robot-talk, I forgot the sub topic!
I can imagine how beauty and elegance could be dismissed as superficial in scholarly circles, but would hope that people will forgive wanting to present yourself well or obsess over your hair somewhat. Who can fault you for integrating a little "hair/bangs fangirl" into your "science girl" identity?! I'd say people are multidimensional and our individuality and uniqueness should be respected (or celebrated!).
Also: friendly hair tips would be great ~ I'm new to long hair and could certainly use the advice ~ but at my age options are limited and my cis hairdresser doesn't quite know what to do with me! Hair is a battle that can get dysphoric real quick, so I don't fuss with it too much.
@Teksetter
I’ll set up a side section to continue style’n talk so feel free to respond if you don’t get the “@“ soon.
I’ll be checking if any of these recommendations are available etc ~ but great selection! Ty! ~to go with the next Zelda game now I’ll be ~almost~ disappointed if it doesn’t emphasize the giant robo nature of the caves,dungeons, etc.
That battleroids/gerwalks bit ~ pretty nice info~ I didn’t realize this was a recognized type. I had run across a battleroid thing a while ago that inspired an art project and assumed it was a ‘transformers” derivative or the reverse. I’ll at least go and search on those keywords to fill out that background.
Thanks!
Wow, Zelda to battleroids: only here on Nintendo Life people!
