Update [Wed 30th Dec, 2020 10:00 GMT]: Nintendo has updated the release schedule on its Japanese website and sure enough it was a mistake. Sorry folks!
"Banjo-Kazooie's Adventure" and "Blast Dozer" have been posted as Wii U software delivered on December 30, 2020, but they will not be delivered. We apologize for the correction. (2020.12.30)
Original article [Wed 30th Dec, 2020 05:45 GMT]: It's nearly the end of the year and to go out with a bang, Nintendo is listing whatever games it wants on its official website...
As spotted earlier today by the Twitter account @wight90297332, Nintendo's Japanese release schedule for December features the N64 titles Banjo-Kazooie and Blast Corps for the Wii U Virtual Console. Yep, apparently, they are due out today...?
As noted in Gematsu's tweet above, both links are unavailable. If you do click them, it'll bring up a message explaining the page has either been deleted, modified, or is currently available. In saying this, you can still see the listings on the main release schedule page - with Microsoft Japan down as the publisher.

We assume this is a major blunder on Nintendo's end. Even so, it's got us wondering why these two Rare games - a company now owned by Microsoft - are listed when neither game got a Virtual Console release in the first place.
If we hear anything else, we'll update this post. In the meantime, tell us what you make of all this in the comments.

Wow, two games that would have sold very well on the VC!
So help me if these games don’t come to either NSO or via some sort of Rare Replay.
If they actually somehow release, I'm definitely buying them, lol.
"Hey Kazooie, I think we're on the wrong Nintendo console."
"What makes you think that, the Miiverse icon or the Pushmo World"
"Well..."
@OdnetninAges Same. The more support we show for Rare IPs coming back to Nintendo, the better.
I mean is there zero chance this is true? Sounds like a very specific and intentional blunder.
Plus it always struck me odd that Microsoft and Nintendo would go through the trouble of recreating Banjo and Kazooie from the ground up just for Smash. Why not release their games on Nintendo platforms as well? Seems like a lot of work just to let the characters die again
Oh man, I would absolutely by those if they were realesed. thankfully I recently set up my wii u so I could finally play the metroid prime trilogy. The first game was better than I remember and just started echoes.
If this turns out to be true but doesn't end up coming to the Switch, so help me, Nintendo.
@Toy_Link I miss Miiverse. It was terrible but I loved it.
@nessisonett
Y can't banjo kazoo walk up slope?
This is very strange news, but I ain't complaining.
Oh man, this must be the Mandela Effect from 2012 colliding with a thin layer of the multiverse plane in an effort to end 2020 properly and set us back on the right timeline.
Both games are incredible and still hold up to todays standards.
It seems to be good to be true so I'm not getting my hopes up.
Maybe someday I'll buy an X-box console that can at least play Rare Replay, it's the only game(s) on X-Box I care about
For now, I'll patiently wait if anything happens...
I'd love to see Banjo-Kazooie on Switch, and hell, maybe even Wii U. I have it on N64, but who wants to set that up again.

This seems like an odd move for Microsoft to go "hey, Nintendo, wanna have some retro N64 games on the Wii U and not Switch?" and Nintendo going "yeah sure, that system that sold poorly and we don't really support. Why not"
Hope it's a mistake. Or a Switch version is coming also but not mentioned.
I mean people who still have Wii U’s would buy both. It has to cost next to nothing to make this happen.
Just give us Rare Replay Microsoft.
Maybe this means they will have N64 games on the switch.
But when will they release on N64?
I bet it's just an error post. I would like to see some Rare games on Switch (and Wii U because I don't want owners of that system to feel left out) though, especially Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero because they were originally supposed to be on Nintendo systems anyway. I still think Rare Replay would sell far better on a Nintendo system than a Microsoft one.
Time to get moving!
Time
Time
Time
Time to get moving!
Not only do I believe this is real... not only do I believe we are getting NA releases... but I believe we are getting Banjo as new DLC in Smash 4.
April Fool's came early at Nintendo Co, Ltd
This has made Wii U trend on Twitter, that's great news... Long live the Wii U.
Well, there was dummied-out Spirit data in Ultimate for Blast Corps and Jet Force Gemini well before Banjo-Kazooie joined the roster, so it's not like this doesn't have precedent...
Well there's something I didn't expect to read at the end of 2020.
Wat
But why??? Literally no one will ever get to play this.
Its Japan only
Now it has this at the top of the schedule ....

Dust off? I play my Wii U all the time, for these I'd just use Rare Replay on Xbox anyway. In terms of the N64 emulator Nintendo use Banjo does work but I don't think Blast Corps did
I kept expecting those to pop up on 3ds at some point as a remaster. I know it was insane to think that, but imagine how great it would've been...
that i bit strange to release Banjo Kazooie and Blast Corps on the Virtual Console of a console that is considered dead, why not release Banjo Kazooie and Blast Corsp, in a remasterd form/remake on Xbox Series X/S Switch or when the N64 arrive in the Switch online?
The 10 Wii U owners must be really happy.
What if the mix up was they're actually COMING TO SWITCH? A weird mistake for sure... Someone had to have made those pages for a reason. N64 coming to Nintendo Switch Online...?
I own them on real N64 carts, and i have them on Xbox One in Rare Replay anyways.
@Aerona I've never played banjo Kazooie on the 64 but I have got it on my rg351p handheld great game...I think this mistake is a way of saying"hey guys look whats coming to the switch" Nintendo likes to play games like that 😊👍🏾
Such a curious mistake to make, hopefully there is fire accompanying that smoke.
@westman98 guess not.
I actually turned my Wii U on for the 1st time in over a year this morning.
I forgot how many VC games I have, along with the Wii VC on SD card.
I had a blast this morning playing IK+ on the C64
@Gerald I would love C64 games to come to the Switch! And Rare Replay.
@GrailUK indeed. I recently purchased a C64 Mini from Amazon for £40.
I never had a C64 growing up (was part of the 8 Bit Master Race - Amstrad CPC 😜)
But some of these C64 games are similar - Currently playing through Spindizzy
@Gerald Download Creatures 2, the game my avatar is from... It's amazing and so graphically impressive for C64! Creatures 1 is good as well but 2 is a bit more unique.
I hate thinking that these might have been fully developed VC releases that just got dropped at the last second.
@AlienX I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. I doubt they were ever coming and this is a weird mistake. Still...seems like there must have been a conversation at some point recently that led to it. Maybe Rare do have some sort of plan for Switch?
They are probably coming to the Switch today and got listed for Wii U by mistake.
hehehehehehehehehehhehehehehhehehehe
Very strange. The Mario collection showed that they have a working N64 emulator for the Switch, so maybe these will be released for the Switch some time in the future?
@Gdean76 I hope so, this is pretty suspicious for an accident.
Would have liked the Rare games early in Switch's life. By the time they come out, another 5 years will pass, and the games will have aged even worse, and I'll have lost interest. Pessimistic view, but that seems to be the pattern since VC died.
Seems to me Microsoft is behind the lack of Rare games, and Disney. Microsoft aquired the studio that made disneyland adventure, I believe.
Maybe I'm over-analysing this, but this statement might mean there were actual plans to release it, which means there might be zero obstacles left to release it in ANOTHER way for a BROADER audience, this in itself being the obstacle that cancelled the Wii U release.
I may have forgotten some steps, but the result is the same: Half Life 3 confirmed as a Switch exclusive, physical, with gyro aiming, and a Cortez from Timesplitters cameo teasing the upcoming Timesplitters 4 with of course more content than ever and ZERO of it being paid DLC.
What?
Makes me wonder if Nintendo and Microsoft have completely had a partnership with Microsoft or were considering a Microsoft partnership even before the Wii U!
I didn't expect the games to actually be available. But what I'm most curious about is, how did this happen? These games never saw VC releases before, so how did they even get listed? Certainly gets ya curious about what all is happening behind the scenes.
Probably a stupid intern's job. He would heard about a negotiation to put these games on NSO in a near future (April/21, with the New N64 app?) and make a mass. I want all N64's Rare games on NSO, specially Get Force Gemini, but if Rare legacy games come to Switch it seems like they will come through Rare Replay or Game Pass (but I think Nintendo will never allowed GP in MS terms)
those teases.....
Big deal. I got both of those games on the N64. Blast Corps was cheap, and my mom got me Banjo-Kazooie for Christmas.
How do people not see this as an error?
Would love to see the duo's first game come to my favorite hybrid in 2021!
My heart almost stopped.
Honestly, my main reason for buying an Xbox Series X was so I could play Rare Replay again. I sold my original Xbox One several years back, with the silly hope that Microsoft would port more XBO games to PC.
No need to dust off my WiiU, it's still warm from playing Skyward Sword last night.
@noutBr My GF's got an Xbone, and I suddenly remembered about Rare Replay, and picked it up on the cheap a few weeks ago. It's nice, but the menu loading times are awful, and some of the games are really hard to play with an Xbone gamepad.
@AndyC_MK84 Never say never, they did release DKC for GBC and GBA after MS bought Rare. And Diddy Kong Racing for DS.
Dang. I could go for some blast corps!
Guh-huh this makes absolutely no sense
Wait, people actually took this at face value? There's no way Nintendo would put Banjo-Kazooie on an old dead system — 'specially when it's their worst-selling home console to date, and they have a newer system that's still selling well, which they can port the game to.
I think they did that on purpose to get our attention and decide whether to re-release these games based on our feedback.
@AndyC_MK84 Yeah, I was just thinking of ports/VC. Especially games like DKC/DK64, where half of the IP is Nintendo's. But I know they did make a few new games for Nintendo after MS bought them.
Can't comment on Rare's new stuff though, the newest game I've played by them was Conker's Bad Fur Day I've heard good things about Sea of Thieves, though.
I'm surprised this wasn't released earlier, since the Wii U was discontinued a few years ago.
Drip feeding the VC games is partially part of the reason how Ninty failed the Wii U in the first place..
First year of Wii U's life Nintendo released 3,2,1 or 0 Nes VC games one day a week and it went on for the first 12 months of WiiU's life then SNES games was drip fed to Nintendo eshop..
More VC games on the New 3DS than the Wii U eshop...
Ninty supported the tired old 3DS over the WiiU which is stupid coz imagine Sony supporting PSVita over PS4 coz that right there is what Ninty did with their handheld and home HD console..
Now though Ninty support one device known as the Nintendo Switch and it is lacking in eshop exclusive games made by the gamers for the gamers
Rare Replay (especially Blast Corps) was one of the reasons that I originally bought an Xbox One. If it came to the Wii U or the Switch then I'd buy it again in an instant.
Nintendo should work with Rare again just in the good old days
