@Kraven I wasn’t that excited until I finally played the demo tonight. I think in terms of gameplay it is probably going to be my favourite. The new stories aren’t tied to just one character so they seem more like a real story.
It’s weird because the battle loop for this game is a ton of fun. But my goodness the NPCs are rough. I don’t even need voice acting but the whole character hand over items by placing empty hands near one another thing is so jarring.
And yeah for some resson thr NPCs can’t even at least put their habdsnin their pockets or lean against a building. They all are alays in the same pose just frozen. The samey building structure doesn’t bother me that much. But the NPCs could at least stand, sit, walk around a bit, talk on their phones.
I’ve bought a stupid number of Switch 1 games. Mostly I play first party Nintendo games, turn based RPGs, indies and some other random ones. But so far the only Switch 2 exclusive I own is Mario Kart World. As it stands there’s so many games in my back log that I haven’t played at all yet. I’ll definitely buy some Seitxh 2 third party titles but a lot of those are gonna be when they go on sale.
Still seems so weird to me that they released Wind Waker’s GC version on Switch online rather than the HD remaster which I have to imagine could have fairly easily been ported to Switch.
Give me RPG Maker HD2D! Seriously though 2D turn based RPGs are so fun and this style embraces the history of those. Not every game needs to look realistic.
@Mauzuri honestly the score is the weakest part of this game. Not saying it's bad. I'm just saying everything else is amazing and the score is just pretty dang good. If you enjoyed Chrono Trigger, I promise you'll like this game. I'm a good 15 hours in and... this is probably the most fun I've had with a turn based RPG in years. And I just finished Octopath 2 which a lot of people say is great (and I did have a lot of fun with that one) but this one honestly is just really dang fun and the mixture of story beats with action is really balanced IMO.
@Otoemetry just buy it now dude. The game is bloody awesome! It feels like Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, Golden Sun, and Link to the Past, had 'happy times' while Chrono Cross and Secret of Mana and some other games watched on, and then this just happened 9 months later.
The battle system is so fun, the world feels so cozy, it does a great job of having bits of exposition but without every feeling like you just want to skip the story beats because they're taking too long. (Looking at you Octopath, I love you, but the fact that you had to make all of your dialogue completely skippable because you guys just couldn't rework your dialogue to be 300% more beif is a crime.)
I'm probably a good 15 or more hours in at this point and I'm just bloody loving it. Not many games ever make me legit laugh out loud. But there is one pirate character who keeps just catching me off guard with dialogue that is probably making my neighbours wonder what I"m laughing at.
@Phostachio dude if you want a game that will give you good feels, check out Sea of Stars. There’s this one pirate character who has made me involuntarily laugh out loud repeatedly.
I’m loving the booster course pass. As a Canadian I’m looking forward to the Vancouver track. Most of these courses look like they’re gonna be super fun.
Insider trading is one of those things that is definitely illegal but almost never prosecuted. Half of the American congress leave office with their wealth increased by an order of magnitude just because there’s no laws against insider trading for them.
I’m hopeful for this game is good. Though seeing it look really pretty is nice, seeing it look pretty but hearing they worked on Balan… it makes me scared for the controls. Sonic games live and die based on their control, and that’s what made Mania so great.
That said I think Sega burned their bridges with all the Mania devs. They built the best sonic game since 3K, but Sega Japan was just too Japanese about things. I suspect many internal devs resented the praise the game got. Add to that that Sega apparently pushed the game out before it was good enough.
That’s super unfortunate Christian Whitehead and Headcannon did a fantastic job. Sega’s managers should have been focused on keeping their talent happy. Instead it sounds like they acted like the western devs were lucky to be working with them, not the other way around.
Honestly love the game but grinding is my least favourite part. I see using the duplication glitch is the same as using YouTube videos to figure out shrine puzzles. Like will I watch them beforehand? No. But am I going to waste three hours on a shrine when I only have a few hours to play each night? No.
I’d you’re a purist, fine. But most of this armour I fully upgraded last game, I see no reason I should t speed through what I’ve already done before.
@Anti-Matter if it’s anything like 3 it’ll hold your hand at the beginning of Story Mode. In 3 the story mode is channeling but certainly not hard. You can do a higher difficulty mode. Also there are challenges that require you to basically master the game’s mechanisms and you’ll only beat them after multiple runs.
It’s important to remember nintendo does a lot of tricks to keep file sizes down that other AAA games don’t use. IE smaller textures, reusing some elements and models with effects done to them that cause them to look significantly different in different contexts.
Realistically 3D models often don’t take that much space. And if you reuse a lot of the same textures and just change the hue of them, you can often do a lot with surprisingly little space.
Not sure if you reviewed The Wild at Heart. It’s a super cute Pikmin X Link to the Past type indie game. Heard about it via Arlo and absolutely loved playing it.
@Tasuki because if a movie is well received and makes money, it gets a sequel. Also Illumination did all the work on the characters and art assets. You can believe they wanna bring them back for a sequel.
All these people complaining about drip feeding games don’t realize how marketing and release calendars work.
With this you release a range of games across genres you give something for most demographics but you don’t give anything because of you blow your load at the start then people complain there’s nothing new even though they don’t play nearly as many games as if they’re drip fed.
Also when you have 100s of options you’ll spend way more time trying to figure out what to play than if you have ten options. As the catalogue gets bigger people will natural play the earlier games but will be excited when a game they want is released by itself.
Basically you’re mad Nintendo isn’t making you miserable.
If these would have come out at launch I probably would have scooped up at least FF6. But given the fact that the initial excitement has worn off I’ll probably wait until Square puts them up for like 30 or 50 percent off. Switch games go on sale so much it just doesn’t make sense for me to buy full price.
The game mays be buggy as hell and a lot of things are not just half baked but practically raw. At the same time though, this is the most fun I’ve had playing a Pokémon game in a long time. If they would have had this merged with the catching mechanics of Arceus I’d have said it was the perfect Pokémon.
The titans, team star and gyms finally actually give us a variety of tasks each involving the different types.
All in all it may be janky but it’s fun. I just wish they had a better engine to run the game in.
Man I wish the company I work for had policies like this. We offer fantastic customer service and most of my customers are great, and we can hang up on excessively rude customers. But I really wish that A) there was a system to prevent abusive customers from being able to rate us (which affects pay) and B) I’d absolutely love to tell argumentative jerks who want a new phone because they never learned how to use their existing phone, that since they’ve been so rude their warranty is now void.
Honestly I was iffy about the Tour tracks at first but they’ve probably been my biggest favourites.
It’s funny to hear people complaining about the City courses as if Mario Kart hadn’t had courses like Toad’s Turnpike for a long time.
I will say that some of the City tracks are quite turn heavy, and given that the routes change (especially Sidney Sprint) they can be more difficult to adjust to. But that’s actually part of what makes me like them. Courses like Mount Wario were always my favourites.
It’s funny I played the SNES and N64 versions and saw myself as not having missed that much by skipping the GC and Wii Versions. But almost all the tracks people are excited for I’ve never heard of.
Honestly I’m really enjoying the Tour tracks a lot. Though part of me hopes (and knows this won’t happen) that they’ll release some version mode that allows you to play courses by theme. I’d love to play all the tour city tracks back to back without having to select them.
Glad the cars are moving, never played Mario Kart Wii much (tried at a friend’s house, I was very bad at tilt controls.) but they did feel kinda boring in wave 1.
That said I wish they’d bring back mega evolution. That was by far the best gimmic. Though instead of making it a gimmic just let me evolve a Blastoise to a mega permanently.
Man, given that Square and Nintendo are so tight these days. I wish that meant they were going to reboot or remaster or rebuild this game. The timed attacks were so good at making every other turn based RPG just feel not as good. To this day I still press a button to defend in turn based RPGs even though I know full well it won’t do anything.
I understand that localizing a game isn’t cheap. But for games like this that seem to have really found an audience in Japan I wish Nintendo did give a few interns the tools to localize it.
Honestly, sometimes after a bad experience, even if you can’t share all the details you want to talk about it. And often when you’re part of something that was a mess, sometimes it feels really good to say, “I was stuck there but I knew full well the emperor had no clothes.”
@Truegamer79 sure but the cockpit view doesn’t show you if your wings are going to hit anything. It was ultimately a bad control system that happened because someone (probably SM) didn’t want to listen to people.
