Re: Nintendo Accused Of Allowing "Pirated Software On The eShop" By GBA Emulator Developer

FargusPelagius

@AlienX yeah so looks like whoever is involved in the Switch version used the freeware emulator as a shortcut. Probably the cheapest way, so creator should have a credit.
Totally misread your post at first, thinking M2 had also done "this" Switch emulation (and therefore used their base emulator for Wii U). Which would have made so much more sense from a publishing perspective as the work was already done for the Wii U release on a comparably powerful processor. It just needed a front end wrapper.

Re: Soapbox: Be Happy, This Is The True Golden Age Of Gaming

FargusPelagius

Loved "the Speccy" growing up, especially reading the magazines that had games in Blitz basic to copy and alter if you grasped it.
The thing i love most about the current age of gaming, is that there is still a chance to experience alot of the older systems (some still work!). Either using proper hardware, or usually competent emulation.
As an old timer my "Golden age" was definitely the 90's, so much changed for gaming in those 10 years.

Re: Talking Point: New Super Mario Bros. Is 15 Years Old, And It's Still Fantastic

FargusPelagius

"the clue is in the title, New..." I hope you realise that isn't a "fond rememberence", that is stating this is a new Super Mario Brothers game. To me as a customer that means new modern gameplay ideas and gameplay. I thought all the New Mario's were rather bland and a far cry from Six Golden coins, SMB 3 and Super Mario World. But i am not a Mario Fan, however even i will assert (as a gamer) that Galaxy is perhaps his best outing to date.
I would actually be interested if Nintendo "could" actually nail a modern Super Mario bros, but it won't happen.
Super Mario Maker is them kind of passing the mantle to the player base. With more limited tools, even some of the courses i have played had more merit than Nintendo offerings.

Re: Last Year, Roughly 20% Of Switch Console Sales Went To Households That Already Owned One

FargusPelagius

Bought two at launch. Moved house and gave one to my brother. My sister bought one for her son. So my family has 3, but each is a separate household (so we don't count to this stat).
Also to put a little more context to the article, Switch sales last fiscal year were 28.83 million. So 5.766 million known households that have bought 2 Switch's, last fiscal year (not in total).

Re: Random: Check Out These "Mock-Ups" Of Game Boy Advance For Switch Online

FargusPelagius

Honestly, four years into Switch, NSO should have Nes, Snes, N64, GB, GBA and DS All started (10 games minimum each) and adding new or alternate tweaked games once a month. They have the budget and it would only "grow" NSO sub count. I cancelled my sub last year, only monster Hunter Rise has made me even consider renewing, but my friends don't sub either yet, so no point.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About E3 2021?

FargusPelagius

I am getting very very drunk those 4 days as i was meeting my mates on a delayed holiday (cheers Lockdown). But i will definitely check out the first Gameplay footage of Metroid Prime 4 (it's happening!) , between pints!

Re: Random: Did You Know Link Can Ride On Giant Barrels In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild?

FargusPelagius

It's a systems based game the interactions are up to the players imagination. Think i did this by accident about 5 hours in on Switch version with my nephew. I'd done the opening of the Wii U version that morning so already knew how to get about. As on Switch we did a co op so were mostly goofing about to see what mischief we could do. You could do this on the chopped trees too, so that was the give away for the barrel roll.
Edit: just remembered, we rolled ours first using it to cover our approach to a moblin group, i even did the metal gear solid music for added effect.

Re: Nintendo's Ready For Acquisitions, When The Time Is Right

FargusPelagius

@rockodoodle you are spot on. How much of the revenue is from software that was initially developed for Wii U and taken from Nintendo's coffers during that period. They are killing it with Switch, but 40-50% of the foundation work was already in place. Reggie was right with his "failure forward" quote.

Re: Former Metroid Prime Lead Designer Targeted With Abusive Messages

FargusPelagius

Aye, no need to personally abuse the guy. Feel free to doubt him and hope Nintendo did do a "herculean" effort for the series (afterall MP 4 "is" on the table), like i actually believe is the case. His comments make the initial failures of both Nintendo and Retro Studios, completely understandable, doing MP justice new or old is "work".

Re: Feature: Game Builder Garage Could Help Make The Next Generation Of Game Devs

FargusPelagius

Actually glad they announced this and i will certainly check it out. Last game i built was in Unity, was a basic marble and maze game using unities built in physics, based on the tutorial and built out more to resemble an actual game (think i had 7 levels, then ran out of steam/enthusiasm).
My favourite was a Star Wars Text adventure i made on the ZX Spectrum, stealing a storm trooper outfit to get passed the search party out in the Dune sea, to visit Obi Wan before he meets Luke in A New Hope. Had to then steal a ship and divert the Empire while Obi Wan hooked up with Luke, Han an Chewie. Your character was the reason the two star destroyers in orbit were completely out of position when the Falcon takes off from Mos Eisley.

Re: Metroid Prime Trilogy Switch Port? Unlikely, Says Former Retro Studios Dev

FargusPelagius

He clearly doesn't realise both Joy con and Pro controller have the Gyro for aiming, so that isn't an issue at all. The gestures, using the nun chuck to pull off pieces of armour and the odd door lever twist are all that need addressing. Hardly herculean, theres at least 3 extra buttons to override the old inputs. Someone could slap dash it in a few weeks in an emulator, a professional company like Nintendo? Sure give them a year to port it, as that is literally the only hurdle.
Skyward Sword also proves Nintendo is completely capable of de-motioning gameplay and that was a poorly selling Zelda game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 8th)

FargusPelagius

I just like the fact that i immediately recognised the picture from Sin and Punishment Successor to the skies, then read to see who was actually playing it . Video game wise for me, it might well be RE village if i give in and buy it. Been playing FF tactics advance and final fight one via Wii U the past few days.

Re: Talking Point: Should Nintendo Do More DLC For Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Or Just Release Mario Kart 9 Already?

FargusPelagius

Yeah i would get either to be honest. The quality of the original DLC tracks was great compared to the price, about £7 for four well made tracks. They could do new tracks, new racers and perhaps a full set of "retro" tracks with a renewed twist to suit MK8s gameplay.
I feel DLC would be positive for the massive player base. An all new game would have to really "Wow" people and that is a harder ask, especially as MK8 is already a strong entry.

Re: PSA: Yes, Your DS And 3DS Cartridges Will Eventually Deteriorate, But Don't Panic

FargusPelagius

It states in the license that if your media storage device (this covers disks, cartridges, game cards etc) should fail, the publisher can replace them for a fee. It is looking like the duty of preservation is down to the publisher of the game license and any "reasonable" request of replacement by the license holder would be actionable by Law.
This actually means an awful lot of game companies are in deep *hit in regards to games that are faulty within 2 years (Batman Arkham city Armoured edition springs to mind, as every launch copy had a bug that rendered Harley's revenge unplayable). Any longer than 2 years and the Publisher can argue the License loses validity. It's not been tried in a court to see the actual outcome though. New territory just like internet Law.

Re: Nintendo's Upcoming Release Schedule For 2021 Looks Positive, With Room For More

FargusPelagius

@NGNYS I'm fairly sure all the prospective owners of a Wii U would have laughed and felt vindicated for not buying one, if this was the actual release schedule. Me being a Wii U owner would have even been a little disappointed ( but pokemon Snap and game builder garage would have worked so well on Wii U). You are comparing something with a 13 mil user base with something that has 85 mil and rising. The fans of Switch aren't the same as the fans of Wii U, of course expectations are a little higher.

Re: Feature: Every Mega Man Game Ranked

FargusPelagius

I thought there were well over 100 Megaman games? I distinctly remember reading about 63 of them waaaaaaay back in the early naughties. I've played probably 30 myself though.
Edit: my favourites were X and 2 on my Gameboy back in the day. I enjoyed all the ZX's a few Battle ones on GBA. It states The GC/PS2 game as being unfair? That was the one i bought for £40 on release and completed that same afternoon, was rather disappointed in how easy it was.

Re: Random: Head Of Xbox Phil Spencer Still Has That Nintendo Switch On His Shelf

FargusPelagius

Both X Cloud and Nvidia Now can run on Switch. Might not be this year, perhaps when the libraries fill out more. Also there are a couple of games MS produce that make sense on Switch. They already let Blair Witch and Super Lucky's tale release. Battle toads, Rare Replay and Killer Instinct. Also Perfect Dark is getting a new installment so they could do a side project for Switch, remaster Zero or the Original etc.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Is About To Become Capcom's Best-Selling Single-Platform Game

FargusPelagius

Regardless it has sold very very well for a 3rd party game. If this doesn't make publisher's realise they should be making games with Switch in mind, nothing will. The release of PS5 and XSX/S should leave wiggle room for smaller dev teams to make something for Switch, instead of trying to hamfist something onto new Gen and failing to gain any audience because of bigger studios and budgets.

Re: Free Super Mario Party Update Gives Massive Boost To Online Play

FargusPelagius

Enough people i know own this game just to have some fun with their family. It was heavily bundled with Switch in the U.K so this update is actually the least Nintendo should have done. Hopefully this will mean they either continue to support it or any sequel comes with much better online options from the outset. They should just add a DLC boards pack and make the Base game a "Nintendo Selects" first wave game (along with MK8, BotW and Oddessey).

Re: Talking Point: Wii Features We'd Love To See On Nintendo Switch

FargusPelagius

@BloodNinja Jedi Knight 2, but it is the PC version without online (that is reserved for Jedi Knight 3). The Gamecube version has a 2 player split screen with bots that i honestly love, but it was poo pooed then because it wasn't the PC versions 16 player online.
Edit: Also Ikaruga, but the GC version was ported from DC with extras.
Resident Evil, Zero, Resident Evil 4.
Still scope for more. I still play my GC regularly.
