Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Has Been Rated For Nintendo Switch

@sleepinglion It also looks like one of those games that plays itself, like you barely do anything beyond move to the right and suddenly you have like 10 meaningless achievements. It's style over substance, and the character roster isn't compelling enough. Wario should have been a playable character, and Bowser again and again is just lazy game design.

Not a fan of the Super Mario Run art style with overly animated backgrounds that add nothing to the actual gameplay, along with the fact that the game looks too easy. I'm sure there are the predictable boss battles with the easy to learn patterns for defeating them, and adding purple gems along with the usual coin collecting doesn't push the series forward.

I can see they tried incorporating stuff from Kirby's Epic Yarn and DKC Returns, but it doesn't really work in a Mario world. Super Princess Peach (2005!) was truly the last innovative 2D Mario game. The way Nintendo took the Peach character and gave her this new internal psychology to interact with her outside world was really amazing, but unfortunately it never got a sequel.

Re: Percentage Of Female Managers At Nintendo Hasn't Improved, Despite Pledges

DasWunderkind

It's important to consider a few things as an outsider. I'm not Japanese, but I have visited and study the culture.

Women are traditionally supposed to be docile and obedient despite the enormous pressures they face to raise children in a competitive culture, and for those living in cities, to maintain an expensive quality of life. Combine that with long work weeks for men and the expectations from companies like Nintendo where employees sleep under their desks sometimes, making a living and trying to raise a family is difficult for almost everyone. That is why the birthrates in Japan and Korea have dropped so drastically.

You can't ignore these issues when you talk about equal opportunities in any society. It benefits both society and companies to have males and females working in entry level, as well as manager and board level positions, not because it's politically correct, but because it helps maintain a balance in a country struggling to keep up with its own demands. America has many of the same gender and pay gap issues, not just between men and women, but between states. Look at minimum wage in California vs. minimum wage in Wisconsin. Seriously WTF is going on?

Anyway just my two rupees 😉

In Mega Man 3 for the NES, if you hold right on the 2nd controller Mega Man can super jump without Rush and jump in and out of holes. If you take damage while you are in a hole, you will lose all your health and come back out completely invincible.

In Sonic the Hedgehog, the level select code is Up A Down A Left A Right A Hold A Start.

In NBA Jam for the Genesis, at the TONIGHT'S MATCHUP screen, if you rotate the D-pad counter clockwise and press Ax13 times and hold A on the 13th press while still rotating the D-pad until the game starts, you will be able to dunk from halfway across the court.

In Double Dragon II for the NES, if you play a game in 2B mode and beat up your partner, you will earn a 1up every time you kill him.

Entering the name HELP ME in Castlevania III gives you 10 lives to start.

In the 1st dungeon of Legend of Zelda, the locked door will be unlocked if you enter, exit and reenter the dungeon.

In A Link to the Past, you can shoot bombs and arrows at the same time.

In Link's Awakening, you can steal anything from the shop as long as you don't mind being killed when you come back for more. 😄

In the Safari Zone of Pokemon Red and Blue, if you swim up and down the coast you can catch some crazy wild Pokemon and glitch your items to get 99 of each.

Re: Switch Online's N64 Update Is Live (Version 2.3.1), Kirby 64 Game-Breaking Bug Fixed

DasWunderkind

Got the whole 340+ games library on my N64 Everdrive playing flawlessly with the rumble pak, memory pak and expansion pak along with 2 brand new wired N64 controllers from Amazon. All this costs about $150 and it's mine for life with no glitches or controller issues. Also you get free romhack updates like playing Kirby 64 with the joystick option and Majora's Mask with all the DS quality of life improvements.

Re: Video: Some Of Us Prefer Zelda: Majora's Mask Over Ocarina Of Time Because We're Right

DasWunderkind

Both are great. Ocarina took the best of Link's Awakening and ALttP and introduced so many cool real life stuff. Just chasing chickens, wearing masks, racing Epona and shooting arrows, making frogs grow by playing different notes on the ocarina, there are some really fun things to do outside the main game. Nowadays when I play OoT, the dungeons are my least favorite part of the game since there isn't much freedom to how you can complete them.

Majora's Mask is a great game that I hated when it first came out. I was annoyed that I had to spend $40 on an Expansion Pak just to play it, but in retrospect at least I got to own it. 😄 The game had too many things I didn't get at first, maybe because I never saw the Back to the Future trilogy and realized that Link is basically Marty and the Traveling Mask Salesman is Doc. The characters are the same from OoT but in this warped reality that really forces you to not only understand their motivations, fears and desires, but brings you so close to their experiences that you actually become them. It's a very experimental game that I didn't appreciate until now.

As crap as America is right now and has been, we don't need to go around buying football teams and video game stocks to make ourselves less disgusting. Defend your country for its natural beauty, for its people and its culture, but don't lie to us and play the victim card when we know how atrocious life can be for certain "undesirables" living under totalitarian regimes.

Re: Legendary SNES Emulator Liberated Using NSA Tool

DasWunderkind

@TheGameSquid "and you're going to hard-pressed to find ANY device that a fork of SNES9X runs very well on"

Have you tried the latest SNES9X RX fork on the Wii? It's constantly being updated and as an original SNES owner, I can tell you it's much better than the real thing. The games look and sound crisper than they did on the official console, not to mention all the exclusive Satellaview games, fan hacks and translations you can't play on real hardware, plus fast forwarding, game genie, and save states. The only games I haven't been able to play are 2 obscure demos (Eurit is one) that never came out anyway.

Also the SNES9X 2010 core on RetroArch has super accurate emulation. ZNES should be left in the pile with your old burned CDs of Windows 98 😄

Re: The Arcade1Up Mortal Kombat Cabinet Will Support Online Multiplayer

DasWunderkind

@SalvorHardin If you had a Wii with the RetroArch channel installed you could play all those games AND the full library of Atari, Williams and Midway Arcade games with zero input lag using an X-Arcade through the GC ports.

@kingbk MK Trilogy and MK VI on the N64 is the best way to play these games. Arcade perfect ports with no loading in native resoltion with a 6-button controller!! 📺🎮🤘🏽

Re: Mini Review: Dr. Mario 64 - Diagnosis: A Bit Rubbish

DasWunderkind

Saying this is the best Dr. Mario game is like saying the 77' Gremlin was the crown jewel of the series. Sure, you're technically right but it's not really an accomplishment.

Ms. Pacman Maze Craze, Bomberman Arcade, Puyo Puyo Sun 64, Magical Tetris Challenge are all far better and more interesting puzzle games. Dr. Mario is the same damn game on every console.
