WAKA, WAKA, WAKA - the moment has arrived, you can now download Bandai Namco's new battle royale game PAC-MAN 99.
Although this is a Switch Online exclusive, there is some DLC content allowing you to purchase a bunch of offline modes in a bundle for $14.99 USD (or your regional equivalent). In addition to this are various themes for $1.99 USD each.
Like Tetris 99, this Pac-Man battle royale throws 99 players into an arena and has everyone competing against each other to be the last Pac standing. Take a look at the trailer above to see how you can trouble your opponents on the battlefield.
To start playing this game, all you have to do is head over to the Switch eShop and start downloading it. It'll take up around 796MB of space. Will you be checking out this new NSO battle royale game? What's your best run so far? Tell us below.

I’ll lay least check it out, it’s been a long time since I played a pac man game.
I struggle enough with the original, let alone with other people sending more ghosts my way. But I have online, so may as well give it a shot.
waka waka waka
I’ll miss SMB 35, but this has the potential to be pretty addictive. I’ve played some matches and it’s cool. Just need to figure out how everything works lol.
@FroZtedFlakerZz
Dang it, you beat me to it
It's not available in Brazil yet :///
Not interested in NSO. I'll hold out for a physical edition a la Tetris 99 that will include all of the DLC on a cartridge (and likely some kind of NSO subscription).
Now maybe the Super Mario 35 players will quit crying a out Super Mario 35.
Unlike Mario 35, I'd probably play it once for like, 30 minutes and never touch it again...
Anyways we'll never know what will happen because of Rise.
Defidently wont be as good as mario 35, but I'm excited non the less!
I'll probably download it just to have it since I doubt it'll take up much space. Wonder if they'll have a DLC to add single player like with Tetris 99. Would love to see more retro games as 99 games though, they're at least fun to watch.
Notched my first victory! Interesting game with a good deal of subtle strategy.
Loving it already. Could never get into Mario, I couldn’t understand the battle aspect of it. I’d just play thru everything- everything seemed good and suddenly my time would just drop to zero. PacMan and tetris have always been my jam anyways. I just think this battle mode works better with puzzle/maze games. Now figure out a way for them to incorporate Ms Pac Man
While I doubt it will be as fun or have the same variety as SM35... I surelly going to keep goving it a try.
Played a few matches, Im no near the top ten yet.
Send them Pac-ing! Be the leader of the Pac! Pac a punch!
@NickDaddyCool You really missed a great game with SM35.... When you get the hang of it, it was awesome.
Not that it matter anymore, the trick was not to finish the levels really, but to kill as much enemies as you can, specially using the "domino" effect when killong one after another in order to gain as much time as you could....
@shoeses, single player is already available. It’s paid DLC, just like in Tetris 99.
Does anyone know what the Train power-up does? I toggle between Speed and Power, which seems to work pretty well.
I just realized that pac-man looks like a pizza.
@Burning_Spear could you share some advice for it? Played a few rounds, didnt get to the top 20...
@HotGoomba lol, you are like 40 years late for that realization...
From the designer itself, he said he based Pac Man character from a pizza.
@Zequio Prioritize eating the fruit items to reset the board, and, of course, eat the vertical trail of sleeping ghosts that appear when a new board arrives. Those things turn one ghost into a train of ghosts. Every ghost you eat goes onto another player's board as a jammer. I more or less leave my power-up on Speed, but when I encounter a slew of jammers I switch to Power to get through them more easily and then move back to Speed. And don't worry about clearing the regular pellets. Just keep eating the power pellets and the fruit.
@Burning_Spear @Zequio but also if you do eat all the pellets on the board you get a speed upgrade
But I’ve only gotten a 2nd place and a bunch of 5ths. I haven’t even changed speed/power thing yet
@adh56 Good to know. Thanks!
I played this for an hour and 45 minutes. So far my best ranking has been 3rd place. I always panic towards the end.
I definitly will try, but when I have a little nore time.
@Burning_Spear seems like if you’re switching around your power up it’ll reset that speed upgrade for clearing the board
It's definitely a lot to take in. It's different from Tetris 99 and Mario 35, because you generally have one focal point to focus on at a time.
With Pac-man 99, you pretty much have to micromanage, prioritize, and pray you're at the right place at the right time. It makes a bit more sense once you get the hang of it, but I'd say this is the hardest of the Retro Battle Royale games so far.
Oooh! Looks fun!
@Tott good news for you then: nobody can send ghosts your way, you control if you have extra ghosts.
Couldn't get into Tetris 99 or Mario 35, but this I am really into. I have so far spent a while playing this game (definitely more than hour), and I am loving every second of this game. <3
@NickDaddyCool if they came out with a Ms Pacman theme, I'm totally buying it!
I love Pacman, so no surprise I love this game. Its got that "just one more run" appeal to it. Can you unlock themes and emblems or are they only available for purchase?
@DTFaux Agreed! I love Pac-Man, but there is a lot going on in this game. There is a simplicity to the original game that is lost here. In contrast, T99 still plays and feels like Tetris.
I appreciate the tips and advice in the comments. I haven’t given up yet. Maybe I will like it when I understand the mechanics better.
In my opinion pac-man 99 is better than mario 35
Enter Billy Mitchell
I’ll give it a go but I’ve not been fussed by these 99 games so far despite my love for the original games.
Digging it so far. A lot to keep track of. I wish the power ups were explained better....
Hurry up with F zero 100, death race, the BR that should have come out back in 2013 as soon as Shigsy said he didn't know how to bring something new to F zero.
Unlike Tetris 99 there doesn’t seem to be a wireless local play mode which greatly depresses me.
@Zequio @Slowdive lmao I forgot to put /s (sarcasm) but lol thanks anyways
Mario died so this could live. His death happened for a cash grab. He died in vain.
They should have done something fun with the mario 35 app. Turned it into a mario museum or something (the sort of content that would have been nice in 3D all-stars).
Definitely trying this later today. I love tetris 99 (Even if i never managed to win a match in 90 hours) and loved Mario 35 (This one i managed to win some matches).
Hope they add more boards later on, the Ms. Pac Man one would be nice.
@Tasuki dang fam, have a heart - 35 was awesome
"WAKA WAKA WAKA!" - Fozzie Bear
I will definitely try this game out. I still haven't deleted Super Mario 35 yet in hopes that Nintendo will reinstate it. Sigh...
Here’s a guide that explains some stuff:
https://www.ginx.tv/en/video-games/pac-man-99-how-to-win-targetting-opponents-tips-and-more
Still don’t know if anything specific spawns red PAC-Man, but I did pick up a couple of victories last night.
@MrGrim Thanks for that. I was wondering why sometimes my power pellet lasted next to no time, I must have had 'stronger' selected.
@MrGrim Wow, those tips really were a big help! It may have also been having a night's play behind me, but I've already scored my second Pac-One after reading that article!
EDIT - Make that three wins, now!
@HotGoomba What can I said.. this is internet, and there are kids who just met Pac Man.... Sarcasm is lost sometimes
@Silly_G Hold your breath.
@Zequio So is grammar.
@TryToBeHopeful R.I.P. Mario
@tseliot lol sorry!.... y tu? Cuántos idiomas hablas? No siempre se puede tener una gramatica perfecta en todos los idiomas.
