Re: Reggie: N64 Classic Mini Is "Not In Our Planning Horizon", But Wouldn't Ever Rule It Out

DavidMac

I'd love to see some N64 games released on Switch, most notably the original Smash Bros. It'd be great if they released four controllers that would all connect to a small rechargeable bluetooth device that would connect 4 N64 controllers to the Switch. So you could have the experience of tripping over each other's controller cords without risking your expensive hardware. (Or just release Bluetooth N64 controllers).

What I'd really love for them to do is port the N64 Zelda games from the 3DS to Switch, I've still never played Majora's Mask but I probably would on the Switch. (It'd also be cool if they moved over the various HD remakes that were on the Switch, and better if they did it while we're still waiting for BotW2.

Re: Isaac Might Not Be Playable In Smash Ultimate, But Fans Spread The Love With #GoldenSunday Messages

DavidMac

Played it on the Wii U virtual console, absolutely loved the games. Though the dijinn mechanic was kinda bonkers. On the one hand if you had them equipped you were a little stronger, but if you used them up then you could do crazy assed summons and super powerful attacks. So the battle system was kind of a hot mess, but it was still so much fun to play. I'd LOVE for them to make either a sequel or a remaster of them for Switch.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Reveals Nintendo Has Already Selected DLC Fighters For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

DavidMac

I kind of feel like they did several fighters as DLC so they could get the rights but not have to pay a portion of Smash sales, or the other party was like, "Our character is super valuable" and Nintendo was like, if that's true you won't mind getting a percentage of revenue.

Also given that Vergeben was right about ... basically all the fighters, I'm going to guess that one will be an Square Enix character (Guessing Geno, hoping not Sora since I'm not a KH fan) I'm guessing no other Capcom reps since Though they could always go with a Dragon Quest rep?) They were also saying Microsoft rep of some kind would come in so I'm gonna bet on Banjo & Kazooie.

Honestly I'm kinda running dry on other DLC fighters. He said no Echos so I'm kinda hoping Nintendo might dig deep and make Dixie a fighter, but I'm doubtful. I don't think we're going to get any weird obscure fighters for these, I suspect they'll all be big name characters that can be on a Nintendo console ... though I'm kinda realizing most of the big names are already in Smash.

Re: Ubisoft Eager To Find Out Most Loved Mario Characters In New Subscriber Survey

DavidMac

I’d love to see them do Nintendo x Rabbids. Do it like a sort of faux Smash but in the same genre as Kingdom Battle. Have Kirby, Pikachu, Toon Link and Tetra, along with Rabbid Samus, Rabbid Captain Falcon and Rabid Shulk. Just do weird stuff where the Rabbids end up dumping even more Nintendo junk into the Mushroom Kingdom! I’m not sure how much the overworked affected development time but I’d be happy even with less of it (I did enjoy it.) would be fun if you just controlled Mario and were able to jump around and what not.

Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For October And November

DavidMac

I need to try the MM11 demo with my 8bitdo controller because it was stupidly hard with joycons. I actually felt a lot better after I saw the game slaughter Caleb Hart since he’s held world records for Mega Man speed runs.

Really I want a new X game more than anything. But like a SNES X game. Been playing X legacy and the SNES games are so much better than the PS ones.

I’m still a little burned on Star Fox from Zero plus the toys to life physical version is 100 bucks in Canada! So I’m gonna wait until I see more reviews and I’m gonna hope the download version goes on sale.

I’ve heard great things about World Ends with you, but if it’s a full priced game I’m not sure I shouldn’t just buy it on iOS.

I find it weird that people are saying the Switch line up is light! There are so many good games I’m not buying because I know I won’t have time to play them! I guess if you game every night maybe there’s not enough or if you’re a junior high kid with mom’s visa. Other than that I can’t figure out who needs more games than what’s coming.

Re: Sakurai Warns Smash Bros. Fans That New Character Reveals Will Slow Down From Now On

DavidMac

@Royalblues I remember seeing the black inkling and thinking, “holy crap that’s the first black character Smash has had! There’s obviously a lot of white characters and a decent number that are “either white or Asian depending on who’s looking”. And a decent number who are animals and monsters. (Also Smash is kinda weird from a video game perspective in that it has a larger than normal cast of female characters many of whom aren’t specialized.)

That said I thought back to it and was like, what black video game characters are there? The only one I could think of off the top of my head was Barret from FF7. (Who is be down for having in! Even if he is kind of an example of what too many Japanese people think of when they think black) but other than him I couldn’t think of any who weren’t licensed from other media or in sports games. I checked wimipedia and apparently Resident Evil has a black character.

But I agree it would be nice to see big studios invest in black protagonists.

Re: Random: Father Steals "Gameboy DS" From Prize Machine With Help Of His Daughter

DavidMac

@nonprophetmusic I honestly tried getting into the Beatles because everyone says they're so great. But I feel like most of the people these days who like them who didn't grow up with them are musicians who end up liking unique things done with instrumentation or something or can appreciate how they were basically the fathers of pop, or whatever.

I try to remind myself that they were one of the first groups that actually did multi track arrangements and stuff, and that all their stuff was cut on tape. But I find that I enjoy their songs a lot more when I hear them covered by bands using modern recording techniques.

Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch

DavidMac

I'm still pissed off that there's no way to use my 3 Wii U Pro controllers with my Switch! As it stands I've got my two joy cons, an 8Bitdo SN30, and a gamecube adapter with 4 GC computers coming from eBay. (I suspect they're cheaply made, but they're not terribly expensive and probably being made with the same parts as the PGP ones are.) I think I heard that the GC controllers can be use with Mario Kart. Let's hope that they at least allow us to use those with party games, because I'm a little burned on buying Nintendo controllers. (Love the 8Bitdo though it's great for playing platformers!)

Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

DavidMac

@Arnold-Kage I'm aware, I played it before, loved it and depending on what the price is I'm probably gonna buy it right away. (Though I said that about the X legacy collection and so far I've only bought the first original mega man collection ... I don't have enough time on my hands.)

7 is a good game. 9 is a fantastic game. Didn't play 8 but I hear it's the worst of the playstation ones. 10 and 10-2 I hear are good. 13 I forgot about, but it looks like it's a PS3 and 360 game. Switch is powerful enough to run it, so my guess is that they'll save that for 2020. (Holy crap 2020 is the year after next ... I'm so old!)

Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

DavidMac

I'm super hyped for the release of some of the PS's best turn based FF games! I mean think about it, we now have basically ever mainline Final Fantasy game possible on Nintendo hardware, that's insane! And given that Nintendo already has emulators for SNES games, and the 3DS remansters, we can probably get 3, 4,5 and 6 in short order.

Final Fantasy 7 if anything is more important in a symbolic way. That was the game that should have been on a Nintendo console but was way better because it was able to leverage the disc storage on the PS one. (To put it into perspective the biggest N64 games were about 60 megs, FF7 was 3 discs if I remember each with probably around 700 megs on each disc.)

Granted there are other Final Fantasy games that are better (like 9) but still, this is a huge symbolic victory for Nintendo! I wouldn't be surprised if they make a point of ensuring that the remake of 7 has the potential to run at least somewhat on the Switch. Either way I suspect whatever comes out after 15 they're going to seriously look at ways they might be able to make it run on the Switch.

The thing to keep in mind is that the Switch's hardware is great, and with enough care put in at the outset almost any big third party game COULD be made with the Switch in mind, they might need to down res it or not use as complicated of lighting effects on the Switch, but it COULD work. I really think SE is going to start keeping the Switch in mind a lot more.

Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

DavidMac

I’m fine with ports if the game was never on a Nintendo console. And Final Fantasy is not something to complain about!

People talk about commercially successful games that sold well on other platforms as if that’s a bad thing. Lots of people didn’t own the systems they came from, so we’re happy to play them.

Quite frankly I’m hoping Twilight Princess gets ported because I meant to buy it on the Wii U but didn’t.

Also keep in mind that Nintendo is pumping out first party exclusives at a really steady clip. None of these ports of other good games makes Nintendo less likely to invest in first party games. All they do is pad the library out which makes people on the fence about getting a Switch decide to buy one.

Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

DavidMac

I keep hearing people say that they liked different things from this direct which makes me happy! I think the Wii U was really bad for only having a few good games. Where as the Switch has tons of weird indies to appeal to different people, plus a super broad range of Nintendo titles plus a weird amount of third party support!

The Wii has tons of games but so many were just motion control garbage. I think the Switch already has a better library than the Game Cube or N64. Its like owning a SNES again!

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Coming to Nintendo Switch in January

DavidMac

@pika677 agreed I think Zero is one of the few Nintendo made games from the Wii U that should be left on the platform. (Also I’d be so pissed off if they rereleased it with fixed aiming for one screen on the Switch since I paid full price for it on the Wii U and eventually just gave up since the controls were so bad.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Coming to Nintendo Switch in January

DavidMac

@pika677 not sure you get what a game engine is. Mario Odyseey 1 and 2 feel really similar because they’re built inside a computer framework that is filled with a bunch of stuff that is reused and universal through out the game.

Captain Toad and 3D World were made in the same engine. They did all the work to get Toad over, at this point it’s almost just a copy and paste job to get 3D World running on the Switch.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Coming to Nintendo Switch in January

DavidMac

Oh also, while the propeller cap looked stupid the squirl suit was stupid! I died so many times trying to figure out how to reliably work that suit.

That said they HAD to get this game out of the way before Maker. I’ve been thinking for a while that Mario Maker 2 was gonna be the big game for Switch next year, and I’m still leaning toward that being the Holiday game. (Though Pokemon might take that title) Maker was one of the few gameS that sold insanely well on the Wii U. They already did MK8, Zelda, Mario, and Splatoon in the first year, and Smash and Pokemon and Kirby this year. They’ve announced Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem and Yoshi for next year, there aren’t that many other for sure hits left for them to pull from
For that big holiday push.

I think the lack of Odyseey DLC means they probably decided to roll everything they were doing into a sequel. (Which is smart) and I think they HAVE to be doing a BotW sequel in the same engine.

But I think those Mario and Zelda game’s will probably be saved until everything they can develop faster like Mario Maker 2. I wouldn’t be surprised if they planned those games to be enhanced by the “New Nintendo Switch” which will probably ship as a combination of a handheld and as an optional enhanced Dock. The dock would be for people who only want to play high fedelity games at home and stick to simpler games on the go, where as the new portable would be for people who want both. The new system will have whatever parts Nvidea can give them. (Hopefully they’ll pick whatever is bleeding edge when it comes out) and you’ll be able to play new games with better looks and enhanced lighting, while lots of games coming out in the future will be able to run on the whole family of systems.

Re: Gallery: Behold The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Switch Hardware Bundle

DavidMac

Having the download code in with the system makes sense. Most people getting it for Smash probably also like their games, so they’ll buy BotW, Mario, or something else to play in the mean time. Plus it means that if demand out strips supply (probably will) then they can make sure they have them on sale earlier.

Besides there are a ton of low cost games on the eshop if somebody gets it for a kid and they can’t play the big game it came with yet.
