@wiiware Well I'm from America and unless laws have changed in the past decade, I don't recall one being passed forbidding women from depicted as weak and helpless. Sounds more like media reflecting culture.
I mean honestly, who wants be depicted as weak and helpless all the time? That's not a fun story. That's a story of someone who can't do crap unless someone does it for them.
As far as the movie goes, Mario is a fool. It makes sense in this context because he's a stranger in a strange world. Let's look at from a real life perspective. If you got warped into a world of talking mushrooms your sense of understanding and logic would go out the window. You would in some ways be a bumbling fool trying to make find your place.
@RareFan I'm just going to toss this out here, but the reason why I liked Mania because it's a simple story and a throwback to the best years.
Sonic imo just doesn't mesh with all the melodrama and dark plots. I miss the days when he was a laid back blue hedgehog who rescued captured animals.
The stories are just edgy and bad. Characters like Shadow ruined the franchise imo. It takes me out of experience because im watching a bunch of anthropomorphic animals being overly dramatic and serious.
All I want is that simplicity back. Ever since SA2 all fans wanted were more and more super serious stories. That peaked in '06 with the creepy kiss scene. And went further down the drain with Edgy The Hedy spin-off game.
I blame SA2 for bringing that unnecessary dark tone to the franchise. Now sonic exists in this weird limbo tones trying to balance the two in attempt to please everyone.
That's my issue with Frontiers. It's trying to be a Breath of the Wild clone with it's depressing story rather than just being a fun open world Sonic game with a simple plot.
@LeJuiceCup No offense but I trust fan reviews less than I do reviewers. They are more likely to be bias to a product. Positive review bombing is annoying.
The idea that fans are more likely to be honest vs critics simply because they know a franchise is funny. I have seen more often than not fans are more than happy to play the role of salesman if it means helping a company sell more units.
@Ryu_Niiyama Where exactly is the disrespect though. Asking for a bit of a challenge is no one way any disrespect. You can be critical while still respecting a choice.
I just don't get why this review is getting so much flak. All they asked for is a bit more challenge, and most here have taken that as meaning "Kirby Dark Souls 2.0"
@Jackpaza0508 What's there to ruin really? Bowser wants to rule the world and Mario saves the day. It's illumination at the end of day. Nothing has ever been spectacular about their films.
Long lines, big crowds, cheap food, kids screaming while rubbing germs everywhere, people leaving the restroom without washing their hands. Sounds like a ear piercing, headache inducing, germtastic adventure!
@Korsica_Is_Best_Girl Why did you have to point out they're the minority? Does that somehow invalidate someones opinion? The game received a divisive reception. It's not like it came out the gate swinging with nothing but 9's and 10's. There even hardcore Sonic fans who think the game sucks.
@kkslider5552000 Nintendolife actually praised Kingdom Hearts story. Yeah Kingdom's Heart. A game that legit started out simple, but takes nonsensical convolution to a new level.
@DMH Not a fan of Yuri. I dislike that he's basically just right all the time and rarely are his views challenged and proven wrong. He barely grows as a character.
@iLikeUrAttitude Sorry, but the argument is it's Nintendo's IP therefore you aren't allowed to feel anything for all the work you did. Even though Prime wouldn't have existed without the OG's teams ideas and hard work but eh.
@Poodlestargenerica There is a gem hidden somewhere, but it's a game that's very hard to recommend to anyone, except a very specific niche of people.
For every pro there is a con, and as such it's hard to give it a super positive thumbs up. Not even midway into the game the pacing just...stops. One could be forgiven if they lost track of what going on anymore.
To be fair it's not just an Eastward problem. Many games just sometimes have too much dialogue that should have been cut in the editing room.
@CaptChaos It doesn't help the protagonist is too silent. Having all the secondary cast do the talking doesn't help either. John, barely reacts to all the events around him.
@dazzleshell I could afford Nintnedo's entire overpriced library if I wanted to, but I don't. I wait for a sale or get it second hand. I don't support the price increase. Especially in this day and age where more and more companies are releasing buggy, half finished games.
It's not just 70$ anymore, The DLC included increases that price upwards to nearly hundreds.
It's principle. You use movies as example, but a 2 hour movie cost 10$. Good or bad it's just 10$ gone, and in some places 10$ is a luxury. 70$ for a bad experience, means I'm screwed out of 70$.
Now far all I know and who I am kidding here, ToFK is going to be another 10/10 game. However, like BOTW I can wait as long as it takes for a sale.
@Twilite9 Yeah, but that doesn't mean they have to be a slave to their own creation. They have been doing the same gig for 27 years. Constantly having to add more and more insane amount of creatures for each new release. Not to mention new content and ideas.
That is enough to burnout any dev. When Pokemon really took off, they were releasing 3 titles every 1-2 years.
@Serpenterror Have to agree with you there. Stealth alone is already a niche genre and Golum while a interesting character, is not that interesting enough to carry an entire game.
I could be wrong, and it might be good, but from my pov it seems it has more going against it than for it.
@CharlieGirl Actually there is. In attempt to correct an age old criticism, studios are overcorrecting the problem.
People have complained, and rightly so, about the stereotype of women in media. Studios however, have responded by swinging the pendulum so hard in the opposite direction; They've created a new, and equally bad stereotype.
Something is wrong when you have to constantly announce your female leads traits vs anything else that should define them as a character.
@Korgon Nintendo carved out their sustainable part of the market and is sticking with it. There is no way Sony can compete this late in the game with Nintendo. While the other big two focused on hardcore gamers, Nintendo focused on the family market and is dominated there.
Sony doesn't have too many big IP's these days and needs COD.
@Itachi2099 How would it die though? If anything it will just give them an extra market for revenue. PC gaming are par with console games in terms of sales. It would actually benefit the company.
@KalamStrifeVII Do people not know the definition of hate anymore? I'm serious because hate is a very strong word.
There's a huge difference between dislike and hatred. Not liking a song is not the same has hating the person who made it.
By that logic, every song you aren't a fan of, you must hate the artist who wrote it. People can dislike a song, and by extension dislike Ed Sheeren, however none of that means they genuinely hate the guy.
@LexKitteh I'm fine with voice changes honestly. Can't have someone doing the same thing forever. Plus it gives new people a chance to flex their skills and improve their resume.
@LikelySatan Actually that could've still happened regardless if BOTW existed or not. Open world and miniatures dungeons is not a new concept.
Open world games have been on an upward trend for years, and given that Sonic is no stranger to wide open spaces I.E. Adventure 1 and '06; There's no reason to think that eventually a Sonic open world wouldn't have been made.
Let's say Zelda didn't go open world, and Sonic kept his trend of mediocrity. Given Sega's history of throwing everything at the wall, finding what sticks, then completely abandoning it; Sonic would have eventually arrived at this point some time.
@EffortlessMuppet A question to everyone who seems to have it out for DF. Did anyone actually watch the review in it's entirety? Or are most just listening to what they want to hear?
No offense but it's a TECH review. They are analyzing parts of game along with the hardware it's on. They do this for every system and pc. That is their shtick.
It's not DF's fault Devs are having to make sacrifice just to keep a steady framerate on a piece of hardware that's struggling to keep up; And those sacrifices will just keep rising as games become more demanding.
If people watched the video, He gives more praise than negative. He even says buy it if aren't bother by anything.
Half these comments are just wierd. People should want Nintendo to upgrade their hardware. Stagnation kills anything.
I remember people defending the WII U saying Nintendo doesn't need third party games. Clearly Nintendo disagreed with that hence the Switch and third party support.
I for one want them to upgrade the hardware so we can get some of these awesome games on other systems in the upcoming years.
@CharlieGirl People can agree voice acting is a ***** job, however this lady isn't fighting for better pay, for everyone.
She's hoping by asking people to boycott this game, that will teach platinum a "lesson."
I'm all for fighting to make things better, but this is no more than a personal grudge and vendetta. It's a selfish act, proven by running to social media and trying to make people feel like crap if they don't support her.
Better pay for voice actors is a good cause to fight for. However Hellena's isnt.
@Moviefan2k4 There is such thing as a comedy adventure. Alot of big budget animated films are adventures with comedy bits sprinkled in. I was merely pointing out the comedy bit I've seen so far fell flat, not that the movie is 100% a comedy.
@CazSonOfCaz The valiant hero wearing the finest armor in all of the land, wielding the blade of legends, charged into battle against his mighty foe, riding his custom built Harley-Davidson.
@EarthboundBenjy I feel ya. Just call it an RPG. Everything under the sun is inspired by something, yet we don't look at games like Zelda, and say "Medieval fantasy inspired adventure."
Meh, the first games story was lackluster. Sure you can argue story is not the point of Zelda "LMAO, who plays Zelda for story?" But, all that buildup, and hints of an epic tale only to have it flung far in the background to where one could forget it's existence was a letdown.

Still not 100% sold. If Sega didn't build a reputation of average mediocre Sonic games through the years, I would be all for this. We'll see if this finally is a Sonic game worth every penny.
