In just two months, Mario and friends — both old and new — will be returning to space in the sequel to Ubisoft's surprise strategy hit, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. And Nintendo has revealed that the upcoming game will be getting a Season Pass!
This probably isn't too much of a surprise, as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle also got one — which featured the excellent Donkey Kong Adventure DLC — but we're excited to see what extra quality this will bring to the table. Perhaps something Super Mario Galaxy-related? Or maybe Nintendo could throw Rayman a bone?
Not only that, but Nintendo also announced a Gold Edition. This complete version of the game will come with the Base Game, the Season Pass, and the Galactic Prestige Pack, which comes with three unique weapons that you can unlock right away.
That Season Pass art definitely looks reminiscent of Super Mario Galaxy's soundtrack covers, doesn't it?
The Gold Edition will cost $89.99, and the Season Pass will likely cost around $19.99. We'll let you know as soon as pre-orders for the Pass go live. For now, you can check what pre-order options you have right here:
Ubisoft will be attending Gamescom this week, so we might hear more about this sequel over the next few days!
Will you be grabbing the Gold Edition of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope when it launches on 20th October? Let us know!

It's Ubisoft. You should have seen this coming.
Gonna wait for a sale on this…not bc it’s unworthy, but I have not finished the first one..,
The gold edition has been available for pre-order for a good while in Europe and clearly mentioned the Season Pass.
Some bright spark came up with this idea.
I am sure the game will be worth the price day one, but I will wait a few months at least, until the gold edition is significantly cheaper.
Mario Galaxy themed extra content would be cool.
Just gonna wait for a big sale on the Gold Edition, got other stuff to play that month.
It's Ubisoft we're talking about, so should take 1-2 months at most for a sale to happen XD
Nice. The Donkey Kong DLC was pretty cool. But as with all Ubisoft titles, I’ll just wait a few months until it’s dirt cheap. Excited to eventually play it, though.
If you can coop the campaign I'm in. From day one. You listening ubisoft? I'll buy all of it if the coop is good
Idk why anyone is acting like this is news when the eShop listing has had a Gold for a while. At least in the US, anyway.
Typical gross Ubisoft DLC nonsense. If I were interested in the game, I’d wait 3 months when the gold version will be “on sale” for $19.99.
People will make comments about Ubisoft, but Nintendo is doing the exact same thing with Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
But yeah, it's hard to blame people for waiting when you know it'll be cheaper with a little bit of patience. It's why I never buy anything day one on other platforms.
Not interested the rabbids I didn't like first one so not gonna bothering second one instant skip.
@rockodoodle I did finish the first oneand its DLC, and it's absolutely worth what someone would consider full price. But the first game Gold Edition is like 25 euro's physically, and cheaper digitally I believe, and that's what I've come to consider full price, everything above what I think will be the lowest point is paid early access privilege in my eyes. I set my price, and I'm patient for them to meet it. But yeah, in this case, I'm really looking forward to it, whenever it may get there. The first game and its DLC were fantastic, I hope you'll be equally surprised by its amazing world and gameplay as I was. I'm kind of sad that it won't surprise me as much this time, I think. Unless of course if it does, then I'll be twice as surprised
There are no less than FOUR SKUs for this in Australia...
And perhaps the most maddening thing about all of this is that the so-called "gold edition" doesn't come with the Steelbook!
@AgentGuapo : One would have to be nuts to pay full price for a Ubisoft product anyway. Despite the Mario tie-in, this is destined to be dirt-cheap within a few months, just like everything else they release.
Why would I spend $30 above the $60 when I barely understand what the extra content is. Getting a few guns early is not worth it. As ScottTheWoz says, pay more so that you can hurry up and play less of the game.
For this price, i´ll pass this game next 2 years.
Ok...no Mario + Rabbids, no Advance Wars.
No new switch games for me this year. Maybe....the next Taiko no Tatsujin. I love play my current games.....My money is going to Steam games (95% of switch, playstation and xbox game library are there, MUCH cheaper..in fact Steam store has more than 100.000 games to buy).
As I like multiplayer games the most, and I don't have much fun with single player games....I'm missing out on nothing.
The games I will buy this year:
That´s it. I play 100 hours+ my games. I am very selective in my purchases.
And I already have a lot of games to play and replay. I'm not going to buy "any game" just for the sake of buying it.
Well, I'm already being called here in a Tekken 7 tournament (steam, 3000+ hours of gameplay and going)... I already won 2 today, let's see if I can get more game money heheh
I sorely miss the days when you bought a video game and that was all there was. The complete, full experience for one price. No DLC, no gambling, no NFT's, no microtransactions ...just all the effort put into one concentrated experience, no matter if it was good or bad. I get that costs go up, but I'd gladly pay extra for the unbreakable promise of a definitive experience that doesn't and will never ask for anything else from you, other than fun.
Most modern games aren't fun anymore, they're just work or gambling addiction. And I feel that's not just nostalgia talking, but maybe that's just me.
Ubisoft will do Ubisoft things I suppose. I don't mind it too much though, especially if we get another Donkey Kong Adventure-styled DLC in a year's time or so (my money would be on a Yoshi's Island-themed one)!
I don't understand the trend of announcing DLC/Season pass before a game even launches. It's like pre-announcing the game isn't finished when you are purchasing the base product and you have to pay to get the full experience. For me, this discourages me from even buying the game until it is fully complete and I can get it on sale for cheap.
While I do want to blame Ubisoft for this, it's not like Nintendo games don't release alongside season passes quite often. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 just did. The only difference is mostly aesthetic with the different versions being available on the storefront, a Ubisoft staple. But it can hardly be considered a gross scheme unless we also consider the practice as such when Nintendo does it for many of their major games.
Yet again you have given the prices in US dollars.
The regular edition has better box art than the gold edition, so I'll be buying that instead. Not like the DLC is on the cartridge anyway, so I don't see any point in buying gold edition vs. just paying for the DLC down the road if I want it.
Also... this is old news. You posted an article about it 2 months ago.

@Thoughts At least Ubisoft games have gotten cheaper over the years. Nintendo's, not even that!
Splatoon 3 has a "season pass". Nintendo called its "season pass" = dlc expansion pass for splatoon 3. But, nintendo's game will never go down in price.. and I'm not going to buy it either.
If the season pass brings Yoshi back in then I'll get it. Otherwise, I'll still wait for a big sale, which will happen anyway given it's Ubisoft.
@PBandSmelly
Indeed. Also, because it's Ubisoft, you can safely expect this to be $20 in early 2023.
@AgentGuapo what makes this game's dlc any more gross than any other dlc from any other studio
DLC is an amazing positive addition to video games.
It distributes the costs to the people willing to get every last bit out of a game's potential. Video game enthusiasts (like people who read articles and comment on them) don't often seem to get how much more value they get out of an individual game than less dedicated gamers who only see 10-30% of a game before happily moving on to something else. I think it makes sense they pay less than someone who digs in for 85-100%. DLC helps that happen.
Of course, it's more money for bigger fans who will comment on it loudly. That's a considerable trade off. Also, there are always exceptions and hidden details (and considerations for inevitable price drops like here)
Subscriptions and microtransactions could also be a positive but are more often abused thanks to generating an irrational addiction from gambling-style play rather than a more healthy return to an activity that makes you feel better/happier/satisfied.
So... go DLC!
Also, if you have the money, there is value in paying for what you like in order to support its future, even when there are ways to save money on it.
I never wait for a game to be cheaper.. but after the first one was so dirt cheap they were practically begging to give it away… I’m gonna wait for the deep sale 😂 I can’t wait!!
Yeah, I think I will pass on it for a season.
And this is why it will wait for inevitable sale in new year......greedy Ubisoft
Don't mind season passes/DLC as long as it's good. The Donkey Kong DLC was really good in Kingdom Battle, so I have no doubt the DLC here will be good too.
Yeah, sorry. But this will have to wait, and if the physical Gold Edition of Sparks of Hope is anything like the one in Kingdom Battle (the DLC contents are in a code and not in the cartridge), what's the point of even releasing it physically?
I always want the most complete physical version I can get (not counting physical contents in Special/Limited Editions), but the physical Kingdom Battle Gold Edition goes against that.
That's one thing in Nintendo's favor when they release their games + DLC physically,
the DLC tends to be in the cartridge. Examples include Snipperclips Plus, Tetris 99 and Pokémon Sword/Shield. I also remember Japan got physical versions of Splatoon 2 and Zelda BOTW with their DLCs included, but I never found out if those included the DLC in the cart or if they came in download codes.
I loved the first game. Not gonna spend $90 at launch though. I'll wait for a sale
Already pre-ordered the Gold Edition since the DLC for the first game was very good. There's a lot Ubisoft could do with this IP if Nintendo grants them the go-ahead (thinking of joining forces with other Nintendo characters like Link and Samus, each with their own abilities and weapons). DK was probably about as far as they'll stray from the core of Mario, though, I would guess. Still, a really entertaining concept that I never would have guessed could work back when the first game was announced. A little X-COM mixed in makes everything better.
I’ll buy this game in 2 years when the gold edition is $15
@Axecon Like Splatoon 3!
Man. How I miss the days of content not being locked behind a paywall and "season passes" tacked into every single game to generate more money.
What catches my attention the most is that Ubisoft is not promoting the game. It is NINTENDO ITSELF who is announcing the game. Look:
"Nintendo has revealed that the upcoming game will be getting a Season Pass!"
Not only that, but Nintendo also announced the Gold Edition.
The Gold Edition will cost $89.99
It's very much like Nintendo to put prices higher than it should.
There must be an agreement between Nintendo and Ubisoft: first 2 years = Nintendo gets 80% of the profit (game = $89), and after 2 years, Nintendo gets 30% and can ubisoft lower the price (game = U$14)? I don't think so, but it makes you think!
I don't think it's all Ubisoft's fault, because Ubisoft games are pretty cheap.
@Ralizah "People will make comments about Ubisoft, but Nintendo is doing the exact same thing with Xenoblade Chronicles 3."
The big difference is, XC3 will still be $60 when the DLC releases, and for years after that, I think XC2 is still $60 after XC3 has released, and Splatoon 2 is still $60 ahead of S3, meanwhile Ubi discounts every game about 25% a couple of months after release, 50% soon after that, and 75% by a year. So it actually is worth the wait for Ubisoft but not so much for Nintendo where it's more likely you can't find a physical version by the time they get around to lowering the price.
Nintendo day 1, Ubi day 365.
@rjejr That is, the case of Xenoblade is even worse, because prices do not go down.
I am in love with my wallet. I don't mistreat my wallet LOL
Good thing I don't like Xenoblade. But even Splatoon, I will never give $60 + $$$ expansion.
I´ll buy this Mario + Rabbids latter, but never Xenoblade and never Splatoon.
i wonder what content is gonna be featured in the season pass for Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope? a Rosalina focused story?
Nah, no Thanks.
The first Game was a big Disapointment for me personally.
No tactic at all in this "tactic Game" .
@aaronsullivan Counterpoint, DLC is great for free-to-start games so everyone can try it out for free then the people who like it can support it, but for $60 you should get the whole game. See $60 Chocobo Racing w/ it's $99 packs vs free-to-start Disney Lightstorm.
But of course "gamers" HATE free-to-start b/c they aren't real games so $60-to-start is what they deserve.

@rjejr Sure, which is why I said I can't really blame people for waiting. I generally do the same thing for the majority of non-Nintendo published stuff. Rapid price cuts just punish your biggest fans and early adopters.
But people like to snipe at Ubisoft for announcing DLC / more expensive editions pre-release, and my point is that if it doesn't bother you when Nintendo does it, it also shouldn't bother you when Ubisoft does it.
So we'll just have to wait for the complete physical edition down the line, it already happened with the first game.
To be expected from an ubisoft game lol
I'm good. I don't support Ubisift, and while the DLC for the first game was great, they aren't exactly doing well rn. I'll wait to see how that shakes out and DEFINITELY wait for a sale.
As long as the original game (without the DLC) has the content to justify full price, I don't care if there's optional content for those who want to pay more. The only other way this would bother me is if essential parts of the story where in the DLC. Not that Mario + Rabbids is exactly epic story telling. But I'm not too worried about that, the DLC in the first M+R was essentially it's own game and not part of the main one.
Should be called gold diggers ver.
I’ll probably wait for it to go on sale. I loved the first version and was so sucked in. But Ubisoft puts things on sale constantly.
Not surprising. I'll wait for the gold edition to go on sale after release and swoop it up for a good price.
This has actually put me off buying the game. Shame, I enjoyed the first, but all the dlc and gold edition nonsense ruins it. Guess I'll just wait til its super cheap.
@Fizza I'll remember this...............
I'm a bit strapped for cash right now, will buy the gold edition for 40 to 45 bucks... wish I could play it sooner though!
@Ralizah Ah, the ole' fanboi double standard hypocrisy, gotcha. Ubi does seem to take a lot of abuse, more than most from what I can tell, but I don't see it as warranted based on the company overall. Though they should abandon any pretence of ever releasing Beyond Good and Evil 2, just let it go already.

@Shambo yeah… I just have so many unplayed and unfinished games…. I would just be getting It to get it. By the time I finish the first one, it will be on sale.
@rjejr That’s not DLC then, it’s a paid game with a demo, like most games on Switch have…
I don’t like season passes just as an idea, but it wouldn’t make me not buy the game, but I probably won’t, because I’m only half done the first one.
@Silly_G
Not maddening to us who have stopped collecting plastic and tin and moved completely to digital from the eShop.
@rockodoodle
Ubisoft is notorious for discounting brand new releases only a few weeks after launch, I have been burned by them many times. That all being said this will be a gold edition digital purchase day one for me.
You rarely get the full game for $60 anymore. There is almost always cut content that they want to sell back to you. This is what acceptance of on disc DLC has brought us.
WoW Ubisoft do this Ubisoft do that bla bla bla , I loved the first game ,I love assassin’s creed games and had a lot of fun with immortals fenyx rising and yes they all get discounted very fast so I don’t understand why people are complaining about this great company at least they release games and they discount them after a couple of months not like the big N!
The last one had dlc so no surprise there. I’m going to wait for a sale, because it’s ubisoft lol.
I’ll wait for the price drop.
@Crono1973
You get the full game the DLC isn't day one content. The Donkey Kong DLC for the first game was an entirely new campaign and didn't feel like chopped content
@steventonysmith that too. I didn’t feel too burned, but I bought Fynix or however the hell u spell it only to see it steadily plummet to less than $20 over the next few months. The game was good tho and I felt it should be supported on the platform. Won’t feel so giving this time around. Not personal, just don’t see the point with this being in the backlog…
Gonna wait for when all of it costs $15 total in a year.
@Axecon
I couldn't agree more! DLC announced and created after a game's release is completely different to DLC planned before the game is even out.
Not interested in this game atm and there's better games than this anyway. I'll likely buy it on Sale or on some website that offers great discounts.
I wanted to get this on launch but with Ubisoft being Ubisoft it's a no from me.
Yeah, I'll wait until this goes on sale before biting. Seeing as it's a Ubisoft game, that should be in about a month after launch
I’ll support Ubisoft with this. I miss their quirky games.
@BabyYoda71 I still need to play the Donkey Kong DLC from the first game but honestly I just keep forgetting. Like 5 minutes from now I'll completely forget again. My current "to play" list is: XC3, Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman: Miles Morales, TLoU2 and HFW. Sort of in that order. 🤷♂️
The last thing on my mind when playing the first game was "I wish there was more content". I just wanted to get it over with by the end.
@rockodoodle You don't owe anyone to buy it just to have it, it's better to buy it when the price is right and you know you'll play it. Like eating, it's better to eat what you need, than to eat all the food available everywhere in case you need it, or just to not miss out, or because you're made to believe you want to, a "must have" "no brain" "day one purchase". You don't, it only weighs you down.
Well, that's it for today's life lesson, take it or leave it, as you wish, I can only offer
@Shambo at times I do like to “support” the system beyond just Nintendo exclusives….if we don’t buy 3rd party titles on the Switch, they will be reluctant to take a chance on us in the future…..However, I have gone above and beyond during this generation.
