We're not sure about you, but even after yesterday's spicy Bowser's Fury trailer, we were still left wondering just how this new expansion really plays out. How long is it? Is it made of different levels, or just the one open world? The list goes on.

Finally, though, Nintendo has shared some further details on what we can expect in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury's brand new content. Perhaps most interestingly, on a newly-opened website for the game, the company refers to the new content as a "free-roam adventure", proving that the new world is indeed 'open', as opposed to the base game's A-to-B-style level design.

"Mario is sent to Lake Lapcat, where everything is cat-themed—and Bowser has gone berserk! Team up with Bowser Jr. to help his dad chill out in this short but action-packed standalone adventure.

In this free-roaming adventure, you’ll travel to various islands in Lake Lapcat to collect Cat Shines to reignite lighthouses and clear darkened terrain. Watch out for Bowser, though!"

The site also goes into a little more detail on Bowser's terrifying 'full Fury' mode:

"When Bowser is in full Fury, he can be pretty scary. Luckily, Mario can match his might with the Giga Bell, which lets him transform into the mighty Giga Cat Mario and go toe-to-toe with the monstrous Bowser in a titanic battle of biggies."

Elsewhere, it's now been confirmed that Bowser Jr. can be controlled by a second player – as you probably would have guessed by watching yesterday's trailer – with that player aiming to fight off enemies and discover secrets.

amiibo functionality has also been revealed. The new Cat Mario and Cat Peach figures offer up power-ups, the original Bowser amiibo makes Fury Bowser appear (although we'd hope Fury Bowser can also appear without an amiibo) and the Bowser Jr. amiibo unleashes a powerful shockwave to knock out nearby enemies and blocks. Other figures will also be compatible, although their functions haven't yet been revealed.

Excited for this one? Pre-orders are now open!
