Gen 2 Then played Gen 3, 4, 6 with diminishing returns. Gens 2-3 remain my favorite, though I always hear good things about 5. Started Let’s Go but couldn’t stay interested.
@YoshiF2 Dungeons are but one of the various reasons Zelda games can be great. WW also has weak dungeons but is pretty stellar in other regards. BotW’s heights are master achievements.
I played it a lot in the first 2 months I guess but it started becoming more of a chore than a game to me.. also I felt like there wasn’t enough interactivity with my neighbors. Always felt like they’re doing their own thing but don’t really care about me. Whatever that means.
While I’ve always been irritated and confused by his SSB representation, I hadn’t considered 3 distinct eras before. Very interesting. I hope we can go back to his non-gross days again..
I was really interested to hear about the reasons Harvest Moon had declined, but this article’s characterization of marriage options as a significant contributing factor is like saying that people don’t like Disney’s StarWars because there aren’t yellow lightsabers.
@KoiTenchi as a massive Zelda fan who’s always heard that Okami is on-par, I was really disappointed; especially with the combat. Couldn’t last past the 10hr mark, personally
@EarthboundBenjy personally I found the lore of Portal 2 to be a lot better. I was constantly intrigued about what was going on, whereas the first portal had a much simpler plot. Portal 2 made me want to know more in ways that the original didn’t as much.
Played it just a few years ago and was blown away by the storytelling. Way above the typical DQ fare, especially for that era. Although in typical DQ fashion there’s not much buildup to the true boss.
I’ve always said LA because it’s one of the easier games, it has a decent story that isn’t so redundant as the “3 items then Master Sword then more dungeons the Ganon” formula that got recycled a few too many times. For people saying LttP, I don’t think that is accessible to the average beginner.
I was really curious about Triangle Strategy but didn’t hear much buzz after release so…? I love Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis so the Reborn game is a day 1 purchase for me.
I’m no “collector” but I do love my map of Weyard that came with Golden Sun TLA. The Zelda Oracles’ manuals are nice too, with a lot of official character art that isn’t in the game.
@moodycat one thing that helped me is the users on the subreddit suggesting that you shouldn’t invest charm points on healing because it’s better to learn to avoid the attacks. However I will say the Uun charm can be a lifesaver.
@seaboyluca yet a surprising number of people have done it. I myself am not a completionist when it entails crazy grinds or challenges, and never saw myself getting more than a “true final boss” ending in HK. But somehow the combat gripped me enough to complete 4 of the pantheons and nab the 112% completion. Would like to get the full full completion with that last pantheon but, eh… I hit my limit I think. Maybe some day.
@Dinglehopper I feel you but have always had the opposite case because I grew up with the PC version and while Carnival and Ice Cap don’t really register (and I prefer the Genesis track there) I really love the prototype track for Launch Base Zones
I grew up on the PC port and personally always have preferred that version of Launch Base to the Genesis one; it was one of my favorites and I was shocked when I played subsequent compilations (I guess the Collection for PS2/GCN) and it wasn’t there. The other two zones though I think the genesis / “Jackson” versions are better.
For those asking for Martinet, he does a great job on the character phrases but can you honestly picture his Mario doing multiple full-sentence dialogue? That rising pseudo-Italians intonation gets annoying on repeat.
@Rainz I started with Pirate's Curse and I still think it's the best. Half-Genie Hero is second for me, followed by Seven Sirens. The first two are a little clunky imo, but Risky's Revenge might actually be a perfect starting point.
Not sure if that helps you decide where to start, but it's something!
Had some fun times with powerstone! Ōkami was kind of boring, personally, and I couldn’t stick with it. Viewtiful Joe was nice but I question how it would work in today’s indie-rich landscape.
@Andy_C444 For me, keeping it Nintendo exclusive is a matter of restraint — I don’t have time to play all the amazing games out there, so I streamline by limiting my options just to what’s available on Switch (which is already too much honestly.) Though I will admit Eldin Ring nearly broke me on that minimalist ideal….
I enjoyed that game for about 6 months and kept plugging away at it for quite a bit longer… what a waste of time that was! Surprised it’s still going tbh but good for I.S.
I recently gained a relative who is missing an arm, and I’ve been surprised at how she can do most things that other people do but video games are pretty much not an option. The joy cons are nice and small, which helps, but still most games require two hands to play. It’d be nice to see more options for control adjustment for people like her.

Re: Feature: The Top 15 Legend Of Zelda Dungeons Of All Time, Ranked
Personally I’d probably go with Snowhead in MM or one of the latter Oracles dungeons, but there are many great ones.

Now there’s a mighty hot take.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 12th)
Tactics Ogre Reborn!

A rare preorder for me.
I loved Knight of Lodis for GBA and have been hoping for the series to come back ever since.

Re: Feature: From Hypnosis To Farts, What Happened To The Wario We Met 30 Years Ago?
@PtM I don’t necessarily need him to be cool, but I don’t enjoy the “he’s foul and stinky! Watch him shake his butt and be gross!” version.

@Burning_Spear oh yeah I definitely appreciate being able to dock it and show/play with friends! I just don’t relate to those who ONLY play docked ^^

I am increasingly alienated from people who say they don’t use the handheld mode.

My answer has been the same for the past 3 years:
BotW2, Silksong, Pikmin 4
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Wave Race 64
NA looks more exciting
Re: Random: We've Been Waiting Over Half A Decade For A "New" Mainline Zelda Game
