@Yoshi3 I agree with your points, especially about wonderpick becoming almost useless. However I am approaching 1250 pack points for the Dialga / Palkia decks thanks to several months of stubbornly picking from that in hopes of getting (or buying) the Cyrus or Cynthia 2-star cards. I got Cyrus by luck so if I don't pull Cynthia the same way I'll spend my pack points there.
I'm with Rui about Switch 2. I hope it doesn't turn into another WiiU kind of situation for me (though obviously it's sold better). If they bring over WW and TP I'll probably make the leap.
Also with Captain Juan about the weekend polls! I'm always happy to see composite data!
I don’t have much interest in NES games but I do like to revisit the first two Zeldas now and then! Adventure of Link is probably my favorite NES games of all. Mario 3 is still a good time too. I don’t think I’m much interested in revisiting any others.
While I am excited to try Final Fantasy Tactics soon, it’s still all Silksong for now. I’m about 30 hours in so it’s going to be a while yet. Wonderful game.
A bit surprised about this, but good for Nintendo. I wonder if it will keep up? Personally I'm still waiting for the "must have" to move me on from my beloved OG Switch, which still has lots to keep me happily occupied.
@SpaceboyScreams lol good call on the condescending tone.
While they're at it could they please stop showing a trailer and then immediately showing it again while a developer describes everything?
Bowser always seemed less interesting and more “corporate” than Reggie. Hopefully this new woman can express a little more personality.
I fell for the hype on DQIII and spent 60USD on a pretty version of a 30-year old game.. won’t be suckered in this time.
V and XI were fantastic though.
If i sign up for NSO some day I guess I would try out Wario Land...? I already have the Labo VR so I think that problem would be solved. But I don't subscribe.
@raymond23 I respect that you can recognize what is and isn’t for you without trying to mandate that to others. I feel that way about Metroid Prime and Mario games.
It’s difficult but rarely in an unfair kind of way. I think everyone needs to chill out on their complaints because I don’t want Team Cherry feeling like they failed to deliver.
No one entitled to reach the end of a game and challenge is rewarding (though would be more so if the bosses dropped money or something).
I agree. I’m only >10 hours in but the challenge is part of the fun. I feel faster and stronger than HollowKnight but also things can turn against me suddenly, and I’ve lost my rosaries a few times already.
I lived Hollow Knight and Silksong is turning out to be everything I’d hoped for.
@AllBLK This game starts at a discount — $20 is a steal.
You'd spend 3x that for a Metroid game which, while fun, are less beautiful, way less content, and (for me) much less fun.
To be clear I'm not denying your right to your own tastes! But if you enjoy the genre at all Hollow Knight is the pinnacle.
A lot of reviews complain about “tedious dialogue” that drags on too long (thinking of Golden Sun too) but I think this is overblown in game review culture. If you aren’t in to the story of a game, aren’t you missing a major aspect of the game’s appeal? Like “level design, mechanics & gameplay, combat, puzzles, story, etc?”
I kind of think these criticisms are just a genre preference, or else a result of reviewers being on a time limit.
If that Scarlet Letter story is true it is absurd. Who thinks that is a “female only” book? The author was male. Are there people out there who think you should play / read / make works in which the protagonist is as much like yourself as possible?
Well said, well said. My only complaint was why they needed a big livestream to work everyone up into “Nintendo Direct” mindset just to say “September 4 everyone. Goodbye,”
But i know it’ll be a great game like its predecessor.
Ruffy and the Riverside is turning out to be a nice little romp; sort of reminds me of Banjo-Kazooie without the combat. I also started a replay of the excellent and quick Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse It’s nice to have an RPG break once in a while.
Quickly worked my way through a nice little MetVan Islets this week, so next on my agenda is Ruffy and the Riverside if it holds my interest. Otherwise I think I might actually spring for the expanded NSO to play the N64 and GBA Zelda games. I also hope to get my wife to finish Carto as soon as I can. My backlog is rich (and grew in the recent summer sale) but I feel like I’m making some progress.
FINALLY beat the main quest of Tactics Ogre: Reborn after 220hrs spread across roughly two years. It was definitely on and off for me but I enjoyed the end game with a host of charm-users. I might jump into the other timelines and post-game but I might put that off too.
Going through a cute little puzzler called Carto with the wife, and I’m keen to try out Islets as well.
But importantly I haven’t touched any Zelda games since completing EoW…
I’m kind of sad to hear this since he is the most dominant figure for the longest period of time in SSBM and going out like this doesn’t help the sport continue but well well. @abakadabra I think that’s a good insight. Participants may feel some level of pressure to “act drunk” for the content/performance side of things and behave even worse than they normally would have. @Lizuka I can only assume there is some correlation to the obsessive competitiveness it takes to make it in esports and a lack of respect for others’ boundaries and feelings.
I don’t care for these single-game directs. It worked for TotK because of the long anticipation and radical mechanics introduced, but ever since, i think it can just be included it in part of a full direct.
Not that it would have occurred to me to look for his name in the credits, but I see this as a positive step toward the future. Yes, Miyamoto is a genius of legendary proportions but I don’t think it’s healthy for his grip to remain on everything Nintendo does as he’s focused away from games at this point. I also feel that his influence on the Zelda series eventually shifted from beneficial to damaging as his dogma of “gameplay is all that matters and story is a nuisance” has impeded the series lorebuilding.
One of my favorites of all time; it’s been too long since I’ve been able to play this one! I’ve been holding out for a remake/port but I guess I’ll have to spring for the GCN switch emulator at this rate.
Actually I’m going to be in a tent all weekend camping with my church people — not something I would ever choose to do on my own but I think my daughter will love being outside all day so… no games for me this week. I thought I might be able to finish The Messenger before we left but didn’t make it. I think I need like 15 more of the green medallions. Fun game!
I’m definitely in that last category there. I was excited about the DQIII remake because it’s such a revered game, and it was jussst fun enough to keep me in it for completion’s sake. But it really felt like an NES-era rpg. I don’t see myself getting the follow-ups here unless they go on sale for like $10..? Even then… Of the four DQ games I’ve played, they kept getting better and better.
@LikelySatan Yeah! I have now failed my messenger and obtained the map so it's like a totally different game now! Love the plot progression and out of the box elements!
@tgt it can get pretty obtuse — especially the optional treasure chests! Those are fun to solve (most of them anyway) but there’s basically no reward for it.
@LikelySatan it’s my first time. Great fun so far! I was ready for a platformer. I just beat the Emerald Golem and am in the spooky mushroom swamp place.
I still have no intention of slowing on Switch, as my backlog is years’ long and I probably can wait till Christmas for Switch 2. I suddenly started The Messenger today; playing in Japanese so that is good review for me and will slow down my playthrough a little. I also have been playing a little puzzler called railbound because it was cheap. It’s fine. I have tons more to get to eventually but realistically that’ll last me for the weekend.
@BirdoDidNothingWrong I’m with you on this. When it’s casual I enjoy the goofy chaos of it all, but once the skill level gets to intermediate my blood pressure is spiking and I’m stressed out about not being able to move the character like I want and I just have a terrible time. I love SSB in theory but it is too competitive for me to enjoy first hand.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (18th October)
I've been way too busy to play any the past two weeks, so I hope to get in a little Silksong this weekend!

Re: Final Fantasy Tactics Launch Day Artwork Features A Special Triangle Strategy Crossover
@Serpenterror you should try Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis if you haven’t. I enjoy it more than the original T.O., personally.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th September)
My answer is only going to be Silksong for the foreseeable future, but I am excited about Final Fantasy Tactics coming this week

I’ll be excited for this whenever I get a switch 2. Switch one doesn’t have the same effect

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (30th August)
Replaying the Shantae Series (Risky Revolution was ok, not great) before the 7-year wait for Silksong is over!!
