@Anti-Matter Honestly, I feel exactly the same. Even when I see a game I'm interested in I'm only excited until I see it's a GKC. At that point I find another console to buy it on.
@ozwally While I don't disagree, I trust my ability to pick something up and actually do it without issue even more than I would trust others like DF. I don't need the weather man to tell me if it's snowing outside I'll simply look out the window, so Nintendo saying they "need" the faster transfer speeds doesn't make sense. More like, they would "like" the faster transfer speeds and not bothered by the consumer paying for it.
@ozwally Which is crazy when you consider that my Steamdeck as well as a lot of other handheld systems don't have a problem with data transfer speeds even with a normal SD card.
@Galaxy2IsTheGOAT Well, I've owned a switch 2 since day one, even bought one for my wife (to play old games better), and I've yet to purchase a single Switch 2 game beyond Fast Fusion for $15. I purchased roughly 450 games during the switch 1 generation, mostly physical, and now I'm thinking I may own 10 or so this generation.. I guess I'm doing my part.
@Debo626 Honestly, other handhelds that are even more powerful and play games better don't even use EX cards, so really it does feel a little slimy when you add it all together. 1. New more expensive memory format 2. Higher priced games games in general 3. Almost no physical games sold, so you need that higher priced memory card to store their games.
So what do we get, we pay more for not owning anything, and then we pay a premium for the storage to put it on. Yeah I get what that person was saying.
@jfp The problem is when you pay that much for a game, you like to load, play.... play something else, play something else, come back to it and play it more.... wait you had to delete it to play those other games.... delete other games, load, play.... But you knew that.
Looks like a black box to me, or if I have to, half an xbox series x. Nah, just looks like a small black square. Ether way, as I'm getting out of modern day gaming, I'll probably pick one up to play through my almost 800 steam games in a more palatable way. Why don't you just get a pc they say, because I had been on pc's for decades, and I really don't like MS and I like the ease of a console much more.
This is one of the three games I'm willing to purchase as a GKC if needed. Love MHS1&2 and got so much time out of them. As for the Standard, Standard Deluxe, Standard Super Deluxe, Standard Super Deluxe Ultimate, Standard Super Deluxe Ultimate Max, Standard Super Deluxe Ultimate Max Premium versions,.... Yeah companies sure have lost their way. But I guess money can do that to people.
I'm happy that Nintendo is upgrading existing games for the new system, but I'm also a little let down thinking that it looks like they are just going to be happy re-releasing old stuff with a new coat of paint. I'd prefer new stuff.
@Jborgy Ironically the patch removed 4 mb from the footprint on the switch 2. It went from 202 mb to 194 mb. So I'm thinking no on it making Galaxy the same
At some point it will be realized that people want stuff created by people, warts and all. If the dream is that AI is going to make these amazing things, the "amazing" just becomes cookie cutter normal, at which point it's the human stuff that will stand out.
I was in the market to pick one up, that is right up to the point that Microsoft raised my monthly sub price from $20 to $30 without notice... factor in I pay for 2 subs in my household and I just wasn't willing to give them $720 a year for a subscription service. Suffice to say, I dropped to the lowest tier until I decide whether or not I'm just going to drop them al together... And I've been there since day 1, back over 20 years ago.
The quick math says I purchase 50 to 60 a year. That will be slowing way down I'm sure as I'm not really feeling the Switch 2 era. Most of what I'll be playing is Switch 1 games on my Switch 2, and that catalog has very few games I'm still in the market for.
@DsheroX Yeah, I'm excited for the day I find one worth buying. It's even worse that I've purchased 2 Switch 2's, one for me and one for my wife. Now to be fair I still love my Switch 2 for playing Switch 1 games on a bigger screen and running better so that part has been worth it. I love DK, but the new game didn't appeal to me at all as I don't like flashy stuff in my games as I think it detracts from the game... Ie.. blinding you from what's actually on the screen. I have CP on a couple of other platforms so I didn't pick it up here and RF, I just wasn't looking for. Probably a good game, but that series hadn't hooked me. Anyway, good luck to us both for future games, I think we are going to need it.
@DsheroX Same here, I have a shelf of Switch 1 games that is roughly 12 feet long, I can fit my physical switch 2 collection in exactly zero feet long, because up to this point I don't own a single Switch 2 game beyond Fast Fusion digitally.
@AverageGamer OK, so then basically I don't have anything to talk about during the Switch 2 era based on the fact that what went from an option, to pretty much every 3rd party game is now a Game Key Card? Nah..... I'm sorry I bought my Switch 2 with the intention of getting games for it. If I'm interested in a game I should probably be able to discuss it, sadly if I'm not willing to pay full price for an empty card all I know about said game is that I don't own it. That's what I'll talk about. You do you.
@AverageGamer This is kinda the point, it's a pretty big deal for many reasons. People aren't so much talking about the game at this point because they are not able to purchase the game in a format they like. Ie.... Nintendo's dumb decisions are keeping people from the games they should be talking about. So instead I suppose we only have the fact that we aren't getting the game to talk about, which leads us back to why we are not getting the game. You could say Microsoft and Sony have done the same thing, hence why I stopped collecting on their systems and Nintendo became the last bastion of hope we would continue to get physical games. The fact that Nintendo said we would and they still use the cartridge slot at all kinda led many to believe they were still safe for another generation. We were not. Oh well, it was a fun ride at least.
I would agree that it's silly when people complain about people complaining about game key cards. The bottom line people like what they like for their own reasons. In the case of most games coming out on a GKC, it is a big deal because a lot of people purchased their switch 2's thinking they would be able to continue to purchase what they wanted... ie... physical media with games on them. In this case almost everything coming out is a download and that's it. You may like the color blue, I might not.... I don't chastise you for liking it so why would you chastise me for not liking it. I personally am a collector who loves not only playing games but collecting them as well. That's where I want to spend my money, and the fact that switch 2 barely has any games that are sold on cartridge really sucks. And I do believe it should be my choice if I wanted to collect empty pieces of plastic or not. It's basically the thing that has gotten me out of game collecting for roughly 5 decades. I think that's something worth complaining about, especially when Nintendo pushed GKC's as simply an option, now they are basically the rule.
Super Ghost N Goblins, one of my top three games of all time... you can never go wrong with this franchise. Should probably also point out that there is a Capcom retro collection on Humble Bundle right now that offers this and many many other Capcom games for a really nice price.
@HalBailman
"Who is whinging about key cards and still buying":
Books - Buy them all the time
CDs - No but I do buy records
PC boxed games - Gave up the PC a long time ago, one of the reasons being I love collecting physical games
video discs - I would buy them, but modern movies kinda suck. When a good one does come out I track down the 4K disc though.
Just wanted to give you an honest response. I also buy a ***** ton of board games because I like the physical medium it brings with it. Some people, probably on the older side of gaming, love physical media for many reasons.
@WheresWaveRace Right there with you, been around since pong and have collected systems ever since. With that said, I'm a physical collector all the way. Yes I have digital games, but only because I get them at very good deals or not at all. As you've stated I also have a home filled with a bit too much stuff, but I'm not sure I'd change a thing... just buy a bigger house I guess.
@WheresWaveRace I think you run into a problem when you have a lot of games and they are of a decent size. Example would be I have over 600 games on steam, there is no way on earth I'd be able to afford to have them all downloaded and on an SD card. And if the game needed the absolute fastest transfer speed it would need to be on internal memory, of which the Switch 2 has a very small amount compared to modern game sizes.
As a testament to how bad the Switch 2 launch has been in my eyes, I watched this direct which had a lot of stuff I would have used to care about, and came away meh.... Fire Emblem was there, but then Fire Emblem is one of the three series I'll buy no matter what.
I worked at a software etc. when this first came out. We had three of them set up in the back of the store to demo.... At least 50% of the time when someone would go back and try the virtual boy they would leave sick... a few even threw up in our store. So, every time someone would go back to play on them, myself and the other employee would cease our conversations to see what was going to happen next. Ahhh, the good ole days.
I have purchased 2 switch 2's at this point. I purchased them to play my Switch 1 games, ie.... it's a great switch pro. That said - Switch 1 library - Amazing Switch 2 library - irrelevant because it's released on a crap format Don't really care how many amazing games it could have if they are on a format I'm not interested in. At that point they might as well not exist at all. I currently own 1 "switch 2" game and that's Fast Fusion... I bought it because it was cheap, looked decent and I wanted to have at least one purchase in the Switch 2 generation. Actually, there are a handful of future games I'll purchase regardless of format, but that's a testament to the game alone. I'm very happy with my Switch 2, but the actual switch 2 games library is getting a solid F from me at this time. What a weird sentence as it's very true.
The Switch Two generation has been a cluster. Honestly Nintendo has turned me from a huge physical collector of Nintendo to literally I couldn't care less if they ever release another game. All of the good will they garnered from me during the last generation is gone and I'm considering just playing the collection I currently own and calling it quits.
I think this person is out of their mind. What a time to say Nintendo is in touch with it fanbase.... Pretty much everything they have done since the Switch 2 launch has been backwards, irritating or just plain meh... I think this person needs to think about what they are saying, as it is, Nintendo is the most out of touch it's been with its fanbase since the Wii-U.
Honest question, is it not really a racing game a la Mario Kart? My wife loves MK, I personally can't stand the rubber banding and extra nice gifts to the people not doing well. I feel like it's the "racing" game that consistantly makes second place the winner.
@TYRANACLES Hopefully you're non US as I've been waiting on the inevitable physical release here in the states, Play Asia has them as coming soon but nothing yet. I say this because I ordered a Ragebound from Clear River UK because they had been up for a good while with no US release showing... So I ordered one and then two days later they announced a US release... I'm too lazy/irritated to cancel and order the US one at this point.
@Blast16
12 NEOGEO games/collections are on sale right now starting at $4.79. One the them is the Samurai Showdown Collection $39 normally, for $9.99. Most of them are the NEOGEO Pocket games, but the SamSho, Windjammers are from reg. Neo with the SS collection being a very nice deal.
@Blast16 They actually go on sale quit a bit, I've picked up 16 or so and passed on many more. Normally when they go on sale they do like 5 or 6 at a time. Just mark them as favorite and you'll see them flagged when they are cheaper, usually $3.99. With that said, I've still picked up all 8 volumes so far, because NEOGEO.
Just getting ready to order this as an import, was hoping to see if it would get a US physical version or not? Have not seen it yet, but I'm sure I will shortly after I import it in.
@Liam_Doolan Yes, that's what I was asking as I have the Japanese editions 1-4 with 5+6 on the way, all have English. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something where they were actually having a US release as I don't think they ever will.
To the best f my knowledge there has not been an English release in this series. Either way I now have the first 6 volumes from importing them so I’ll be good
@Solid_Python You mean with this controller or the Switch2 console specifically? I know you can wake the Switch with many such as the 8bitdo Ultimate 2C.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows' Beefy Switch 2 File Size Has Been Revealed
@Jeronan Kinda crazy when you think about it, the easiest way to reliably play a game in 2025 is to dig out the system you had in 1986 and play it.
