It's been another interesting week in this Nintendo Life, culminating in a rather big release. Yes, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is out and is causing plenty of excitement; we enjoyed it a lot in our review. Though there were a good number of game announcements - particularly for the eShop - and it was also a week full of fun stories. An old translated interview taught us that Shigeru Miyamoto doesn't much like Navi, someone went to extreme lengths to get an 'impossible' arrow in BoTW, and someone played GTA on a Game Boy.
After all of that delightful gaming silliness it's time to chill out and discuss our weekend gaming plans. A few members of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so feel free to give our entries a read and then join in with your own via our comment section. Enjoy!

I'm playing Pokémon Legends: Arceus like everyone else and their mums, which is accurate in my case as my mum is playing it. I'm visiting my folks this weekend and have absolutely no doubt that she'll be further than me in the game, better at it, and dispensing wisdom and tips. I'll be grateful for the advice, frankly.
Like my mum it's my first Pokémon game, I'm taking the plunge because of its 'adventure' approach and the fact it's a prequel / origin game; I can't imagine a better jumping in point. I've played for a couple of hours so far and have to say I'm utterly charmed and constantly want to play more. People can go on about technical performance, which is perfectly valid, but I'm having a fun time with the game.
Elsewhere I've just about finished Rise of the Tomb Raider, which has been a good bit of gaming nonsense. Next I'll jump into Hitman 1 (which I've never played) through Hitman Trilogy, which is actually just Hitman 3 with seasonal 'packs' unlocked. It's a bit confusing but, whatever, it looks like a hoot.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Moving onto The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and SoulCalibur II on GameCube. I’m also back to my Front Mission campaign on SNES while also discovering a strange new longing for the Sega Dreamcast and its numerous “arcade at home” games.
Game of the week is unsurprisingly Pokémon Legends: Arceus. By now you all know I’ve never been into this franchise, but everyone swears this is the game they all dreamed of as kids while playing on the Game Boy, so I’m hopping into it.

Hey folks! No Pokémon for me this weekend, as I'm still trying to decide whether or not I actually want to buy it. The reviews certainly look very promising and it's been a good while since I've truly enjoyed a Pokémon game, so who knows, maybe I'll have it by next weekend.
Elsewhere, I've restarted Bayonetta, with a view to move onto the sequel as soon as I'm done. I'd like to catch up with the series again before the inevitable launch of the third game this year (I hope..!), but I want to get them out of the way now so I don't feel burnt out.
Jon Cartwright, video producer
Am I the only one who said Pokémon Legends? I imagine I was. I'm playing Pokémon Legends! As someone who's never missed out on a mainline Pokémon game, I've been a bit bored. It's felt like an obligation to keep up with the series and while I always enjoy it, it's been eons since I've been blown away... and I think they've finally done it. Legends clearly has technical shortcomings but in terms of raw gameplay this is some of the most fun I've ever had with Pokémon and I'm only a few hours in.
I hope to dedicate a good amount of time to Pokémon this weekend but I've also been juggling my way through Horizon Zero Dawn. It unfortunately launched a week before Breath of the Wild which altered my perception of every open world game and made me drop my original playthrough. 5 years later and I'm giving Horizon another chance. It's good! Doesn't do much I haven't seen before but the combat still manages to elevate everything else. Hoping to get caught up before Forbidden West launches.

This weekend I too shall be indulging in the poking of the ‘mon, along with pretty much everyone else, I’m assuming. However, I’ve also made the terrible mistake of picking up Dungeon Encounters in the past few days and I can already see that it’s going to suck away quite a lot – if not all – of my free time, so Pikachu and their pesky pals may not get quite as big a look-in this weekend as I was expecting they might.
Have a great weekend whatever you’re up to or playing!
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave us a comment below with your weekend gaming plans!

I know a lot of Switch owners will be on Pokémon Legends, but I’ll stick to what I started last week - Ni No Kuni 2. But to the rest of you, enjoy ‘catching them all’!
Some banjo, Pokemon legends and maybe start mass effect 2 if legends don't work out
I played some Nintendo Switch games.
1. Animal Crossing New Horizons
2. LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER
3. Go Vacation
4. Final Fantasy IX
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Finished Danganronpa V3 during the week so ended up starting Pokemn Legends: Arceus at launch. Far from a perfect game but pretty fun so far which is a nice change compared to other recent entries in the series. Aside from that just playing a bit of The Binding of Isaac: Repentnace on the side and maybe a little Groove Coaster.
I am LOVING Resident Evil 5 right now. I am in chapter 3, and while it's certainly not as good as the all time champion 4 (and I'm a little jealous of all of the people who got to play 8) it is as good as the two Revelations games! What a series!!!
If I do need a pallete cleanser I will start Aria of Sorrow. Who knows??
I'll probably be playing Pokemon Legends the whole weekend even though i wanna go back to Skyward sword and Brilliant diamond
And like always some Mario kart online
Monster hunter rise dlc events……and maybe focus on finishing DQ11s or DKTF
Ring Fit Adventure (as always) and Ghost of Tsushima on PS5. Did order Pokemon Arceus after seeing the £35 deal at Curry's in the UK but hasn't arrived yet and will probably wait until I've finished Ghost before diving in. My first ever Pokemon game so excited to see if it's something I can really get into!
@ziondood is it me or does that Pokemon review video have a sound clipping issue .
I am revisiting Resident Evil Revelations 2 and it's actually really, really good (probably also has something to do with me being used to playing the terrible Vita version).
This week I will be mostly playing
Pokémon Black 2
PC Engine shmups
Going out for a jog
Like most people, I'll be playing a lot of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. I'm probably 4.5 hours in at the moment and I'm having a lot of fun! While I have enjoyed all of the previous main series entries, it does still feel refreshing to get such a big change of pace with this one.
Outside of the Switch, I finished Silent Hill 2 (which is a fantastic game!), so my PS2 focus has shifted to .hack//Infection in the hopes of getting through as much of that series before the GU remasters come to Switch in March. It's a very unique game, and I can see why a lot of people say it hasn't aged well, but I'm having fun with it so far. Also, I'll definitely get in more OldSchool RuneScape as Leagues III rages on. I also picked up Kirby's Blowout Blast on the 3DS eShop, I'll probably spend at least a little time working on the EX levels since I've already finished the main game.
Probably just Pokémon. It’s good so far. Far from the best game I’ve ever played, with plenty of flaws, but I’m still enjoying myself.
To nobody's surprise, mostly Switch again - this time including Puzzle Quest and potentially even Route Me Mail (discounted through Monday and within my current gold point capacity to boot), plus some other recent recruits like Vaporum, Mechstermination Force, Pinstripe, Framed and Jenny LeClue... heck, even last weekend's planned first samplings like Here Be Dragons, Doraemon SoS and Battle Princess Madelyn - I haven't even got around to them all week!🙀😆 A lesson against making too many plans, right? Yes. A lesson learned. Nnnnope. Borderlands and Bioshock 2, Rogue Legacy and Vostok Inc, Torchlight 2 and Children of Morta, Dragon's Dogma and Pillars of Eternity... are just some of the other itches I have. I may gliss over all of them, anchor myself to a few or ultimately get to none after being distracted by something else on board - but it'll still be some quality VG time spent. Which is why I'm always fine with making, fulfilling and failing ridiculous plans like this in the first place.😄 And all of them are but more illustrations of what ridiculously AWESOME a gaming harbour the Switch is.
And yes, other platforms are also invited. No laptop time for now, but some 3DS (mostly Spirit of Justice and Sudoku Gridmaster) and Vita (mostly Gravity Rush and Symphony of the Night) are in order.
Nearly four years after buying it, I’m taking on Bayonetta. Interesting to see the building blocks behind something like Astral Chain, but it very much has its own style. Don’t think it’s dated at all, really.
Retro weekend with wine (a premature glass after a dry January)...... TMNT in time (hurry up shredders revenge!!), Lost Vikings on SNES and Rogue Squadron on N64. Happy gaming all
I'm mostly playing Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and a bit of Ys VIII. Maybe I'll start up another game like God of War of Gravity Rush Remastered.
On switch its of course Pokémon Legends, I've played around 4 hours so far and it's been a blast, if they can continue with this formula and improve the visuals then the next pokemon games are going to something special.
On playstation 5 I will continue with NEO the world ends with you and some Baldo
On series S I will continue with nier automata if I get time
I was playing Shining Pearl, got the first four badges. Then as soon as Arceus arrived in the post, I put that on. I'll be surprised if I even go back to Pearl, because the difference in quality is astounding. Early days but I am pretty impressed with Arceus!
Sands of Aura.
Like everyone else, Pokémon Legends. I was on the fence about it, but it seems like a good good departure from the old formula.
Aside from that, some Raft with a friend and probably Ori and the Blind Forest with possibly some Nuclear Blaze.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Probably the same as many Pokemon Leggend Arceus as it is a refreshing take on Pokemon that actually feels like a step forward for once.
Removed - spam; user is banned
I just bought Cadence of Hyrule. I'll probably bounce around between that, Atelier Ryza 2 and Divinity: Original Sin 2 while the wind and the snow pummel my house.
Focusing on Legends Arceus on the Switch front and Shadow of the Tomb Raider on the Xbox front though may play some other games like Mario Party Superstars..
Booted up Arceus very late last night - played all of 5 minutes so far. About to dive back in! I gave up on Shining Pearl after a couple of gyms just a couple of weeks back. I'm really unsure whether I'll return to that after Arceus. It just felt like a game I'd already played 100 times before (I never played the gen 4 games originally).
I've also reached the final battle in FE: Shadows Of Valentia. I think this might be my favourite of the three FE games on 3DS. Birthright a close second. I do still have Conquest to dive into at some point too.
On the Series X I'm still going through RE Village. Terrifying stuff.
ACNH. Just got a Series X and GamePass, so Forza Horizon 5, Tetris and…probably some random games…
Ecco the dolphin on x360
Borderlands 3 on ps4
Metroid Dread on switch
Super Mario Galaxy on wii
-Cyber Shadow
-Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (3DS)
-Pokémon Legends
Starting Arceus, liking it so far. I don’t get the whining about the graphics/textures, the visuals have a good style
Well... I've played Hyper Light Drifter – Special Edition about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Bought 2 upgrades and released few monoliths. In Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc... I've cleared 3rd chapter and stopped on 4th chapter, before the beginning of class trial. Execution in 3rd chapter didn't satisfied me. My favourite executions still are - Spear of Gungnir and Senbon Nokku. But, there still remains 3 executions - in 4th, 5th, and 6th chapter. I'm hope that at least ONE of them will satisfy me. Later today, I'll probably will finish 4th chapter. That's all what I've played on this week.
Luigi's Mansion and a brand new run-through of Breath of the Wild on Switch, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on Nintendo Switch Online.
Uncharted 4, Guardians of the Galaxy, Chorvs, and Tomb Raider on PS5
Forza Horizon 5, Doom Eternal, Golf With Friends and Unpacking on Xbox Series X
I am absolutely spoiled for choice and loving this generation. Game on one and all and happy weekend!
Having finished up Doom Eternal this week (a really good game once I got the hang of things, but it wasn't as good as Doom 2016), I'm now cracking into The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve. The first game has been my favourite game I've played this year, and I've already blitzed through the first case of the sequel in an evening. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story continues.
9 hours in and living Pokemon legends Arceus. Superb game and haven't even been bothered by claims of poor graphics. Really like the new gameplay 👌
Not a Pokemon guy! But I like watching some Let's plays of the new game.
I'm playing the Terraria free trial. I want to see as "much" from the game as I can, although I can't see me getting the full version.
I cleaned out some of my backlog and stuff so the next few weeks are all in on Pokemon Legends Arceus (and the occasional Smash game). A few hours in and I want to 100% the game.
@Krull Was wondering exactly this. Just spotted it for $10 on the PS store and thought I'd finally give it a go. But I often just cannot handle dated camera and general visual muddiness of older games. Does it play well for someone who LOVED Astral Chain?
@karatekid1612
https://vinepair.com/wine-blog/6-nintendo-characters-8-bit-wine-labels/
Atelier Ryza, Windjammers 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Mario Party Superstars, and Castlevania Advance Collection.
Today I’m playing watch the blizzard and hope the power stays on, clearing the driveway while the kiddos (at least my youngest) enjoy the personal copies of Pokémon Legends: Arceus I picked up for them last night.
The SA’s at the store were giddy and raving about Arceus and the mood there was like Breath of the Wild-level lively - one of them said she’d been up 36hrs straight working the midnight release, then playing PLA all night, then working her Friday shift. Both of them were ecstatic that their store will stay closed today for the storm. Should give them plenty of time to catch poké critters. 😁
I’ll probably try the game too, after my girls finish - I like the open-world action formula, and the graphics would have to be truly atrocious to bother me.
Otherwise I’ll continue my efforts to 100% Into the Breach and be less greedy and survive past the jungle levels in Spelunky. I love these games so much. 🥰
Have a fun & safe weekend everyone!
Here’s the thing that’s crazy… this is the first pokemon game I have played that doesn’t have multiplayer in any way, shape or form. And yet it is easily the best pokemon game I have ever played. This game is a huge step in the right direction. There are some other features that could easily be implemented to make the next entry phenomenal. The amount of fun I am having battling and catching is far better than any past experience. And I have been playing Pokemon games for 25 years.
Easily Pokémon Legends: Arceus. I'm finally coming back to Pokémon again.
While my son is all-in on the new Pokémon, I’m getting on with final fantasy x. Near the end so looking forward to seeing how it plays out and then moving on to something else.
I picked up Arceus for my gf so I could play Ghost of Tsushima in peace. Lol. Ill also be getting my online fix through Halo Infinite as usual. In other words, it's gonna be a good weekend!
@shonenjump86 You got great taste!
More dying light, I beat the base game and didn't realize there was dlc, so that'll be my weekend
Definitely going to be playing some KH: Melody of Memory in Preparation for the games releasing in a few weeks. Just 12 Days to go! Also some Smash Bros, going to polish up my Sora playing. I'm good, just needs refining.
Hopefully going to finish up MP2 Echoes and start up MP3 Corruption
Immortals Fenyx Rising (enjoying it immensely more than BoTW), some more The sWitcher 3, and Fortnite dailies.
Just finished fire emblem awakening last night. So pretty much a clear slate for arceus. I'll probably also play a small amount of XC2.
Edit: also a little more of new super mario bros 2 and DKL3
I'm one of the ten people NOT playing Pokemon Legends: Arceus this weekend - hopefully before too long though! I'm a little behind on Pokemon releases. I recently finished Pokemon Shield + the DLC and want to play through Brilliant Diamond first as a Sinnoh refresher.
I've still been working on Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (currently in Chapter 7) and Ori and the Will of the Wisps (in Baur's Reach) on the Switch. My weekend is a fairly busy one, so I don't know how much progress I'll make....
Happy gaming!
Waiting on my copy of Pokemon Legends Arceus to arrive Monday so taking some time to finish one last Devine Beast, get the master sword and defeat Ganon in BoTW. Also Tetris 99 as always
@thenewguy thanks, I’m actually pretty late getting into Xenoblade but I’m really enjoying it.
@nofriendo Can’t lie, the camera does bug me a bit, but I think the visuals hold up fairly well. Depends how forgiving you are on older games. The combat, on the other hand, hasn’t aged a day. And the set pieces are ridiculous - I can see why the Bayonetta series has such hardcore fans.
More Dragon Quest XI S, baby! Happy gaming, everyone!
I finally pre-ordered Arceus last week. Went down to my local game shop last night. Traded in HW: Age of Calamity towards it.... I have high hopes, so we will see....
@Donutsavant I also played RE5 on my Switch last year, first time. And I really liked the game, but it's not close to 4 by any means, but is still great to play.
Doom Eternal, need to get that Doom 64 skin.
Pokemon for me, and it's awesome so far.
Surprise, surprise, it's Legends Arceus. Though I've been also playing through Trails of Cold Steel III (so far it's been great, just seems to be suffering from the same pacing problems as the first one.), so not fully Pokemon yet.
I just finished Ori and wofw. I would like to finish ni no Kuni 1 I'm 45 hrs in but lost steam in a cave with a boss where I need to grind a few levels to beat.
Final Fantasy X on switch. I'm really enjoying it so far. I had picked it up on ps4 during the last sale and while it looks nicer, I don't want to replay all hours I have into the switch version. Plus the switch graphics have their own charm.
Eastward, Banjo, Paper Mario
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (3DS) - Finally coming back to start Episode 3.
Mahjong by Microsoft (Android) - Finally nearing all my gold medals needed for the achievement.
Ridiculous Marathon (Windows Phone) - Fun little endless runner to kill time with.
Never been a Pokemon fan at all so thought I would get Arceus and then write an article on whether it has given me the big or not…..so far so…
Uh... crush crush. Yeah... that’s the game I’ve been playing... am I boring?
I'm trying to get through high rank in monster hunter rise, but I recently went back to world and it's kinda just not great. I mean, it's great for a handheld game, but the switch isn't a dedicated handheld device. The maps, man. Rises maps are relatively just bad. And they took out the hunting from monster hunter. I mean, MH is a grind fest, but since they took out the actually finding of the monsters in lieu of just running up and smashing them and because they're are so few monsters in the base game once you get through the story and up to high rank it's just so repetitive. It just doesn't feel the same.
First some banjo kazooie sound track is stuck in my head! Then some SMT
ARCEUS 6 hours started but may restart since I have more idea of gameplay and won't miss my Bonuses. Missed some starting quest and need more Pokémon leveling.
Just like everyone else I started Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It's a bit slow at the start but I'm only like 2 hours into the game. I decided that before I continue to get deeper in the game I'm going to finish Shin Megami Tensei V first! I'm towards the end of that game!
@jarvismp Ok you leave me in suspense lol, i never been a Pokemon fan either. But would like to hear your review since it's your first game in the series. I'll wait patiently 😁
Legends, it's a nice relaxing game.
Dragon Warrior, getting ready to take on Charlock Castle and the Dragon Lord!
@shgamer both Revelations games are terrific!!! Definitely underrated pieces of that series
Working my way to Ultima Weapon in KH3 before jumping into Remind. Playing on PS5.
@PhatToad Haven't you seen the Youtube gameplay already? If you played BOTW it's matches up to that gameplay level where it's Open World with Quests task. So once you clear the 3 trial quests you can do Quests as you find them along with the Main Quest. Graphics isn't something to sneeze at but for the level of gameplay - it's what I expected and I wasn't looking for 4K 60FPS 144Hz graphics game play. This game is akin to Kids/Teen Games not like COD gaming.
Completed mega man 10 on easy. Have managed a couple of levels in 9, played a bit of 2 as well xxx
Pokémon Legends Arceus, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Fortnite, and maybe LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 (I got a bunch of LEGO games on Xbox because they were on sale for really cheap).
Pokemon Legends Arceus for me, the phenomenal game that brings tears to GameFreak haters' eyes. Also some Yu Gi Oh Master Duel on the side.
@P-Man Nice list! Playing the exact same games this weekend Can't wait for the Star Wars Lego game to drop.
@kal_el_07241 Yeah it looks super good!
@SwitchForce Thanks i will check it out.
@Krull Thank you! Hard to say no at $10, really. I wish Bayonetta 2 would go on sale, like, ever, but I never see it dip below MSRP.
Still going up the mountain in Grindstone and starting Arceus
Xenoblade chronicles definitive edition is still eating all my gaming time. Considering I spent 130hrs with ni no kuni wotww before that , I may need to give some shorter games in my library a chance next
Resident Evil 0 nearing the end, seems alright but far from the best resident evil game. Going to check out Sonic Colors soon
I bought Pokemon Legends for the small people in my life. I had a quick go earlier, but I'm hoping to crack on with some Ni No Kuni when they go to bed.
Monster Hunter Rise on switch with smash ult in between with friends
MH3U, DQMJ3, Devil Survivor on 3ds
Lego Star Wars the clone wars, Jedi fallen order and maybe majoras mask
Pokémon Legends: Arceus. I'm six hours in and it is wonderful. Really fun, but I wish I could remap the buttons. Besides that I'll hit up K.K. Slider tonight for a new tune.
Have a good weekend everyone.
I’m playing some Pokémon too… Shining Pearl.
I just finished doing the bad things in Deltarune Chapter 2, which happened to coincide with a snowstorm in my state, which was absolutely terrifying. I might also play some more Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
MK8D and I'll try the Kingdom Hearts demo for me. I wish Pokemon Legends: Arceus had a demo...
Pokémon legends absolutely loving it.
NEO The world ends with you as I picked it up today from Game new £21.99.
Island of course.. I'm almost done with Karen's route!
@Donutsavant Resident Evil 5? I got it at a launch event 13 years ago and played it once. I got it for Switch last year and it's alright but I actually like 6 better and of course 7 and 8 are leagues better than all the Resident Evil games since the original trilogy. The Revelations games are pretty awesome though.
@shgamer Revelations 2 runs better on Switch than the PS3 version so I hear you there, lol
@JustMonika It runs very well on Switch yes, there are some occasional pop-ins of bushes mainly, but that's it. I've also got the PS3 and Vita versions (the latter is only recommended if you don't have a Switch, as it's pretty terrible).
Pokemon Legends!! SO GOOD, and I still can't believe I can bring my old friend Cyndaquil with me on the journey!!
Graphics aren't pretty, but the art style is lovely, and both the presentation and attention to detail are leaps and bounds ahead of Sword and Shield. And I say this with all sincerity that I have not enjoyed the storyline so much since Black & White! It's legitimately a good story so far!
Edit: plus, the one thing the graphics absolutely nails is the Pokemon themselves. When you're out in the wild and interacting with Pokemon, you forget about anything else because they just look and animate at such a higher quality in this game. Just so many mechanical improvements that I've wanted for a long time are all implemented in this one game and I can't be happier!
Arceus - My will is weak and there was too much FOMO to resist for more than 1 day. Downloading it now.
Sonic Colors - bought on sale recently and having fun.
Super Mario Maker 2 - 285 hours and counting.
I just finished the main story of Legends Arceus and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. The game is great in terms of gameplay, exploration, music, characters and story, Gamefreak nailed it on this one. I wasn't planning on rushing through the story but I was so intrigued on what will happen next so I decided to push on till the end. Nothing groundbreaking with the story but I really love it just as much as I loved Sun and Moon's story. The characters are also very likeable much like with SM and SWSH. Overall, it was an amazing game. Mainline game or not, this is one of the best Pokémon game Gamefreak has ever made.
My partner and I played Unpacking yesterday and today. Lovely game. Now we are about 3 hours into Pokemon Legends and I'm enjoying it now that I THINK I'm past the the majority of the training wheels. Will probably try to finish the last boss on Metroid Dread one more time this weekend as well....
I bought Pokemon Arceus launch day and, since then, the Switch (and the cartridge, obviously) have been kidnapped by my son. I'm not sure I can get i back anytime soon. Meanwhile:
Happy weekend you all!
Just started Animal Crossing this month. It doesn't seem like my kind of game but I'll give it some more time. I think I'm getting my house now instead of the cramped tent.
I've completed Reverie: Sweet As Edition and now I'm on to Bayonetta 2 which is awesome.
I finished The final final boss in Octopath Traveler! It took a lot longer than I expected... Now I'm free to play Pokemon Legends with my wife
What do you think?
Started my weekend and been playing a lot of Legends Arceaus and Psychonauts 2. What a great pair of games to be playing.
Happy gaming.
@charlieonholiday by catchin them all you mean, "gettin my A** handled by every raging one them" then thanks, lol
