This year marks The Legend of Zelda's 35th anniversary. Much like Super Mario's celebrations, Nintendo could potentially revive any game in the series.
With this in mind, YouTuber SnazzyAI - the same individual who showed off Animal Crossing: New Horizons running at 4K, 60FPS - has released a new video, this time showing off what the 3DS title, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D could look like if it was somehow ported to the Nintendo Switch.
To do this, they took the "best trailer" of the 3DS game - resulting in 1080p, 60FPS.
"I took the best trailer I could find for it and actually downscaled it from 1080P (happens often where publishers will post it in higher quality than the video actually is) to 480P. Then AI upscaled it to 1080P from that 480P. Then AI interpolated it to 60FPS, as I think a higher frame rate is so needed if it were to come to the Switch."
While SnazzyAI would also welcome a full-on Switch remaster, they think most fans would settle for the 3DS version. And it would be rather fitting, considering the Switch is part portable.
Does this trailer make you want to return to this timeless classic? Would you like to see Ocarina of Time made available on the Switch at some stage? Let us know in the comments.

They would have the change the camera angle to be further since it was positioned for a small screen
I'm not saying OoT on Switch needs to be as beautiful as BOTW (that would be amazing and it wouldn't be that hard) but they need to at least go beyond just upscaling and bumping the frame rate especially if they want to charge more than $30.
I would personally be interested but the textures and 3D models should be taken up a bit more above the 3DS version. There should be something noteworthy to compensate for the loss of the amazing second screen implementation on the 3DS. Also, Majora's Mask needs to be bundled with the game and include the same visual improvements. If they want to go thematic as an anniversary bundle, include Twilight Princess HD and make it a trilogy cartridge.
Yikes. What's with all of the scaling artefacts? It looks like they have taken lower quality footage and merely upscaled it, at least in parts. Hardly indicative of what a true HD rendering of the game would look like.
But if Nintendo were to issue barebones 3DS ports rendered at 1080p resolution, then most games should look fine. Mario Kart 7 and Wii both look great when rendered in HD. Even Mario Kart DS's visuals hold up in spite of the low resolution textures. Speaking of which, all in favour of Mario Kart All Stars?
This looks awesome and all but let's be real...if Nintendo re-releases it, its literally gonna be the 3DS game slapped on a Switch cart for $60 and thats it because that's how Nintendo do.
Probably the greatest game ever. I’d play it again even if it looked like rubbish, although I’d moan about it. Still run randomizer on it every few months, it’s great fun even if I’m a bit slow.
There's so many technical reasons why this looks so bad...it's almost impressive.
Ocarina of Time deserves a proper HD remake, it's one of the best game ever made
Never got to play this so would love to experience it on the switch
I just hope that beyond all else, they don’t give us the N64 versions upscaled
Since the trailer is of rather poor quality where the visuals are concerned, here's an actual HD rendered playthrough of Ocarina of Time 3D for anyone actually interested in how the game could look on Switch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7qQckdFUY8&list=PLkBK2hrDcB5uN8x-McG7Wh9y2UCymjwB5&index=3
A Switch remaster should in fact blow this away. I'm sure we'd get reworked textures, upped polygon counts, more details in the environments, etc. Something akin to what we saw with Twilight Princess HD on the Wii U compared to merely rendering the GameCube/Wii game in high-definition via the Dolphin emulator.
I'd want a remake. Not to the extent of the FF7 remake, but something that isn't just an upscale, but has new models, animations, and especially story scenes. Really make it feel like a more modern game. That'd be really cool.
I’ve played OOT and majoras mask on the 3DS. And I gotta say Majoras Mask is the better game for me. It eclipses OOT in every way. Sort of like how Perfect Dark outdid Goldeneye 007.
Nope. The Switch already has enough overpriced ports. Needs some new games.
Wow. I probably haven’t played OOT since the GameCube era (I had the disk with the master quest). So many good memories come back to me watching that video. Yeah, even if Nintendo gives it the Mario 3D All Stars treatment and skimps on the extras, I’m happily dropping $60 because I’m a sucker for nostalgia.
Honestly, if they were to re-release this game, they'd probably have to remake it. It looks fine for a 3DS game, but I feel like upscaling the resolution, like this trailer did, would just make it feel dated.
@Euler ya true. There’s already complete ports on the generation before it.
@VoidofLight It wouldn't be upscaled. Much like Super Mario 3D All-Stars, it would be rendered in HD.
They're not the same thing.
I'd be more open to this is Samus didn't get snubbed every five years.
I'm a purist. I need those N64 graphics when playing OoT and MM. It just feels wrong otherwise.
More like 4:3 ratio, 720p and 30fps for $60usd 🤣
Nothing would make me happier than seeing Ocarina of Time HD, Majora's Mask HD, Skyward Sword HD, Wind Waker HD, and Twilight Princess HD all on one cart. A big chunk of the Zelda timeline in one package.
But since that will never happen, I'd be just as happy to see those five games in three separate but similar releases. Skyward Sword HD on one cart (with traditional controls), the 3DS games on another cart, and the Wii U HD releases on the last cart.
@Atariboy I still rather the game to be remade, since the textures and models just look dated at this point, due to being made for the 3DS. Same with the lighting and particle effects.
Nintendo’s release strategy and Nintendo’s back catalogue are basically in two different galaxies. It’s a bonafide miracle anything happens.
gimme gimme gimme, OoT and Majoras Mask on one cart! That would fill me with joy!!!
I feel like they need more that a upscale version. We already got that. If they rerelease OOT, they need to do a full remake. Otherwise I’ll just play on the 3ds
They ported mario 64 to switch and it doesn't even have full screen on handheld mode. Do you really think they're gonna do this?
@badmotorfinger74 That OoT disc included with Wind Waker was how I first played it. Such brilliant value for money.
As much as I love those remakes, double-dipping is out of question.
I so badly want a complete graphical remake of this game. Sony seem more willing to do this with their ip’s
This and Majora’s Mask in HD with updated graphics not increased resolution and slightly improved textures. Of all the games to that to they chose Wind Waker. Are you kidding
Hey Nintendo do you fancy earning a few million quid? Zelda 3D All Stars (OOT, MM, TP) please and Metroid Prime Trilogy while you're at it. As you're clearly working on Switch Pro titles and only releasing ports atm these will tide us over nicely until the Pro arrives!
@meeto_1 Not a Sony IP, but I'd pick the original Crash games over the remakes any day, they're simply not as fun to play due to messed up physics, hitboxes and overall gameplay. I'm fine with complete overhauls as long as they keep the original games available...
No need for that. Just get yourself a 3DS or 2DS and enjoy the game. Mostly to why I still have my new 3DS XL please don’t make me sell it. Honestly of all the remakes they should release with upgrade graphics and we’re suggesting one that has been already enhanced. Where do we find the time for all the Zelda games already being released for the switch? We got 2 hyrule warriors, 2 breath of the wild coming up, remake to links awakening, and what’s on the nes/snes rerelease. Meanwhile we got no Metroid, F-zero, earthbound, donkey Kong (that’s not a rerelease), or a punch out game made for the switch. Please guys let’s focus on one thing at a time that’s due for re or rerelease that we haven’t seen in quite some time.
I'm honestly more interested in playing Twilight Princess, Windwaker and Skyward Sword.
Sorry, but Ocarina of Time is overrated and nostalgia plays a big part in this. It was fine at the time but was surpassed by many games long time ago.
OOT is way too overrated. If they put it on Switch, it DESPERATELY needs an overhaul, not just slight graphical tweaks. It has not aged gracefully! The combat system has been perfected by many, many other games, and the exploration is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Some of the dungeons hold up well, the puzzle solving is decent. But if they released it AS IS on the Switch, that would be a HUGE missed opportunity.
They barely got away with that with Mario 64, but that game has MUCH stronger gameplay than OOT, so it's slightly forgiveable.
If this game wants the NINJA APPROVED sticker, it's gonna have to get an overhaul, sorry kids this one's a dud.
If Ocarina of Time is ever ported to Switch, it will probably be part of some Zelda 35th anniversary collection and therefore won't see many - if any - graphical or performance enhancements. Think Mario 64 from Mario 3D All-Stars.
I just have fore words, Nintendo make it happen.
Day One for me on Switch, just like 3DS. Although, I would prefer a bundle with Majora's Mask.
Unfortunately, 3D Zelda just isn't the same for me, after Breath of the Wild. The freedom of exploration is so beyond comparison that it just feels odd to play any other 3D Zelda game.
How about The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past, or A Link Between Worlds remake/remaster?
What Nintendo really needs to do is keep their eyes on the Unreal Engine OOT port by CryZENx. (Which they have been) I've been playing it on PC and it is beautiful and a true labor of love.
For anyone who has not seen, just look up CryZENx on YouTube. His work is brilliant and the game is worth checking out on Unreal if you have a PC!
I'd love proper remakes and all, but I'd definitely buy an Ocarina, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword compilation release.
Nintendo: best I can do is 720p and 30 FPS
Small detail that really bothered me about the N64 Zelda's is how bland the night sky looked.
3DS made them look amazing, that would be my main request.
Other than that, the games are perfect.
@invictus4000 People said that about the Mario collection before they revealed it... when it turned out that Nintendo wasn’t charging for each game, everyone instead criticised it for other things
@BloodNinja
No it isn't overrated. At all.
Your opinion sucks.
I would rather play on 3ds, with a second screen and stereoscopic 3D. If it does arrive on switch, it would need to be part of a bundle with more appropriate games, like gamecube or Wii games.
@TheFullAndy I want the game to be better, why does that suck? It's been outdone by the past 10-20 years of gaming, it really would benefit from QOL updates, engine updates, better movement, better camera, less LONG empty spaces...
There was a lot it did right for it's time. I think it's now time for something more up to par with modern standards.
IT'S 2021 AND WE NEED A BETTER OOT NINJA APPROVED
@BloodNinja
Them's the breaks!
Edit: I see you edited your post completely.....huh.
The game is 20 odd years old and when one looks at the game one looks at it from the perspective of when it was made and it is unfair to criticise it for lacking things that are in modern games that were not possible in 98. In fact those modern games are better because of the strides made in games as iconic as OOT.
I don't take issue with wanting improvements to the game I take issue with you saying it is overrated. It most certainly is not.
One of the best of all time for all time.
That 4K Animal Crossing trailer was fine, because the source footage was already 1080p.
This 1080p OoT trailer is not fine, because the source footage was based on 240p gameplay.
As others have pointed out, there's already emulated footage of the game running in proper HD.
The 3DS version is pretty good already, I'm fine with that. If they want to make another version of it, it should be a REAL remake, with plenty of changes. But I don't think it should be now, it's too soon. Maybe in 5-7 years, for the next gen.
For now, a remake for Skyward Sword is much more urgent. That, Zelda BotW 2 and a brand new 2D Zelda should happen earlier. And bring on those WiiU remakes already, damn it!
@andyg1412 I'd take away MM from there (it's a spin off) and add WW.
If they put in the 35th collection an HD version of OoT 3D, and the WiiU remakes of the other two (WW and TP) for 60-70€, I'd buy it DAY ONE.
And later on, a Skyward Sword remake, please.
What's with all this PC "they" nonsense! Its obviously a bloke doing this.
I would be fine if they just ported the 3DS version as-is to the Switch, with the necessary changes to make it a single-screen experience like the N64 original.
The models in the 3DS version are already pretty good quality and look good when rendered in high resolution. They would need to provide higher resolution textures for the UI which they do likely have somewhere, if not they could look into ESRGAN.
It helps a bunch that the fixed-view scenes in OoT3D were actually rendered in-engine rather than pre-rendered too.
@TheLightSpirit
We all are, well I hope we are, but at least I am not speaking in third person and "approving" everything.
@nessisonett i agree, will always be my most memorable game ever. I would love dor nintendo to bring it to the switch even if it was just upscaled. Adding Master quest like the gamecube got would be great as well.
@TheLightSpirit
So they can say it is overrated but no one is allowed to challenge them on that? Why?
I just said their opinion sucks, which in my opinion it does. Don't know why you are taking it so thick, well actually I do now as apparently you agree with them so you just want to shout down any opposing views. How sad.
I'm about 40% through OoT I'm Wii U to refamilarise myself with the game and controls before I tackle Majora's mas for the first time.
If I could play on Switch rather than Wii U I'd really appreciate it.
@TreonsRealm Knowing Nintendo, there's no way they'd port three semi-recent remakes to the Switch in one collection. We may get OoT/MM, then WW/TP in a separate collection, assuming Nintendo doesn't just sell each individually for $60 apiece.
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is one of the most important Legend of Zelda games beside, Link to the Past and Breath of the Wild, the game is not overrated.
@TheFullAndy Challenging someone in that sort of way isn't how anyone would want to discuss. It comes off as you being seen as someone toxic. I hope you understand that.
You're right, Ocarina of Time may be too successful to be considered overrated, but that doesn't mean the requests for a Switch version aren't way too excessive. Other Zelda games haven't even gotten a remaster and remake yet, and suddenly fans are asking for a re-remaster or a remake of a remaster?
@TheLightSpirit I definitely have to agree there. I keep telling others to give other Zelda games a chance, ESPECIALLY Skyward Sword which hasn't gotten a remaster or remake yet.
One of my favorite Zelda games and a remake would be perfect for Switch. Hopefully they consider it.
@NathanTheAsian
Meh.
Edit: Also who determines that requests for OOT on Switch are excessive?
If people are asking they aren't excessive they are just a sign that a lot of people want the game on the Switch or are they all wrong and you are right?
@TheFullAndy
It's not about who's wrong or right. It's simply something that I and others perceive as unfair.
@NathanTheAsian
Suck it up bud, more people want Ocarina of Time.
I want them all but that is the first game I want on Switch.
@TheLightSpirit
In my opinion their opinion does suck so that's why I said it, end of.
Why should people just accept the game has had its day? When the likes of SnazzyAl are still making content about the game it shows the game is still very much in people's hearts and minds and they don't have to let it go just because you and others of your ilk declare it.
Again you get all flustered I said someone's opinion sucks yet you are trying to tell people to get over a game they love. How is that not trying to assert your views on someone?
Considering a fan was remaking the whole game in UE4 solo before he got shut down, Nintendo should at least try to match that quality before shipping a Switch copy. We don't just want OoT on Switch, we want a high quality OoT on Switch.
This game deserves care and love, especially in light of its importance to the medium — but I hope they don't remake it.
In my opinion, the right direction for retro preservation is what M2 did with Virtua Racing or what Nightdive did with Doom 64: judiciously update the graphics in consideration of the kinds of monitors we're using today, but don't change the underlying art style and mechanics.
What a lot of gamers don't seem to understand — since they're viewing videogames through the prism of tech — is that, in aesthetic or artistic terms, modern graphics are not inherently superior to older graphics. A lot of remakes overhaul their originals — and dramatically alter the atmosphere and vibe as a result. This has nothing to do with nostalgia or purism. It's just how art works: different things on the screen evoke different emotions.
It's why, when black and white movies were being colorized, cinephiles went nuts. They weren't romanticizing the past, they were rightly concerned about preserving the audiovisual quality and creative decisions behind classic films.
And here's what Ocarina of Time could look like on hardware that isn't 4 years out of date: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhpzaViVdKQ
@TheFullAndy Hey, I'm not denying that fact. I don't know what you gain by talking to people like that.
@NathanTheAsian
It's called banter.
@TheFullAndy
It's hard to see it as banter over text, unfortunately.
As others have noted, you really don't have to upscale it. The assets for the 3D remake were already 1080p downscaled for the 3DS. @Atariboy posted this above and reposting because it needs as many views as possible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7qQckdFUY8
Would it be nice to get even more triangles? I guess, but honestly I don't really need that. I'd rather get a few more gameplay tweaks or a little bonus content. Graphics just aren't everything. I'm care more about what you do with them, such as the atmosphere of the Lost Woods, which is much better in OoT 3D or the sea-life architecture in the Great Bay in MM 3D. I only played those games on original N64 (or Virtual Console) and would love to play again on my HD TV. As far as I'm concerned, give me dual-analogue camera controls and tweak the gameplay a little more and you can ship it as is, emulated in native 1080p and I'll buy it. I'd much prefer it wasn't $60 though. Can't have Ocarina with Majora's mask, they're a duo so I'm not even entertaining having one and not the other.
Nintendo is overthinking it, I think. I don't need a FF7 style remake. I don't need anything involving the Unreal engine or ray tracing. I don't need it redone in the BotW engine or art style (it's actually kinda small for that I realize). Just a classic made viewable on a modern television (like Wind Waker HD).
I have both OoT and MM on Wii U Virtual Console and I while I love my Wii U, I'd really like everything I love on it to get rescued off of it so I can free up and HDMI port. That includes Wind Waker and Twilight HD, and Skyward Sword. I have no problem whatsoever with having my full catalogue of games since NES playable on my Switch. I never want my old content to be unplayable anymore than I want movies I saw in 1990 to be unwatchable. As a PC gamer this seems pretty intuitive.
And here's a 4K texture pack made by a fan:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB36JWnBvak
It's running in the Citra emulator. Looks great! I just want Nintendo to make this happen so I can revisit a game I literally haven't played front to back since 1999.
It's funny this popped up today. Last night, someone on Reddit asked if there had been evidence of a Zelda anniversary collection. Of course, it's all been speculation based on the Mario collection. But it had me thinking if it does happen, what games would be included. Assuming OoT would be one of those games, what version would they use and what would it look like?
I would never buy OOT3D/MM3D on the Switch. They were such hyper conservative remakes even for the 3DS. Either give us an actual remake or don't even bother.
I’ve just beaten the Stone Temple on Majoras Mask, on the n64 version...it’s a great game but the laggy frame rate can be annoying.
So I would eat up an Ocarina of Time/Majoras Mask HD set on the Switch.
I also enjoyed Wind Waker and Twilight Princess back in the day but thought they were too easy combat wise, so would eat up the HD remasters on the Switch also as they have hero mode from the off.
Ocarina of Time HD / Majoras Mask HD bundle
Wind Waker HD / Twilight Princess HD bundle
Skyward Sword HD standalone
Would eat these three up in a heartbeat on the Switch.
I don't think I'd buy a simple upscaling, it wouldn't make much sense compares to BotW, but I would definitely buy a proper remake like FF7 Remake on PS4 with modern standards, reviewed combat, new items, quests, bigger world, etc.
Also why isn't Skyward Sword HD already out on the Switch??? It's the perfect console for this game! Also 2021 is the 10th anniversary of the game and Link's (and Zelda's) 35th anniversary.
This game is excellent on the 3DS XL. What's the point of porting to it the Switch??? I'm not interested.
No doubt in my mind this is coming in 2021. As far as enhancements go, i expect very, very few.
I actually expect an Ocarina of Time Remake akin to FFVIIR. A remaster has already happened on 3DS. Skyward Sword could be the remaster, and Ocarina of Time could be the remake.
@Ulysses Yep, exactly what I was going to say. Skyward Sword remaster and OOT remake.
I keep seeing 3DS to Switch mentioned... OOT/MM, Mario 3D Land, DKC Returns, Kid Icarus, Metroid... fact is, not a single 3DS game has been ported to date and that is very telling.
A full on OOT remake to mark the Zelda 35th Anniversary is exactly the kind of thing I would hope to see. The only issue I have with it, is that it surely spells out a delay to BotW2... well I say delay... it has no date yet. OOT remake this year, means BotW2 in 2022 surely?
@nocdaes That's a good point; between Skyward Sword, an Ocarina of Time Remake and BOTW2, three Zeldas in one year would definitely reach some sort of saturation point. And I am definitely expecting BOTW2 for this year. More likely perhaps, Nintendo will continue brewing OoTR in the background and save it as a future ace in their sleeve: perhaps a system seller for their next console.
"they think most fans would settle for the 3DS version"
I'm one of those fans. I think the 3D effects enhance the low poly visuals way more than a resolution or FPS bump ever could. To me the 3DS version of the game is the definitive one, don't need it on Switch as well. EDIT: And I'd rather they spent time on a new game rather than a remake of OoT.
@Beaucine they could add a classic mode for people to have a more N64 experience.
@nocdaes this is a pretty big anniversary year what would normally be too much wouldn't.
@Rohanrocks88 they'd probably include those ridiculous changes to the bosses.
Was there supposed to be a difference in this video? I didn't see anything different.
But I think instead of having it this way, Nintendo should remaster or remake OOT and have it sorta look like the PC modded version of OOT. It will be extra beautiful and more appealing to the ones who only have played BOTW and no other zelda games. Because I talked to those kind of people and most of them complained of how the graphics look and makes them not want to try the older zelda games. Like graphics don't always matter, just give it a try!
@Ulysses might as well call it Zelda year if that did happen if all 3 Zelda games came out on switch.
@invictus4000
I don't even reckon we'll get that.
If there is a collection of Zelda games for the 35th Anniversary it'll be the original ocarina of time (N64), Wind Waker (Gamecube), and Twilight Princess (Gamecube).
I don't think they'll put the HD remakes in a collection. People get carried away like its Nintendo Xmas every month.
I would love to see just ocarina of time and majora's mask in a limited edition bundle. I don't care if it the originals or the 3ds versions. How can those games not be on the Switch in some form almost 4 years after launch? Final Fantasy 7 is even on Switch.
@GrandScribe
Sure, but:
1) That doesn't always happen with Nintendo. Link's Awakening is a great example: we only got the remake.
2) If bundled with the remake, it's unlikely any work would be done to the classic version to polish it for modern displays.
As mentioned before, I'm not against slight, judicious updates, to help classics scale better in current resolutions and frame rates. Though I certainly prefer a light touch when it comes to such things, for the aforementioned reasons.
@invictus4000 Let's be real, if we get OoT on Switch we will get a straight emulation of the N64 version running at 20 fps lol.
There is only one Zelda game that needs a remake: Phantom Hourglass. It's controlled with the DS stylus, which was a terrible decision. A version with normal controls would make sense, as people would actually finally want to play it.
Feel like this method for creating a trailer makes no sense, the game looked better on N64 than this trailer shows, and if you actually rendered the 3DS version in HD, it'd be much closer to how it would appear on Switch if ever. This guy is doing a MUCH better job showing off OOT3D running at HD resolution, and with HD textures:
https://youtu.be/yB36JWnBvak
@TheWingedAvenger If they really wanted to get people to want to play Phantom Hourglass they'd also have to do something about that horrible temple you have to go to over and over again. The controls didn't help but that temple is probably the biggest reason I played Phantom Hourglass once and I've never wanted to play it again.
Didn't Spirit Tracks also use the stylus as the control method?
Mmm, I guess this would be cool for some of you....?
But honestly, I have ZERO interest in an Ocarina Of Time port. To me, this is one of the worst Zelda games ever made (it's down there on my list right next to Zelda II: The Adventures Of Link).
An because every Zelda game afterwards was built on the ground work of Ocarina (Link Between Worlds being the only exception), I could not get into any of the games afterwards UNTIL Breath Of The Wild came along and changed the formula completely (thank god).
Breath Of The Wild is what brought me back to Zelda after Ocarina Of Time ruined it for me 22 years ago.
This is just an upscaled trailer. I was expecting to see a mock-up of Link continously falling off ledges due to joy-con drift.
“Just imagine 1080/60”. Lmao.
Considering how Mario 64 DS was ignored for the anniversary, I'm sure (and hope) we get the N64 versions. ESPECIALLY as far as Majora's Mask would be concerned. The remake butchered it for the most part.
Wouldn't a video of the game running in Citra at 1080p be more effective than an AI upscaled trailer?
The remake fans will be happy
@TheLightSpirit
I assume your lack of a response is you accepting you were being a hypocrite yes?
@TheLightSpirit
Nah I am thinking it is because you could not effectively argue your point.
You have tried to call me out before then blamed it on lack of sleep on your part making you grumpy.
One time I let go but a second? Sort yourself out son and stop being a hypocrite.
@TheLightSpirit
Example of you being a hypocrite:
"I don't try to assert my views or beliefs onto others"
followed by:
"This game has had its day and the sooner this fandom realises that the better."
Son best put me on ignore because you are easy pickings.
Pathetic.
@TheLightSpirit
"Why are you here anyway?"
Why am I here in an article about the Ocarina of Time as a fan of the Ocarina of Time?! It is certainly confusing!
Why are you here numpty?
@TheLightSpirit
"Don't waste your time with me because I won't respond anymore"
Again, easy pickings.
@TheLightSpirit
"I'm not the grown man arguing over a kid's game"
Yet you are and you have been, again with the hypocrisy.
And again with the easy pickings!
Too easy son.
@TheFullAndy please tone it down with the bad attitude, don't try to poke users to get responses. Let arguments end.
@Lady_Harubun
I too wondered about the Mario DS release. Given what I saw of OoT 3D I thought it might be a no-brainer but after looking at gameplay it really didn't capture the style of the original. The color palette is ... just different. Like why is the grass yellow like that? I love Luigi and would probably have loved to play Mario 64 as Luigi but I can see how Nintendo wouldn't pick Mario DS to celebrate the history of Mario anymore than the Super Mario Allstars version of Mario 1,2,3 would be considered definitive.
OoT 3D makes a MUCH stronger case. Full disclosure, I never thought the Water Temple was a problem, but I'll even stomach that change for the better models.
MM 3D... MM might be my favorite Zelda. I'm torn honestly between it an OoT. So that the 3D version made some of its changes are really painful to me. I just rewatched Nerrel's MM 3D review video again just to remind myself of all the changes. I desperately want to updated models and textures. And they can miss me with most of the other gameplay changes. Bombers notebook is maybe the most useful valuable thing there after the landing reticule for the deku flower (like what was added for the Deku leaf in WW HD).
Having said that, a lot of folks struggled to stick with MM because of some of its mechanics. I loved the whole groundhog day thing. I didn't mind putting my money in the bank. I liked the saving system. But my best friend absolutely hated it and just never finished the game. I remember him getting very angry about it. I think a better balance can be struck between allowing more people to enjoy one of the most creative titles in the series and jettisoning all of its unique qualities. I would prefer they revert a handful of the worst offenders in the MM3D release. Basically, they should just look at his video and fix like all of that. Should be pretty quick to implement everything other than all the boss fight stuff and just as long to test.
Really a different beast than Mario 64, honestly.
@sketchturner
I can do without those crappy frame rates though.
I vividly remember owning both the PC and N64 versions of Shadows of the Empire. Man the PC version was leagues better, even if I have more nostalgia for the N64 version since I owned that one first.
@Eel
Just some banter, I am now a man of peace and love.
As much as I would love this we all know that Nintendo is most likely going to just release the N64 version with upgraded textures, even though they have a superior version that they could port.
To be honest I think the time has passed for something like this. Modernize it properly or just leave it as it is, as part of an N64 NS Online perk or something. I'd love to see a proper remake though.
A remake plz, not upscaled pixels.
@GrandScribe
Ah yes, I had completely forgotten that the backtracking in Phantom Hourglass was annoying! Yeah, Spirit Tracks also has the awful stylus controls, but I didn't even buy that one because I was turned off by their choice of not having a typical open-world Zelda game, opting instead for the train nonsense, which was just a cop-out.
I hope they make a remake triple games pack much like Mario All Stars. That would be amazing to have them remade on switch for 35th year of zelda.
@GrewupNintendo dude then play from an emulator to the TV screen or something. Every time Nintendo rereleases something I feel they use that as an excuse to not release something that’s actually made for the switch. We’re asking for N64 stuff that’s rereleased several times. Don’t get me wrong I love the classics but it’s just too soon to bring them back. We should be willing to wait until at least the next upcoming home console and hope that they can increase the graphics to FHD quality by then. Sure they can do it now but will they? And is it as exciting seeing that the game is still fresh in everyone’s heads?
@TheWingedAvenger in my opinion its probably one of the worst games Nintendo released in the last 20 years.
@Freddyfred Or just give it a wider and much cleaner field of view!
@GrandScribe Agreed since needing to use the touchscreen to completely control Link in the two DS Zelda games was a completely tubular idea!
I'd 100% pay full price for OoT3D and MM3D HD bundle on the switch.
I need this game. If nintendo didthis they would make a lot of money
@GrandScribe this is Nintendo - look at the Super Mario package, zero effort and fans, particularly on Nintendolife gave them the green light.
@TheRedComet at the time of release Shadows was a difficult game to run on PC. It took good year before a card was running it properly. You must've had a super expensive PC.
@Nerdling aw, Nintendo better leave it alone because it upset you 😭😭😭Lol.
Well played through it recently on real hardware and have to say I love it. The dungeons, story, everything just hits the spot for me, its right up at the top.
If they remastered the 3DS version I would l love to see the 64DD content they had planned and developed re implemented to flesh out the game world more and add a free moving camera like MM3D.
If the make an definitive HD version of either ocarina or majora's mask; they should base it on the extra polish that went into the 3ds version.
The only thing needing a major fix is boss fights in Majora's Mask & perhaps lilly pod jumping. I assume both were change due to the 3ds' limited controls. I still have not played Majora's Mask due to the changes.
My youngest and I have been throughly enjoying it.
@liveswired
No I played it around 2001 when I got my first “real” PC.
There was a computer hobby store nearby that had copies of mid 90s PC titles for about ten bucks a piece. Shadows was one of the dozen or so I bought.
The N64 version was one of my first two games I got for that system in Christmas of 1997. I got that and Mario Kart 64. That’s mainly why I have way more nostalgia for the N64 version.
@liveswired Haha, oh I don't care what they do with it going forward. It's their game, their ideas, and hey, good for them! I have no doubt what-so-ever that it would sell to fans like you who enjoyed the original. However, I will choose to pass because I didn't enjoy it. Now, if it were to be redone in BOTWs engine under that dev team (which is exactly what it SHOULD BE if it ever happens), then yes, I'd be interested cuz I know we'd be getting totally redesigned game.
But yeah, OOT is the one Zelda game I point to whenever I talk about why I started losing interest in the series. I just felt that game was bland from beginning to end. It didn't leave me hungry for another Zelda game, and I was quite aware of that lack of hunger. I even used to try and convince myself that I had actually enjoyed it, even though I didn't, lol.
But you know what? Wind Waker gave me hope. I feel like Wind Waker is what OOT should have been. It was TONS better than TP. I mean yeah, TP sure was pretty to look at and all, but of all the Zelda games using OOTs play model, Wind Waker is easily the best one.
Anyway...
Whenever I come across folks who are dead set on playing OOT for the first time despite my opinions on it, I always refer them to the 3DS version for the improved visuals and slightly better controls.
IMO, it needs all the sugar coating it can get! 😂
Even if Nintendo releases a regular N64 port of OoT for the Switch at full price, I'd still buy it instantly... I realise I'm part of the problem, sorry about that!
@TreonsRealm Now that we have NSO, and some people will play it there, Nintendo should release a double pack of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess/ plus a deluxe version that would include Ocarina of Time 3D, and Majoras Mask 3d, so that people that have NSO won’t need the deluxe package, and those who wish, can pay extra for these upgraded versions. I would pay anything for upgraded Ocarina 3D on Switch!!!!!! Anyone else feeling the same way?
