Re: Dream Daddy Arrives On The Switch eShop At The Start Of Next Month

DavidMac

For those asking if playing a game with a dating sim element to it might change one's sexuality, the obvious answer is, if that the vast majority of gay men would have been turned straight as children because they've constantly been exposed to heterosexual relationship material in games, movies, etc.

That said if you do play the game and start wondering, congrats you've discovered that you're at least somewhat bisexual.

Re: Rumour: New Nvidia Shield TV Could Share The Same Chipset As The Upgraded Switch

DavidMac

It’s so weird that people are acting like this is impossible. Apple releases new A series chips every year. Intel... okay well they’re not releasing chips that often these days... but thenprocessor industry, especially related to ARM chips moves quite fast. Apple already had an A12X chip in the iPad Pro that’s been out for almost a year that’s about as powerful as an Xbox One S. Nvidea can’t be that far behind Apple. Nintendo would be wise to release a Switch with enough power to compare to an Xbox one or PS4. And frankly the chips should be getting pretty close power wise.

They could also release both a new Switch as well as a dock for at home that allows you to connect you Switch and play beefier games at higher graphic settings in the TV but still keep your switch for on the go.

Realistically I suspect they’ll do a Switch mini with a lower power and slightly beefier chip sooner. And then after the first year of the PS5 and Scarlett they can launch a backward compatible Switch 2.

They’ll probably go the same route as the other console vendors did last time where new games will run on both but look best on the newer one. That way nobody feels like they’re being forced to upgrade.

Re: Nintendo "Looking" At Game Streaming But Is Focused On "Seamless" Play Experiences For Now

DavidMac

Don’t worry, Nintendo will have more to say on that front when they release a switch with a built in 5G modem. (Not this year, 5G still had terrible battery life.)

Realistically they could sell games that play okay without an internet connection but then stream a beefier version if you have internet. Sounds messy though. The good thing about streaming being a thing is that at that point a Switch with good Wifi is just as powerful as an Xbox or PlayStation.

Re: Talented Artist Recreates Red And Blue Starter Evolutions As Different Pokémon Types

DavidMac

Those are pretty great, I doubt we'll get anything like those in Sword and Shield. Which is a shame, I loved the Allolan forms. I'm not sure what the Pokemon from 'Not the UK' Region are gonna look like, but I'm kinda expecting it to be pretty bland (like the UK).

They should do a Pokemon version in Canada. For half the year it can be filled with ice Pokemon, and you die as soon as you step foot outside. And for the other half of the year it could be mostly fire/bug type Pokemon. Oh, and 25% of the Pokemon would speak French and be inexplicably rude. Oh and any Pokemon out west would be Oil type, and they'd have have four different moves named things, but when you select any move they'd just choose to explode instead while whining about how it's all Ottawa's fault.

(Sorry, I've been reading the comments section on CBC.)

Re: It's Official, The New Game Style In Super Mario Maker 2 Is Based On 3D World

DavidMac

@BensonUii If they did do it as a Deluxe version it could be really cool to add Daisy and Toadette as options. With them you could have your own 'A-Force' moment using Peach, Rosalina, Daisy and Toadette haha. I would also love to see them add Wario and Waluigi as playable characters. (Actually I'd love to see more options added for playable characters to Mario Maker but I don't think that'll happen.)

Re: Will Nintendo Add More Game Styles To Super Mario Maker 2?

DavidMac

In terms of other games I could see SM2 working (though I'd really want to be able to play as Peach or Luigi!)

As far as what I haven't seen from this one that I'm genuinely bummed I haven't (because it seems obvious) is the inclusion of both boomerang bros and a boomerang bro suit, a hammer bros suit, frog suit and tanooki suit. (Though that one hopefully will be in 3D world) There is also no Penguin suit. I'd LOVE to see it if they added the power ups to one style.

I saw that somebody mentioned All Stars and I'd be totally down with that. Either ape the style of the original SNES All Stars, or remake them using 3D models and stuff but looking like all stars and then add in like ... EVERYTHING. I doubt they will... still. I'd love to be able to switch from Cape to Racoon to Flying Squirrel, to Rabbit Ear Mario. That would make my nostalgic heart burst.

Re: Takashi Iizuka Believes The Blue Blur Has "Turned A Corner" Following The Release Of Sonic Mania

DavidMac

Sonic’s level design philosophy of multiple branching paths toward a final end really only works in 2D. In 3D it would get way too complicated and feel super confusing to navigate. Not to mention. A single play through would then only have the player moving through a fraction of the game world.

Mario 64 and Breathe of the Wild both proved that you can take a person that moves at reasonable speed and throw them into a 3D environment and it’s fun. But if you have your character moving super fast you either need to slow them down regularly or make the world largely flat and lacking in detail.

Sega should look into locking Christian Whitehead into a contract and have him pump out awesome 2D sonic games and rename Sonic Team and have them work on other franchises.

Re: JRPG Earthlock Is The Latest To Receive A Super Rare Games Physical Release On Switch

DavidMac

I kickstarted the game when it was going to be one of the rare RPGs on the Wii U (and they did release a version for the Wii U) playing it on Switch, the game kind of felt like it was the first act of a bigger story. Probably due to them having a bigger plot than they had time and resources for.

I feel like I will buy the sequel if it ever gets made. It is fun but keep in mind when you play it that it was an indie RPG made by some people with big dreams. In a lot of ways it feels like a really good looking PSone RPG. If you look at it that way then it can be really fun.

Also it has some combat mechanics/experience scaling stuff that was genuinely unique.

Re: Super Mario Maker 2 Launches For Switch On 28th June

DavidMac

Also I suspect that if there isn't a direct until E3 then that means that they're going to spend a whole bunch of time at E3 focused on Mario Maker. Which makes sense, they did a a great job hyping the first version and getting a ton of people tuning in for those crazy Mario Maker moments in the World Championships. Also I'm not sure but I feel like Mario Maker really blew up the Mario Speed Running community and resulted in some people who are flat out fantastic with all the mechanics. So it'd be cool if they had people like Dram55 and Ryukar and other streamers. I know GDQ did a really hilarious relay race of insane Kaizo type levels and it was incredibly fun to watch. If Nintendo did something like that during E3 they'd probably win the internet. Though they'd have to make sure that the speed runners weren't on a live mic because it's Nintendo and I'm sure anything entertaining Mario Makerwise is going to elicit a lot of fuzz from the runners.

I'm still hoping that I can make boomerang bros, fire bros, ice bros, and sumo bros (the ones from SMW). Don't ask me why, but for some reason not being able to put a boomerang bro into Mario Maker kind of killed it for me.

I also didn't love how I had to wait several days to unlock all the content. I could see people building cool things on the internet and I wasn't able to use the same tools because I hadn't been playing the game every day (I'm an adult, I have things to do... like make comments on a website that focuses on news about a kids toy). It'd be one thing if they had content unlock daily for EVERYBODY as a cool thing for the first few days of the game being out. But being rewarded with content I'd already paid for every day got annoying since I wasn't doing anything to earn it.

Re: Super Mario Maker 2 Launches For Switch On 28th June

DavidMac

For people complaining that there aren't a ton of Nintendo First Party releases in the first half of this year, REMEMBER LAST YEAR? We got Bayo 1&2, Captain Toad, Tropical Freeze and Hyrule Warriors. This year? We got Mario U. It's all your fault! There are still some fantastic Wii U games that could be ported (3D World, Pikmin 3, and both Zelda HD remakes)but they didn't fill in any of the gaps with them because way too many people whined about that last year!

Re: Rumour: This Year's 'Budget' Switch Could Take The 2DS Route And Ditch A Killer Feature

DavidMac

@elpardo1984 also as far as right to disagree. I would encourage you to listen more than you speak. I realize that in today’s ‘climate’ where disagreement even when the person knows their wrong is held as some sort of backward wisdom. You’ll always look smarter if you listen and weigh arguments, and then ask questions not with the goal of proving someone right or wrong, but with finding the truth.

There is no virtue in disagreeing with someone who is speaking the truth.

Re: Rumour: This Year's 'Budget' Switch Could Take The 2DS Route And Ditch A Killer Feature

DavidMac

@elpardo1984 but you’re not going to sell someone who has a Switch or a future Pro one a mini. Also if the mini and the Pro come out together TV play won’t be a distinguishing factor. It’ll be resolution. And the difference in cost for Nintendo on the USB controller won’t be in the dollars it’ll be in the cents. One sale of a 30 dollar add in cable per hundred would still make it worth their while to include TV out.

Re: Rumour: This Year's 'Budget' Switch Could Take The 2DS Route And Ditch A Killer Feature

DavidMac

They could also flip the script and go the opposite route. IE sell a box with whatever they replace the X1 Processor with, with a slot for games (they could even have it top load like the SNES) put rails on the box to charge a pair (or two) of joycons, take out the screen and the battery and put an HDMI port right on the box. Suddenly manufacturing is way easier and it allows users to play any games designed around TV play.

Re: Rumour: This Year's 'Budget' Switch Could Take The 2DS Route And Ditch A Killer Feature

DavidMac

There's absolutely no reason to "remove the ability to connect to a TV" that won't save costs. They could ditch the dock and only include a charger (or go super cheap and not include a charger) but they'd still leave in the ability to go USB C to HDMI. There would be no reason for them to take out that ability, if anything it would cost them more. My guess is that they'll go with a die shrunk version of the X1 for the mini Switch and not bundle a dock but also sell a cable that lets you connect your power adapter and the cable to the Switch, and then you can play externally with Joycons, Pro Controllers or a GameCube adapter.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Releasing Two New Versions Of Switch This Year

DavidMac

I"m really hoping that in addition to the "Switch Pro" they might also do a "Switch Dock Pro" or even a "Switch Box" that is a stand alone set top box that is non portable but has whatever beefed up processor will be in the new Switch. It would allow you to dock your Switch in it and take your games on the go, while allowing you to play newer games that may perform better with the new hardware. It would also work well for people who just want to leave their Switch at home and don't need it portable.

Re: Box Office Analysts Expect Big Things From Detective Pikachu

DavidMac

There aren't a lot of series I go see in theatres. Mostly just the Marvel movies (though I did go see Star Wars 7 and 8 and will probably end up seeing 9 in theatres) I've often seen Pixar movies in theatres, but I haven't gone to the last few.

But I'm totally going to see Detective Pikachu. Huge on Ryan Reynolds involvement. Plus those creepy assed lifelike pokemon are just insane to look at! It looks like it's basically going to be Deadpool with pokemon and I'm totally down for that!

Re: Rumour: New Persona 5 Trailer Connected To Recent Smash Bros. Ultimate Datamine

DavidMac

If Jane is another character I’m really hoping she’s from another series. It would be super weird for Persona to get TWO slots on the DLC.

I suspect the second DLC fighter announced is going to be the Dragon Quest hero and they’ll time it with the Switch release of DQ11. That’s said they’d better come out with all of these this year! I’m really hoping that we don’t have to wait for more than a year for all the characters I paid for.

That being said, I’d gladly pay for another DLC fighter pack once this one is done.

Re: Switch Controllers Are Getting Google Chrome Support

DavidMac

Google doesn't get hardware. The Pixelbook, Pixel C, the Pixel Buds, etc. Google gets by by having a good search engine, an intrusive ad network, a terrible by cheap phone platform that gets extended to their partners tablets, and an interesting computer OS that's designed with the idea that a consumption device shouldn't be able to expand to do something great.

Overall they're an awful company with a lot of smart people actively working to make the world a worse place.

Re: Rumour: Link's Awakening Might Not Be The Only Zelda Game Released In 2019

DavidMac

I’m genuinely surprised they didn’t drop Windwaker HD yet. I get that Breath of the Wild is “the Zelda” on Switch but they could have capitalized on BotW’s popularity much better than they did. They could really pad out their first party offerings with some more great Wii U ports of both the HD Zelda remasters. Heck if they’re smart after the 3DS officially stops selling they could Up-Rez the 3DS OoT and MM and resell them either as full games or on the same cart.

Re: Epic Doesn't Plan To Improve The Frame Rate In The Switch Version Of Fortnite

DavidMac

@Heavyarms55 The thing is that 4 year old iPad could be more powerful than the Switch is. Apple's ARM processors are fantastic.

The A8X chip in the iPad you're talking about is probably in a similar power range as the Switch. But Epic also is able to take advantage of Apple's Metal APIs which may give it a boost over the Tegra X1 in the Switch.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Switch but Apple's processors have been good for a long time. Plus the X1 Processor was old when Nintendo launched the Switch. Hopefully Nvidea is working on an upgrade to the X1 that will allow a beefed up version of the Switch to compete with Apple's silicon.

I'd be more than happy if Nintendo announced tomorrow that they were releasing a set of adapters that would let you use joycons or dock your iPhone or iPad with a TV and play Switch games off of those devices. They'd probably all play great.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if some day all of Nintendo's ARM games get released on iOS if their next console flopped. (Hope they don't mind you, I don't mind paying extra in order to have a console that Nintendo can make their own games on and feel in control of their destiny. But if things did go sour for them, they'd be a huge get for Apple.)

Re: Feature: Things We’d Love To See In Super Mario Maker 2 On Switch

DavidMac

Worlds would be awesome! Creating just ONE level seems fun until you're like ... oh that's all that it is. Whereas if you could publish both individual levels but also create WHOLE GAMES. Imagine how fun it would be to have somebody over and be like, "Let's play this Mario game I MADE!"

I'd love it if they also went and remade SM3 and World in Maker. Like give me the tools to make every enemy, do everything that they could in the original games. Give me rolly wheel ground, and chunks of the ground that move up and down like in Mario World.

I also really would love to see coloured Yoshies that do the whole pound, fly, and spit fire things that the originals did.

The thing is the work to create new game types like the gameboy versions would be a lot of work that wouldn't have as much pay off unless you're putting in very different movement mechanics.

I'd really love it if they had one mode with EVERY power up in it. It'd probably have to be 3D world. I also want to be able to do things like drag a cat bell onto a hammer bro and create a crazy assed cat hammer bro!

I'd also love to see Daisy and Peach as character options along with Rosalina. PLUS if they really wanted to turn the hype up to a billion they could include Wario and Waluigi as playable characters with different movement options. Wario could use his tackle animation from the Game Boy game. Waluigi could be Luigi's jump but because he's so 'crazy' have permanent ice physics!

That'd be a great way for Nintendo to both give fan service to the Waluigi fans but also troll them.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Are Already Available To Pre-Order

DavidMac

I find it funny that people are complaining that the game looks like it's made in a similar engine to the other games on 3DS. It makes a lot more sense to move the game over to Switch and improve it than to rebuild in another engine. They've added elements that would have been hard to do on 3DS like all those spinning water wheel type things. They've also clearly taken the other step of adding more complicated objects, hence all the establishing shots on the houses that look better than what the 3DS could have done. I'm not sure but they might even have a controllable camera.

Realistically the 3DS games didn't look bad, the 3DS was just woefully under res. These graphics should look good in 720p on the go, without killing the Switch's battery.

I hope I can get somebody to trade back and forth all the starters with me again so I can play through the game with all three. Those things look damned adorable!
