Good list. Another thing that can make people flee from many SaGa games is that the thought of grinding to become stronger in order to have an easier time is usually not a thing. Often the enemies will become stronger as you do too.
Also the LP system with permadeath can be painful.
Still it's an underrated franchise and I really look forward to SF2! That game is not just fun to play (and can also be very hard) but the original is so aesthetically beautiful too

Hopefully SaGa Frontier 2 gets a remaster/remake soon too.

Bandai Namco basically slaps their older "Tales of" gameplay onto the TTIGRAAS anime. Looks interesting. Hopefully it will be good too!

Finally, gen 6 has more stuff! It was so sad how gen 6 was the only gen without extra stuff post-launch.
Seeing how PL:Arceus was oozing with potential, I'm very excited about this one!

If Square has another game ready for the HD/2D treatment, then would love for Treasure of the Rudras, Bahamut Lagoon and/or Treasure Hunter G to get remade too!
They also have one more SaGa game left to remake too (my favorite one of the series aswell!) in SaGa Frontier 2!

@ManaOwls that will come next month, according to the same rumors. Hence why we get partner direct now since Nintendo doesn't feel the need to show off new 1st party games as the new system will be backwards compatible.

The story reasoning to play them in order is indeed correct. There is a plot-twist in the second game which you can feel has a heavy impact if you played the first game first.
Then again, I feel like these two games are more one very large game split in two, as in Golden Sun part I and part II

It is VERY memorable! Sakuraba-san did a great job with the music, considering it's a GBA game!

@Serpenterror There is a remake for it, called Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town (HM:FoTM GBA game is close to a handheld port of the N64 game and the PS1 game HM:Back to Nature)

They finally added a retro Bowser's Castle track!

Still 2023 release window without any exact date for any of these.
With TGS coming next week, hopefully they will reveal release date there (+ info on Prof. Layton).
And as others have mentioned here: Hopefully they will talk about Yo-Kai Watch too!

Hopefully Level 5 will have some spotlight. We have not heard　from those three games they announced in february (Decapolice, Fantasy Life i, Prof Layton)

Great game! Took what the first game did and improved on it in almost every way! Atleast nothing felt downgraded and the gen 2 modifications made it feel new! I also remember spending so much time at Earl's Pokemon Academy to study Pokemon stuff and do the tests/quizzes!

It's a fun game, but sometimes it can get abit silly if you are just super lucky with RNG and you face a tough opponent and then win superfast because they had no other Pokemon drawn from their deck from the start of the match. Happened to me multiple times and it was quite funny.

My very first RPG and how much I fell in love with it after playing it for the first time! Even remember myself crying so much from failing time and time again to defeat Spiky Tiger. That feeling from finally defeating it in the end was so precious!
Speaking of visual goodness, I love the way the damage font appears when dealing/taking damage and how the font size goes up above 50, 100 and 200. Just the way the damage numbers shows too and how it fades out is just something I really like! For me playing newer RPGs with large damage font who pop up like that they do in SoM is something I really like!

The Pokemon World Championship in Yokohama is Aug 11th-13th so good chance it will be shown there, or be used as a quick preview of it while giving us DLC info + pack 1 release date.

Despite these being on the NSO now, I still hope both Seasons and Ages can get remakes using the Link's Awakening remake as a baseline. If possible have them both be in one game package so that you can play both and then unlock the bonus content from beating both games as the originals had!

Remember playing Seasons years ago but stopped after the sixth dungeon or so and haven't touched it since. Time to start over and finally complete it + play Ages too!

If I had to choose one of the two: Pixel remaster.

If I had to choose any version of FFIV: PSP version (Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection), which is by far the best version to play!

Many good IPs they have that needs fresh paint. Growlanser, 7th Dragon, Thunder Force, Gunstar Heroes etc.
Also would love a modern remake of Phantasy Star IV and Skies of Arcadia. Sega were also the developers of F-Zero GX so if Nintendo want them to remake that game or continue that franchise I'd be all in for that!

While I really want Wario in a sequel, I hope the koopalings will be starring as the main villains alongside Bowser (similar to the transition from SMB to SMB3). Wario could still appear as an important side-character/anti-hero.

Yoshi's Woolly World's soundtrack is amazing. The composer (Tomoya Tomita) is also the genius behind the equally amazing soundtracks of other games like Kirby's Epic Yarn and Wario Land Shake It/The Shake Dimension.
How Good Feel didn't use him for Crafted World is quite the blunder tbh.

Could also mean they might look at the possibility of making games to be released on both the Switch and it's successor, similar to some games did when Nintendo did the jump from Gamecube to Wii and Wii to Wii U (and that Sony often has done with their playstations).
The "drought" that was the final period of the Wii U before the Switch was released is something I believe Nintendo wants to avoid

Something else mentioned on the JP direct, was that Rune Factory 3 Special was getting a release date on March 2nd. Not sure if that is global or JP only but worth mentioning. They also showed some new modes like a "Newlywed mode" that RF4S also had.

Wonder if Square gonna keep the flow going with modern remasters/remakes of older JRPGs like they done with the Saga series. They still have Saga Frontier 2 left to remaster (which is IMO the best oldschool Saga game).

And speaking of JRPGs, we do get the english release of Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure next month, but wouldn't mind if they port the Trails in the Sky trilogy to the Switch.

Rune Factory 3 Special was announced in the last direct and good chance it gets a release date announced tonight.

Natsume announced a new Harvest Moon game recently named The Winds of Anthos and have said it will come this summer but still zero gameplay footage shown. Just hope it will be better than bad or mediocre for once.

A longshot and very unlikely to (ever) happen, but hey Capcom. Maybe time to join the trend and give your Breath of Fire series a beloved reawakening? (atleast the first 4 games)

Even tho Alphadream is history, I still hope Nintendo want the Mario & Luigi RPG series to continue.

Also, please Nintendo. Pretty please with sugar on top. Give us something Wario Land! A remaster (HD) of Wario Land Shake It or a new Wario Land game!

Grandia 3 remaster would be nice!
Also some QoL features added to Grandia 1 and 2 wouldn't hurt.

All tracks part of the possible "leak", though the leak suggested Maple Treeway to be in the 6th wave instead.
Not complaining though! Maple Treeway is one of my favorite tracks and one of the most aesthetically beautiful tracks in the series.

Will still get this once it's on a decent sale. The pixel art is really nice even though it does borrow alot from ALttP.

Shovel Knight going 16-bit sure is eye candy. Hope they make a new mainline Shovel Knight game in 16-bit too.

think we will see either a new Fire Emblem (mainline) game or a remake of an old one. If remake then I really hope it is remake of FE4+FE5 (Genealogy + Thracia) as that is the only FE universe that is still Japan only.

SaGa Frontier 2 is miles better than the first game. I'd say it's one of the best games in the whole SaGa series. It can be hard but the pixel-art sprites on top of hand-drawn watercolour background graphics are very beautiful, even today over 20 years later.
For those wanting to give it a go but afraid of it being hard: The Gustave route is almost always the best choice to start with. The Wil Knights route can be hard in the beginning.

Hoping for Persona 3, 4 and 5. Wouldn't surprise me if they also port the upcoming Soul Hackers 2 to the Switch.
Mario & Rabbids being developed by Ubisoft could be considered "third party" and still no info on release date so think both that game and Bayonetta 3 will get some decent air time with release dates (I'd say Bayonetta 3 in October and Mario & Rabbids in December).
Else I hope to get some more news regarding Dragon Quest, especially the HD-2D remake of DQ3. Guess the Japan-version of the direct will get info of DQ10 offline version.
Front Mission 1 remake is scheduled to come this summer so think that game will get a new trailer with release date. Same with the Disney racing game.
The remaster of the Romancing SaGa 1 remake will prolly get atleast a mention too.
Can also expect some indie stuff too. Hollow Knight Silksong seems very likely to be mentioned after it got a new trailer earlier this month.

@FleaBag_11 on the contrary, it is still very possible. They just don't want XC3 to take 20min by itself so they make it have its own direct first.

As ex.NL Jon and his crew on GVG mentioned in their live-reaction stream is that the hair design on both male and female black player trainers looks amazing.
I totally agree and it's a nice touch of detail in the design.

The Scarlet professor looks like she is related to Ayla from Chrono Trigger with her prehistoric design, aside her professor coat.

....oh and she got abs too.

I'd also like to add Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Sword of Mana to that line-up too.
Also, since Nintendo tend to also give us some more obscure but hidden gem title in their NSO releases then I'd like to recommend Pinobee: Wings of Adventure, Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, ChuChu Rocket!, Drill Dozer, Klonoa: Empire of Dreams, Konami Krazy Racers, Sabre Wulf and Shining Soul (both 1 and 2).
If they were to do some cool "first-ever western translate/release" then I'd hope (in addition to Mother 3) that they give us one of the three Densetsu no Stafy (Legend of Starfy) games and the JP-only game in the F-Zero series: F-Zero Climax.

Also think they will announce the Pokemon Home connections to BDSP and PLA on sunday and when those will happen.
I'm kinda curious though if they will talk about the 3DS eshop closure in terms of the Pokémon Bank and the future of trading from gen 5-8 for those who miss out on getting Pokemon bank in time before next year.

maybe a long shot, but perhaps they want to make SwSh relevant along with BDSP/PLA until gen 9 (and whatever they announce on the 27th, which I guess is Let's Go gen 2) by giving it MK8D treatment with more paid DLC.
Could do 2 more waves with the remaining pokemon not in the game from before and maybe also add the new hisuian pokemon and hisuian forms and evolution to give gen 8 more exposure until a gen 9 announcement (which I expect to be announced and released in 2023).

@somnambulance the mii's are there. The presenters used Mii characters when doing the volleyball demonstration

Black 2 & White 2 IMO are the best, closely followed by HeartGold and SoulSilver. Also think Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon are decent.

Getting some Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore vibes from the combat there. Hope it has more action RPG elements in addition to the lovely sim!

Critadel I have on my wishlist for both Switch and Steam. Semi-intense 2D action-platformer with beautiful 16-bit pixel art. Certainly gonna buy once on sale.
Lumione feels like a mix of Ori graphics and Celeste gameplay. A very good looking precision platformer. Worth to atleast have on wishlist.

Despite the long wait, it will be worth it for sure!
