Re: Digimon Story Time Stranger Switch Version Includes Free Switch 2 Update

DarkScythe13

Coming here from reading the Super Bomberman Collection release page, questioning why the Switch 2 version costs more than the Steam version (and is a paid upgrade over the Switch 1 version despite being a fresh launch and emulated games) and was already quite miffed. Then I see this, and it makes that all the worse.

That said, I didn't know this was coming out. I would have held off playing it otherwise. Already completed it on Steam. Very good game. Might wishlist it for a replay eventually.

Re: Super Bomberman Collection Out Now On eShop, Full Cart Release Coming In August

DarkScythe13

An interesting surprise. I thought these would never get a proper release. That said, the price is for the Switch 2 version is like $12 (AUD) more than the Steam version. For that reason I'm going to wait for a sale. I don't see why this keeps bloody happening. I got the Switch 2 on launch day. I appreciate the performance boosts and visuals for some games. But bs like this is unnnecessary and off-putting.

Also, it is a pity there is no Saturn Bomberman. I'd have loved to finally give it a try given its reputation.

Re: Talking Point: When Did 'Good Enough' Become Good Enough For Pokémon?

DarkScythe13

I initially skipped Gen IV (save for Heart Gold) and Gen V, coming back from Gen VI before going back to the others. XY did so much right for me. I loved the massive dex, the inclusion of old and new, the then fresh 3D models, Friend Safari’s for shiny hunting (albeit tracking friend codes was a bit of a pain). OR/AS might have lost a bit but felt like a great remake and included enough to feel big with the island flying stuff.

But for me, Sun snd Moon somehow felt more boring. I didnt enjoy the Z-Crystal gimmick and that gen made me pause mid playthrough as i found it hard to keep interest. It fell flat for me.

And then from Gen 8 onwards i feel like theres an identity crisis. I think suddenly its a lot harder to cater to expectations on wanting free roaming, but what worked traditionally (less is more routes in handheld) also just felt like an issue.

On the other hand I loved Lets Go (save for lack of wild battles) and Legends Arceus especially. ZA has some great ideas but the wild zones arent enough. I honestly dont know what i want from a Pokemon game anymore. At the very least, for all the crap Arceus gets, i felt it ran well enough. Scarlett Violet prior to Switch 2 on the other hand felt utterly broken. I suppose at the very very least, i want better optimised games. That was a bug thing lost from 3ds.the switch games feel increasingly rough. Even BDSP has constant hitbox issues that prevent me appreciating it.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Version 2.0.1 Is Now Live On Switch 2, Here's What's Included

DarkScythe13

@Yosher I suspect I am around the middle point of the game. I think the first part of the game is a bit deceptive in how simple it comes across as, but it's one of those games where as you start to gain more abilities / resources to make 'hunting' easier , and as you become more familiar with the 'logic' of the game (where collectibles are likely to be placed) things start to come together a bit more.

I don't love the game (i.e. not one I am consistently playing), but it's enough for me to revisit every now and then for more progress. There is an element of Odyssey to it with its power moons, but feels also a bit like Banjo Kazooie in certain ways too. The 'digging' can feel a bit hit and miss for me in terms of satisfaction, but I can kids just really loving that, and it is kind of a neat idea in general.

Re: Bubsy's Physical Switch Collection Pre-Orders Open Later This Week

DarkScythe13

I unironically have a soft spot for the first game, partly because there was a game show here that featured it amongst other SNES games (including Super Mario Kart, Super Mario Allstars (SMB3), Plok! et al.). That said it would be nice if it got some actual rebalancing and improvements (hitpoints, widescreen so you can see off screen etc).

Also wish rather than taking the lazy route, that they'd try to somehow release the AMD/ATI version "Super Bubsy" that was released on PC in the 90s also. It had great redrawn sprites but has faded into obscurity. THAT should be the starting point for some kind of remastering.

Re: Video: Mortal Kombat II Official Trailer Released, In Cinemas This October

DarkScythe13

Honestly this looks like a lot of fun and everything the first movie should have been.

Kano basically stole the show in the first movie and the initial confrontation between Scorpion and Sub-Zero was great, but the rest was weighed down by the Cole character and the limited amount of locales featured..

They've made a very smart choice by featuring Karl Urban / Johnny Cage for this trailer. They've shown way more interesting locales. Shao Khan's design actually looks pretty cool here. About the only thing that kind of seems off is a lack of the younger Sub-Zero brother, but I guess considering how the first movie presented him, maybe it just wouldn't really fit to have that whole plot line?

If that's the case then its an okay sacrifice, especially with how easy it would be for the plot to become even more convoluted and otherwise something more akin to Mortal Kombat Annihilation or X-Men 3 (too many cameos and fighter squeezed in). I think what we have here so far looks pretty good.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Comes To Switch And Switch 2 In 2025

DarkScythe13

@Serpenterror from memory Mortal Kombat Advance was basically poor port of like UMK3 rather than specifically a bad entry. Not that the MK series has a shortage of titles, nor critically panned ones. GBA port was bad it was practically unplayable with how the CPU player acted - and that's in a series (again) with cheap CPU behaviours.

Re: Opinion: Nightdive Studios Had Its Best, Most Prolific Year Yet In 2024

DarkScythe13

I'm glad we got KEX Doom and really enjoyed Legacy of Rust + mod support and the release of all the cut content. But at the same time, I'm glad Dark Forces finally got some love after all these years. I think that was the best release, right down to the remastered content. Granted we had Lucius' 'The Force Engine' as a way of playing but DF definitely needed it more, and hopefully it paves the way for the underrated and underappreciated Outlaws.

Re: Some Fans Aren't Happy About Sonic X Shadow Generations' Changes To The Original

DarkScythe13

I understand theres a need for more positive female role models in media, but it's more about balance than rewriting or reshaping every character to fit a new mould. There are male characters of varying flirtiness and sleaziness (the extent of what is acceptable is very much an important consideration), but on the flip side, while tweaking or toning down elemebts of Amy's behaviour is fair, its not like her obsession with Sonic needs to be dropped either or whatever. We can have characters who are exceptional like that. There are other female characters, arguably a need for more, and who can fill more niches. Thats my take on that sort of thing. I think there is a bit of an annoying issue in media that female characters in general have to be perfect or set an unrealistic standard to the point that they become boring cause they're made to be 'perfect'. It leaves little room for growth or nuance. Meanwhile its a problem of male characters to serve as a foil or otherwise as the problem. Sometimes even a stand in to be faulty or inept because of the standard set. Again i think there just needs to be some better balancing

Re: Review: Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS)

DarkScythe13

@Thomystic Dread is arguably a masterpiece and one which basically improved so many of the issues present in this game. The fluidity of the movement and controls especially.

Of all the Wii U and 3DS ports we have seen I lament the lost opportunity for a remaster of this at tjis point of the Switch’s life. It could have taken on much of the improvements and refinements within Dread and been far better for it IMO.

Re: Round Up: Limited Run Games Showcase 2024 - Every Switch Announcement & Physical

DarkScythe13

Ngl. Im interested to see what comes of Bubsy as I played the hell out of the first. That said Super Bubsy existed and i wish it was those t they used here. While they say they fixed some isssues, frankly providing hitpoints would have been a major fix along with widescreen to see oncoming threats and not be blindsided. Those would have been gamechangers. Emulation is lazy these days.

GEX i at least played the first one and thought it hadmsome interesting ideas and gimmicks. I remember the day night toon world level especially.

Rugrats looks like an interesting surprise though knew nothing of the original it is based off. Fighting Force i did poay. Its been so long (played a kid) but i thought it was okay

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door?

DarkScythe13

A 9 for the framerate mainly and a little for some of the longer unskippable dialogue sessions. The writing is generally a treat but the gag of long winded rambling from NPCs gets a bit old at times in particular. The 30fps cap is noticeable imo also.

Otherwise its as fun as i remember it. Paper Mario with a feeling of progression and fun gameplay. As it should be. With memorable characters and charming graphics. Call the sequels what you want (I have a softspot for Super Paper Mario and feel it underrated) but games like Sticker Star lacked heart, and Origami King’s battle system was uninteresting.

Re: Game Boy Emulator Developer Permanently Removes App From Google Play Store

DarkScythe13

In the case of Yuzu (being both a current gen console emulated and the raiding donations) I can understand why it garnered that level of negative attention from Nintendo.

But in the case of older systems, I am very much in support of game preservation. While things are a tad better (we even had a Bill and Ted collection), look at the wealth of 3rd party games exclusively on older systems that have long since faded from memory for example. Emulation keeps some of those games alive and accessible where they would become otherwise further forgotten.

What doesnt help also is that we no longer have the great Virtual Console services of old. We have NSO that is slow to add and tied to subscription features not everyone uses.itd be nice if there was a more effective way that game conpanies could facilitate in encouraging official lasting channels of old game services that could cover or encourage coverage of more than what we get.

Perhaps the worst thing by far is how limited licensing is. We had a fantastic opportunity in having games like Xmen and Simpson's arcade games and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 on XBLA - then they become delisted and lost. If not for how limited and easily worn out the 360 controllers got I would have kept a 360 for those games but even when given the chance we inevitably lose such games.

Re: Switch Emulator Yuzu To Pay $2.4 Million To Nintendo & Cease Development

DarkScythe13

It’s one of those things that genuinely feels uncomfortable though - having an emulator of a current gen console still thriving.

Had we moved onto the next console gen and we saw EB Games / Gamestop move to what happened with previous gen games (a small niche section of a few second hand games) I would think more of an argument at least could be made for it.

I am definitely all for game preservation. While in theory having a functional emulator up and running early isn’t a bad idea in itself (and i certainly hope the fruits of it in some way can help down the track), it is kind if a problem now..

A shame about Citra though. The 3DS IS practically dead now so that is more of a loss IMO.

Re: Review: Disney Illusion Island - Mickey Mouse's Metroidvania Is Magical

DarkScythe13

In many ways it sounds interesting. My partner and I got it last week and I've yet to sit down with it. I like the idea of a Metroidvania style. Tbh the only disappointment I personally feel is the art style. Theres just something I really appreciate about World of Illusion.

I also would have really loved to have seen something akin to Cuphead but early Disney style. In fact considering Cuphead difficulty and inaccessibility for many younger players, I feel there might have been a very real opportunity here, but I suppose a lot more work would have had to go into it, and this newer style prob reasonates more with those watching the newer show.

EDIT - @Switch_Pro While i don't disagree re thoughts on the graphics and modern tastes, at the same time I can't help but think animation has had to evolve to suit modern tastes. I was never a fan of the animation style of shows like Adventure Time but i guess its more efficient to animate and if kids today are satisfied or identify more with it, I feel like its just something I need to come to terms with or learn to look past.

Personally I was reluctant with the designs of Rick & Morty, Spectacular Spider-Man and certain other shows, but looking past the visual style, I found something to appreciate. I expect it'll prob be that way for me with this game.

Re: Microsoft CEO Says He Would "Love To Get Rid Of" Exclusives On Consoles

DarkScythe13

The way I see it, the 16 bit era often showed why console exclusives were sometimes necessary. Think of many SNES games that took full advantage of the SNES rendering hardware that could not have been done or Mega Drive, or some of the benefits (from memory) of the MD or differences in soundchips etc.

I feel theres more potential for innovation and optimisation where devs are in a position to take full advantage of specific consoles and hardware. Its what we need to see more of. This change in attitude re development and prioritising visuals really wasted the potential of the Wii U and even switch to an extent. Theres some great hardware and design choices (the Wii U was literally everything the Wii was PLUS a gamepad with a touch screen, still with 1080p graphics from memory. Its a shame its about covering as many bases as possible (yes it makes sense from a business standpoint also but), but stifling creativity and optimisation.

For me Mario games are the hallmark in justifying exclusivity gaming quality. Nintendos careful hardwork, dedication and passion to the games and how they best use the relevant consoles stand in contrast to say Sonic being on multiple consoles and (even in cases like Generations where theyre still really fun) end up being rough around the edges and lacking careful polish.

Re: Review: Sonic Origins Plus - Not Bad, But Sonic Still Deserves Better

DarkScythe13

@samuelvictor I mean I notice 2D Mario games (and some Yoshi games) are the type that often reuse some of the same ‘set pieces’ so to speak but throw a new level gimmick or feature a new object or two as the focus. DK Country was the same also, and its kind of the fundamental appeal of Mario Maker itself with selectable themes etc.

Sonic levels are dedicated expansive zones that throw their obstacles and gimmicks at you in full for two (or three acts). You dont often revisit them in the same way (save for Scrap Brain Act 3 - even Hill Top Zone despite being a palette swap of some graphics changes enough of the actual level to be its own thing).

Re: Review: Sonic Origins Plus - Not Bad, But Sonic Still Deserves Better

DarkScythe13

Heavily disappointed that the menus were entirely untouched and that the most we get is one unlockable image and some extra tutorial info for cheats.

I want cheats to remain unlocked as options! I know its not hard to input the S1 cheat complete with extras, but why isnt Sonic & Tails, plus emerald 7, Sonic 3 shields + instashield etc all options like Mania kind of had for playthroughs? I dont like that the leaderboard stuff is still not a dedicated time attack mode (rather than a ‘try again button’. The menus were always poorly thought and and deserved reworking.

Honestly the fan ports/decompilations were always going to be superior based on mods and options alone, but the fact the Origins menus and play options just arent useful enough and they wont allow some of the best bonuses to just be features even when they had the chance to rectify it is pretty lame. Make S1 no spindash, emerald 7 and & Tails mode options!

Edit: one minor change im mixed on is that saves for individual characters remain (i.e. complete) but unlike Sonic 3 and Sonic Mania you dont get some sort of cool mini level select which i always felt was a fantastic reward to have upon completion.

Re: Feature: 17 Reasons To Be Excited About The Super Mario RPG Remake

DarkScythe13

I loved SMRPG the first time I played it. I couldnt believe what we had been missing out on at the time in PAL regions! The only small issue (area of improvement) I had with the original compared to Paper Mario games was the minimal feedback at times in combat which I felt could be improved to be more reactive and animated (there was kind of a delay with everything although that may have been the intent i guess).

Re: Sonic Fans Are Already Really Mad About Sonic Origins Plus

DarkScythe13

I had no expectation of a custom Super Amy sprite. As stated no other characters get that special treatment and it’s specifically a reference to Super Saiyan. I really think people expect too much there. It’s enough that shes playable and has a super state.

As for the character select screen, I think simply having each base character and toggling Tails or Knuckles in would have worked - even Knuckles and Knuckles like Mania.

Im not expecting it but the main thing id like to see is some of the sound test option cheats remaining as toggleable play options like mania has. I want Sonic + Tails and Emerald 7 unlocked by default.

Re: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy Announced For Nintendo Switch

DarkScythe13

Was tempted to grab this on 3DS before store closure but I wanted to be consistent in having the whole series on Switch. That and I’d rather play it on console rather than handheld. Glad I waited. I finished the original trilogy and chronicles, so i’m very much looking forward to this!

@Kumite i was curious about this also. According to wiki there are two remaining side (Investigations) games yet to released. One of them was never released in English.

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Sonic Superstars Are In

DarkScythe13

@mereel Mario and Zelda games have a lot of love, care and polish put into just about every aspect, where Sonic is frequently rushed out, lacks polish and has occasionally interesting ideas with flawed execution. SEGA often fail to make believers out of their fans.

That said parts of Unleashed, Colours and (especially most of Generations) have strong fan support and I hear Frontiers is actually quite liked. Personally there were parts of Sonic Lost World i didnt mind, and the Adventure series have some really nice parts that fans like also. I dont think fans are averse to changes, but its up to SEGA to make it work. While i commend some of SEGA’s willingness to try new things, I never quite see anything akin to Froggy fishing in mario games, and for good reason.

@Gamelore what do you mean by worst parts? The trailer doesnt really demonstrate much in terms of level design. Its about as barebones as in that regard as early Origins trailers; mainly characters running along while hinting at a few wisp like abilities (which at least in regards to the waterfall one didnt really seem to capture it very well).

@Banjo- I appreciated a lot of NSMB, at least at first but over time i felt the sequels kind of showed limits and flaws of that series. I missed the colours and environments of the SNES graphics. 3D Land I felt did a better job in areas tbh in terms of colours and some of the classic elements. When I saw NSMBU graphics in Mario Maker I always felt it was the most boring style. I wanted to see a style change from the same reused 3D models. i find super princess peach and some of the yoshi games to be more interesting visually. I like how World, the original Super Mario Bros series (expecially their depictions in Allstars) each look different and made the games feel distinct and fresh. I like how different even 16 bit sonic games are from each other. To me thats one of the best things (gameplay aside) about classic platformer series. The distinct visuals. The original Yoshi’s Island in particular holds up really well.

Re: Pokémon HOME Support Release Date For Scarlet And Violet "Mistakenly Announced"

DarkScythe13

@bystanderx79 depends on the criticisms and what your interpretation of ‘bringing down the community’’. Those behaviours to me are basically those that make death threats or that basically turn it from a debate into a volatile argument that degenerates into petty personal insults.

In the case of at least some of those criticising, theyre from fans who are frustrated with where Pokemon has been heading. They are passionate and want better. As far as I’m concerned, so long as they back up their criticisms with actually reasoning other than simply stating ‘it sucks, everything sucks then im not seeing the issue.

On the one hand, If i dont care for the community discourse, I usually just tune out and let people do their thing. Why should it matter if i see something debated over and over? I dont feel entitled enough to determine how others should feel. Whinging about whinging is whinging too. On the other hand, there are ongoing examples of experiences where communities continue to make criticisms like in Pokemon GO (and ive been one of those people) given the nature of the game being frequently updated and the course of the game always changing. People in that community make the same claims you have, but if people hadnt raised their concerns some of the good remaining features of the game would have been ripped out. How does one give feedback or let devs know their stance if they ‘stop whinging’?

Re: Pokémon HOME Support Release Date For Scarlet And Violet "Mistakenly Announced"

DarkScythe13

@Munchlax Agree. This sort of debate becomes the same tired old thing. Some people are preachy and hypocritically take the chance to publicly 'whinge about whingers' because 'their experience of satisfaction is affected'. On the other hand I guess some people take the criticisms a bit too far at times. I felt the backlash on Legends Arceus was frankly overblown - it runs better than Scarlet/Violet and I'd rather the lowered graphics in that game and in what it achieves.

The state of this game for the most part has been far buggier than many previous Pokemon experiences (even on Switch). It should not be immune to criticism. I played through and I still felt enough satisfaction, but I don't feel a need like others to go around being preachy about others' negative experiences. It's possible to enjoy a game but still acknowledge its flaws and allow others to express their feelings of it. But this attitude of 'criticism = whining' is always tiresome.

Re: Super Bomberman R 2 Explodes Onto Switch This September

DarkScythe13

I'll likely check it out mainly for the single player component. I used to enjoy playing the SNES Super Bomberman 2 in multiplayer, but I've always preferred the story modes, especially of those earlier games.

Also I might be the only one but (including the XBLA Bomberman games and first Super Bomberman R games) I always can't help but prefer and miss the sprites and artwork of the original Super Bomberman series. I find the persective to be more workable and the those games I felt just tended to be a lot easier to see whats going on.

With each passing title, part of me really wants to see more of a throwback title

Re: Talking Point: The Super Mario Bros. Movie - What Are Your Favourite Moments?

DarkScythe13

@JohnnyMind to me thats the thing though:

For 99% of the movie, shes flawless and unperturbed. Yes there is a pay off in the Mario Bros. taking centre stage in the last battle. But it seemed like they avoided her in anyway making any mistakes or facing any real danger. She escapes the Mario Kart mission on her own terms. She hands herself in for the sake of someone else (Toad). When they have a chance to humanise her re the obstacle course and about how she spent her whole life there re her abilities etc, I felt the scene was unnecessarily spoiled by the last comment. When in the custody of Bowser’s minions, she breaks free on her own terms (and basically counterattacks).

Again don’t get me wrong, Im not suggesting all of these things are entirely a problem in themselves. Its a perfectly fine story point that she grew up there. I like that she’s capable and competent. But i also would have liked to see more to her character. Even a bit more fallability. A bit like how well intentioned Lisa Simpson (in the right episodes), for all her intelligence/cleverness can still make mistakes or have something to learn. What if at a pivotal moment she miscalculated with her plans for example? The closest (I’d say) is her own general kindness in taking Mario under her wing re the obstacle course (leading to her delaying her plan) or loyalty to her subjects in not wanting them come to harm ( if you count that).

The parts i liked most was when she get to open up and the character interactions with Mario. When shes allowed to be more than just a ‘badass princess’. You get the sense that she’s excited to finally meet another human for example. You see her and Mario genuinely build and share a nice connection. Acing the obstacle course or kicking arse in Mario Kart is entertaining and works well, but personally i want more from her character than ‘perfection’.

Re: Talking Point: The Super Mario Bros. Movie - What Are Your Favourite Moments?

DarkScythe13

Personally i don’t really understand peoples disappointment with the film, but then I entered with relatively lower expectations and left relatively satisfied. Maybe thats a difference for people (others may have expected way from a modern Mario). There was more than enough of a serviceable story, although wish the pacing was a bit slower and sat with the characters longer, as there were some genuinely nice character interactions.

About my only criticism (aside from the pacing) was that (similar to Mistaire Fusion’s youtube thoughts) is that (like the trailers indicated), Peach was a little too perfect. Dont get me wrong, I liked her for the most part (she was a likeable character and had good moments) but felt they went too much in the other direction. Case in point, Peach and Mario have kind of a nice talk after the obstacle course from the trailer, but it was spoiled by the last comment. Or just generally avoids any real danger (more a matter of ‘others being in danger and being forced to concede or help’).

I think its sometimes a running problem where that in trying to empower a a female character like Peach, they become too perfect and flawless, whereas its much more satisfying seeing more human traits and needs in characters. Its certainly an issue for a character to be defined by their need to be saved. But its very human to sometimes fall or fail and need support from others. Its as if showing genuine vulnerability in a female character (especially if a male of any sort of character would need to help) has become entirely taboo. Characters can be strong and flawed. It’s not dichotomous. I think Hollywood has a lot to learn about finding that sweet spot, rather than avoiding it outright.

Re: Poll: What Score Would You Give To The Super Mario Bros. Movie?

DarkScythe13

One or two gripes but overall a fun experience with love and care celebrating the IP. I really dont get many of the reviews all parroting the same thing - its basically uninspired etc. Sonic did something different and mostly did it well but did we really need another another live action film like the original though? Plus Sonic often has that depiction of them entering the human world from their own so it worked better for that.

Not that i dislike the original one but some reviewers are actually singing its praises for what it tried by comparison. Frankly this is about as great as feature Mario film prob could have been. Solid 8/10 from me.

Re: Indie Dev Headcannon Confirms It Helped Sega Update Sonic Origins Plus

DarkScythe13

Thats really encouraging to hear. I was cautiously optimistic re improvements in quality, but knowing Headcannon have been able to help in 'making it the best it can be' has got me more excited to see the results. Still kind of wish/hope we can see the sound test cheats remaining unlocked once found though. 7 emerald & Sonic +Tails mode in Sonic 1 should be an option, not a cheat.

Re: Sonic Origins Plus Will Apparently Fix Some Pesky Bugs

DarkScythe13

Well that’s more something to look forward to first and foremost for me. This collection deserved far better than it was on launch. Now I just wish they’d do what they did with Mania and create an option for us to enable sound test options as features rather than requiring us to re enter them. Even better, let us have the Mania save menu (based on Sonic 3) with options on a per save basis. Having Amy is nice and all. But I want this to really be the best classic collection possible.

Re: Best Of 2022: Why Can't Nintendo Offer Both Virtual Console And Switch Online?

DarkScythe13

I end up missing the previous generations take on VC games with every generation. I loved the Wii’s range of VC games. I thought it was incredible. I was late in getting a Wii and by then the VC library was huge. I was disappointed in the lack of non-Nintendo console range on the Wii U VC catalogue but I at least appreciated the DS releases and appreciated many of the GBA releases we got (e.g. Super Mario Advance 4 with e-reader levels).

To me this subscription service is a joke. I don’t care for the range and Im not interested in paying extra for more consoles. Id buy specific N64 games for example. But I wouldnt pay for a subscription for them. I just like have access any time i like. Its something i enjoy about being a gamer even if these days a lot of games are purchased online. I like have a collection.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Worst Game That You Still Love For Some Reason?

DarkScythe13

Bubsy (the first one). Its heavily flawed (fall damage, one hit deaths, water deaths etc) but as far as the levels, music and environments go I genuinely have a soft spot for it. I used to watch it on game show segment after school also (they competed against each other in various SNES games along with Plok, Super Mario Allstars, Super Mario Kart and the bug swatting game from Mario Paint).

Re: Wolfenstein-Inspired 'Rise Of The Triad: Ludicrous Edition' Looks... Well, Ludicrous

DarkScythe13

Oh so a lot of us were wondering what happened after the small announcement ages ago (the short video with one of the devs playing a port on the Switch). It came across as a different project back then and there was no mention of Nightdive. My guess is that Nightdive were enlisted and that its possible the engine itself presented some problems.

Cant remember where i heard it but I recall someone describing Rise of the Triad as being ‘an extension of the Wolf3D engine but basically held together by duct tape’ or something along those lines. It pulls off some impressive things but at the same time its a mess, so wouldnt be surprised if there were some issues with this. That and it looks like theyve included the Shareware episode + clearly polished up the experience enough that theyre confident in providing a level editor.

All that said, I’m personally more interested in this than most of the recent Nintendo Direct announcements. Features look cool and I really hope that Nightdive are able to work on something like Dark Forces or Outlaws (depending on how [i assume] Disney are with old Lucas Arts games. If we could get the re-release of the Aladdin and Lion King games, like we did, maybe theres actualy hope?
