I think this update actually made the game worse. Character models look slightly better, but loading times increased and fatalities now perform in slow motion and out of sync with the audio. Also, battle xp and currency gains seem to have been reduced.
I’m not surprised Sonic Superstars isn’t able to do multiplayer well. Split screen is the only way something like that could have worked well in a Sonic game.
This patch helped a lot, in terms of graphics, glitches, and content. Loading times are still pretty long and the game occasionally becomes a stuttering mess, though.
@5th313ment I have been having it happen without my Switch even going to sleep. I did find, though, that so long as I don’t actually pause the game, I can leave my character idling and not have the game crash. There is just something in particular about pausing that crashes the game.
One thing to note is that this game currently crashes quite a bit. It seems more likely to happen if you pause the game for a few minutes. Almost every time I left the room to get a drink or let the dog out, I came back to a “system error, software closed” message.
@-wc- depending on your stance, the gameplay can feel weightless in this game. Also, I am hesitant to even call it a musou game. When combat does happen, you are largely trapped in a square arena and have to fight one damage sponge version of the normal bad guys and then 6 - 12 regular henchmen that die easily.
Having put roughly 24 hours into this title, in my opinion, a 7/10 is an appropriate score.
I wonder what it could mean by “ Quests and events that occur for the first time in the second and subsequent playthroughs of the game.” Do you need to beat the game multiple times to unlock the full story, similar to Nier Automata?
I’m still trying to figure out how they supposedly got Borderlands 3 to run on the Switch while only requiring 6.6 GB (file size according to the eshop).
@Serpenterror Radiant Historia definitely needs a re-rerelease on the Switch. The 3DS rerelease came out too close to the end of the 3DS’ lifespan to get much attention. As for the original DS version, no idea why it didn’t get the attention that it deserved.
I remember playing the first one on the GameCube and having trouble getting invested in it. Maybe I will give the collection another shot, once it goes on sale. For now Mon-Yu and Legend of Nayuta are keeping me plenty entertained.
This is a game that I really wanted to like, but just wasn’t able to get into. Here’s to hoping that we can get another Evil Dead single player budget title after this. We haven’t had one of those since the PS2/Xbox days.
Having played it quite a bit over the weekend, 4/10 seems overly harsh. Even though I am annoyed at the price, the random performance issues, and the lack of Invasions mode, I would say this is a 6/10 (6.5/10 if I’m being generous) minimum. Once Invasions mode is added, then it will be at least a 7.5/10.
@Dm9982 it is only missing in the Switch version, sadly. Worst part is that Invasions mode seems to be the fastest way to obtain koins. I tried increasing the difficulty in towers for a better payout, but it didn’t help much. Waiting until invasion mode is completely patched in before I go back to the game.
@Dm9982 Prepare to be disappointed with Invasion mode. It is quite a bit of fun. However, the Switch version is unfinished. You get so far in Johnny Cage’s Mansion and then the next node says “To be continued.” The support page for the game says that they hope to have Invasion mode available for Switch players in a matter of weeks, no specific date given.
@Mirage-5x5 Welcome! And, yeah, the PS5 is definitely the way to go. The Switch version doesn’t even have a fully functioning invasions mode. You get so far in Johnny Cage’s mansion and it randomly goes “To be continued” when you try to select the next node.
FYI, I read online that you need about 115 GB to instal Mortal Kombat 1 for the PS5.
@Mirage-5x5 and @LikelySatan I think a lot of it is missing from the cartridge. I own it physically and still had to download roughly 30 GB. To put that into perspective, I think the download size on the eshop is 36 GB.
@DennisReynolds it’s passable. Overall I’m enjoying it, but it definitely has its issues. If you can get it on PS5 or Xbox, though, you should definitely go that route.
@DennisReynolds I got my copy last night, playing it this morning (30 GB download with physical). Graphically, it is better than MK11, but it is jarring going from cutscene graphics to fighting graphics in story mode. Also, moments before fatalities and when the battles first start, the characters will become fuzzy for a split second. In more graphically demanding arenas with characters like Kenshi and Rain, their outfits will look a bit more plastic and character models will lose details but the gameplay will remain solid. Fatalities take a second to load, so characters will stand there doing nothing for a couple of seconds, after successfully inputting a fatality. The game loads just fine for the most part. The screen sometimes tears in story mode during cutscenes when they first start. Most annoying is the character select screen. The cursor will be stuck on each character portrait for two to three seconds as the game tries to quickly load an image of the fighter. Also, despite WB Support saying Invasions wouldn’t be available for the Switch at launch, I can say that at least a few levels are available in Johnny Cage’s mansion. I’ve been mainly trying out the different modes, so I am unsure if the full Johnny Cage invasion level is present.
Worst performance so far: the action sequence that happens whenever you beat a tower and pulverize the final boss. The graphics and performance nosedive during that short beatdown scene. It looks awful and characters move as if they are in slow motion. Sound is also out of sync with the animations.
@LikelySatan Switch players are already screwed over. Invasions mode won’t be ready on the Switch until an unspecified date weeks out, according to the game’s support page.
@stinkyx I thought it actually looked better. Even without the day one patch, Mortal Kombat 1 for the Switch doesn’t appear to have that weird hair glitch that was found in MK11 whenever you did a fatality or X-Ray attack.
Not surprising. A lot of people weren’t happy in the new direction that they took Saints Row. Rather than listen to fan feedback, they trolled people online and acted like the fans were idiots.

Grabbing this and Super Mario RPG that same day. I figure I’ll burn through Mario RPG and then get to this during the following week.
Re: Random: Players Share Bananas Gameplay Of New King Kong Game, And It's Not Looking Good
It still looks like it plays better than the GameMill Avatar game. I had very low expectations for that title, but I should have gone even lower.
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Shares "First Look" At The Kombat Pack DLC Fighter Omni-Man
Hopefully he gets released on Switch the same day as Xbox and PS5. FYI, the latest patch dramatically improved the Switch version.

Considering Famitsu gave Balan Wonderworld a 30/40, Sonic receiving a 32/40 isn’t a ringing endorsement.

@5th313ment Switch version, OLED model. I believe it is primarily on an SD card, although I think the save file is on the internal memory.
