Metroidstyle games to also try would be Blaster Master and Bionic Commando on the NES, Rohga on MAME, Turrican, Ranger X and Vectorman on Sega Genesis, Cybernator and Front Mission - Gun Hazard on the SNES. Also Super Mario Bros Extra, the best SMB1 hack ever, is a Mario-Metroid hybrid hack that you really need to play.
This is really only useful in multiplayer mode. Most 4:3 retro games that go 16:9 only fill in the margins. Sure it's nice to look at, and some games pull it off well, but it usually makes the game's layout feel empty and unfinished.
I can't wait to see Spanky's Quest in person. Then I'll ask the curator where is the Earthbound exhibit? And he'll say what is this Earthbound you speak of? 😄
Sonic 1, 2, 3+ Knuckles Sonic Episode 4 Sonic CD Knuckles Chaotix Sonic Pocket Adventure Sonic Advance 1-3 Sonic Colors Sonic Adventure 1& 2 Sega & Sonic All Star Racing
And well over 100 Sonic hacks. At this point SEGA needs to finish the SA trilogy or the Episode 4 Trilogy by releasing all 3 in a nice package.
No Mega Man, Sonic, Castlevania, Earthbound, Mario RPG, Bonk, classic FF or DQ, and that's just the 16-bit era. If that really is what Nintendo remembers as classic games they must have had a s.h.it.t.y childhood 😄
Dragon Warrior IV is easily the best, with VI and I being must play games. Also what about Dragon Quest Monsters on the GBC? Such an awesome little game
The Wii already does this better through the Homebrew Channel and gives you better controller options and more accurate emulation. I don't promote no junk 😎
Funny how people complain about vaccines when they've been getting jabbed with a syringe since they were babies. If you travel to a foreign country, especially in the Carribean or Latin America, you have to get vaccinated. You're not some freedom superhero because you don't want a vaccine. Get over yourself nerds 😄
The Wii sequel was the pinnacle of the series, with multi-player and coin battles, the propeller suit and penguin suit, along with Yoshi and 16:9 resolution. The rest were basically DLC. 2D Mario only exists now because fans keep making the games interesting.
It's the golden age of charging you more for less. "Collections" are now split into physical games and one time downloads, physical manuals are nowhere to be found, remakes and rereleases run worse than they did 10 years ago and Nintendo Switch Online is not better than what we had on Wii for free.
It's the result of freemium invading gaming. Nintendo is just as guilty as EA or any other corporate hog. The real golden age was 1998-2008, from the release of OoT on N64 and MGS on PSX all the way to the Wii era.
Now if we're talking about emulating games, then yes this is the golden age. You can now perfectly emulate SMB 1-4, Pacman, Sonic, Street Fighter II and all the classic 2D Zeldas on your phone, tablet, computer and even smart watch. All the Anbernic and Powkiddy backlit handhelds are priced at $100 and come with over 20 Retroarch cores and hundreds of games right out of the box, with a battery charge that's longer than Nintendos handhelds. Hori, 8bitdo, XArcade and Hyperkin have some awesome controllers for playing these games too.
Sonic romhacks from SonicRetro.com are better than the Sonic sequels and really show what can be done on the classic Genesis. I doubt SEGA has the talent or money to hire the talent it would take to make another great Sonic game. They should just compile the 50 best hacks and sell them as a digital download 😄
All the classic games that were remade on Wiiware like Castlevania, Contra, Gradius, Blaster Master, Mega Man 9&10, Bubble Bobble, Bomberman, Excitebike, Dr. Mario... the Wii had old retro and new retro down better than anything. Kinda why I own 3 of them 😄
1. Mega Man 2 - the first entry in the series to make 8 the standard robot masters number, improved graphics and easily the best music, levels and weapons of the original series.
2. Mega Man 3 - introduced Rush the dog, sliding, more interesting robot masters and Proto Man. The music still kicks a.s.s. and the high jump hack basically makes you god.
3. Mega Man 4 - you can slide and charge your shot, graphics and enemy AI improved, music is good but not as good as the previous entries, and the levels are not as cohesive. A good game but you could see the series was becoming routine for Capcom.
4. Mega Man X4 - the best of the old X series. Great replay value even with all the cutscenes. Given that it was on PSX they really wanted to cram some anime in there. Graphics, gameplay and music rock, levels and bosses are great, the series could have ended there but...
5. Mega Man X8 - a game overseen but not developed by Inafune. Best graphics and most gameplay options in the series, 3 playable characters, all kinds of fanfare reminiscent of the first few games in the X series. Since it was on the PS2 and came pretty late in its lifespan, no one on here has mentioned it.
Mega Man Legends wasn't a real MM game. It was Capcom's attempt at an Ocarina of Time clone with Mega Man running in circles to beat every boss.
This game is more inspired by OoT and less like the usual Zelda game. You don't really play as some gender androgynous kid trying to figure out a big world dressed like an elf carrying a wooden sword saving a princess.
You're a god in a dog's body, which comes with all the limitations you'd imagine at the beginning but eventually builds from there. It's not for everyone but it's a great game for those who get it.
While I was reading the comments I was also downloading Metro Prime 2, MGS: Twin Snakes and THPS 3 for NintenDONT on the Wii. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a brand new console that offers nothing close to that with a paid online service in 2021. Unbelievable 😄
Def Jam: Fight for NY on GC is the most vicious wrestling game, but damn they started with the No Mercy engine. This is just a cheap knockoff of a very niche game. After seeing rosters on those N64 THQ/AKI games, this is feels like a touchscreen game on your iPhone 💪 😄
This is how serious I am about preserving my games. All 3 homebrewed and loaded with over 6000 classic titles across 14 consoles. Come at me Nintendo 🎮 😉
Bwahahahahaha I love modern gaming practices. Oh you want this game? We're releasing it on its own just for you!
Oh look! We have more games? Why don't you pay us for these games and we'll forget that single release ever happened.
This is why you homebrew your consoles. You get what you want instead of dripfeeding or praying the game you want somehow drops on Nintendoflix. Also free! 🎮 😄
My JVC 36" concaved CRT and this game were made for each other. Also pretty much any game up to about 2002-2005. Lag free and pixel perfect resolution with S-Video.
And to think an old art teacher just gave it to me 😄
They could easily release the BS Zelda games (3rd/4th quest and Ancient Stone Tablets) for the anniversary but you know they won't which is why the main page that hosts them has never been taken down;
This game sucks. It reminded me of Rambo for the NES which also sucked. Too much walking around and ugly empty space, random battles up the arse that go nowhere, boss fights which consist of tomahawk chop your opponent into submission, rinse and repeat.
It really should have been given a different lead and called something else like Kid Icarus with a sword or something 😄
Already have all these games emulated perfectly on the Wii Retroarch Channel plus Punisher, Alien vs Predator, Marvel vs. SF and Vampire Hunter 2. Capcom you really need to step it up my boy. How can you compete when what's out there for free is better? 😄 🕹

SD cards don't come with manuals, so why should Switch games be any different? 😄 Nintendo sure has a fetish for anything but CDs
