With The Great Ace Attorney, the next installment in Capcom's Ace Attorney series, slated for a 9 July release in Japan, the company is drumming up hype with a new trailer featuring a bold new design choice. Taking the setting back to Meiji era Japan and throwing Sherlock Holmes and Watson into the mix is interesting, sure, but it's hard to say anyone predicted this.
Yes, as you likely suspected, this is a Capcom April Fools joke for Japan. They even made a fun webpage for it and everything! Phoenix fans might also notice that the main character in this farce is a shiba inu, the same breed as police dog Missile in the series.
Still, anything that reminds us a new Ace Attorney is coming to the world (and will hopefully release outside Japan!) is a good thing. And... and man, this makes us want Animal Crossing vs. Phoenix Wright, you guys...

I love this so much and find all the designs adorable except for the fey one, that one felt bland
That's actually pretty adorable.
Haha, great
I can hear the screams for this becomming a thing already.
And you know what ? Animal Crossing Vs Phoenix Wright doesnt even sound half bad. Who doesnt want to solve the case of the stolen strawberry pattern chair ?
My initial reaction 12 seconds in: (WARNING: Includes an F-bomb)

But in all seriousness, I loved this .
Aw that should become a proper game. Kinda like Sherlock Hound. Now that would be awesome!!
I need them to add this as dlc. Come on capcom you know you THOUGHT about it! Also... I NEEEEEED THIS GAME!
Sherlock Hound. ;_;
Yep, we just got a sneak peek at some of the amazing DLC this game will offer.
It'd be funny if they announced a western release date and confirmed a physical copy coming to the west as well, then scream april fools at the end. I'd laugh so hard that it'd probably be mistaken as horrible grief and sadness!
@Einherjar It wasn't strawberry patterned until NOOK SPILLED THE BLOOD OF CRAZY REDD ON IT.
What time is it in Japan?
I want it... I want it... GIVE IT TO ME CAPCOM!
I'd love to play a Sherlock Hound Ace Attorney game!
If Capcom took risks, they would work this as a new IP. Reminds me of Solatorobo.
Guess announcing a new Megaman game would be too obvious.
I'd play a Sherlock Hound Ace Attorney game, LOL!
If only they realized there was an actual market for these things.
@TimLatshaw HEY ! NO Spoilers !
I agree with those that think this ought to at least be a DLC chapter. FFS, we had whales in the previous game's DLC.
I'd buy that. (No joke!)
Can we put a law in place that if companies present something appealing as an April Fool's joke, they are legally obligated to make it real?
Because I'd very much be willing to give my money for this. :V
Ace Attorney: Furry Edition
Oh my god I would soooo play this!
Capcom, you like money don'tcha? wiggles money at them
...Oh wait, right. You guys only like DLC, not money. ;-;
@TobiasAmaranth Judging by some avis here, they'd get plenty of sales
@BLPs No, no you don't! You don't REALLY have any games to work on! I CAN'T FALL FOR ANY OF YA'LL'S APRIL FOOLS!!
I'd seriously play the heck out of this.
The risky thing about game companies making joke trailers like this is that the fans might want the fake products
Man, I would Love to see Sherlock Hound get some new loving, it's Miyazaki's greatest work in my opinion.
@bouncer0304 … kinda like? It's directly Referencing Sherlock Hound. Or do you mean you only "Kinda Like" Sherlock Hound? In which case, I am very disappointed…
I want this.
@BLPs Oh c'mon, it's like they were ACTUALLY trying to trick anyone. This is pretty cute
I was so confused watching the first 12 seconds in but this look kind of cool looking.
I could tell right away that it was Sherlock Hound.
@sinalefa Ooh, burn!
(Because, you know, Capcom announcing a new Mega Man game would never happen... sobbing)
OBJECTION!
This would be awesome
Something seems wrong about this, but also strangely right.
@CanisWolfred I've got only one thing to say to this: Porca Menta!!! Okay, that's two.
Good one Capcom.
Well they actually put quite a bit of effort into that one.
This is quite amusing, and I'm definitely looking forward to Takumi's Dai Gyakuten Saiban/Great Ace Attorney. But the one I'm more looking forward to (Which they haven't given much details) the Ace Attorney 6/Gyakuten Kenji 3 that's being developed by the same team behind the Investigations games and Dual Destinies.
I'm no Ace Attourney Fan, but I would've actually bought this.
