I like a lot of the ideas in Xenoverse 2, but it's far from perfect.I cant really see myself playing through it all over again, and i remember a source mentioning 30fps ehich is even more offputting
@Lizuka did it work in WWE 2k17 as well as it did in WWE 13? I heard it was gutted it in the sequel and lost a lot of its original functionality.I liked that the original allowed trimming, graphic effects, insertation, commentary/sfx etx.
The main appeal with WWE games to me eas having the ability to create cutscenes with custom characters and editing together 'highlight reel videos'. Unfortunately thats all been dropped as of WWE 2k15. Id rather wait til they at least restore that functionality or improve it before getting one of these again.
@Bass_X0 They did censor the most recent releases (of Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie). To be honest I preferred the swearing there. To be honest though I personally felt it was warranted since it fit the characters that did swear and it wasn't constant anyway. Changing Guile's line to "I'll rip your lousy heart out" just doesn't have the same outrage to it.
I can't judge this anime yet as I haven't seen it (therefore I can't fully compare it yet). I think swearing is fine in these sorts of shows, so long as it's not forcibly thrown into every sentence. Anger or having an actually bad attitude or character is one thing, but if every single character is spouting it out, I can see it being silly.
I was waiting for a Metal Slug 2 switch release since I saw it announced for Xbox One. I actually would have preferred Metal Slug X, but I guess this is an okay substitute. That said, given that they're not strictly "VC" games, it'd be nice if they tweaked the emulation somehow (or slightly update the game) to address the slowdown thing. While it might be deemed to be more trouble than it's worth, it'd still make a lot of sense, and they could always carry such improvements over to future releases of the game.
Well I guess it makes sense. In most games dying is just a minor inconvenience or set back at best anyway.
Most players probably wouldn't notice it too much since the hardest levels tend to have no checkpoints anyway, and a 'game over' normally just requires starting a level from scratch anyway (fairly sure 3D World was an example).
@2CATteam Hyperkin release other retro things also. It seems to be one of their specialties. I personally purchased one of their mega drive controllers and was very impressed with the quality of it, when compared with other brands like RetroBit.
That said, they do release PC USB compatible versions of some controllers too and am slightly tempted to try one.
Honestly, the main point of interest to me is learning of the potential for hacking and loading on more games. I would have been more on the fence given that Mario Allstars ain't included. But fortunately there is still hope to rectify this.
I'm hoping we get Metal Slug 2 for switch soon given that it was apparently released for the xbox recently. as for RPG maker, i think I need to look into it more...
I noticed the slowdown in Comix Zone when I tried it on my iPad Pro and found it pretty bad framerate-wise and pretty consistently too. It's mostly the 'same old, same old' Sega games anyway, so this is hardly appealing.
I know developing for Android and iOS makes sense from a business standpoint, but in practice, I don't see the point of this. At least the Taxman Sonic re-releases had effort put into them. If they're doing straight up emulations, I kind of wish they'd just put that effort into working on Switch Mega Drive VC releases (unless they're waiting and/or working with Nintendo to make a uniform Mega Drive emulator)
@KTT My original 3DS XL was less of an issue from memory as I think the stylus was on the side? Then again that one took an insane beating over time and really started to fall apart, so a stylus was the least of my worries I guess...
That said, I kind of wish they'd have it at the top. The original 3ds had its stylus up the top from memory and that really does seem like the best solution. It felt easier to access IMO also, the stylus was different by design which seemed to help it - though I owned that one the least due to XL later coming out so perhaps I'm not in the best position to comment there.
Well it looks like they got the sound right this time. HDMI is also handy. However, a potential deal breaker is the controller themselves. AtGames also have a reputation of bad controllers apparently, as do most third party Mega Drive controllers.
I bought both a RetroBit and Hyperkin one, and it was only really the Hyperkin one that felt decent.
EDIT - Though rewatching that it did sound like the title screen was off sound-wise though.
One thing I don't like about the New 3DS XL is that the stylus hole wears out over time and the thing just slips out, made worse by the fact that it's placed at the bottom. I'm not too sure about the new 2DS XL, though it appears to be the same, but I hope Nintendo at least made more reliable this time around. I lost 2 stylus'.
That said, while my 3DS is certainly battered, I'm not inclined to really get this one. I like the Switch's design better than the 3DS at this point so I'd rather invest in that, and the only upcoming game that I have any remote interest in any more for it, is the new Metroid Game. I never cared for 3D.
i am really interested in getting the switch version of this. It just seems perfect for it in my opinion. As for Forces, framerate difference will lead me to invest in one of the other consoles. I dont mind potentially 720p, but i do mind frame rate on gameplay. Generations is so much better on PC for that reason.
The highlights for me were the announcement of a Pokemon RPG for Switch (but not getting my hopes too high just in case there), confirmation of Metroid Prime 4, and Mario Odyssey, which is looking more and more interesting.
That said, I'm a bit disappointed that the Metroid II remake is for 3ds. I mean I kind of get it, but at the same time, I find the Switch to be just far better and more comfortable to play things on in general. I'm personally kind of over the 3DS.
Sounds like an okay feature, but also totally in-line with what one would expect in a full Mario adventure. 3D World and New Super Mario Bros had a more arcade-y straight-forward platforming style, so it made sense for Nintendo to go all-out with the co-op like they did there. I suppose in this case, they didn't want to take too much away from the adventure itself.
I didn't get a Wii until 2009, but it seemed to me that by then it had quite a good selection of VC titles at that point of its life and many consoles overall. At the same point of their lives on the other hand, both the 3DS and Wii U pale in comparison.
While i'd certainly like a faster rate of releases than even the Wii seemed to have, i'd settle for the what the Wii got, rather than the both the Wii U and 3DS combined. Also, this is kind of a random 'wish', but i think it'd be cool if they added DOS games this time around also.
At this point I really do wish it was for Switch instead. I know the 3DS is still going strong, and it makes sense, however personally I find the switch to be more comfortable and fun to play things on.
Ill be happy if they go back to the original Castlevania time line, rather than sticking to more of that Lord of Shadows stuff.
A sequel to Harmony of Despair, A HD remake of Aria of Sorrow (perhaps with DoS), or a Julius Belmont centric game would all be nice potential options.
Kinda wish it were for switch too, since my 3ds is rather battered now and i quite like the switch in portable handheld mode. Oh well, i was hoping for this either way. Also kinda wish they'd use the japanese and Heart Gold exclusives (i.e. Donphan in Gold, Ursaring in Silver).
For me, this was probably the weakest part of the news. Frankly I'm most looking forward to Gold & Silver, though I kind of wish they were being released on Switch for VC as well/instead. My New 3DS XL is quite battered and I much prefer playing switch as a handheld thing now.
I'll be very disappointed if the 'classic games' are only tied to the subscription. VC has been one of my favourite features since the days of the Wii. I personally wouldn't want them just tied to the subscription service. Otherwise I wouldn't have traded in my Wii U.
@memoryman3 - I completely agree, though I suspect we might be in the minority regarding Allstars.
Honestly, I'd personally prefer that the Legendaries don't get released (or on individual key holidays), instead having more generations released and maybe providing events were 'region exclusives' migrate for a brief period. It feels like Gen 3 should've already been released, and they took too long just releasing Gen 2 IMO.
I picked up Ultra SF2 yesterday to give it a proper try, and with an option to return it. I think I will do so. The price is less justified than I thought it was.
The only real attraction is the core gameplay itself and it only goes so far, considering how many versions exist. The other modes are incredibly lacking and none of it warrants the absurd price IMO. Hell, even the cool idea of having a colour picker is flawed - incredibly slow.
So I noticed what appears to be Stardust Speedway Past version in the trailer? Imteresting choice, particularly in taking the plant theme one step further. It's a fine choice as is, but it also makes me wonder if time travelling is involved in that zone, or even if each act is set in different periods).
I was thinking of getting it on a xbox to match the other sonic games, however, I've grown a little fond of the switch, and it seems like the perfect pairing.
@MetaRyan - if that's true then that would at least be roughly the size of Sonic 2 (iirc that had 11 including single act zones though those can be tricky when considering actual length). I suppose another consideration would be how many zones are recycled or make up the total.
@GoldenGamer88 - Well all things considered, sometimes playing the newest game in the series provides enough interest to later play through the originals despite their flaws. It's not like the games have an extremely important narrative, so it wouldnt hurt to play them out of order if Mania wins you over and want to keep up the interest.
@VR32F1END - No love for CD? I know people consider it to be different enough, but I personally felt it was a great game in the series. Especially the Japanese version.
@lemonjellydude Or maybe people who were otherwise interested in getting this are merely expressing disappointment because they're left with the obvious choice? I know I'm one of those people. I took the plunge with Bomberman (which I got for an okay deal compared with RRP) because at least that was 'new' and I had a game at launch. With this, as nice as the core game looks, and as much as I'd like to own it, the price tag isn't warranted. A shame.
EDIT - In watching the first person mode, I can't help but think that maybe they should have included punching and combos as well. Granted every review complains about the controls being bad anyway, but it seems like it had potential. Hell, even a first person vs mode. If they pulled that off, it might have been worth the price.
Either way, I've got mixed feelings about the potential performance of this game. It looks like it's a pretty decent version of the game, but it really shouldn't have been released at the price that it is. I want them to release or even update old games (realistically digitally), but I'm reluctant to support it at that price point. Games like this and Super Bomberman R are setting a bit bad trend (though to be fair, this one is still cheaper than Bomberman from the look of it).
Id rather they just focused if VC support for the switch. They didnt even bother with Wii U, and the 3Ds only had select games because of the 3d updating of games.
The street fighter group t-shirt looks pretty cool. I already own the animated movie on blu-ray and definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. Somehow it seems all the more appropriate now with the inclusion of 'Violent Ken' in the game.
Tails and Knuckles, with Tails having the slight edge for being Sonic's Luigi. If we can have Mario and Sonic at the olympics, surely we can have that rivalry in Smash Bros.
Other than that, I would be kind of interested in seeing Simon Belmont. If Super Bomberman R can have tease that, and given the original Castlevania games on NES, it makes perfect sense.
@Jimsbo I think so as well. In fact I've even found that I've been hit by convenient combos (perfectly timed from more than one CPU player), hit by extremely perfectly rebounded green shells when I initially went through 50cc, and the few times I get triple bananas in first place are often short-lived thanks to a convenient Boo. One race I was also hit by 3 blue shells.
I'm not sure if it's just that more items = more chaos or whether the game was 're-balanced' to simply make it more chaotic in general. I only really played 50cc for my first playthrough though, and 150cc feels about what it was on Wii U for the most part I think.
@GeminiSaint @KTT I'll go back and give that a try and see how I go. If I succeed at that then all that'll be left is the high score pagies... EDIT - Okay the tongue thing did work. Not sure why I didnt pick up on that. I also got the High Score on the Micro Machines like minigame (fortunately it gives you ample time and slowing down to take the shortcut helps loads). 2 more pagies to go!
One difference between games which I preferred in BK is that there were more than 5 worlds. The worlds themselves are generally okay and its kind of a cool idea to have 'expansion', but feels like there was room for more, or to at least space the collectibles out a bit more onto another world or two. I loved the idea of Click Clockwoods, and its a shame there isnt a level more in line with something like that thrown in somewhere.
EDIT 2 - Okay just finished the game now. There are a few tedious points to the final battle but its not as frustrating as I.N.E.P.T. I also completed the minigames which are still somewhat frustrating but not undoable. Overall I really think the game was worthwhile, but just needs tweaking with certain challenges.
The game had potential and I don't think it's a "bad" game. It just has one too many frustrating challenges (e.g. the timed Hivory Tower challenge involving sliding past force fields with very little time, or some of the mini-games) that can really grate on your nerves if you're a completionist.
I've personally collected everything except the World 3 timed seed rolling challenge pagie (ugh the THORNS + wind), and like 4 of the 5 arcade high score related pagies). I also haven't really confronted the final boss as I've heard it's a pretty tedious battle. Perhaps i'll wait for a patch for some of that.
I bought Metal Slug and Metal Slug 3. Still waiting on Metal Slug 2 (or X). Kind of hoping that actual VC games make their way on to the system soon too though. As others have suggested CPS-1 and 2 games would also be a nice addition (rather that than SNES ports of arcade games personally).
@Super_Gravy I'm the opposite. I can spot very easily (in most games anyway) when there is a difference between FPS (even generally in games that are pretty stable at 30 fps), but when it comes to resolution, I find it harder. My preference is for optimal smooth 60fps either way in this day and age.
It may be TV-size related, or perhaps certain other aspects (e.g. rendering and other quality elements aside from actual resolution), but it's nowhere near what it used to be for me back in the days of DOS (e.g. playing a game on 320x200 vs. 640x400). That's more an example where i'd be fussed over resolutions personally.
I know it's kind of the principle of it for many, but honestly I didn't really notice it myself (granted I've only player on a 42 inch screen so far). That being said it's early days for the switch, and it ends up being a trend earlier on in consoles that developers aren't immediately the best at optimising games at first, but also get better over time (e.g. Compare early 360 to later).
Hopefully this sort of thing improves in time. It also strikes me as them having rushed the release to make it a launch title, given what we're only just getting in features now.
Looks like Sonic Generations more or less - even the physics seem similar. Not sure why they're including Green Hill Zone again, as it's kind of overrated at this point.
Something seems and sounds off with the badniks though. The sound just doesnt seem right and theres seems to be something wrong with the collision with the, though might just be me. Only a minor thing, but kind of a shame there arent any trapped animals popping out either.
Oh well, if its as fun as zgenerstions was (and doesnt recycle the same levels) then ill check it out.
The one game I never particularly cared for out of pack 3 is Fakin' It'. It reminds me of some of the games in the first Jackbox (like Word Spud) where the game just gives you a score, but that's kind of it (well to be fair in this one it does have score, but the game leaves it to your acting moreso).
I agree with the review, in that there's too much time wasting on narrators at times, and it'd be nice if there were an 'abridged' or 'no host' option, in order to spend more time playing and less time wasting. In a sense, it's like unskippable cutscenes. in a first person shooter you've already beaten and just want some action in.
Personally i'd be more interested in having these games on Virtual Console for switch. That being said i'd be more tempted to own this than the NES Classic. I'm a 16-bit kinda guy. But that said I don't have as much nostalgia for the console itself (hence why i'd prefer VC).
I think for me the more important part of the update was the difficulty tweaks. There was no point having bots as they were rather cheap. I havent really tested boss battles fully but from the little I did they seem slightly less annoying. I played on veteran, so Id be interested in seeing how the easier mode is with that.
The other thing is I think im doing slight worse because of the frame rate thing. Have to re-adapt
The levels are rather generic and simple (for the most part) so "ONE" new level isn't all that exciting.
Tweaks to difficulty level are probably the best bit of news there, though i'm guessing that it's mainly aimed at the Story mode (AI bosses are too precise even on the easiest setting, so I imagine it'll adjust the lower difficulties). Would still be nice to have a Level 1 - 9 level difficulty option (or something along those lines) for bots though.
@dougphisig - the only trick that I found that generally helps immensely each run is if you die the first time, use the limited 'respawn invincibility' by spamming bombs, essentially creating a fiery trail of destruction. If you're fortunate enough you should be able to reach the boss in time to get that 'one-hit KO' that's required. I've tried using Plasma Bomber's short fuse bomb with a glove (i.e. stunning them by bouncing it off them) but it hardly helps.
EDIT - Okay wow, they added quite a large number of good fixes. Some of what I expressed in my post has actually been addressed (especially the difficulty stuff). I just tested it out on a 'weak' bot and won with reasonable comfort (but not so stupid that it kills itself in 5 seconds - fell prey after a few attempts at lobbing bombs across to its side of the stage with glove). Makes me wonder whether these were intended fixes but didn't make the cut, or if they're simply post-release fixes made real-time and in hindsight. Either way this is a good update.
I know a lot of players (and reviewers) felt that the lack of 'this' kind of battle mode in Mario Kart 8 brought it down. However, I'm in the extreme minority who never cared for battle. Personally I was kind of hoping for a few new tracks. Granted there is still the opportunity for DLC for this fresh release (and I hope there is).
I'll still get the game regardless though - I'd already traded my Wii U and the original version.
Honestly, the only DLC I'm interested in is "features" at the moment. The trouble is the game is light on them, whereas even the LIVE series had more.
There is no option to customise power-ups in multiplayer, the difficulty of the Boss AI is just absurd in Story (even on easy they're perfect with their every movement) and a lack of difficulty option for bots doesn't help either. IMO that's much more important to address than skins or relatively simplistic stages.
IMO it's much weaker than the retro Super Bomberman titles and in some ways is bit lacking when even compared to Bomberman Live.
The game doesnt allow changing difficulty of bots who act like theyre on the highest difficulty (save for the one or two glitches I encountered). Options themselves in multiplyer are pretty basic in general with no minigame for the winner and very basic powerups available. Kind of ridiculous when you consider the price.
The graphics and looks of levels arent too great IMO. At times the perspective is problematic, especially in Story. Frankly im disappointed. I expect more from a release of this price but frankly it feels inferior to the cheaper past digital versions as mentioned.
Im a big bomberman fan so i want it to succeed, but personally i dont think the end product reched the potential of what the series had previously been.

I was thinking of getting it on a xbox to match the other sonic games, however, I've grown a little fond of the switch, and it seems like the perfect pairing.
Re: Steam Trailer Gives 15th August Release Date for Sonic Mania
Re: Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers Gets a Full Digital Foundry Breakdown
Re: Steam Trailer Gives 15th August Release Date for Sonic Mania
I hope there's enough zones and content to justify the wait. Something at least the size of Sonic 3k would be nice.
Re: Capcom's Future Output For Switch Depends On Ultra Street Fighter II Sales, States COO
Re: SEGA Forever May Be a Subscription Service for the Company's Iconic Retro Games
Id rather they just focused if VC support for the switch. They didnt even bother with Wii U, and the 3Ds only had select games because of the 3d updating of games.
Re: Deals: Come Out Fighting With This Street Fighter II Merchandise
The street fighter group t-shirt looks pretty cool. I already own the animated movie on blu-ray and definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. Somehow it seems all the more appropriate now with the inclusion of 'Violent Ken' in the game.
Re: Poll: Who Would You Like To See In Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo Switch?
Tails and Knuckles, with Tails having the slight edge for being Sonic's Luigi. If we can have Mario and Sonic at the olympics, surely we can have that rivalry in Smash Bros.
Other than that, I would be kind of interested in seeing Simon Belmont. If Super Bomberman R can have tease that, and given the original Castlevania games on NES, it makes perfect sense.
Re: Guide: Boost Your Skills with these Five Secret Driving Techniques in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Re: Yooka-Laylee Could Be Much Improved By The Time The Switch Version Arrives
Re: Yooka-Laylee Could Be Much Improved By The Time The Switch Version Arrives
Re: The ACA Neo Geo Series Has Gobbled Up Plenty Of Loose Change On The Switch eShop
Re: Video: Super Bomberman R Update Sacrifices Resolution for a Tasty Framerate
Re: Video: Super Bomberman R Update Sacrifices Resolution for a Tasty Framerate
I know it's kind of the principle of it for many, but honestly I didn't really notice it myself (granted I've only player on a 42 inch screen so far). That being said it's early days for the switch, and it ends up being a trend earlier on in consoles that developers aren't immediately the best at optimising games at first, but also get better over time (e.g. Compare early 360 to later).
Hopefully this sort of thing improves in time. It also strikes me as them having rushed the release to make it a launch title, given what we're only just getting in features now.
Re: Gawk at 'Classic Sonic' Dashing Through Green Hill Zone in Sonic Forces
Looks like Sonic Generations more or less - even the physics seem similar. Not sure why they're including Green Hill Zone again, as it's kind of overrated at this point.
Something seems and sounds off with the badniks though. The sound just doesnt seem right and theres seems to be something wrong with the collision with the, though might just be me. Only a minor thing, but kind of a shame there arent any trapped animals popping out either.
Oh well, if its as fun as zgenerstions was (and doesnt recycle the same levels) then ill check it out.
Re: Review: The Jackbox Party Pack 3 (Switch eShop)
Re: Feature: 30 Games We Might Get On The SNES Mini Classic Edition
Personally i'd be more interested in having these games on Virtual Console for switch. That being said i'd be more tempted to own this than the NES Classic. I'm a 16-bit kinda guy. But that said I don't have as much nostalgia for the console itself (hence why i'd prefer VC).
Re: Today's Super Bomberman R Update Includes Four Battle Mode Stages And Two Accessories
Well Belmont Bomber sounds interesting.
Re: Super Bomberman R Is Getting A Free Content Update This Week
Re: Video: Here's Exactly What's New And Different In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
I know a lot of players (and reviewers) felt that the lack of 'this' kind of battle mode in Mario Kart 8 brought it down. However, I'm in the extreme minority who never cared for battle. Personally I was kind of hoping for a few new tracks. Granted there is still the opportunity for DLC for this fresh release (and I hope there is).
I'll still get the game regardless though - I'd already traded my Wii U and the original version.
Re: Free DLC is Coming to Super Bomberman R
Honestly, the only DLC I'm interested in is "features" at the moment. The trouble is the game is light on them, whereas even the LIVE series had more.
There is no option to customise power-ups in multiplayer, the difficulty of the Boss AI is just absurd in Story (even on easy they're perfect with their every movement) and a lack of difficulty option for bots doesn't help either. IMO that's much more important to address than skins or relatively simplistic stages.
Re: Review: Super Bomberman R (Switch)
