Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

Dogorilla

I voted for Switch 1 version, then remembered I actually ordered the Switch 2 version because it's cross-compatible with the original Switch (I don't have a S2 yet). Anyway, I'm not sure whether I'll like this game as much as Arceus but I'm looking forward to finding out!

Re: Avatar: The Last Airbender Is Getting Its Very Own Switch 2 Fighter Next Year

Dogorilla

Not sure I understand the comments about it looking cheap. Obviously it's not TV-level animation but it's only pre-alpha footage, and even then it captures the style of the cartoon better than any other Avatar game I've seen. I'm not the biggest fan of fighting games (and the DLC release model for many of them doesn't help) but I'd probably be up for giving this a go.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (11th October)

I'm still aiming to wrap up the Pokedex in Legends Arceus before Z-A comes out (just catching everything for now, I won't have time to get 100% research) - I've been struggling to fit in much gaming time but I think I'm nearly there now!

I also had a quick go at Bubsy on NSO yesterday. Don't think I'll play that again.

Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?

Dogorilla

Only one every few months at most if we're talking about newly released full-price games, but I pick up discounted older games (on the eShop or physically) a bit more often. Even then I don't feel like I buy loads, but I do have quite a lot of games when you add them all up...

Re: Review: Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Switch) - Still Out Of This World

Dogorilla

Personally I'm glad the new content is minimal - I'm quite happy to stick with the Wii versions, so I'm glad I'm not missing out on any new levels or anything (I still haven't played Bowser's Fury, as much as I'd like to, because it didn't seem worth paying full price for that package when I already have 3D World on Wii U).

I think relatively straightforward ports/remasters like this are the way to go for most games: it gives easy access to them for anyone who hasn't played them before, and people who have played them don't need to buy them again, so everyone is happy! Right, guys?

Re: Surprise! Donkey Kong Bananza Is Getting DLC, And It's Out Today

Dogorilla

I'm a little surprised Nintendo is already going down the paid DLC route for a full-price* Switch 2 game, after all the pricing backlash. I'm sure it will be good but I was naively hoping the higher prices for Switch 2 games might mean you actually get the whole game for that price.

*or arguably not quite 'full-price' considering Mario Kart is even more expensive

Re: Virtual Boy Is Being Added To Nintendo Switch Online

Dogorilla

I think it's silly that you need a subscription and an accessory to play this. It should either be playable without the headset or the headset should include permanent access to the games. That said, this is both a hilariously random announcement and a genuinely exciting one because I kind of want to play VB Wario Land.

Edit: Just occurred to me this might work with Labo VR, which would save me a bit of money

Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?

Dogorilla

Glad I held off on this game for now; after starting Shadow Labyrinth recently before being put off by its difficulty, I don't really fancy another hair-tearing Metroidvania right now. I'll certainly pick it up when I am in the mood for that kind of thing, and I expect I'll appreciate the effects of the upcoming patch when I do.

Re: Talking Point: Would Drag x Drive Be Better With Miis Or Non-Mouse Control Options?

Dogorilla

With the usual caveat that I haven't played the game - yes, Miis would be a good way to add a bit of personality, although in an ideal world it would have Arms-style original characters with unique abilities and personalities. But for me the biggest way to improve it would probably be adding more varied stages and objectives, even a story mode if possible (I know it's a low-budget game).

The issue of control options is a tough one... It's clearly designed around mouse controls and that's how I would want to play it (the unusual control scheme is the main reason I'm still interested in the game despite the lukewarm reception, I love stuff like that), but it's definitely unfortunate that a game based around wheelchair basketball is so inaccessible to players with certain disabilities. More options is generally a good thing.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (30th August)

Dogorilla

I have a fair few games on my Switch I haven't played much or at all, from that time when Qubic Games gave away a bunch of their games for free and a couple of other publishers joined in. Earlier this week I decided to make a start on one of those, a survival game called Soul Searching. It's fairly simplistic but relaxing so far and I'm intrigued to see where it goes next, so I'll try and make some progress on that this weekend. I'll also have a go at the Sonic Racing network test in between catching Pokemon to fill up the Legends: Arceus 'dex.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (23rd August)

Dogorilla

I've given up on Shadow Labyrinth for now after getting my rear end handed to me one too many times by a particularly frustrating boss. Instead I'm finally heading back to Hisui to complete the Pokedex in Legends: Arceus, which is considerably more relaxing despite the occasional giant angry Infernape.

@HammerGalladeBro Happy birthday!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (2nd August)

Dogorilla

I'm playing Shadow Labyrinth, which so far is a solid if surprisingly difficult game. The sparsity of checkpoints is frustrating and I wish Pac-Man (the game doesn't call him Pac-Man but he's obviously Pac-Man) was a more helpful companion, although I'm not very far in so hopefully I'll unlock some more abilities for him.

I also need to renew my Switch Online so I can play this weekend's Tetris 99 event (FOMO sells, as it turns out), and I'm thinking it's about time I finally upgrade to the expansion pack. If I do decide to bite the bullet on that I'll probably be trying out some N64 games this weekend too.

Re: SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans Of The Tide Brings A Ghostly Adventure To Switch 2 This November

Dogorilla

I was a bit surprised at first that this isn't coming to Switch 1, but after watching the trailer it makes sense - you'd need the power fo the Switch 2 to render photorealistic David Hasselhoff

All jokes aside, that was a great trailer and the game looks fun. It's kind of weird that SpongeBob has become one of the only franchises consistently releasing 3D platformers, but I'll take it

Re: Feature: Nintendo Partner Direct Predictions - What Do You Expect To See?

Dogorilla

A release date for Professor Layton seems fairly likely, and that's one of the games I'm most looking forward to. I don't know much about UFO 50 but I've heard good things and would love to see it on Switch. And this isn't the first time I've said this but one of my most wanted ports is Psychonauts 2, so if Microsoft feels like throwing us a few Xbox-published games I'd be very happy with that one (and the original Psychonauts while they're at it; I've played it before but it's one of those increasingly rare multiplatform classics that's never been on a Nintendo console).
