Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th December)

Dogorilla

I've been a bit short on time recently, so I've had to watch more than one person on my friend list sail past the 150-hour mark in Pokémon Legends Z-A (how much is there to do in this game?!) while my own save file sits at a paltry 10 hours. I've got no plans this weekend though, so I should be able to put some time into rising the ranks of the Royale.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil 2 Job Listing Shows There's Signs Of Life In The Old Hog Yet

There may still be life in the old hog, but it's well past its prime if that thumbnail is anything to go by...

I mean, I loved Beyond Good and Evil and wouldn't be at all opposed to a sequel, but I can't say I'm interested in the always-online, over-realistic, look-how-edgy-we-are-the-monkey-is-saying-rude-words-and-everything vision of it that we saw at E3 2017. But who knows what's going on with it at this point, maybe they'll have changed course entirely.

@UltimateOtaku91 @JohnnyMind I'm with you on Pokemon - there are perfectly valid criticisms to be made of the recent installments but a lack of innovation isn't one. I did think the series was getting a bit stale in the early Switch era after Let's Go and Sword/Shield played things fairly safe, but since then the Legends games and Scarlet/Violet have experimented a lot more with the gameplay and narrative structure - we've had open worlds, real-time catching, different battle systems, an ancient past setting and a fully urban setting.

The other complaint often levelled at modern Pokemon is the graphics and performance, which is fair, but Z-A is a good step up from Scarlet/Violet in that regard, even on Switch 1 where I'm playing it. There's some dodgy textures up close, sure, but I think some people have just decided to hate the game without giving it a chance - not accusing the letter writer of that as they clearly have played the game, but I noticed the Switch 1 version has an average rating of 5.6/10 on this site and I have to wonder how many people have given it low ratings without even playing it...

@benmalsky198 I don't really like keeping up with these online games with limited-time events and FOMO unlocks, which is why I probably won't return to Fortnite any time soon, but it was fun from what I played of it years ago and I do get the appeal of the big crossover element you're talking about. I remember playing it during an Avengers event and just making Thanos dance was really funny to me.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

Dogorilla

I voted for Switch 1 version, then remembered I actually ordered the Switch 2 version because it's cross-compatible with the original Switch (I don't have a S2 yet). Anyway, I'm not sure whether I'll like this game as much as Arceus but I'm looking forward to finding out!

Re: Avatar: The Last Airbender Is Getting Its Very Own Switch 2 Fighter Next Year

Dogorilla

Not sure I understand the comments about it looking cheap. Obviously it's not TV-level animation but it's only pre-alpha footage, and even then it captures the style of the cartoon better than any other Avatar game I've seen. I'm not the biggest fan of fighting games (and the DLC release model for many of them doesn't help) but I'd probably be up for giving this a go.

I'm still aiming to wrap up the Pokedex in Legends Arceus before Z-A comes out (just catching everything for now, I won't have time to get 100% research) - I've been struggling to fit in much gaming time but I think I'm nearly there now!

I also had a quick go at Bubsy on NSO yesterday. Don't think I'll play that again.

Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?

Dogorilla

Only one every few months at most if we're talking about newly released full-price games, but I pick up discounted older games (on the eShop or physically) a bit more often. Even then I don't feel like I buy loads, but I do have quite a lot of games when you add them all up...

Re: Review: Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Switch) - Still Out Of This World

Dogorilla

Personally I'm glad the new content is minimal - I'm quite happy to stick with the Wii versions, so I'm glad I'm not missing out on any new levels or anything (I still haven't played Bowser's Fury, as much as I'd like to, because it didn't seem worth paying full price for that package when I already have 3D World on Wii U).

I think relatively straightforward ports/remasters like this are the way to go for most games: it gives easy access to them for anyone who hasn't played them before, and people who have played them don't need to buy them again, so everyone is happy! Right, guys?
