Re: There's A New Nintendo Switch System Firmware Update Coming Soon

DrDaisy

I'm not holding my breath for anything exciting, although folders would be nice so I could put the games I need carts for in a separate category. I just hope it's not something terrible like having to connect to the internet every time you turn the Switch on. I know that's extremely unlikely to happen because it would be detrimental to the Switch's main advantage over the competition, but you never know. Microsoft almost tried the always-online approach, and even though it was cancelled due to well-deserved backlash as well as being mocked by Sony, I doubt we'll see the last if that idea.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Pro "Will Have Exclusives", Says Insider

DrDaisy

@sixrings I'm not concerned about them merely running better on a pro Switch, I'm concerned about newer games running poorly on the original because they were programmed specifically for the pro model so the original can't handle them well. This happened with Hyrule Warriors Legends on the 3DS.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Backing Down On Its Decision To Pull Mario Products From Stores This Month

DrDaisy

@NEStalgia They may not be much, but the soundtracks in Super Mario 3D All-Stars and the extra game that comes with the Switch port of Super Mario 3D World are hardly nothing. Still, I'd probably rather have gotten Super Mario 3D World for $20 less instead of seeing one of my most hated game characters again. (Seriously, Bowser Jr is one or the reasons I have so little respect for Shigeru Miyamoto these days.)

Re: Nintendo Isn't Backing Down On Its Decision To Pull Mario Products From Stores This Month

DrDaisy

I'm not sure about Super Mario 35 (unless it's to sell more online subscriptions in a short burst), but aside from the "it's just for the anniversary" excuse, I wouldn't be surprised if many of the greedier people running Nintendo really just want to sell as many copies in as short amount of time of Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Fire Emblem as they can, and as disgusting as the limited supply and time methods are, they usually work. People are more likely to buy things if they don't believe they can buy them later.

Re: Panzer Dragoon II Zwei: Remake Takes Flight This Year

DrDaisy

It's too bad Panzer Dragoon Orta was never put on Wii. It would have been great with Wiimote aiming. Unfortunately, the gyro functions of Joy-cons are so much less precise that Akaoni didn't even bother using them in the Switch port of Zombie Panic in Wonderland. Don't laugh, Sony fans. The Move controllers are even worse.

Re: Hamster Confirms Two More Coin-Op Classics For Its Arcade Archives Range On Switch

DrDaisy

@Scollurio Constantly saving helpless women had it's place back in the old days, I guess, so I'm not really harping on those older games. I do find it annoying that Peach still needs to be rescued in almost every main Mario game though. I guess Super Princess Peach didn't sell well enough.

Speaking of old beat-em-ups where you have to rescue some girl, what's that one where she turns out to be the villain and you have to fight her on a rooftop?

Re: Hamster Confirms Two More Coin-Op Classics For Its Arcade Archives Range On Switch

DrDaisy

As sick as I am of the "damsel in distress" angle, I know that these are old games and that changing them wouldn't help. I don't think I'll buy either of these games though, and I hope HAMSTER ports Violent Storm (even though it has that same damn trope), Metamorphic Force, and Mystic Warriors before they stop working with Konami. Of course I also want The Simpsons, X-Men, and the two TMNT games, although I know I know it's strictly taboo... Er, I mean that's not likely happen because of licensing issues. Then again, Ubisoft did partner with Konami to port TMNT to Xbox 360, so who knows?

Re: Arika Announces Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash For Nintendo Switch

DrDaisy

@NinjaWaddleDee I'm sure it will be great for modern fighting game enthusiasts who give it a try. Unfortunately for me, my reflexes have never been fast enough to handle the more technical fighting games where counters and extensive combos are crucial. If I can rent this though, I think I'll give it a try.

Re: Our Top Picks From The Games In The Current Eshop Sale

DrDaisy

I bought Namco Museum Archives Vol 1 a few days ago. I'm glad Nintendo finally implemented button mapping in the system menu (although I wish invert control stick options would have been added too) but I still wish this game had in-game button-mapping so I don't have to mess around with the system settings again when I choose a different game. It seems like a weird omission considering M2 has included it in most of their ports.

Re: Miitopia Has An 18+ Rating In Russia Because Of Its Same-Sex Relationships

DrDaisy

Another thing. I know at least one guy who likes to play as female characters and is attracted to women. There are probably also girls who like to play as guys and still date other guys even in the virtual world so it's not just about the sexual orientation of the player. I seriously doubt every single person who plays this game will use an avatar with a matching gender.

Re: Miitopia Has An 18+ Rating In Russia Because Of Its Same-Sex Relationships

DrDaisy

"Tomodachi: New Life allowed male characters to marry and have children, but not women." Why were lesbian marriages specifically excluded? That sounds like an ancient Greek mentality.

The so-called "cases" against homosexual relationships hold about as much water as a tiny plastic colander that was knocked around with an aluminum baseball bat. I understand why religion was so important before modern science came along, but people should know better now. If some omnipotent force made some people gay, why would said force want them to act against their own nature? Also, in terms of keeping up a healthy population, that doesn't make sense either. There are way too many people on this planet, and a lot fewer accidental pregnancies could hardly be considered a bad thing to any logical person.
Sorry. I got a little carried away.
