Not that it would have occurred to me to look for his name in the credits, but I see this as a positive step toward the future. Yes, Miyamoto is a genius of legendary proportions but I don’t think it’s healthy for his grip to remain on everything Nintendo does as he’s focused away from games at this point. I also feel that his influence on the Zelda series eventually shifted from beneficial to damaging as his dogma of “gameplay is all that matters and story is a nuisance” has impeded the series lorebuilding.
One of my favorites of all time; it’s been too long since I’ve been able to play this one! I’ve been holding out for a remake/port but I guess I’ll have to spring for the GCN switch emulator at this rate.
Actually I’m going to be in a tent all weekend camping with my church people — not something I would ever choose to do on my own but I think my daughter will love being outside all day so… no games for me this week. I thought I might be able to finish The Messenger before we left but didn’t make it. I think I need like 15 more of the green medallions. Fun game!
I’m definitely in that last category there. I was excited about the DQIII remake because it’s such a revered game, and it was jussst fun enough to keep me in it for completion’s sake. But it really felt like an NES-era rpg. I don’t see myself getting the follow-ups here unless they go on sale for like $10..? Even then… Of the four DQ games I’ve played, they kept getting better and better.
@LikelySatan Yeah! I have now failed my messenger and obtained the map so it's like a totally different game now! Love the plot progression and out of the box elements!
@tgt it can get pretty obtuse — especially the optional treasure chests! Those are fun to solve (most of them anyway) but there’s basically no reward for it.
@LikelySatan it’s my first time. Great fun so far! I was ready for a platformer. I just beat the Emerald Golem and am in the spooky mushroom swamp place.
I still have no intention of slowing on Switch, as my backlog is years’ long and I probably can wait till Christmas for Switch 2. I suddenly started The Messenger today; playing in Japanese so that is good review for me and will slow down my playthrough a little. I also have been playing a little puzzler called railbound because it was cheap. It’s fine. I have tons more to get to eventually but realistically that’ll last me for the weekend.
@BirdoDidNothingWrong I’m with you on this. When it’s casual I enjoy the goofy chaos of it all, but once the skill level gets to intermediate my blood pressure is spiking and I’m stressed out about not being able to move the character like I want and I just have a terrible time. I love SSB in theory but it is too competitive for me to enjoy first hand.
Once in a while a game comes out that I can’t play on switch but actually looks compelling. Last time it was Eldin Ring, this time it is Clair Obscur. In the meanwhile I’m headed to the end of Y’s X: Nordics. It’s been fun but doesn’t reach the heights of Ys VIII. Up next on the backlog: people seem to like The Messenger, though I’m really in the mood for some Zelda.
I care about games more than consoles and the games I play are on Switch so no, it doesn’t affect me and I’m not intending to get Switch 2 right away anyway.
I liked Bam’s show back in the day. It was hard to see how badly things went for him and definitely still has rough effects from his unhealthy living but clearly he’s on a positive trajectory now rather than digressing.
Glad he has friends supporting him; cool of Hawk to insist on inclusion.
Doesn’t sound like he knows much about video games though! 😉
Finished the Excellent (though slightly disappointing in the late game) Tunic with the wife and have jumped back in to Y’s X: Nordics. I’m also very interested in Sea of Stars and The Messenger but we’ll see whether I actually follow through on one of those.
Can’t beat Zelda, though I must say I’ve lost a lot of enthusiasm for the series due to their recent treatment (outright disinterest) in the lore of the series. Golden Sun would be another dream come true with caveat: the DS sequel ruined the accomplishments of the original games.
Again, Pikmin would be great if it was less like 4 and more like 3 deluxe. I loved the multiplayer modes in 3 and do not care for the irrelevance of time management in 4.
So nothing’s perfect but those three are my favorites.
Still enjoying Y’s X: Nordics, but last night decided to see whether my wife would enjoy Tunic and it was a big hit! Even though she ended up surrendering the controller once enemy encounters were too challenging, we’re making it a team effort to progress. I’ve been wanting to try both of these games for a while and they are meeting all expectations.
I’m in favor of costs being less standardized as it’s so obvious that different games give vastly different experiences. It still cannot believe they charged the same for Link’s Awakening remake and Breath of the Wild, for example.
Speaking of which, I really resonate with the letter from @EarthboundBenjy about remakes and Link’s Awakening in particular. While there are some improvements like more collectibles, I overall consider it an inferior experience to the DX version. The photograph sidequest actually provided extra world-building content that is absent in the Switch remake.
I was really hoping they would drop a bombshell like a whole back-half of the island map to explore or something but no.. it was literally just the GB game with shinier graphics and less charm.
Finally dove properly into Y’s X: Nordics and am really loving it so far! I enjoy building up my ship+crew like making the castaway society in Y’s VIII. And who knew naval warfare could be so fun? Other games are mostly on hold, though I did play some Mario Party and Rayman Origins with my younger in-laws.
@FantasiaWHT while yes, we are interested, I’m sure you can see that the comment section on that kind of politically charged article would be an absolute madhouse.
While I don’t a anticipate getting the console on launch day, I think my biggest interests do far are DK Bananza, Eldin Ring, and Age of Imprisonment though I’m not sure that any of those are must haves — the only must have is Silksong.
Kind of a classy way for Nintendo to help their own people in the midst of economic woes that makes them poorer compared than western countries than they’ve been in decades. I don’t think it’s tariff-related, I think it’s just because Japanese can’t afford things that the tourists in Japan can.
Man it’s a lot of recycled content. “Here’s what you missed the past 5 years.”
So far there’s nothing to convince me to move on from my OG Switch, and I'm worried about the success of this system.
But the right games could change that…
For me, Twitter was a difficult beast to navigate back when I tried it nearly 10 years ago. I couldn’t figure out how to see and participate in interesting conversations back then and I never got back into it. The “forum” medium has always been the clearest way to interact with people on the internet for me.
@Servbot_EJ I did this with Switch and got one just 2-3 weeks after launch. Made for a fun memory too, with me getting the last one in the store and making the clerk say “oh you just answered my phone call for me” before he picked up the phone and said they just sold their last unit.
For anyone who remembers my past few weeks, while I have really been enjoying Tactics Ogre: Reborn (especially with my new powerhouse mages Cressida, Rudlum, and Deneb!), this weekend I no longer could resist diving in to Y’s X: Nordics, which I’ve been holding back from for many weeks. I’m also feeling a replay of the Shantae series on the horizon, but we’ll see whether I actually do that.
@OldGamer999 I am a single-console player and have rarely felt like I'm missing out, though it has happened once or twice. Mainly with Eldin Ring, though by now I'm not even sure if I would bother with a port since the hype passes and I realize I've had plenty to play without it.
@JohnnyMind I would think you'd be one of the most capable of waiting for a while if you have to, given your huge number of mid-process games you're balancing already!
@CorugatedZant Definitely the birthrate and aging population is the biggest challenge, but I also think think their economic decline can cause creative limitations to compile over time (without a feeling of security there can be aversion to innovation and risk) and their opposition to change is a double-edged characteristic. But I didn’t work with many creative field people in my interpreting career so maybe it’s not an issue in that field. Some of the old guard has talked about difficulty communicating with the younger employees though, so we’ll see what kind of content they end up producing.
Totally agree. It’s not necessarily that westerners crave Japanese tones specifically, though there certainly is some of that. I think it’s more that: 1) trying to “appeal” to certain demographics is inherently less genuine and captivating that creators being true to their own unique perspectives and inspirations. 2) consumers enjoy variety, and that includes cultural influences.
Though I must admit that trying to appeal to a foreign demographic has been shown to work before — I’m particularly thinking of the western-targeted Twilight Princess, which was the best-selling Zelda game upon its release.
The only concern I have is that “Japanese consumers” looks to be a shrinking market, judging by all the social troubles ailing Japan at present. What a tragedy it would be for that creative source in the industry to diminish.
@Meertallenkorrel I liked Yggdra Union but never could go deep into it — just too brutally hard! Felt like I had to play perfectly or would soft/lock myself out of healing items.
Got my sister back in Tactics Ogre: Reborn and and hope I can get Deneb somehow. I have 3 other games on my Switch just waiting their turn, but if I could actually finish TO:R this time that would be satisfying.
Many ways to answer this.. I’ve never played Stardew Valley but it seems like one you can spend the rest of your life playing? Tears of the Kingdom would be my preference in terms of the fun I had with them and length.
With Hollow Knight I could probably spend a lot of my life trying to perfect all the Godhome content.
Not much different than the past two weekends: Tactics Ogre: Reborn continues to hold my interest for now in Ch.IV. I dipped my toes into Y’s X: Nordics, but it remains mostly in the wings for now. Getting the itch for a run with my third nation in Brigandine: the Legend of Runesia too, but I may srpg out of that first. XD
Well said. Congratulations to you for overcoming cancer and my condolences to David and Telmo.
This generation has been astounding from day 1. They keep hitting home runs and giving us things we’ve always wanted. May that continue for the nect Switch too.

Re: Limited Run Games Says It's Found The Cause Of Switch 2's Carbon Engine Issues
Sounds like Nintendo is cooperating with them so that’s nice.
I have one LRG for my switch: Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia which I have enjoyed.
