With the surprise announcement of Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice arriving on 3DS later this year, we here at Nintendo Life have found our own ways to enjoy the lightning pace gameplay attributed to the Sonic series using Splatoon's brand new Inkbrush weapon.
Check out the video below for a hot, violent injection of all the super speed you'll need, and let us know how you've been finding the new weapon.

I want a new Sonic game.
Are you guys implying that a player will always lose with the Inkbrush? LOL
And that's what always happens when you have a mop man on your team.
Me too, and hopefully a good 3D one without the lives staple.
Edit: Lost World and Rise of Lyric, for me, weren't bad, but Colors was amazing and Generations was dece.
SCREW SONIC BOOM FIRE & ICE! WE HAVE A SPLATOON!
Watching that video now makes me want a Sonic themed map.
Awesome! Ha ha!
Eh...but cool
Nice joke with the music, but also worst way for use an Inkbrush.
I invite every Inkling to NOT learn the basics from Sonic if those are the results!!!
I don't get it.
The Ink brush, much like the Sonic franchise, sucks.
Gotta go fast!
lol
@SuperWiiU I want a GOOD new Sonic game. I don't care if it's for Wii U, 3DS, NX, PS4, X1, whatever—Lost World was fine, but I want something in the vein of Generations again (in the Modern Sonic gameplay). What's really weird though, is that Sonic games are usually on a 2 development cycle (maximum). So with Lost World coming out in 2013, I'm surprised there hasn't been an announcement of the next game, since Sonic Team have been working on it.
@SuperWiiU I want one, too =(
We need Sonic DLC in this game now. lol
I find the Inkbrush extremely powerful, as long as you don't use the line painting attack. I'm consistently at the top of my team, regardless of if my team wins or loses. The only thing that beats an Inkbrush on points are Aerosprays, which are kinda broken.
I've seen some people destroy with the inkbrush, but with that said, I worry when there is more than one in my team. All the weapons and perks have their fair uses, it really just depends on the mode you play on.
Inkbrush is decent in Ranked (quickly inks a path for their team, not too bad up close especially with the right equipment abilities, inkstrike) but terrible in Turf wars. They don't ink fast enough to be too useful in Turf Wars.
While I normally find voice chat makes casual, online gaming quite unpleasant, it looks like the inkbrush fills a character archetype that is mostly useless without some way for a team to communicate - the scout. For example, the Team Fortress 2 scout is crazy fast, has low firepower and range and yet they can beat anybody in a 1 on 1 melee fight. A good scout character can have eyes in the crucial areas of the battlefield before anybody else and take victory objectives when nobody is looking. But, they are mostly useless when aimlessly running about. As there is no way in Splatoon to make an organized match with predecided teams and a way for them to communicate yet, the inkbrush is a way to make a really long pencil line. Not useless, but not exactly overpowered.
I wanted to get good at the paintbrush and have practiced lots with it, but I'm still hopeless with it an lose most matches when I'm using it. I've taken lots of different advice, and tried flicking ink everywhere constantly, as well as making a long ink line, but nothing seems to work with me.
My favourite weapon so far is the Tentatek Splattershot, thought there's still plenty I haven't tried out yet.
Nintendo fanboys- making fun of non-Nintendo franchises since 1985.
LOL. This is well done.
I don't get it...
"Who Needs a New Sonic Game When You Have Splatoon's Inkbrush?"
Oh I dunno, people who want to play a platforming game that hopefully is good (assuming SEGA doesn't screw up again) instead of a crappy third person shooter with broken controls, no voice chat, and a severe lack of content considering it's $60 price point?
By "new Sonic game" I assume we're of course talking about some proper Sonic game that hasn't been announced yet rather than that sequel to Boom they just announced.
Fire and ice.. would be great subtitle for a Mario and Sonic cross over game...
