Re: Memory Pak: Making New Memories With Earthbound In 2022

Dogorilla

It's interesting seeing how many people have got into Earthbound in recent years and loved it, because I played it for the first time on the SNES Mini and thought it was a decent enough game that was probably clever and unique for its time, but nothing special nowadays. Makes me feel like I'm missing out on something, but I guess everyone has at least one universally beloved game that they thought was just alright, so I can live with that.

Re: Memory Pak: My First Killing Game - 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

Dogorilla

@AJWolfTill We may be thinking of different characters, because the one I'm talking about didn't die in the first game at least. I would say you should probably use spoiler tags for that first paragraph, but I'm not actually sure what character you mean even though I've played the game, lol.

I agree that scene is in poor taste as well. I didn't actually see it when I played the game (I think you had to obtained a particular item to trigger it?) but I was told about it. If I remember right there were also a few comments made throughout the game about the size of Hina's breasts, which made me a bit uncomfortable too as she's a teenager.

@JasmineDragon I've only played the first Danganronpa game but another issue I have with it is a character with a particular mental health condition. It's not something I know a lot about but I think the portrayal of it in the game is unrealistic and possibly offensive to people with the condition. That's probably not an issue that would put you off playing the game though, it's just something to be aware of.

Re: Memory Pak: My First Killing Game - 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

Dogorilla

I dunno, I like mystery stories but I can't stand excessive violence so I usually stay clear of this kind of game. That said, I did play the first Danganronpa because of its similarities to Ace Attorney, and I could just about cope with the deaths (and the various, er, dodgy aspects) and ultimately enjoyed it for the murder mystery side of things. I think it helped that it had a sense of humour and that the blood was pink. So I might like some other similar games as long as they're not too grim.

(I have also played The World Ends With You but I can't remember a thing about its story. I don't think it was as dark or depressing though.)

Re: Feature: Which Is The Absolute Best Nintendo Console Generation?

Dogorilla

I went for Wii and DS, with Wii U and 3DS a close second for the reasons @CharlieGirl described. The games and hardware Nintendo released in those two generations felt more playful, experimental and just plain fun than anything before or since. Which is an opinion that almost certainly comes from nostalgia bias on my part as a Gen Z, but that's probably true for most people's favourite consoles.

Re: Soapbox: Chrono Cross Really Deserves To Come To Switch Before Chrono Trigger

Dogorilla

@TheRedComet Ah, that's two replies giving opposite advice. I thought this might happen
Well, we'll see how long it take Chrono Trigger to come to Switch. My instinct is to play it first as it's the older game, but if it gets to the point where I really want to start playing the series and Trigger still isn't on Switch then I'll just start with Cross. Shame the DS version is so expensive (I don't really want to play it on PC or mobile).

Re: Kit And Krysta Reveal Their Least Favourite Mario And Zelda Games

Dogorilla

Their worst Mario choices are interesting because those two games are practically polar opposites. Mario Sunshine is very weird and experimental and almost nothing like the rest of the series, whereas NSMB2 is very traditional and lacking in innovation. Personally I'd take the latter over Sunshine any day - I admire Sunshine's ambition and creativity but it hasn't aged well at all.

Twilight Princess is one of my favourite Zelda games but I haven't played Majora's Mask yet. I'm not sure what my least favourite Zelda would be, maybe one of the NES ones but that's a little unfair as I've never made much progress in either of them. Restricting it to games I've actually finished I'd probably have to say Spirit Tracks, but it's still a very good game.

Re: Shin'en Kicks Off 'Everything Must Go' 3DS And Wii U eShop Sale, Up To 80% Off

Dogorilla

Nano Assault EX on 3DS was good, I'll make sure to buy its Wii U sequel in this sale. I'm interested in Fast Racing and Art of Balance too but they're on Switch so I'll get them on there another time.

Good to see Shin'en is doing this, I hope more publishers follow suit. They don't necessarily need to, as the impending shutdown means people are more likely to buy eShop games soon anyway (which I'm sure Nintendo is fully aware of and will keep all their games at full price, annoyingly) but it's a nice gesture and sales make it easier for people to afford everything they want.

Re: Poll: The End Is Coming, But How Much Will You Miss The Wii U And 3DS eShop?

Dogorilla

Really disappointing news, I still use both consoles and there are a lot of games I've yet to buy on the eShop. So many games will be completely inaccessible after this shutdown, especially ones that make a lot of use of the Wii U and 3DS's unique features and control schemes, which will make them nearly impossible to port to Switch or anything else.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Journeys Is Like The Original Series, But 151 Times Better

Dogorilla

I might give this a go actually. I do think cartoons that run for decades should allow the characters to age and then pass the lead role onto new generations of characters, but it's good to hear Pokemon is still staying relatively fresh despite that. I suppose the fact that Ash's companions (human and Pokemon) change every few years probably helps, it's only really Ash and Pikachu themselves that stay the same. Very sad to hear Snom isn't more prominent (Snominent?) though.
