I don't mind these changes, but I wish they'd put in a "classic mode" of sorts to give the players the option of playing it exactly like it was on Wii U. Well, as much as they can anyway. The Wii U has its own screen that can show different stuff from what's on the TV.
This game reminded me a lot of Monster World IV when I played it. I hope they fix the issue that prevents you from unlocking all your monsters' powers if you didn't feed them all the right items the first time. I hope they also release it on 3DS as promised but that's extremely unlikely to happen.
I wish Hamster would install an option for Player 1 to play as Player 2 (and vice versa) in games like this where the character depends on the player. Nintendo should do that too for the NES and SNES apps.
I don't think I have this on Wii and I doubt it will work on 3DS. Also, some douchebag stole my SNES copy. I guess I'll have to use less legal means to try this out.
I didn't see anything in the review about breaking weapons, so unless it's in there but you neglected to mention it, that sounds like a point over Breath of the Wild.
I bet it's just an error post. I would like to see some Rare games on Switch (and Wii U because I don't want owners of that system to feel left out) though, especially Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero because they were originally supposed to be on Nintendo systems anyway. I still think Rare Replay would sell far better on a Nintendo system than a Microsoft one.
@doctorhino That's interesting. I don't think I've ever heard anyone compare Zelda 2 to a Mario game before.
Personally, I think a side-scrolling Zelda game could be done effectively, but because of Zelda 2's questionable reputation and the downright dismal reputation of the CDi Zelda games (two of which were side-scrollers), I doubt we'll be seeing another "2D" game in the near future so I guess you have nothing to worry about.
@doctorhino I didn't think Zelda 2 was trash, but it definitely could have been done better. Having to go through that maze in the overworld was a nightmare.
I could definitely see a successful remake of Sonic Spinball, especially since most modern controllers now have triggers and shoulder buttons. I'd even settle for an enhanced port with better frame rate, but HD graphics with more stages and the ability to play as other characters would make a great new edition in my book.
I'm sorta split on Super Mario Land. If there's an option to switch between Mario's voice and some other sound effects, I'd be all on board, but that's not gonna happen. While Mario's voice (first introduced in Mario's Game Gallery or Mario Teaches Typing) doesn't completely ruin the experience for me, it takes away some of my enjoyment.
I prefer the European box because the athlete doesn't look like a mannequin. The Japanese version is okay, but there's no background.
The only thing I really don't like about the European one is the "Only for Nintendo 64" tag obstructing part of the board. I also not crazy about the black borders, but they don't really bother me and the extra information goes there. Since the black borders are there anyway, it seems like the exclusivity logo could have been put there without covering any of the artwork.
Let's see. With Outfoxies, Brawlhalla, Brawlout, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, the five Super Smash Bros. games, that Xbox 360 game I can't remember the name of, and now this, that makes, what, 10 games in this sub-genre?
@Retro_Player_77 @Dakotastomp
Mighty Fight Federation, Fraymakers, and Slap City make 13.
Rivals of Aether makes 14.
I already have this on PS3 so I doubt I'll buy the Switch version on day 1, especially if it's $30 or $40. I'd still like the option to play this on the go though.
I wonder if SEGA got any royalties for what looks like the same exact gameplay. Just the side-scrolling stages could make it about as different as Rolling Thunder, but the bonus stages bring it much closer to being a copycat.
The face on the final boss is a dead ringer for Freddie Mercury while the body looks like it belongs to Wolfgang Krauser from Fatal Fury. That reminds me of Dan from Street Fighter who has Ryo Sakazaki's body and Robert Garcia's head.
This game certainly looks interesting, but I hope they add some more frames of animation to make it look less jerky.
@kingv84 I get annoyed just seeing them in the feed whether I click on them or not. There are filter tabs, but none of them cover all things Nintendo-related. I'm tired of arguing about this. If you don't like seeing my posts, just put me on your ignore list like I'm about to do with you.
Now might be a good time to add external HDD and SDD compatibility, or at least the option to move back game files up. They're tied to the system so theft shouldn't be an issue.
@kingv84 I don't care. There's way too much "random" crap on this site, an annoying trend seemingly started by Liam Doolan and Damien McFerran. If this wasn't the most comprehensive Nintendo news site, I'd never even come here anymore. The way things are going, it probably won't be for long. If they wanna put these articles here, fine, but sometimes I feel compelled to give them crap for it.
Granted, NintendoLife is not nearly as bad as NintendoSmash.
Even if they thought the Fatal Frame games released for Wii could sell well in the West (although apparently the Crimson Butterfly remake was good enough for Europe) it might be difficult to please everyone, especially if anything really objectionable had to be removed like the lingerie items in Fatal Frame IV. There would be those demanding their removal while others would object to them being removed because of censorship.
This reminds me of some game the Happy Video Game Nerd (from Stop Skeletons From Fighting) reviewed. I don't remember what it was but I think it has Metal in the title.
@StevenG It's kind of a shame that Nintendo doesn't seem to be much into sound settings (with a few exceptions). Personally, I like the sound effects and music in the Mario games but I really don't like Mario's voice.
I couldn't remap the buttons in the Japanese playable demos for Namco Museum Archives, which is weird because M2 is usually pretty good about stuff like that. Can they be remapped in the full games?
As corny as it is, I voted for the European box art because I find it more visually appealing despite that annoying yellow spiky splat obscuring some of the art. The American art has its own appeal with the in-your-face angry thug whose teeth blend in with his spit, but it just doesn't really do it for me.
I guess the series isn't dead after all. 😐 I really shouldn't be upset about this since I don't have to play any of these games. I guess hearing announcements of new games reminds me of the cartoon which I thought was utterly ridiculous and overly melodramatic.
I remember playing DBZSB2 on my SNES when a friend brought it over with an adapter and really enjoying it despite not knowing what the hell was going on. It's a shame companies assumed American gamers had such low opinions for anime style back then. I personally would have been happy to play Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden 2 and the Sailor Moon games out here in America in English. At least America got a few anime-style games like Kendo Rage, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle, Pocky & Rocky, Extra Innings, and some of Valis games during the 16-bit era so that's something.
If you can't afford a trip to Japan, I guess paying extra for something like this from a reseller isn't so bad. I just hope no greedy jerks are able to buy all of the stock in one trip and then sell them for unreasonably jacked up prices even to the locals.
At this point, I don't expect Metroid Prime 4 to make it to the Switch, which means Nintendo should never have announced it in the first place. It's arrogant to assume everyone who wants it will buy Nintendo's next console.
I'll try it out of curiosity, then probably delete it when I find out there are no dub options. After that, I'll likely argue with the lot of you over the point of having dubs.
