@KingMike I mean, Nintendo kept naming their spinoffs in numbers. Mario Party continued that tradition all the way up until Switch, and Mario Kart too. Is there a chance the New Mario Kart will have a new name? Sure, but there'a a 50/50 chance it will be either a new name or Mario Kart 9. It's not wrong to call it either way.
@Samalik I didn't single out a single person. It's merely a byproduct of everyone having an opinion on something. Now if a comment was removed for whatever reason, I can only assume it was due to everything I said above.
Here's the thing. Moderating is a thankless job. Really, alot of people hate it because in the in end if something goes awry, moderators will get the blunt of the blame as you've seen in this comment section.
No one at NL is on witch hunt to silence you. They have rules like any other site and allow you to voice your opinion within reason. If your comment is removed then it's not a personal vendetta, it's because you have done something which calls for it's removal.
@Overzeal How you go about discussing something is what NL is removing. Problem with many commenters is they only know how to convey their thoughts via hyped up aggression which leads to petty arguments.
Next thing the comment section is just a flood of bickering with the original topic long since abandoned because now everyone has devolved into attacking eachother.
Part of moderation is to stop that and keep things civil. Which seems to be a challenge for most people. It's much easier to stop something before it begins than letting get to a point of needing to mass remove alot comments.
@sleepinglion You know, it's funny. I heard so much hate for that show and other shows of this era from fans; And how old Trek, more specifically the Picard era was superior.
As someone who grew up in the era of these shows, but never paid attention, I took the time to actually sit down and watched all seven seasons and the show is just okay. Ultimately the show being episodic is both a strength and weakness. The strength is being able to tell self contained stories which allows creative freedom to go in any direction. The weakness however is every episode the characters "softly reset".
What I mean, Star Trek TNG suffers from poor character development. For 7 straight seasons across over 100 episodes the characters are no more different than who they were from the start. Take the character Riker for example. From Season 4 onward he's just sorta there. He's just around with very little to do. Or Diana who's just there to mostly be the hot girl and little to nothing else. Characters just remain stagnant.
TNG has interesting characters but doesn't do much with them. Another weakness is the very episodic nature itself. By having so many of them spread out through multiple seasons this has an impact on the quality of them, which ranges from bad to at best mediocre.
Are there standout Episodes? Yes, problem is, it's only a handful and sadly it's spread out over the seasons.
Personally, I don't get the overly love TNG gets and the overly hate the newest shows gets. From what I studied post OG series, the franchise has always been a bumpy ride.
DS9, Voyager, that 2001 series that didn't last very long. Just seems like a series that has been up and down since the original show ended.
Picard who's hailed has the pinnacle of captains is barely a character. Yes you know his position and where he stands, but because the very nature of episodes resetting, Picard, like the the rest, never evolves much as a character.
For example, Picard gets turned into a Borg, gets tortured, and lives a entire lifetime as a memory of a dead race. All of these are brilliant, but alas they end in the same episode where they begin. From there Picard is reset back to one with only minor references to his experiences. There is no exploration of him.
Then you look at a captain like Sisko who's everything Picard isn't. His character actually evolves. You see parts of him that stay over the course of the seasons rather than just vanish after the hour ends.
As an outsider I just fail to see the perfect shows from the past that are talked about so much while simultaneously stating the news one are so horrible they should be burned from what I see of fans.
To me all of Trek is just a giant sorta okay. But I will stop here and say there is one thing I find funny is post OG Trek, each iteration seems to share the same curse of terrible first couple of seasons.
@DanijoEX-the-Pierrot Thanks. I agree. I couldn't find the right word. I guess I'd like a movie more in tone with Batman: TAS. The show managed to mix in those fantastical elements, while also giving you a drama you can be engaged with a bit of camp on the side.
But I'd also would be fine with a even more campy Batman.
@JohnnyMind That's fine, but I guess for me there can be a breaking point when a movie is taking itself far too serious when it comes to the character.
Im not saying you can't have a serious Batman, I guess Im saying he doesn't have to be a hyper realistic very dark and gritty to seem grounded.
@JohnnyMind I don't see it personally. Shadow is an anti-hero and Batman is very much a hero. The only thing they have in common is brooding. But then again that is the version of Batman everyone loves now.
I miss the more lighter Batman. Not the overly serious Batman we got now. In trying to make him so hyper realistic these days to be more grounded, studios have robbed the character of the fantastical elements of his universe.
Like seriously, ever since Nolan hit the world with a "grounded" Batman, is been nothing but the most select few of his rogue gallery who can fit the dark and gritty bill.
I wish the people didn't just want a dark gritty "realistic" take on Batman because I want to see villains who got the short end of the stick from before make a grand return to the big screen.
Mr. Freeze, Poision Ivy. There other characters too, like Clayface who can be a good villian too. I just miss when Batman's universe wasn't so super dark these days in attempt to be "real".
And it just sucks, because I feel like you don't have to make a dark edgy realistic Batman or else people won't watch it. I can just enjoy a story of Batman trying to fight a guy who can freeze things because there is more to Mr.Freeze than his powers. It's a story of man trying to save his wife.
And that can be just as good on the big screen too.
@batmanbud2 Miyamoto funny enough recently addressed this. He doesn't care if a game has a story or not, it's just how he approaches games that is different. He's more exciting gameplay over heavy story type of dev and that's okay.
There is nothing wrong with a having a story in game, it's just games sometimes are terrible at balancing the two. You have games that are more about telling you a 70$ story, than letting you experience it.
@Lizuka What @Dr_Corndog said is correct. Koei Tecmo behind the Dynasty Warriors series effectively cut English dubbing from the majority of their western releases to save costs.
Voice acting is costly. Quality voice acting is expensive.
@John_Deacon Personally I would regret it. When toys are cheap, they can be fun to play with even as an adult. The more expensive they become, they stop being cool action figures and instead become that thing you you assemble once, pose it, then let sit on shelf to collect dust.
Every once in a blue moon I let my inner child out and just go back in time to when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's Shredder took on Spider-man.
@HXLXIII I say it because I did. Wish I could, but with the prices of Lego, I'd have to be a trillionaire just to afford every other set.
No, not everything before was the best, but I'd put something like Bioncle alone above every licensed property that came after.
Not every idea that came out of Lego was a smash hit. This is true for every company. Nowadays however, Lego can rely on the popularity and brand of others to float by which has led to varying degrees of quality.
Now about the word masterpiece. No Lego set was a masterpiece. The masterpiece was never in the sets, it was within you. The whole idea of Lego is to encourage your imagination. To let you be the storyteller. The masterpieces are things you able to construct from your mind.
This remains true even for sets based on licensed property such as Fortnite.
Check out "Ekow Nimako" when you have some time to see why I wouldn't call any Lego set a masterpiece. Rather what you do with those bricks I would call a masterpiece.
Lasty, I have no beef with Fornite. Beef is food, and im a part time vegetarian. My comment was a joke not to be taken seriously.
@traceman @roy130390 @SalvorHardin Well if you do a deep dive, there are speculative reasons why Sega has never went back to SA1 or 2.
One of the common beliefs is simply Sega is trying to re-brand Sonic. And the belief and reason being falls on Shadow the hedgehog, and mostly '06. '06 was the worst year in Sonic history.
It's around that time when meme culture was being birthed. '06 was so heavily criticized by critics and audiences it became a running theme to hate Sonic.
Suddenly it became the cool thing to do to trash on Sonic. This had a negative impact on the brand itself. '06 was suppose to in many ways be a new starting point for the next generation of Sonic games. It's not exactly adventure 3, but instead an intended new series of games in that vein.
However, the failure in many ways might've made Sega try to rebrand Sonic and get away from that era. And as you can see from what games afterwards, Sega was doing all it can to pretend '06 didn't exist.
However that was years ago, so maybe it's simply worry? Maybe they don't want the Sonic brand to relive those harsh years where people made fun of the character and the games. All the Shadow game did was make people make fun of Shadow for being edgy.
So maybe it's a combination of things. Maybe Sega relies on that old era because that was best era for their mascot. It might also be due in part to Colors, Generations and Mania being the most well received games since SA1 and 2.
@russell-marlow Thanks, but I have zero idea what all of that has to do with my original comment. I just said calling the game mediocre when the it got decent reviews is not accurate.
You took it a whole new level. "That's not just me, that's the cold cynical truth of it all."
Dude, I wasn't even being emotional when I made that comment. I just disagreed with someone's label. Good grief man.
@axelhander Evil seems like overkill. I wouldn't say Nintendo is inherently evil. It's a corporation like any other.
If anything it's more of fans putting the company on a pedestal as an inherit good in a world full of rot. One shouldn't mistake the company as a heroic figure.
@Hal9001 That's true, but I think what @N8tiveT3ch is getting at is Pokemon over the years slowly transitioned from looking naturally integrated within their worlds, to sometimes out of place and at time uninspired designs.
For example the latest Pokemon designs look like someone was fan of Transformers and wanted to integrate that into Pokemon.
Personally the new legendary Pokemon look forgettable when compared to many of the past Pokemon. But, I accept this just a byproduct of a franchise that has to constantly pump out new designs for the next game.
There's like over 1000 Pokemon now. A percentage of that will fall into questionable design choices.
Now if that wasn't what @N8tiveT3ch was alluding to, I can still see what they mean about some of the designs we've gotten over the years.
Off topic for sure, but many moons ago I recall an artist who was created entire concept arts for a futuristic Zelda game. Seeing this tank reminded me of his work suddenly.
@larryisaman I suppose someone convinced Sony, Zelda has the potential to be the next Lord of the Rings. Too bad everyone they've selected for the project isn't the best in industry.
@InnerSound Funny enough, Miyamoto doesn't hate the film with passion like his fans does. Dudes pretty neutral on the whole thing.
@sanderev See, this where is fans confuse me. I said it's aimed at young children and people throw a fit about it. Anyways, I don't think we should keep using the 90's film as an excuse to say "It's better than nothing". Standards have changed alot since then.
A movie aimed at kids doesn't mean it needs to treat kids as if all they know are loud sounds and pretty colors. Pixar makes movies for kids, but at the same time adds layers and depth. It's why even as a kid, some things you didn't understand then, you appreciate more as you get older.
Dreamworks does the same to some extent and Focus Features, which were behind films like Caroline and Kubo and the two strings did too. Kubo receiving critical acclaim.
@Dark_Isatari It's not a book, a movie, or a painting. It's videogames, they get updated with patches that add and remove things everyday. Tweaking is standard practice.
@Dr_Lugae Keyword being SOME. Really how much sales is Nintendo going to get out of a 1993 game? They've gotten their money's worth back then, still get a few bucks here and there now, and even more thanks to the remake.
You make sound way worse than it is. The amount of people who will download this game is a drop in the bucket compared to the users who already have/will purchase the Nintendo Switch Online pass on a daily basis. Really, it's not going to do anything to Nintendo.
You can argue legalities, but lets not start pretending a 1993 game being reversed engineered is suddenly going to cost Nintendo billions due to everyone on earth choosing the pc version of a 1993 game that released in 1993.
Did I mention it released in 1993?
Really mate. For everyone 1 person who downloads this pc game, 100 more will buy a NSO pass and play it there. It's really not that terrifying.
@FatBeverly I enjoy how you are so absolutely sure of yourself there. We don't how a game with Zelda alone would fare, because well...there is none.
There all kinds of genres, and stories that can be told. I'm amazed you are 100% confident in yourself nothing can be done with the character.
This may shock you, but there are plenty of successful spinoffs from gaming...all the way to movies and beyond.
Until a Zelda game is presented and judged accordingly upon release, the only thing you, and others who are sure of yourself that it's a bad idea can is speculate.
@DennisReynolds Yes, which is why I said set within the same universe. More specifically Rocksteady's Arkham. Deadshot and Harley are the same characters from the Arkham games. in Deadshot's case the "real" Deadshot.

@DanijoEX-the-Pierrot Not really. Many of the Zelda games just copy an earlier art style of a previous game.

Wind Waker and Botw are both Cel shaded.
Echoes is just riffing off the LA art style.
It would be very hard to give every game entry a unique artstyle.

@larryisaman I suppose someone convinced Sony, Zelda has the potential to be the next Lord of the Rings. Too bad everyone they've selected for the project isn't the best in industry.
Re: Nintendo Releases Free Super Mario Bros. Movie 'Strategy Guide' (Japan)
Re: Sea Of Stars Developer Sabotage Replacing 'The Completionist' NPC
@Dark_Isatari It's not a book, a movie, or a painting. It's videogames, they get updated with patches that add and remove things everyday. Tweaking is standard practice.
History gets re-written every week.
Re: Sea Of Stars Developer Sabotage Replacing 'The Completionist' NPC
@Lightsiyd I don't condone harassment, but I also don't jive with the idea of letting something slide because "It might affect mah mental health."
Here's a lesson: Dont' run a fraudulent charity. It's that easy.
It's telling in this day and age when have more sympathy for the villain who created the problem vs the innocent people who were suckered in.
Re: Fan-Made 'Link's Awakening DX HD' Port Taken Down By Nintendo
Re: Soapbox: This Year, The Game Awards Failed The Industry
@TruthisRare Isn't Hogwarts already woke? or Im misunderstanding how the anti-woke crowd judges wokeness?
Re: Eiji Aonuma Comments On The Possibility Of A Playable Zelda In The Future
@FatBeverly I enjoy how you are so absolutely sure of yourself there. We don't how a game with Zelda alone would fare, because well...there is none.
There all kinds of genres, and stories that can be told. I'm amazed you are 100% confident in yourself nothing can be done with the character.
This may shock you, but there are plenty of successful spinoffs from gaming...all the way to movies and beyond.
Until a Zelda game is presented and judged accordingly upon release, the only thing you, and others who are sure of yourself that it's a bad idea can is speculate.
Re: Random: The Game Awards Urged Eiji Aonuma To 'Wrap Up' Zelda Acceptance Speech
@Zidentia Honestly I wasn't rooting for either game to win GOTY. I think both are good, but not once in a generations defining games.
Re: Video: Batman Arkham Trilogy Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison
@Debbiee NIce. I don't hate Batman games. I think they are well done. Just I would like to explore the gigantic universe of DC outside of Batman.
Martian Manhunter
Green Lantern
Aquaman
In Wonder Woman's case, I would enjoy exploring her part of the world. It would be nice to see something outside of Gotham.
Re: Video: Batman Arkham Trilogy Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison
@DennisReynolds Yes, which is why I said set within the same universe. More specifically Rocksteady's Arkham. Deadshot and Harley are the same characters from the Arkham games. in Deadshot's case the "real" Deadshot.
