Re: Xbox Confirms It's Looking Into A Potential Handheld Device

Cipher36

@bransby Same here, I would be interested in seeing what they offer for the reason of simplicity. As I've gotten older I enjoy ease of use over fidgety complicated systems more. Don't even care if it's the most powerful as long as it's easy to use and fun. I just want to play the games, nothing more. I'm currently down to two systems I actively support: Nintendo (physical) and Xbox (Gamepass). If MS can give me a quality portable system for Gamepass I'd be all in. My steamdeck is fine, but it's more a holdover from decades of PC gaming.

Re: Metal Slug Tactics

After all this time, it looks like we finally may meet face to fact this week-end. I hope I'm not disappointed, after all, I've heard some things recently.

Re: Japanese Charts: Ain't No Party Like A Mario Party

Cipher36

@Gatorclops
I highly doubt it's "more likely" as the current meme trending is "aint no party like a Diddy party"... considering it's probably the most popular meme right now, I'd be hard pressed to believe they are referencing a 25 year old song that is totally irrelevant in 2024. Even if it were, it's in bad taste at this moment in time given the current trending meme and its disgusting meaning.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Collections And Compilation Games

Cipher36

@EarthboundBenjy Totally understand what you're saying, but for whatever odd reason it doesn't bother me and I don't really feel it. I'm very familiar with the games as I'm old and grew up on them as well as having them on the Genesis still today. Totally get using it for Phantasy Star 4, I think I solved it the first week it came out and loved every minute of it. One of my top 5 games on the Genesis.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Collections And Compilation Games

Cipher36

I love compilations, have about 95% of what's listed above. I have to say because I know it takes a lot of heat, the Sega Genesis collection has always played good for me? I hear people and believe they are getting horrible lag, but honestly I don't? With that said, it's basically the list above that has made the Switch my number one console of all time. I love being able to relieve all the classics in both handheld and docked on one machine. It's a match made in heaven.

Re: Soapbox: Sony's Insane PS5 Pro Price Highlights The Delicate Balance Nintendo Must Strike With 'Switch 2'

Cipher36

First it's wonderful to see the crazy price of the PS3 adjusted for inflation as it's the system that got me over Sony. I remember the interview where it was basically said "yeah, we know we don't have any games at all, but we can sell your kid an expensive system even if it means mowing more lawns all summer, and they are going to love it because Sony". Second, man am I loving retro games more all the time.

Re: Video: Sakurai Explains The Need For Online Updates And Patches

Cipher36

True story, when I was young in the 70's and 80's we bought games and played them almost always from beginning to end with very little issue. Did they have bugs, sure some did, but you almost always could find an easy enough way around them. I miss games where when you buy it, that's what it is.

For better or for worse, I sure miss those days.

Re: Here's Your First Look At The Gex Trilogy For Nintendo Switch

Cipher36

Road Rash, Street Fighter, Sam. Sho, Way of the Warrior, Gex, Need for Speed, Immercenary, Return Fire, Wing Commander HotT and Shockwave ... can we just get a nice 3DO compilation to bring back the feels. I know they are all from diff. publishers and I know that Way of the Warrior was really bad, I still played it, and I'm proud of it.

Re: Netflix Reveals The First Official Look At Liam Hemsworth In 'The Witcher'

Cipher36

I'm just going to say I really liked Cavill in the Witcher, even if the seasons went downhill pretty quickly. Just as with other roles in other movies and shows, he really made it his own, enough that I think anyone coming in after him is going to feel like a bit of a poser. I could be wrong and we'll see, but I do have to admit I'm not excited to find out.

Re: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Online Pre-Orders Are Apparently Being Cancelled (US)

Cipher36

@diowine While I don't really like to pre-order, I have learned to after many many games I have have tried to get are sold out at launch or near launch in my area. I now pre-order simply for peace of mind that I'm not going to be out driving around several towns or watching online for something to come back into stock. If you PO on Amazon they don't charge your card until it ships, just an FYI.
Hope that helps.

Re: Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves Looks Slick As Heck In New Character Trailer

Cipher36

Mark of the Wolves is one of my all time favorite fighting games. This one, I'm on the fence about as I don't really like all the special effects making so much screen noise you can't actually see the fighters and their moves. It just looks like they are punching each other with cans of confetti. I know I'm in the minority (or I think I am), but I just think fighting games are overdoing it with the laser light shows these days.

Re: The Game Awards GOTY For 2023 Is Baldur's Gate 3

Cipher36

Found the whole thing rather boring. Being a long time game player, back when all games didn't need to run at the speed of light or having strobing light effects for every action taken in the game, I just felt like what I saw was a lot of flashy graphics to hold the players attention. To me, it just makes a mess out of a screen when looking at it. Not that "I can't" keep up with the visuals, it's that I don't think they add to a game as much as the younger crowd does, and often cheapen or lesson the experience. I'm hoping in another 10 years we'll get back to just solid games. There are of course many, but not enough in today's market.

Re: Oh Dear, Contra: Operation Galuga's Physical Edition Is A Download Code In A Box

Cipher36

@CANOEberry "Ken Kutaragi telling gamers to work harder for a PS3" - Being someone who has played and collected since Pong, this is the reason I skipped the PS3 until just recently when I got one for free. At the time I just couldn't believe the arrogance of that guy, I remember listening to him and had an immediate "nope"..... Thanks for that blast from the past.

Re: Oh Dear, Contra: Operation Galuga's Physical Edition Is A Download Code In A Box

Cipher36

I have a simple rule for digital / download code (physical games). I pay no more than $20.00 for a new release of a new game and no more than $10.00 for a re-release of an old game. I figure if I don't own it by it being digital, I'll pay up to the amount above for what it's worth to rent for a while. Keeps it easy.

As I've been saying for over 20 years now, the all digital future is going to suck.
