Hey everyone, let's get in line to buy controllers for a crappy emulator that Nintendo isn't updating anymore.... said no one ever
I'm still waiting patiently for N64 controllers to be in stock.
@Papichulo Eh, plenty of good NES games on Switch between the app and the collections that are available, and I haven't had any issues with how they run/play. I like having the controllers.
I have my superior NES Classic Mini with all the games I desire... So... no thanks.
Bring a N64 Classic Mini ASAP
No home menu button on these Wireless Controllers, and the new iterations still haven't incorporated it? What was Nintendo thinking?
Ordered! Thanks NintendoLife!👍
Learned my lesson after buying both these and the SNES pads right when they came out. They will eventually go on perma-sale
If they released cobra triangle I would be tempted to buy these.
Seems like this should just be the regular price.
Nintendo making a pretty penny off nostalgia. Well enjoy the never updated catalog they offer with your overpriced controllers I suppose.
I'll stick with my access to every NES game made and controllers that are actually comfortable.
Nintendo really are the masters of scummy impulse buys. $35 instead of $50 sounded like a decent sale, so I went to check out. But the shipping is like 8 freaking dollars, so combined with tax, the total wound up being $47, which hardly feels like a sale. Still bought it, though, because I was just a click away and had already made it that far.
Sorry, guys. I dropped the ball on this one. 😞
I would love to collect these... I looked ahead to the future and imagined myself pulling out my ol switch to play some nes games with my nes controllers that only make sense for nes games and then i realize i dont technically own nes games on switch since i rent them with a subscription...one day when Nintendo takes that down im left with two useless nes controllers that just look cool and work with nothing
I'm still hoping for a UK restock of the N64 controllers! 🤞🤞🤞
@ParadoxFawkes That depends. You can still use them on PC if you have one, or on one of the many non-NSO NES games you can buy on Switch (Castlevania Collection, Mega Man Collection, Contra Collection, the Kunio-kun Collection, Namco Museum Archives 1 & 2, SNK Collection etc.). That's more than 40 NES games.
Nostalgia, I get it. For me too. But I'm not going to spend even half the price on controllers that make my adult hands cramp up before I get to the warp pipes in SMB.
@Not_Soos yeah I don’t understand the shipping costs. I can’t remember the last time I paid for shipping and the last two years I basically bought everything from home.
@Not_Soos $8 shipping sounds like a luxury to me.
@sixrings You even have to pay like 5 bucks shipping for their "free" My Nintendo rewards. You didn't have to pay a penny for Club Nintendo rewards, and those were better! It's not like Nintendo is short on cash right now or anything. Very annoying.
@ParadoxFawkes
Very good point, and one that Nintendo would like to keep quiet. I don't know if I've ever seen this before from a major company, only OUYA spring to mind..
Has anybody from Puerto Rico been able to purchase these? I’ve been trying and always get an error message when I’m completing the order
@ParadoxFawkes They do actually work with normal Switch games, as long as it's a game that doesn't need very many buttons.
I think I'll get these as basically expensive Amiibo. I don't really need them for gameplay but I want something around my house in memory of my beloved NES. I'll break them out here and there as novelties. I wonder if I can pair them with my PC though.
@Sinton it is true that the nes controllers are designed for the seldom updated NES games on NSO. You can't buy them without NSO. They charge by connecting them to your switch, they don't charge on a PC! Your alternative suggestions are like saying you should buy a boat to sail the desert, because water is out there somewhere. Enjoy your blind loyalty to corporate overlords.
@Moonlessky Didn't expect someone from PR to be here lol. It lets me put in my address just fine. Try arranging it in the standard format for deliveries, I know how weird some addresses here can be. If not, use the suggested address from the webpage.
Went through a whole Mega Man kick using these things, and it worked great
I couldn’t pass up on this sale so made the purchase. sadly, I tried to find an SNES, N64, and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive controller for purchase as well but they were all out of stock 🎮😭
anybody who cant find a use for these on switch besides NSO isn't very creative or doesn't actually like retro games, so these aren't for them.
though if the controller isn't enjoyable for you to use, that's another thing entirely.
@Moistnado
what they said:
"You can still use them on PC if you have one, or on one of the many non-NSO NES games you can buy on Switch"
what you said:
"Enjoy your blind loyalty to corporate overlords."
bit dramatic, no? ☺️
@Moistnado There's probably no point in trying to convince you otherwise, as your mind seems to be set, but I subscribed for NSO for a month (or two?), bought the controllers, stopped subscribing, and have used them while playing the 40 or so NES games I've bought on Switch (such as those I mentioned in my original post) as well as on my PC playing some NES games released on Steam (such as the Disney Afternoon Collection). I don't need to have a NSO subscription for any of those. (But I do need my Switch for the games on Switch and for charging.)
@Papichulo crappy? why? It seem games run flawlessly.
You are right about the lack of relevant updates tho.
@Moistnado does anybody on this site does not have a Switch for charging the controls?
@Zequio bit of a lame reason to own a games console so you can charge the controller to use elsewhere because the manufacturer only rented out their old games.
@Samo_Gallego theres almost no games atleast not the nes games i would want to play with that controller, might as well grab an 8bitdo for retro games that will be useful for pc and anything else too
@-wc- I think you missed almost the entirety of my original message, but I suppose that is how blind loyalty works.
@Sinton you really are a special niche kind of market. Enjoy your controllers.
@Moistnado you are just trolling now. Everyone here already owns the console.
Those are cheap nice controllers for a fun way to play retro games, on the console or on a PC.
@Moistnado
lol so now I'm blindly loyal? I don't even own the controllers!
i feel bad for you if this qualifies as a big issue for you. let people be happy with their controllers, eh? you are welcome to use whatever controllers you wish, it's a wonderful restaurant!
@Aurumonado
The Nintendo online shop is down as of right now, but it appears that the N64 controllers are back in stock. There's an option to buy it whereas the SNES controller shows it's out of stock.
Apologies if it turns out I'm wrong.
There is literally no point in having those controllers. Just get the wireless SNES ones - they'll be more comfortable in your hands and can do NES games and SNES games just as easily.
@-wc- it is clearly written on the box that these games are for NSO! I can't tell you why you can't see it, maybe speak to an optician.
@Moistnado
lol okay that's enough. you dont even know what you are saying at this point.
@-wc- it's your money buy what you like. Would you like some magic beans?
I think these make more sense for retro titles and collections purchased from the eshop than the rinky-dink game dump that is NSO.
@Ravenmaster I still prefer the Pro controller in most cases, but I'll admit I really like the NSO SNES controller for delivering that otherworldly retro feel without sacrificing my hands. I never owned a SNES so I have no nostalgia for it, but it makes it easier to imagine what it must have been like to play these games when they were new.
@Papichulo The emulator is far from crappy.
@Ravenmaster
there's no point in the SNES controllers then, since you can just use any normal switch controller, right?
i thought the point was a) nostalgia and b) authenticity.
i would argue that games made for the NES layout never feel quite right on SNES, and I've had alot of time to think about it. a for jump on SNES just never feels good, and b for jump on SNES feels completely different from NES.
ofc im cheap so i just bought an 8bitdo pro+ and play everything with that and im happy as can be we are lucky to have so many compelling options these days!
I bought the NES, SNES for collection purpose but still waiting to see the return of N64. Most likely because of supply chain issue I don't see it.
@Not_Soos I wouldn't say that Club Nintendo is exactly free because need to buy the game for the point code card which yes it had free shipping but in the other hand you're still paying over $20+ for the game to get the code that add up to few $100 per year.
Another thing you miss is the new reward setup has everyday activities to earn points for free and if I'm paying $5 for shipping instead buying a certain amount of games to get one thing which one you think is more beneficial in the short run that can be cash in the long run?
Plus I do like Club Nintendo bit more then the new reward site because it had more physical reward options but I'm getting older and looking for a cheap retirement by owning interesting things then sell them in the next 50 years.
