Re: Nintendo Download: 25th June (Europe)

Chubblings

Does anyone know where to find a physical copy of Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 in the UK (or is it digital only)?

Anyway, I'll be too busy this week anyway with Yoshi's Wooly World and Batman Arkham Knight.

Re: Video: Who Needs a New Sonic Game When You Have Splatoon's Inkbrush?

Chubblings

@SuperWiiU I want a GOOD new Sonic game. I don't care if it's for Wii U, 3DS, NX, PS4, X1, whatever—Lost World was fine, but I want something in the vein of Generations again (in the Modern Sonic gameplay). What's really weird though, is that Sonic games are usually on a 2 development cycle (maximum). So with Lost World coming out in 2013, I'm surprised there hasn't been an announcement of the next game, since Sonic Team have been working on it.

Re: PlatinumGames to Unveil a New Title at E3

Chubblings

@rjejr "Their games are so good, it's a shame more people don't play them."
^This. I couldn't agree with you more, those folks at PG truly make magic with games (except Korra, which doesn't really count, being a low budget title an all). With W101 and Bayo2 on Wii U, and coupled with the fact that PG likes working with Nintendo, I think Nintendo should put some cash in to get them as a second party dev.

@Knuckles I liked Metal Gear Rising Revengeance! The only problem I had with it was that, it as a bit short, but a fantastic game nonetheless. Revengeance 2 would be great, now that you mention it, ugh..... there's so many different projects they could go with (MGR2, Bayo3, W102, etc.), but I have no doubt that whatever it is, will be fantastic.

Re: PlatinumGames to Unveil a New Title at E3

Chubblings

@rjejr Although I'd be really happy for them if one of their games sells really well, I believe the reason why they're able to continually do projects is because sales don't matter. Specifically in that, unlike many devs, they're given a certain amount of money to do a project (that's not their own), and their job is simply to make the best game they can with that money, and then they get paid for it. I don't think they get a cut from sales (though correct me if I'm wrong).

Re: Feature: Go Fast - An Ode To The Glorious Chaos Of F-Zero

Chubblings

@Shiryu You need not apologise, it's not your fault. It was a somewhat tongue-in-cheek comment. In all seriousness, I really do like this article, as your passion for the series really shows through your writing (gives emotion to the piece) and we seem to share the same opinions on the series. I hate to raise my hopes up, but F-Zero UX (that's what I would call it) could definitely be a plausible possibility (given Nintendo's 'unannounced titles' and their recent venture with Mario Kart 8). At the very least, if there's no new F-Zero for Wii U, I'd at least like a port for F-Zero GX on Wii U, or better yet, a remaster with 1080p/60fps visuals and online...I'm getting a bit ahead of myself aren't I.

Re: This Is The Ultimate Way To Display Your Treasured amiibo

Chubblings

@Hazmavore Well it's good to hear that some customers have been able to get them because the frustration I have with these amiibos isn't that they sell out, but rather the way they do with scalpers, as they ruin everything (though Nintendo can be blamed for not keeping up with demand).

Re: Nintendo "Currently Investigating" The Idea Of A Region-Free NX

Chubblings

@Azooooz The main issue I have with region locking is in the instance that for example, someone lives in the UK or somewhere in Europe (so PAL system and games), and for whatever reason (job, etc.) they have to move to the US (where the games and systems are NTSC), it really screws them over. Sure you could use the eShop, but with Nintendo's shady online infastructure in that things are tied to the console, people may not want to go digital (and Nintendo's digital prices are ridiculous)
Furthermore, there are a lot of fallacies regarding region locking. When people use the excuse that the DS had a lot of piracy due to region locking, this is not because of region locking, but rather because Nintendo had a poor anti-piracy system in place. Also, games that are region free these days are localised for every platform. Nintendo is the only one continuing with this outdated practice, and it's ridiculous.

Re: Video: Gengar Confirmed as a Fighter in Pokkén Tournament

Chubblings

@edgedino I understand the thought process behind it all, it's just that this would be a great addition to the Wii U library, and I suppose the hype for it overcame my rational outlook on the situation. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what new characters are unveiled as we come closer to its release in Japan.

Re: Video: Gengar Confirmed as a Fighter in Pokkén Tournament

Chubblings

That looks fantastic! Now just add in Nidorino (M.), have him fight Gengar, and then my nostalgia levels will go through the roof. Seriously though, you would think Nintendo would have the common sense to see this would be great for Wii U seeing how so much effort has been put into it.

Re: Digital Foundry Puts Splatoon's 60fps Promise to the Test

Chubblings

@akaDv8R I apologise...I should have realised that sarcasm doesn't translate well into text (I'll edit in the "SARCASM" thing at the end of my comment to prevent any further misunderstandings). I'm well aware of 30fps vs. 60fps, and also know that anyone can see the difference (though 60 vs. 120 is a bit difficult).
My first statement to @Wouwter was continuing off of his/her (whichever applicable) joke on how devs constantly justify 30 as superior to 60 (you can see his/her comment in regards to this) when they can't achieve 60fps, using petty untrue excuses such as, people can't tell the difference, hence the sarcasm in the post.
My reply to @PLATINUM7 was on a more serious note, in reference to how he/she said devs go for 30 instead of 60, to which I said they likely try, but are not always able to reach that target, and therefore PR excuses come.
Once again I do apologise if my comments came across as ignorance, as far as I know, we're on the same standpoint based on your views, and as such this was just a misunderstanding pertaining to how sarcasm is not always easily detectible in text.

Re: Digital Foundry Puts Splatoon's 60fps Promise to the Test

Chubblings

@Wouwter I know man...human eye can't see above 30fps anyways, silly Nintendo.

@PLATINUM7 I wouldn't say that many games go for the 30fps as opposed to 60. Rather, I would say that devs do try to get 60fps if it's possible (key word: possible). They can bring up cinematic BS as much as they want, the fact of the matter is this: when they can't get the game to successfully run at 60fps, they immediately turn to petty excuses (looking at you, Ubisoft). However, when they are able to reach 60fps in games, they then promote the heck out of it, suddenly claiming how amazing 60fps is (See the Last of Us: Remastered). Thankfully, Nintendo is free from this 30-60 scandal, but I do wish devs were just honest instead of coming up with excuses.

EDIT: [SARCASM] if it wasn't clear.

Re: Feature: The Best Pro Wrestling Games That the N64 Has to Offer

Chubblings

@NorthLightSuplx Yeah, Finn Balor to me will be the main guy when he comes over to the main roster (if Vince doesn't screw up his character just because he's Irish). He has the look, in ring-ability, decent on the mic, and most importantly, has the IT factor. But yeah, the main event is going to be unpredictable, and I definitely like your idea (esp. since Heyman's been teasing over the past few weeks) because Reigns is not getting over as babyface. I myself though, am hoping Heyman turns on Lesnar, Reigns turns heel, but Brock still retains (becomes next big face, since crowd loves him)...but when it seems like he's going to stand tall, Reigns takes him out (makes Reigns look strong despite losing) and Rollins cashes in and wins.

Re: Feature: The Best Pro Wrestling Games That the N64 Has to Offer

Chubblings

Wrestlemania 31 tonight! The buildup for the feuds overall has been meh, but the matches themselves shouldn't disappoint. The match I'm looking forward to is the IC ladder match (that's been booked perfectly IMO).

On the topic of the article, I definitely agree (No Mercy! is still fun to play today), though, as of recent memory, the wrestling games haven't been great, some have, but generally, they're okay, like 2k15 for PS4/X1 had awesome story mode and great graphics, but lacking in customisation and some awkward game mechanics).

Re: Poll: Vote For Your Ten Must-Play Games On Nintendo 3DS

Chubblings

@Pius No need to say sorry, you were on the side of justice! See here:
defendant, Thomas, clearly stated, "I specifically explain why it's retail only in the article, therefore no dual destinies. "
Objection Slams Desk
The defendant is clearly lying. He states retail games count for the poll...but Dual Destinies was a retail release in Japan!

All joking aside though, I do wonder if NintendoLife will run an article with the Top 10 eShop only releases as well.

Re: GameStop Lists Crazy Majora's Mask New Nintendo 3DS XL 'Massive Bundle' for $500, Sells Out Almost Instantly

Chubblings

I'm so thankful that I was able to get my hands on one in the UK before they sold out (was literally checking Nintendo Store every hour to see when the LE system would pop ever since the direct showed it). Though I do think that while, it is limited edition, Nintendo probably should have made a few more, so as to prevent sad situations like this, where even a retail place, is joining in on the scalping.

Re: Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson Confirmed For European Launch, Embarrassing Limited Edition Packs Promised

Chubblings

@Quorthon Meh, it's not my type of game (as I don't mind sexuality/nudity, as there are games like GTA which do that right, but this is just too blatant for me), but I have heard it has a decent storyline and gameplay. Nevertheless, it's just a matter of cultural differences, which I can respect. Though it's not for me, it does add another game to the 3DS Library for this year. Although the 3DS has had a tremendous library and IMO is my favourite Nintendo handheld ever: it's a bit barren with releases this year, and I suppose this game will also fill a niche.

Re: Fans Are Translating Dragon Quest VII On 3DS Because Square Enix Won't

Chubblings

It's great that fans are doing this, but Squenix should really see the potential money in front of them (IMO, aside from a few hits such as Deux Ex: HR, Squeenix hasn't been the same since they first changed the name from Squaresoft. Though FFXV does look really good). I'm really getting the vibes from when Capcom wouldn't (and still hasn't) localised Miles Edgeworth Ace Attorney Investigations 2/Gyakuten Kenji 2, and fans took the matter in their own hands, and now you can play the game in English.

Re: GameStop Italy Lists Majora's Mask New Nintendo 3DS XL Model For Re-Stock on 27th March

Chubblings

@NinjaWaddleDee I'd have a feeling it has something to do with the Zelda name. I recall the Limited Edition Zelda 3DS that came with Ocarina of Time, and that sold out relatively quickly (if I recall). Nevertheless, the plausible explanation is likely that Nintendo produced so few of them (Iwata did mention a possibility of stock shortages of the "New" systems in general), and couple that with the growing factor of scalpers, and voila, there it sells out quickly.
Economically speaking, it is a very safe strategy of what they're doing by producing not as much, that's a guaranteed sellout, as opposed to a huge amount of stock and it still being there (that's also why the "New" systems did not grace the West in the Winter, because Nintendo were trying to finish off as many of their old XL models as possible).

Re: GameStop Italy Lists Majora's Mask New Nintendo 3DS XL Model For Re-Stock on 27th March

Chubblings

@exegesis48 Ah yes, perhaps the most valid reason to bring region free to Nintendo systems...region lock is simply too inconvenient for those who move between regions. I live in the UK and was able to get the MM3D XL, but I can imagine in the hypothetical situation that I moved to the US, it would be extremely inconvenient (due to all my Nintendo systems and games being PAL region).

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Record Decent Week 2 UK Sales

Chubblings

The Order's not a terrible game but suffers from many detrimental flaws that prevent it from being worth the full retail price:
A. Way too short—only 5-7 hours to beat it, and it's a SINGLE player game, no online multiplayer (and unlike a game like Arkham Asylum per se, which was actually 10-12 hours at least, this isn't anything revolutionary)

B. It's an FPS that isn't 60fps (it's only 30fps) AND it isn't 1080p either (some weird 'cinematic' cop-out excuse).

As a result, I don't see how this game did well at all.

Re: Feature: A Celebration of HAL Laboratory - Forever Focused on Fun

Chubblings

@mowerdude It's bad for your neck too. Anyways, when thinking of what actual gamepad integration is, the perfect combination Nintendo should be aiming for is something that's intuitive, that the player only occasionally looks down at. Though the Wii U is most like a DS, the big difference is that gamepad is not actually attached to the bottom of your display, so Nintendo should focus on ways where their customers can use it, without it feeling really forced (Splatoon for example, with it's gyro controls most similar to mouse and keyboard, works really well, as the player uses the controller to aim, and looks at the Gamepad only for a split second to make moves).

Re: January NPD Results Bring Improvement for Wii U and Top 10 Sales for Super Smash Bros.

Chubblings

@JaxonH Exactly! If this trend of selling about half as much, as say the PS4, throughout the entire gen, and we see PS4 with about 60-70 million systems by the end of this gen, that would still mean Wii U had about 30-35 million. Again, no-one is expecting the Wii U to win this generation, but if it hits a reasonable 25 million+ (but I'm thinking 30-40 million) units where they're making decent profit, that's perfectly fine. At the end of the day, as long as Wii U is a profitable endeavour and 3DS continues to sell like it has been, Nintendo is more than fine.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's YouTube Creators Program 'Beta' Provides Vital Feedback - It Won't Work

Chubblings

This article hit the nail on the head. Even though Nintendo can do it, that doesn't mean they should, because in the long run, this is only going to hurt them with loss of potential sales. Take for example, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (or Paintbrush if you will), I wasn't sold on buying the game at all because I was unsure, but when I watched some videos of people playing it, that's what really sold me on it, and now it's a day-one purchase. So really this policy Nintendo is taking is not wise, and the worst part of it all is that they're the only publisher doing this nonsense, as pretty much all other dev endorse YouTube.

TotalBiscuit's video on it perhaps makes the most valid point:
http://youtu.be/t-67CvWTQ0I

Re: Talking Point: Star Fox for Wii U is an Ongoing and Surprising Mystery

Chubblings

@unrandomsam Since only some press members were privy to it, I am guessing that they were sworn to some secrecy or something of that sort. Heck, even the Mass Effect 4 presentation (before it was revealed to the masses) on its story and whatnot to Bioware's FANS, to this day has not been leaked, with there only being some speculation. And even those selected fans were asked to swear to secrecy, so I'm guessing the same holds true for the press with Star Fox.

Re: Fry's Electronics Cancels Some New Nintendo 3DS Majora's Mask System Pre-Orders Due to Excessive Demand

Chubblings

These retailers should know how much stock that they are getting, it is simply irresponsible of them to put a product up for buying for customers, only to inform them that they can't. Anyways, even though Nintendo has been botching recently with supply and demand (see amiibo and gamecube adapter), this time I don't blame Nintendo. This is a limited edition system, if it sells out quickly then they shouldn't have to make more, the name says LIMITED. Anyways, in this Majora's Mask scenario, it's really up to how retailers handle it, and they haven't been handling it well.

Re: YouTube Stars Aren't Happy With Nintendo's Revenue-Sharing 'Creators Program'

Chubblings

@Spade_the_prinny Well, I think that YouTube in itself is a very unstable job to be living of off. If one day, all these corporations (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, EA, Activision, etc.) said no more monetising of videos, and we get all the money, pretty much all Let's Players' jobs would go down the drain, as the companies do have every right to because it's their content and people are making money of off it without any sort of their own original views, and thus the law is in the corporations' favour. It is different however, when you have a video game critique, such as TotalBiscuit, who critiques games, and should the aforementioned hypothetical scenario occur, he would be protected under law and still make his living.

Nevertheless, it is of my opinion that although Nintendo has every right to carry out this policy, it actually ends up being better for them without it, for as everyone else has said, free publicity.

Re: Video: You NEED To Play Metroid Prime Trilogy

Chubblings

@6ch6ris6 I don't get it...wouldn't the fact that a lot of people buying the Wii VC on Wii U lead Nintendo to ponder that a lot of people liked Metroid Prime and want a new one? Because you're saying that you hope people won't buy them, so I'm just curious at why you think by people not buying them will lead to a new Metroid Prime, when it should in fact, lead to the opposite.

Re: Talking Point: It's Time to Salute The Nintendo 3DS, Defying Early Gloom to Pass 50 Million Sales

Chubblings

This is easily to me the best Nintendo handheld, definitely ranking up high in best Nintendo consoles of all time. It has the dual screen layout like the DS, but unlike the DS in now way does it feel being gimmicky by shoving down touch screen controls (to this day I can't play Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks for those very reasons) while the 3D itself even if some may find it gimmicky, there still is an option to turn it off for those who don't like it, the buttons layouts are all nice, and it has a great variety of games, be it fighters, platforms, shooter, puzzle, adventure, and so on. All of my 3DS games have been fun to play and some have even brought to me some of my best gaming experiences in a while (Fire Emblem Awakening, A Link Between Worlds, Pokémon Omega Ruby, Kingdom Hearts 3D just to name a few).
