Update #3 [Tue 13th Jul, 2021 03:05 BST]: A Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel demo is now available on the Japanese eShop. Once again, this game launches in Japan on 12th August. There's still no word on a local release.
Update #2 [Sun 18th Apr, 2021 09:30 BST]: While there's still no mention of a local release, Konami has now locked in an official Japanese release date for its next Yu-Gi-Oh! game, Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel.
The game will arrive on 12th August, with pre-orders opening this month on 22nd April. Interestingly, first-print copies will come with three exclusive physical cards, and all pre-orders will include an amiibo card.
There's no information just yet about what exactly this amiibo card will offer, but if we hear anything we will update this post.
Update #1 [Sat 20th Mar, 2021 15:30 GMT]: The latest issue of V-Jump has revealed Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel: Saikyou Battle Royale!! will arrive in Japan this Summer (via Gematsu). It will include a "game-original" story featuring characters from the anime, Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS. The official game website has also gone live.
Original article [Sun 20th Dec, 2020 07:45 GMT]: At Jump Fiesta 2021 Online this weekend, Konami announced Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel was in development for the Switch.
This latest take on the card game series first appeared in Japan alongside the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime earlier this year, and is the seventh Yu-Gi-Oh! show. Gematsu provides a little extra insight about what players can expect from the Switch version:
Players can Normal Summon any number of monsters from their hand in one turn, as well as draw until at least five cards are in their hand.
In the Switch game, players will be able to battle against the characters that appear in the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime.
The anime itself hasn't even been localised yet, although a trademark for an English version was filed in June this year. If this goes ahead, perhaps the Switch game will follow.
If you want a Yu-Gi-Oh! fix sooner rather than later, why not try out Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution which is available on the Switch eShop right now.

I loved yu-gi-oh at some point If it whent on sale I would pick it up.
Are those the new rules of the actual game or just a variant for this specific videogame?
Like... they may sound like a small changes, but gosh... that will dramatically change the game's pace and strategies. Can't deny I am at the very least interested to hear more.
@BakaKnight Rush Duels are a different style of Yugioh with it's own cards & ruleset. But we don't have Rush Duels in the West so I assume we're not getting this game so...
I kind of get obsessed when playing Yu-gi-oh video games. So this is good news for me.
Still waiting for an Igavania collection on Switch. :’)
Truthfully I'd like them to remaster Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom. After playing so many of the card games, I'd like some Varity.
Though I'd also like to play Duelist of the Roses too. What a Great plot.
Loved Yu-Gi-Oh on NDS, why they dont release a classic game with old characters? i don't know the new kids
@dimi The Link Evolution on the Switch has all of them. The main campaign is literally going through the story of every single anime. You can also use the character deck if you want to (that is, use Yugi's deck when playing as Yugi and Joey's deck when playing as Joey).
It's a very good game for those who left along the way and aren't interested on catching up with the latest.
The only games I want to hear announced from Konami are Silent Hills and Metal Gear Solid, even if it is just the remastered games of past entries.
I love to collect Yu-Gi-Oh games! The GBA 2006 GX tournament ones are amazing! The DS ones are very good as well!
My favorite one is the one on the Switch! I love the story mode!
And contrary to most people the GX seasons are my favorite! The only one I couldn't watch is the last one as it was not dubbed in English. I dislike watching in Japanese
We do have rush duels here. You can even buy the precons for it. I have the blue eyes one. Its a damn shame though, I really liked legacy of the duelist and its extensive library. Would be the literal perfect duel simulator if it just had the bug fixes to stop it from crashing
@Snatcher
Its been $20 = 50% off physical for the past few weeks in the US
I guess the series isn't dead after all. 😐
I really shouldn't be upset about this since I don't have to play any of these games. I guess hearing announcements of new games reminds me of the cartoon which I thought was utterly ridiculous and overly melodramatic.
I really crave for a TGC game that I got sucked into with a lot if collecting, events and (yes I say it) mtx and boosters.
But I just can't get into the looks of YGO. The cards look terrible in my opinion.
Hopefully Magic Arena will come at some point. But seeing how long they took to even get it going for Mac ...
"At Jump Fiesta 2021 Online this weekend"
You have a typo, it's "Festa" not "fiesta".
Escalation has really made this and MTG unplayable. Gotta get them to buy the next set, so the next set has to wipe the floor with every card already out there. Rinse and repeat for a few decades and a good hand from a perfectly constructed deck can defeat anyone on the first round. I have a deck that summons a 2800/3000 card on the first round on 15% of all possible draws.
But if you want to use the cards you actually like or remember from growing up your lucky to have a single summon with over 1400 on your second turn.
I love Yu-Gi-Oh. I have my own Blue Eyes White Dragon deck. In an online website where I can make a deck and start dueling, I made a deck of 2 of my favorite Dragons each: Blue-Eyes and Red-Eyes.
I have decided to start trying Red-Eyes because I feel like it can surpass Blue Eyes in many ways and I think it is more fun to play as Red Eyes.
Nevertheless, I love both Red Eyes and Blue Eyes. Excited for this game to come out
Wait there are different protagonists? Hmm starting to feel my age a bit.
(It’s a joke)
@Ryu_Niiyama
Probably a language thing more then an age thing. I think only one series was ever translated or officially in the west. So most of us only know the one protagonist from Dual Masters, not the ones from the like ... 9 other series of Manga?
I'm the same. I loved Yu-gi-oh, but by the time my Japanese was anywhere NEAR able to read a manga I lost interest, So I only know anything at all about the English series and I have no clue what is going on in the games.
@Ryu_Niiyama Yugi, Jaden, Yusei, are the only ones I remember, that's when I fell off the YuGiOh train. Still have my deck from my youth though!, And my God Cards!
If it comes to the west, can’t say I’m really interested. Don’t like the generic art style they went with, or rush duels. Hoping the next series goes back to the old style and older style of duels.
I just want an open world Yu-Gi-Oh! game where you walk around, meet interesting characters, duel them, visit the shop to buy cards...A game with an original story and main character, perhaps with choices that change the story a bit. Is that too much to ask?
I want Dance Dance Revolution A20+ on Nintendo Switch.
It has Evans by DJ Yoshitaka on DDR A20+.
Ah the usual exclusion of western releases of Japanese games. Nothing new there
@NoTimeForBS
Lol can't you do that in real life? Buy cards and play against people
But seriously this IP has a lot of potential for open world style, AR, VR, rpg, there's a lot that could be done if in the right hands
@tadams587
I would definitely love Falsebound Kingdom!
@DrDaisy the dub is worse, but the subs are pretty good. Not to mention the manga, which I at least can say the original manga is better, due to the fact that it’s way darker.
@anoyonmus in this case, it’s good. Rush duels change the game drastically.. and they just din’t feel right.
@HeadPirate Rush duels really seem to be kind of broken honestly.
I don’t have any experience with rush duels (seems to be unfairly balanced and that saying something since the dawn of pendulum summons which I feel is cheap) hopefully though this allows you to play traditional matches and brings back the card code transfer.
"The anime itself hasn't even been localised yet"
I don't comprehend the problem. Why would you want to watch dubbed anime? The Steins;Gate video I watched on Youtube by accident and made me literally cringe, within seconds, (I was looking for a meme) just added other points to the "And this is why I watch my stuff with the original audio" list. Faris, who sounds in English like an annoying person, doesn't even speak Nyannyanian in English... Sad... That's as if I would want to watch Doctor Who in German, where everyones favorite Doctor obviously doesn't have a Scottish accent. Sad... I have no idea why people always need to destroy their own joy. But, eh, I'm not their mother... If people desperately want to be unhappy (and if you look around the internet most people seem to be very unhappy all life long) then more power to them. <shrugs>
@VoidofLight true.
I like the old fashioned long duel where you normal summon ONE monster instead of multiple each turn
@Altina some people don't like subtitles, it's pretty obvious why people would prefer dubs over subs. Some dubs are great and some are bad, just the way it is.
Also what does that even mean? How does someone sound like one? Awful word to use as well by the way.
They should really give some support to link evolution, update the game so it doesn't crash every time theres a combo happening. Also new updated ban lists would be appreciated and dlc!
Honestly, the dubs are alright unless they censor or cut parts (Like what Yu-Gi-Oh is notorious for). Literally, 4Kids cut out a scene of Bakura eating a steak.
Wait... Konami still make games?
"Players can Normal Summon any number of monsters from their hand in one turn"
Did you just summon a bunch of monsters in one turn? That's against the rules isn't it?
Konami needs to bring or make new entries to their arcade classics on Switch with local & online multiplayer support...
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Simpsons, X-Men, Bucky O'Hare etc... all classic fun arcade multiplayer brawlers.
I understand there are some licensing hurdles, but they've already kinda sorted through some of that before in the past bringing some of these to PS3 before, so it's not impossible. A collection like Capcom and others have done already on Switch or cheap separate listings would be great!
@Dr_Lugae screw the rules, I have money
I doubt I will ever understand the appeal of these games.
@VoidofLight So in the originals, the characters don't act like they're about to beat the hell out of each other before drawing their cards?
Hmm, "sideways glance over at 14 Metal Gear games, a bunch of Silent hills, a new Castlevania, still waiting to release on Switch".
@Classic603 Yeah, true. I do have my old cards still (and some new), but it is very rare that I get to play with someone irl. I also dislike many of the new mechanics that basically make you play half your deck in one turn. I do agree with the rest.
@NoTimeForBS
Yeah I was mostly being cheeky. I personally haven't been into Yu-Gi-Oh since middle school, but there's a ton that can be done to bring the IP into the modern age
@DrDaisy In the manga, it's not entirely about the card games. There's more to it than just playing the trading card game, with the earlier chapters focusing on more extreme games, like for example a game where Yugi and some guy play table hockey with a puck made from ice and gunpowder, on top of a stove.
It's also important to note that the manga does eventually get into the card game, but even then it's explained that the people getting hurt or even dying isn't because the card game itself, but rather a "Shadow game". Effectively, the only reason the original manga even starts to focus on the card game itself has to do with the fact that the people who read it wanted to see more of the card game, instead of the different games being played every chapter.
Konami cancelled the MGS and Bomberman board games. As far as I'm concerned Konami sucks balls and doesn't actually care about their fans.
@VoidofLight Huh. It still doesn't sound appealing to me personally, but that's okay with me. Well, I'm trying to be okay with it anyway. I know my tastes aren't the only tastes that count and I never have to play these games, read the mangas, or watch the animes, but for some reason that makes no sense to me, I almost always get at least a little annoyed when I hear about Yu-Gi-Oh again. I wish I could tweak my brain so that trivial stuff doesn't bother me anymore, but alas, even therapy doesn't seem to fix that.
I've never been a fan of the Yu Gi Oh anime nor the manga, but I did have a demo disc for the PC version of a Yu Gi Oh game way back in the mid to late 90's, and I remember enjoying it quite a bit. I doubt that I'll be getting this, though, even if it does come to the west.
@DsheroX I think you're thinking of Speed Duels which reuse old cards.
Rush duels is a reboot with it's own cards.
i don't know new dudes, only Kaiba, Joe and Yugi
there is always the other new game, since they did say there'd be 2 new yugioh games this year,
the other one will be more like we're playing now with legacy of the duelist.
Just trust the heart of the cards, that's the key to win.
Alright, let her rip! Oops wrong show.
@BakaKnight this is a varient of the original game known as rush duels and has been released in asia but not yet europe or america so I dont know if this game will be translated to english
I love Yu-Gi-Oh and I really liked Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution!
I hope it gets English release!
I still play my Yu-Gi-Oh GX Duel Academy (GBA) from time to time!
@DsheroX well, that and the ability to choose which ban list to use as well as the ability to create and use a custom banlist
I don't know what this trash is, but yu-gi-oh is dead. It died with with duel links, and you can thank konomi's greedy ass for that.
I really wish they'd release the Pokemon TCG on the Switch, theres definitely a market for it, and it'd blow everything else out of the water
this does look really good though, hope it gets a Western release
Being a fan, I think it needs much more cool attack animations instead of the standard bumping into another card attack and the occasional rare attack animations for the well known classic cards.
