Re: Sega Rolling Out New Update For Sonic Origins, Here's What's Included

DarkScythe13

Tested it out. So far I noticed that the rubble in Marble Garden stopped this time at least. On the other hand Tails still doesn’t react to the yellow spring spheres in the Blue Sphere special stages. Its a step in the right direction but more polish is needed.

Still some of the wierd physics issues also, like the start of Sonic’s Mushroom Hill Act 1, when jumping on the yellow spring, flipping in the pole and trying to land on the platform with the two ring monitors you still cant make the difference. Yet when i went there as Knuckles if be okay.

Re: Dragon Ball: The Breakers Finally Lands A Release Date, But Fan Reaction Is Mixed

DarkScythe13

While it’s not personally my kind of game, I like the idea and find it intriguing enough to wanna see some playthroughs. Im expecting this could be very entertaining especially with commentary.

I do think the animations are a bit stiff though but I suspect its because we have been spoiled by games like ‘FighterZ’ and even Kakarot. The former especially went to great lengths to capture the anime look (right down to distorted models to capture the intensity and exaggerated poses). Considering its multiplayer nature, my uneducated guess is that too much graphical intensity might actually work against the performance, where it’s important to get online and system performance right given the multiplayer aspect and

Re: Soapbox: Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie Is Still One Of The Greatest Adaptations Ever

DarkScythe13

Saw the original uncensored version many times back in the 90s. Awesome film. I saw the DVD version many years later and was disappointed with some of the censorship decisions. Considering the nature of the film, villains and the rivalries, it made far more sense for Guile to threaten to rip his (Bison’s) “f’n heart out” than “lousy heart”. That rawness really added to the film, as did many of Bison’s lines. There was a realistic layer to the villains compared woth other films that really tone down the dialogue of villains.

I also agree about the music. The instrumental background music worked very well and the artists selected also fit well in the overall tone and the moments that were selected.

Re: Sega "Working On Fixing A Variety Of Issues" In Sonic Origins

DarkScythe13

Honestly id feel better if they enlisted Headcannons help. I played the full play through from Sonic 1 through Sonic 3K and there's just way too many bugs and oversights that it felt like an actual chore (e.g. Constantly slowing myself down in Carnival Night Act 2 as the camera doesnt keep up and expecting to die of screen). Not to mention just wierd and annoying design choices (not being able to restart Sonic CD time attack special stages).

I just dont feel that the SEGA dev team would really delve in and provide the amount of polish it deserves. I hope they prove me wrong but what we got was very disappointing to me.

Re: Pac-Man World Re-PAC Is A Welcome Surprise, Launching This August

DarkScythe13

I recall playing this on an old PSX demo disc at my cousins place many years ago. I found it interesting but never got to play much more of it beyond that. I’m certainly interested in checking it out. The only other Pac-Man game that particularly had my interest was the Pac-Man Arrangement version that was on the GBA collection.

Like with Some of the Bomberman games, I appreciate when they take a solid core concept and expand on it beyond reusing the same layouts, and introducing small mechanics to spice it up a bit.

Re: Sonic Origins Contributor Shares Frustrations Over The State Of The Game

DarkScythe13

@thinkhector I cant remember if it was only Sonic 2 but the larger issue I experienced is that Tails would outright stop respawning. You are correct about off screen sounds but eventually they cease and Tails flies in. No so here. Additionally in Sonic 3 Special Stages tails doesnt jump when following Sonic. Its quite jarring.

I finished the entirety of that ‘continuous mode’ (Sonic 1 through 3K) and S ranked all missions but one Extreme mission (one of the 3k missions). Each game had its own set of bugs. Ranging from minor bugs (triggering the rock falling effects in Marble Garden on the upper path perpetually until i went the lower path and the miniboss overwrote it), annoying bugs (discrepancies in the physics that didnt exist in the mobile versions and level collision - Marble Garden spin top physics and Angel Island right after miniboss burns the level, theres a wierd invisible wall above the checkpoint), to bugs that outright kill, like going too fast or just break flow and require careful solutions due to getting stuck.

Its not like Sonic CDs console release a few years ago was 1:1 and i wouldnt expect it but it was more than acceptable. This release is very buggy and is in need of a lot of polish to set it right. This is supposed to be the ultimate sonic collection that killed off the other releases in various stores, so it should reflect this.

Re: Sonic Origins Contributor Shares Frustrations Over The State Of The Game

DarkScythe13

I was wondering. The game is riddled with bugs. From Tails issues, frame rate drops, janky physics at times (sadly worse than the actual mobile ports). Not gonna lie but although its not a bug im pretty disappointed that Sonic 1s extra features (including Sonic + Tails mode and Super Sonic) are locked in a cheat mode (yes like the mobile ports) where I was hoping for something akin to mania options.

Sadly this is not the ultimate Sonic Collection. Not as it is. I really hope Sega allow for the team to give it the polish it needs.

Re: Here's How Sonic 3's New Music In Sonic Origins Stacks Up To The Classics

DarkScythe13

I was optimistic, but I feel a bit let down by the end product. To me that ‘polishing’ from the prototype just reminds me of the PC port midi files. And thats a pretty big shame to me. The prototypes have that Mega Drive/Genesis sound to them and fit better with the existing or remaining tracks. I was really hoping they’d have integrated the songs in better, maybe thrown in a few new samples or something.

Cant help but feel its wasted potential.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch Sports - Familiar Fun With Friends, But Little More

DarkScythe13

This game had the potential to be something pretty special. Imagine if we at least had everything the Wii version had such as the modes like 100 pin bowling, lots of customisation content just by playing the game, online being a mode for people to simply compete and rank up in for those that want it.

Instead what we got was a disappointing attempt by Nintendo to justify their stupid online subscription service. When Nintendo are at their creative best its really quite something. But when Nintendo become set on trying to shoehorn a feature down peoples throats they become relentless and its the players that lose out. Like with the loss of Virtual Console, Switch Sports has become a casualty, almost like a glorified ad for online.

There is no reason they couldnt have really enhanced the entire experience, but offline and solo play is basically barebones, almost seemingly intentionally so JUST so that players would be more inclined to want to seek online. That's lame. The game basically feels incomplete and IMO kind of steers you into online. In some ways it reminds of that 3DS badge arcade where the Rabbit also basically guilts you and displays in some regions for not paying to play more - again something Nintendo are perfectly fine with implementing.

Re: Poll: Are You Finding Sonic Origins' Various Editions And DLC Packs Confusing?

DarkScythe13

A chart like that is typically what I expect from expensive software suites or lame subscription tiers.

I'll get all the extra modes and am grateful for the efforts of Headcannon. I appreciate that Sega nevertheless allows fan projects and perhaps a fair few of us have been spoiled by projects like Sonic 1 Forever, Sonic 2 Absolute and Sonic 3 A.I.R. But that said i loathe the current days in which deluxe editions arent strictly non-game extras or physical content but instead game content held to the side. It spoils the feeling of a complete experience if what we get clearly isn't the full experience without tiered costs.

Re: Castlevania Animated Series Studio Strengthens Netflix Partnership

DarkScythe13

@boxyguy I cant help but think that when a show like this is praised theres inevitably people who are motivated to comment otherwise (possibly even for the sake of it). There’s a great many shows that others like that i dont watch but I dont go to any and every comments section related to said shows and trash them.

Im always interested in reading reasoned and thoughtful comments as to why someone didn’t particularly like a show, but the inevitable ‘it’s crap lol’ comments are pretty pointless.

@Arkay I dont mind the amount of swearing. I remember reading some of the initial complaints the show got in season 1 over it, but I feel that just exists to further sell just how dark and disgusting their world actually is. It kind of shows why Trevor himself is in the position he is in and in how he navigates the crap of the world and in finding reason or motivation to still be a hero.

Re: Castlevania Animated Series Studio Strengthens Netflix Partnership

DarkScythe13

@OmniMan I think the point in season 4 is that Camilla has very much become as corrupt, vengeful and power hungry as the corrupt men in her past that fuels her drive for conquest in the first place. The irony being that where she turned on Dracula for losing the plot, she herself has lost it too. It shows that with her own anger and hate that the world is in no way better with her at the helm. Isaac with his own abused backstory showed that he can be better and make his own decisions in spite of the past.

I dont think anything was meant one way or the other by the creators regarding gender - Isaac (a male) essentially ends her reign in what was an awesome battle (even if Carmilla ended it on her terms, id say thats just more the megalomaniac she has become in not letting anyone have the last laugh on her).. I also agree with supaguy’s comments on Sypha.

Re: Yes, The Samus Returns Team Helped Nintendo Develop Metroid Dread

DarkScythe13

@BloodNinja I understand your apprehension. I also personally felt Samus Returns was a pretty flawed game. Was not a fan of the Diggernaut boss, did not like the counter mechanic (at all) feeling it awkwardly shoehorned in and having the game overcompensate but buffing tankiness of enemies. That said I felt the extended gameplay footage looked more promising and am feeling more optimistic about Dread after hearing the dev talk about the newer considerations and tweaks it does seem to flow nicely imo.

@Donkey-Kong-Fan no offence but you’re being pretty unreasonable. BloodyNinja has every right to state reasoned opinions and views (which they have) for why they dont like it. They dont have to see it your way anymore than you refuse to see it theirs. Besides, ‘whining’ is a matter of perspective. BloodyNinja expressed their reasoned disappointment for the game, where you’re disappointed upon reading an opinion that doesnt match yours (that theyre ‘ruining the hype for you’) - that is no less ‘whining’. Personally I appreciate reading comments from both sides of an issue so long as theyre civil and reasoned.

BloodyNinja has no obligation to walk on eggshells just so you can enjoy the hype and its unreasonable to expect that and should have no bearing on your own expectations for the game. If you’re upset by it then it falls on you sign out and attend to your own needs. Verbally beating down another person for not ‘being positive’ is an example of toxic positivity and fans need to stop imposing that. Art is subjective, pure and simple..

Re: Former Metroid Prime Lead Designer Targeted With Abusive Messages

DarkScythe13

How did it even come to that? The guy didn't say anything remotely bad per say. Its not up to him whether it's released.

All he did was recount his own experience and knowledge of the game and (essentially) stated why he felt it unlikely. He didnt say he didnt want it released or that it shouldn't. Just that he felt such a project would require a lot of work and that this would likely work against such a release 🤷‍♂️. Hardly deserving of crap like that.

Re: Does Your Copy Of Pokémon Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire Still Work?

DarkScythe13

@Fandabidozi is this usually the case for cartridges bought from major retailers? I bought mine from JB Hifi here in AUS. Seemed to be no indication of any issues prior to this point. Had looked it up and others apparently had similar issues of crashing previously.

May look more into the youtube side of things as tou suggested as thus far had only looked through various threads.

Re: Does Your Copy Of Pokémon Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire Still Work?

DarkScythe13

I probably have a slightly different issue. My original cartridge was somehow lost for good a few years ago (and with it the majority of my shinies). I waited a while then bought a new cartridge thinking it was a decent opportunity to playthrough again. Got to the Magma Underwater Hideout only to find it was incredibly unstable. Crashes periodically and could not figure out why.

Edit: Meant Magma hideout not rocket hide out (facepalm). Been that long since i played the game,

Re: Netflix Joins Mario's Doomsday Celebrations, Will Remove Super Mario Bros. 3 Cartoon On 31st March

DarkScythe13

Personally I wasnt all that impressed with the ‘Allstars’ effort anyway. I sympathise with the people who are frustrated or critical of Nintendo for the decision though (regardless of it being Nintendo’s right or being a business move, that doesnt spare them from criticism) and i am personally critical of the hypocritical ‘stop whining’ crowd who vocally make a fuss themselves.

The problem is these sorts of decisions become increasingly more common. Without criticism i’d shudder to think how much worse some of the controversies in the gaming industries would have been or how practices would have evolved in spite of gamers. Vocalising complaints is at least one way of combatting it. Businesses frequently test the waters and push barriers to see what they can get away with. Silencing criticism can effectively enable worse decisions and practices.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles

DarkScythe13

@Zenszulu theres a few considerations here though. Yes granted things have changed. Many media platform's are deadset on ramming the subscriptions down our throats rather than letting us buy what we want. Its also true that many companies would prefer to throw their own compilations onto multiple consoles.

However i dont give Nintendo a free pass on this either. They made very clear themselves that they were in support of the current model and while we cant know for sure, I doubt they had any intentions on approaching or promoting anything better either (whether it was possible to court other companies on it or not), preferring to promote it as is alongside their new online membership scheme.

I try to give credit where credit is due with Nintendo but this appears to be one of those features that are essentially an after thought. As a business decision there may not be sufficient motivation for them to care beyond what theyre currently doing. But it (imo) sucks nevertheless for us gamers and for the gamer experience.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles

DarkScythe13

@Zenszulu itd probably be okay if releases were more frequent but it sometimes becomes a things of 'we waited for this?'

Inevitably many of us cant help but both compare to feel disappointed at how much better VC was on the Wii and I genuinely miss the selection on the Wii U. The Switch feels like the perfect console to have had am expansive library of retro games (both in hardware and success.

Re: Video: 5 Special Wii U Virtual Console Games Not on Switch

DarkScythe13

Completed Earthbound for the first time on Wii U. In hindsight It had a fantastic VC collection (even if spanning across less consoles than the Wii). I was pretty hyped for SMA4 with its e-reader levels also.

For all the complaints the Wii U got, I personally have positive memories of it (even if it was a bit chunky compared with the Switch). The backwards compatibility was much appreciated snd gave me the chance to complete Metroid Trilogy and the Galaxy titles.

If the console had been able to render/upscale past Wii titles in HD and allowed for Wii U Pro Controller Support (rather than just wiimotes, especially for menus) then I would have been completely satisfied. In the end it was an evolution of the Wii - all games could use the features established in the Wii and more. On paper it was a decent idea.

Re: Video: 16 Brutal Minutes Of DOOM Eternal Switch Gameplay

DarkScythe13

I interpreted comment #2 as being an opinion rather than a demand or some expression of 'entitlement'. 'I think "this" would be more incentive for what is on offer here, and as this isnt the case I will pass until it's on sale'. I don't see the issue with their sentiment. I didnt interpret 'should' as meaning 'must', I read it as 'would be better if'. At the very least I can understand why some people would be put off by the release, and I dont see a problem there either.

Personally I own the Steam and PS4 versions. I was interested in buying it on Switch but the lack of a physical copy feels like a bit of a deal breaker for myself. I understand given how much Nintendo's proprietry cartridges apparently cost for devs as to why some opt to skip physical, but my own decision is to give it a miss.

Re: Transfers Between Pokémon GO And Pokémon HOME Will Have A Cooldown Period

DarkScythe13

PoGO was at its best when it was a humble little experiment of a phone game that didnt jump on the mobile gaming bandwagon. Once upon a time it felt like there was genuinely some Innocent effort put into the app. The core game experience seemed to matter and there seemed to be some kind of internal logic to the game. Exploring areas like the beach rewarded you with appropriate spawns and kept people coming back for more. Eggs and raids were supplemental or required only for special case species like legendaries or babies.

Fast forward to now and the experience has been intentionally dumbed down. Niantic pour their profits into AR tech and analysts who study their players and determine the best methods of making a profit. Fact is the game lacks the diversity it once had. Spawns have been dumbed down, event species are selectively cherry picked for their milking value. Features are added only with careful planning (like mega evolutions being essentially a subscription requiring endless raiding to ‘top up energy’.

Wouldnt be surprised if part of the reason this has taken so long is simply because they were brainstorming how best to monetise transfers too. A cool down to what is essentially already a subscription based service is beyond pathetic.

Re: Video: The Problem With The Super Mario 3D All-Stars Release

DarkScythe13

Honestly at this point it seems as though the heated arguments about the game have overshadowed any 'problems' the release itself had. I was a bit disappointed that we didnt see a remaster along the lines of the throwback galaxy from Galaxy 2, but im so weary of peoples 'anti-whinging' whinging that i just dont care.

Im glad some people are satisfied but the 'omg stop whining'' crowd are adding nothing to the discussion. Instead of whinging about the product, theyre just whinging about other players. Thats still whining, they're just rationalising their whining as being more mature.

Personally im interested to read through people's passionate views on the game positive or negative. I like reading what they think and why. What im tired of reading is 'dont moan', 'dont complain', 'dont whine' etc. It adds nothing to the discussion. Seems like this crap happens more and more. I witness it all the time in the PoGO community also. Companies aren't perfect and people are entitled to their views and opinions. Stifle the debate and how is there any room for improvement?

Re: Here's Your First Look At The Main Menu In Super Mario 3D All-Stars

DarkScythe13

@JuiceMan_V i wouldnt go so far as to call it a history lesson. A lot of compilations have the same presentation. The Konami compilations are an example. Kinda just seems like the standard these days. If the original Allstars were released today im sure they would have provided more than just the box art and release dates.

Cant help but feel that people would be more okay with M64 if Nintendo hadnt released the DS remake or released it multiple times on VC. Between that and it standing out the most of the 3 (whereas the original Allstars updated all games), itll always be a contentious point as to some people its a perfect classic in what it was, where others want to see what could be.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About 'Limited-Time' Games From Nintendo?

DarkScythe13

Im preordering as i would have regardless. At the same time it is completely unnecessary though. The numbers and availability in that period seem too generous for it to feel special. Its an odd stipulation that i presume is just meant to spike sales that little bit more.

Seems Nintendo are more open to that sort of thing at this point which is a bit of a shame. Ive always felt that Nintendo were pretty good at innovating and creating demand in the substance of their games rather than artificial hype or business tactics. In a way, given the amount of hype any layman would expect this release to attract, it feels rather uncharacteristic of them to throw this on top (IMO). But dare i say, i cant help but feel Nintendo tend to go above and beyond with re-releases; 64 with minor tweaks also seems a bit uncharacteristic of them tbh (especially for an anniversary release and not a VC thing)

Re: Hell Yeah! New DOOM And DOOM II Update Adds Gyro Aiming And Widescreen Support

DarkScythe13

Widescreen on an official Doom port is awesome in itself. UV+ is interesting though surprised fast monsters itself isnt a game play option.

My only problems personally is that i have a hard time seeing the red crosshair when fixed on a target. The yellow is bright and noticeable but the much smaller red reticle blends in with almost all targets. Its not entirely useless but its a bit of a shame since it essentially disappears from from sight.

Re: Super Mario 3D World On Switch Is A Lot Faster Than The Wii U Original

DarkScythe13

@Papichulo in this instance i dont mind. I feel that way about 3D Allstars perhaps (given what i would expect of another Allstars game and how the original was)’. But for whats being provided here, having the original game optimised isnt such a bad thing. Given the Wii U’s demise, id hate to see 3D World lost. And thats leaving out the supposed extra content (i reserve judgement on that til we have more on it).

About the only thing that i feel would have made this even more ‘complete’ is if they offered 3D Land levels as additional set of levels. But that’d be expecting too much.

Re: Super Mario All-Stars Is Now Available On Nintendo's Switch Online SNES Service

DarkScythe13

Hmm but will it remain past March? Thats what im curious to know. Considering how they handled it on Wii and the lack of availability on previous VCs, i get the impression this could very well be a limited time thing.

That said, I like Allstars for what it is. To me it demonstrates Nintendo re-releases at their best. Which is then what bothers me about this 3D allstars thing. Galaxy is fine, and cant comment on Sunshine. The omission on Galaxy 2 feels odd though in a way.

But perhaps my main disappointment is SM64. Yes its a step up from an outright emulated effort that we’ve had on VC, but after having seen it in Galaxy 2 in the form of the Throwback Galaxy thing, it would have been amazing to see a proper remaster in a newer engine, but with everything else intact. I like SM64, but id love seeing it in the best form possible more than that.

Re: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Remasters In Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct

DarkScythe13

While im looking forward to trying Sunshine for the first time and replaying Galaxy (and later 3d World)... Im a little disappointed in SM64. Mainly because i associate Allstars with being more of a substantial graphical upgrade than just aspect ratio and resolution improvements. Would have liked to have seen the game in a newer engine physics-wise or at least highest res models.

Re: Feature: All The Paper Mario Games, Ranked By You

DarkScythe13

Pretty much what i expected. Sticker Star got off pretty easily though in its description. To me it striped away everything about a Paper Mario game that I liked, and left it an empty shell.

I get what they were going for, but not having a permanent way to attack, being entirely reliant on stickers, and a lack of any EXP or character progression hurt it most in my view.

I havent played Colour Splash, and only just started The Origami King, but the other game i dislike is Paper Jam. I didnt entirely complete it, but I got far enough to feel it extremely dull and really disliked the 'vehicle' sections. It was at that point that i felt Paper Mario had truly become a cheap gimmick (at least in my eyes).

As a fan i prefer the original take on the series (called Mario Story in Japan); a story book design with paper thin characters, rather than of art stuff. Even Super Paper Mario in its 2d - 3d aspect and whacky designs won me over enough as a once off thing, in part cause of the story and gameplay, but also because it tried to do more than just cash literally on the 'Paper' in Paper Mario.

Re: Rumour: Warren Ellis Might Not Return To Netflix's Castlevania Beyond Series 4

DarkScythe13

@BoyfriendOfDeath Thats understandable. But season 3 doesnt doesnt necessarily undo the other seasons.

I expected season 3 was just setting up for a follow up series. The japanese hunters could probably have been skipped i guess. Im kind of interested to see what happens with Alucards feelings upon being betrayed though. Im also interests to see what happens to Hector - there could very well be a turning point for his character.

I suppose im just saying that i would like to see where they take it.l before judging. Season 3 ended relatively bleak for all characters involved. Ill be disappointed if it all goes nowhere but i want to see if it pays off.

Re: Rumour: Warren Ellis Might Not Return To Netflix's Castlevania Beyond Series 4

DarkScythe13

Honestly, im unsure where all this hate for the show comes from. Ive heard and seen mostly praise for the show since it began. In fact i recall the main controversy being the amount of swearing and/or gore in the first series (which again i didnt really think was ‘excessive’).

It was never going to be 1:1 to the original game as liberties were always going to be made. Thats part of the interesting thing about the show imo. What will be adapted and where. Treating it as its own thing, ive felt it good and its kept me interested. They been faithful to some key elements at least.

Re: Review: Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour - A Timeless FPS Classic Comes To Switch

DarkScythe13

IIRC the main fan favourite of the 'missing content' is Duke in the Carribean. Ive never fully had a chance to play the TC expansions myself so i dont know whether their exclusion hurts the 20th Anniversary release beyond a lack of a complete package.

Id bought this on Xbox One and later PS4 and the one major issue i recall this having was that the quality of the sound effects were reasonably sub par. Dont know if they fixed it for those releases later. I dont really notice it much for this release but its been a while since i played it i guess.

The main game itself (particularly for its time) played so well and had so many memorable elements (the Jetpack, underwater sections that generally didnt suck, blowing open cracked walls). It had a good balance of level design and recognisable themed locations in pretty detailed maps.

About the only real gripe i ever had with it is that certain enemies (Pig Cops and most notably The chaingunners - forgot their name) tend to counterattack immediately one shot. It doesnt make the game much more difficult since its not overly hard and ammo is plentiful (shotgun + dodging does the job), just an oddity i never understood, particularly compared with Dooms pain states.

Re: Poll: Which Remastered Mario Games Would You Pick For A 'Super Mario All-Stars 2'?

DarkScythe13

I kind of prefer seeing games with similar themes together. For example, the New Super Mario Bros games could easily be lumped together in one HD package. In the same way, some of the older 2D games remastered together would be great (the Land series ith the Bros series).

For the 3D games I cant help but lump Galaxy 1 & 2 together. To me it wouldn't feel right if they werent together in a way. Im probably in the minority in that I feel Super Mario 64's controls and movement feel dated and slow compared to the newer games and would love to see a HD version with improved control together with Galaxy. That would probably leave sunshine as the fourth game since I feel that 3D Land and World are different enough to warrant their own seperate pack.

That said, that's all based on an Allstar pack in theory. If we are talking Switch releases then 64, Galaxy 1&2 and 3D World would have my vote as a package.

Re: Review: BioShock: The Collection - Three Of The Best Single-Player Shooters Ever, All In One Place

DarkScythe13

Decent port, but im forever left wondering why devs wont let us customise our controls. The controls are imo the one negative aside from one game crash experienced when trying to enter Smugglers Hideout) . Bioshock has medkits mapped to B while Bioshock 2 maps it to right D-pad.

There were a few times when i tried to loot a defeated Big Daddy in the first game only to accidentally harvest the sobbing Little Sister or id accidentally use a medkit while instinctively trying to jump (which is mapped to X).

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #46 - Sonic The Hedgehog 3

DarkScythe13

Id almost want to say the EU one for nostalgic reasons, but the US one wins here. The JP is a bit plain, whereas the English one just has odd proportions over a Carnival Night backdrop.

The US one encapsulates everything the game basically is. Its the only one not to how Knuckles, but then he is a looming menace that strikes and torments Sonic at any moment. While it might have been nice to see him featured on the cover, he also plays a pretty minor role beyond his brief cut scenes so it feels like there's (probably) unintentional logic and merit to it. He gets to feature on S&K anyway...

Re: Super Mario Maker 2's Final Major Update Arrives April 22nd, Adds World Maker Mode, Frog Suit, And Koopalings

DarkScythe13

Part of me kind of hopes the words ‘major update’ means specifically that. Its a huge update and one could hardly expect an update like this in future. An overworld creator and the sheer amount of power ups is a lot of content in one go, and overworld part in itself will have required more work than individual or smaller objects and features.

I kind of hope for, some minor updates here or there with the inclusion of featured would be nice, like the Wii U version.

Personally id still like to see placeable lava or water tiles, invisible lined tracks, and a few classic enemies for fun and variety. Itd also be nice to have a bit more customisation, such as being able to disable the night time gimmicks while retaining the themes (small things). Maybe even a few background objects, as semi solid platforms can at times be a bit limiting. Small things like that go a long way.

Re: Streets Of Rage 4 Is Getting Classic Characters, But Confusion Reigns Over Release Date

DarkScythe13

I'd consider it a small shame that they didnt update or integrate the retro sprites into an amalgamation of the new style while translating some of the original details of the characters themselves. I kind of like how the fan remake years back attempted to and i thought what they came up with worked pretty nicely.

That said, for what it is, i'm glad that they at least came up with this. I'm a fan of the original (1st) game and glad to see it receive some representation. Also glad that they provided the catchy original tracks. It'll be interesting to see whether we have a choice to customise level tracks to our choosing or if its just a preset selection according to game.

Re: Another Hellish Update For Doom And Doom II Is Now Available On Switch

DarkScythe13

The port has certainly transformed from being a disappointing underbaked release, to arguably being the most solid Doom console port yet. The only two (main) things left that i personally care about are a minimal HUD (the full HUD cuts a significant amount of the screen off) and an altered dpad shortcut that also includes the fist and chainsaw to the rocket launcher binding (which is what the 360 version of doom 2 did). The shoulder selection is nice, but has a delay when selecting.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #32 - Sonic The Hedgehog

DarkScythe13

I have a soft spot for the EU Mega Drive version. I also prefer that design of sonic (which appears to be the original Japanese design) over the US ‘mohawk’ design. The Japanese one seems a like a celebration poster more than a cover imo.

Re: Video: Our Spoiler-Filled Thoughts About The Sonic Movie And Why We Loved It So Much

DarkScythe13

From what ive noticed, many reviewers have crapped on it, while the majority of viewer comments have been positive. The movie is solid at the very LEAST. It was entertaining enough and had a few genuinely laugh out loud moments. Frankly it’s about as good as a buddy movie with Sonic could be.

Its not groundbreaking or amazing but it definitely had some heart and you can tell they made a sincere effort with this. The fact that they even acknowledged the original design of the character and took time to update it alone deserves some praise.

Without going into spoilers, some of the ending stuff seems to leave open a lot of possibilities from where they could go from here. If the movie has any real ‘issue’ its that it does play it a bit safe, but given expectations i think its reasonable for them to have, and frankly I’m personally interested to see a potential sequel. They have a solid platform from which to build off and they Have far more leverage to let loose in a sequel.

Re: Poll: After 24 Hours, How Are You Getting On With Pokémon HOME?

DarkScythe13

Not really a fan of how the features are split between the two versions of the app. I also feel that (for whats on offer) $24.99 AU is pretty steep. Itd be nice if havimg a Nintendo Online subscription at least gave a discount or something.

Moving multiple boxes around and sorting out Pokemon that are brought up from Bank could have been better IMO. I think that PokeBanks subscription model was fine as it was price wise. While i kind of get that GTS etc now encompassed more and that Pokemon Home could be a central platform for all things pokemon , i still kind of preferred an in game GTS.

Kinda wish we at least had 3d pokemon dex entries rather than static images alsom for that price it might as well have bells and whistles on switch.

Re: Round Up: The Sonic Movie Reviews Are In, And They Don't Make For Pretty Reading

Saw it today and really feel it’s not deserving of the hate the reviewers are giving it. It’s a solid movie with a few laugh out loud moments. It comes across as intentionally being a bit more of a children’s movie in areas, given some of the themes, and IMO plays it a bit safe at times, but its better than other ‘cartoon-buddy’ movies of recent times.

I also appreciate the effort they made in revising the Sonic design. Between that and the performances, it feels like they genuinely tried to have some fun with this. I wouldnt call this ‘a cheap cash in’. It does feel like a sincere effort was made on this.

Hmm, i didnt know about that being the case for pokebank (the time limit before theyre erased).

Hopefully that limit does not apply to Home. The thing is with gen 7 and pokebank, you could theoretically send them onto any cartridge and theyd be safe. With Home atm, there are limits on what you can send to Sword or Shield meaning if such a limitation existed you would have no choice but to pay to keep them from being erased.
