Looks like I’m a minority here but Mario hasn’t excited me for a long time. I’m glad they’re doing something different with this one but I doubt it will end up in my library.
2D Sonic is my jam and I think they’ve learned some lessons from Mania which was almost what I wanted but too derivative. I have optimistic expectations for Superstars.
I’ve felt like the indie retro thing was kind of over saturated so wasn’t really interested in this, but there is a demo, so if it’s really that good….
While I certainly don’t feel entitled to anything (the game is more than enough as is), I also don’t find these giveaways worth the effort of opening the game some way other than I always do.
I love both oracles and agree with this review. I do want to say, however, that the visuals are significantly improved from LADX. Smaller details, more vibrant colors, and much more original mechanics and content. OoA is top 5 in my book
I played the original way back when and it was pretty fun! Not mercilessly difficult like the rest of the Dpt. Heaven series. Yggdra Union was fun but too difficult for me.
I’ve been holding this in, but the 2019 remake was a big disappointment for me. The decision to show the player past the area they are in and into whatever’s beside it destroys a lot of the mystery and illusion of scale the original devised.
As for the other two, it’s a toss-up. I don’t love the colors chosen for DX,, and the color tunics are unnecessary for an already easy slate of bosses. and I like how the “no deaths” ending of OG <spoiler> makes Marin grow wings rather than transform into a seagull …but the photo quests add a lot of character and charm.
@rokboxapopolis I guess with any art form I’d say it’s kind of for both. The voice of the masses usually doesn’t produce the best product, but creators do have to take their audience into consideration.
As kids we don’t realize that game workds are just limited to what the programmers decided to make. We look at it like the real world, so those things off in the distance actually are just as “real” and the places the game lets you explore. It does make the games feel more real and infinite, and it’s a nice piece of childhood innocence/wonder. Incidently, this is why I hate the new Link’s Awakening letting you see over the walls into different areas. It breaks the immersion and reveals how artificial and compact the world is.
Why can’t people just stick with the creators’ plan? What do they gain by playing 2 weeks before the rest of us? Seems like breaking rules just because you can.
This seems like a good way to limit the survivability of worldwide copies, but I guess the game is accessible in other forms so it won’t ever truly be lost
“[Ganondorf]
Only once every hundred years, a male is born in the female-only Gerudo tribe. He seems to have some connection to the cataclysm which struck Hyrule…”
Making the princess “strong and confident, with real agency” has been called innovative since before any of us were born. And I guess it’s going to generate articles even long after we’re dead.
Of course Kanji looks great, but I don’t like all the other clutter (“Gameboy Advance” in two languages, “for 1-2 players”, “A fantasy RPG” … though one could argue that the western version does the same with the giant GBA margin and the silly “seal of quality”
@tseliot this isn’t talking about most games, it’s about Spirit Tracks where she accompanies Link for the entire adventure. If you haven’t tried it I would definitely recommend — very humorous Princess Zelda!
@Polvasti Pretty sure that wasn’t the case 5 years ago, as it was retroactively confirmed with the DLC. Many of us never got around to that addition years after the first playthrough. I wouldn’t have known, as I only discovered after seeing your comment and researching it a bit. Seems like the creator is self-inserting some, which is their prerogative.
I’ve never sympathized with complaints about this mechanic, as I think it has an immensely positive impact on the gameplay, making you adapt and have variety. But I’d be open to however they push it in new direction.
Also I must be one of the only Zelda fans who doesn’t give a crap about the Master Sword. 😅
I like both — it’s great not having to handle cartridges and switch them out for different games. but physical takes less storage on my SD, has a sense of permanent ownership, and I can lend it to other people to play or sell it if I don’t want it anymore.
@BenAV out of curiosity, which others of the genre do you rank highly? I’m interested in Ender Lillies but haven’t been quite convinced to purchase yet.
Hardcore 20+year Zelda fan here. I’m on board with this theory. It definitely seems like there will be some connections with SS and it seemed like Aonuma was intentional to get people as familiar with SS as possible with the remake and the way it was announced.

Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games As Of June 2023
I’ve been waiting for this update ever since they declared TotK’s 10million sales! Kind of surprised it hasn’t reached 20 actually
Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Oracle Of Seasons & Oracle Of Ages - Which Should I Play First?
Overall I think Ages is the better start, but Ages second provide a bit more challenge for the linked finale as you will have weaker items to use.

@Mrkittyhead They are based on that LA engine and in my opinion they are superior to it in every way other than plot.

Correct answer is Golden Sun!
FZero is not exciting

Still fully in tears. 125 korok seeds and I still haven’t found Hestu 😭

Pumped about this game, but character customization is not something I need or care about in the least.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Updating Your Copy Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
I like to play games as their creators intend, generally.
Re: Random: Nintendo Embraces Mortal Kombat In Stark Contrast To '90s Censorship
I find the violence juvenile and disturbing
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
American one is boring
Spirit Tracks had a similar situation. NOA likes dull colors.

I also would like to see the sources for these numbers

Re: Mario Movie Jack Black Song 'Peaches' Debuts On Billboard's Hot 100 Chart
I don't really get the hype around this "song" when it's really more of a musical gag that gets interrupted before being anything...

If anyone needs translation:

Re: Talking Point: With One Month 'Til TOTK, What's Left For You To Do In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild?
To my knowledge, it’s just 30 more koroks and I never got a perfect score the horseback archery minigame for the horse armor (or helmet, whichever).
I get on about once per year to roam around and have fun, and usually find about 3-5 in those sessions.

Not bad!
For me, 1.BotW 2.WW 3.OoA 4.MM 5.OoT

That’s a little TOO inspired, if you ask me. Might try it though

No complaints on the top two, but Zelda is definitely one of the most memorable in the series

Re: Poll: Fire Emblem Engage Is Out On Switch This Week, Are You Getting It?
No thanks. Somehow doesn’t feel like a proper title to me; more like a spin-off.

Re: Random: Could Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Be The Final Part Of A Trilogy Of Zelda Games?
@sleepinglion from the trailers, it looks like we may be encountering two Links in this game. Toga guy might be SS Link or a descendent.
