GameStop has plenty of standard New Nintendo 3DS models in stock, it seems, at least on its website. There are options to buy the hardware alone, or bundles for those ready to spend a little more cash. It seems that the retailer also had a handful of the treasured Majora's Mask limited edition systems left, however, so naturally put them up for sale in a $500 'Massive Bundle'.
As you can see on this product page, the bundle - that was selling for $498.86 but is now gone - included the following.
- A Majora's Mask New Nintendo 3DS XL
- The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D
- The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D special edition guide
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
- Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
- Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
- Eight amiibo - Toon Link, Bowser, Mario, Pikachu, Link, Zelda, Sheik, Kirby
It seems to have been sold out almost as quickly as it appeared, with a few humorous tweets popping up.
There may have only been a few units up for grabs, but apparently some have been happy to put down $500 to get one of these systems, admittedly with a crazy number of extras thrown in.

Doesn't even come with OOT3D.
Considering everything you get... plus the jumpstart on the amiibo collection it isnt a bad deal.
So they are holding some units just so they could profit even more by bundling unwanted items?
Hopefully Nintendo sees this, starts releasing super limited edition 3DS packages for $500+. There are enough craziees out there that will pay, and they can reep the profits and make their investors happy.
"Sold out almost instantly".
Well, what did you expect, really?
Actually looking at how much everything sells for by themselves, that is a solid deal. This is something that Gamestop would usually sell for $941.
Can't say I'm surprised they were hoarding some 3DS XL Majora's Mask models to use like this.
I don't know if I'd put that much money in front for it. I already have two of those ganes and the Kirby Amiibo anyways.
@unrandomsam That's because it's been discontinued. Finding a copy is getting harder and harder.
All I would have gotten out of that would have been the system and MH4U. Oh, and a Mario Amiibo.
Compared to ebay sellers getting the system sold alone for a average price of $400, this is quite a deal, with all the stuff it comes with.
@Ducked I wonder why it is not worth it for them to do a reprint. (They have done at least one).
Other then the system itself there's no real value in this. You're saving nothing, they just want you to buy all that stuff.
@unrandomsam Good point. They might be looking at it.
@darthllama What??? That's pretty much face value for brand new stuff. System sells for 200$ Where do you get 941$
I don't like how gamestop is also joining in the hoarding/scalping game...
...hucksters.
When will this ever stop? I miss the days when pre orders didn't last 5 minutes
@micronean What again??? All they are doing is packaging face value stuff. None of this is gouging.
Look, I'm not trying to defend them here, do the math people. Its all face value. If anything it's 10$ off.
This is why I don't care for GameStop.they take something that someone wants and exploited it to sell more. It wasn't price gouging but it did create sales. People who wanted the new 3DS majora's mask edition were forced or manipulated into buying it. Pretty sneaky. I don't like their business practices.
@Spoony_Tech I have no idea where that $941 number came from, but I just checked MSRP for everything and it literally comes out to exactly $499.
Majora's Mask New 3DS $200
Collector's guide for Majora $35
Four 3DS games ($40 each for a total of $160)
8 amiibo ($13 each for a total of $104)
Considering you're paying the exact price all of this would go separately, I'd say this is a decent enough deal for those interested in it considering you're not likely to find the Majora New 3DS for MSRP anywhere else. A couple of those Amiibo are honestly not super easy to find for MSRP either at this point though they are certainly among the more common ones honestly and a LOT easier to find then the Majora new 3DS.
@KoiTenchi Thank you for having some common sense in here. It's a lost art these days. I had the guide at 40$ in my mind so I was close.
I was just in Gamestop actually less then an hour ago and they have everyone of those Amiibo's. They are getting rid of over stock if anything. More power to them if someone is willing to pay that much.
Imagine how fast the standard New 3DS would sell out.
Way to unload the Amiibo no one was buying! hah!
Nintendo fans are officially being taken to the cleaners now. Simply put: this limited edition is not worth $500 dollars and leave it to a scumbag company like GS to try and charge that. They obviously held back stock to take advantage of demand. Resist these prices Nintendo fans or this situation will only get worse.
Nintendo themselves really need to figure out a better pre-order system because this is ridiculous and is going to bite them in really bad way if this continues. Nintendo themselves should tell GS that this is bs publicly! The next step is for a backlash against Nintendo themselves. I know I'm sick of this crap already and Nintendo's inaction on it.
It should have come with OoT rather than Monster Hunter
@Ducked
Why discontinue an obviously in demand game? Nintendo makes no sense sometimes...
@Chicagoway I couldn't agree more.
If you were planning on buying all that anyways, why not? I could do without the strategy guide but I guess if you were willing to overpay for the special edition system then this would have been great.
The fact that this "deal" does not include OoT3D feels rather odd.
@Spoony_Tech I've been doing a lot of Amiibo hunting and have found some stores have just one or two Toon Links or Shieks while a number of other stores have none at all. Everything else I would totally agree with you iis quite common but I would say those two are at least "uncommon" since I feel there's a pretty good chance they won't be in the first store a person would randomly walk in but can be found when you start to go to a number of different stores. Of course I'll freely admit those figures are nowhere near as rare as something like King Dedede or Ike who I've never even seen on a store shelf at all.
But yeah, everything else besides Toon Link and Shiek I could totally believe is overstock.
@Ducked
You could always download the game.
@Ducked
You could always download the game.
@dkxcalibur That you can. But I always prefer my games physical.
What a strange, random grab bag of goodies. It doesn't even add up to $500 of value either... I don't know why anyone would buy this instead of picking the items they want individually and just paying for those.
@Ducked
I understand. Fair enough.
@CaviarMeths
I saw the same thing. Is the strategy guide like $35+?
@dkxcalibur I pre-ordered it on Amazon for $25.
@Chicagoway Except it is MSRP as stated by someone else in an earlier post. Therefore, unless you think MSRP is unreasonable, this is totally worth $500.
As for OoT 3D being in demand... It's an almost 4 year old game that is actually a remake of a 16 year old game that has been re-released several times in various generations. I doubt that it really was in demand. Rather, the news of it being discontinued likely had some effect. At some point, everything has to go out of print to make room for the new stuff. Plus, this can still be bought on the eShop.
@KoiTenchi
Toon Link and Sheik are pretty common. I have seen both at every Target, Wal Mart, Best Buy and Toy R Us I have been to. But I have heard they are tougher to find in some areas, but they are really common by me.
@Shadowkiller97
I'm not a fan of GS holding the 3DS hostage and only selling it with accessories people might not want. And Nintendo have kept games like Mario Galaxy in print for like a decade that makes it seem like it wouldn't be too hard to do the same thing for OOT, especially releasing a new system with the sequel imo. If people go for this GS "deal" watch how much worse it gets from all the retailers if they know they can pull crap like this.
@Spoony_Tech
It was a sarcastic number thrown out there due to the way Gamestop grossly overprices some of their own items due to inflation
@ShanaUnite
They aren't including OOT due to the hype of its out of production status. They've been selling a lot of inventory at their inflated $50 price tag for used copies.
@KoiTenchi I seen 3 King Dedede's at my local Meijer last week and should've picked it up for collectors sake. I don't care for anything Kirby related. Didn't realize it's that hard to find. A friend of mine was shocked I found one in the store then alone 3.
@CaviarMeths Because you would be hard pressed to find that system as it's the trump card here. As for the rest it's retail price for Gamestop. Sure you can find all the rest cheaper if you look else where but it's pretty fair value and not overpriced.
@CaviarMeths The Majora's Mask guide included in the deal is specifically the collectors edition, not the regular. The regular version has an MSRP of $25 but the collectors has an MSRP of $35. The collectors version actually isn't even available from Amazon direct right now and the minimum amount you can get it from there from a third party seller is a little over $50.
@KoiTenchi
Is it fair to have to pay $500 dollars if you just want the system and not the guide and amiibos?
Next Gamestop deal coming up: Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and Shulk amiibo for $250!
@Chicagoway Again, I think you are blowing it a bit out of proportion. GS sold plenty of MM N3DS's without the bundle.
And Mario Galaxy is an unfair example as full retail titles were not available on the eShop in those days.
@Chicagoway This deal comes with the 3DS with the guide, the 4 games and the amiibos. You're not paying $500 just for the system.
If you're saying you'd prefer to pay $500 for just the Majora's Mask 3DS XL and not be burdened with the 4 games, guide or amiibos, then I've seen plenty of deals for that on eBay but that is not the deal that GameStop is doing.
Would you go to a store having a "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" deal on 3DS games and expect to get a 3DS game for free and explain "but I only wanted the one game for free, why should I have to pay for the other game?"
@Grumblevolcano or, you know, if you want to be make an actual legitimate comparison and not overexaggerate things it would be more like: "Next GameStop deal coming up: Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and Shulk Amiibo for $53!"
@KoiTenchi It's a legit comparison to what they did back in the Wii days with the original Xenoblade Chronicles.
@KoiTenchi
No, I and other people would just like the system for retail price. It's pretty simple. Being forced into buying a bundle is not my idea of a good deal and comes off as pretty sleazy but that's nothing new for GS.
@Shadowkiller97
We can agree to disagree on the GS "deal". But Mario Galaxy is still in print and is a perfectly fair comparison. If the Zelda titles sell well, and they do, then keep them in print for the life of the system. It seems pretty straight forward actually.
@KoiTenchi http://i.imgur.com/gylfXZ2.jpg
@Chicagoway And on this deal, nothing is over retail price.
I had just added to my original post so I understand if you missed it but tell me, would you go to a store having a "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" deal on 3DS games and expect to get a 3DS game for free and explain "but I only wanted the one game for free, why should I have to pay for the other game?"
@CaviarMeths I didn't realize you were talking Canadian cost. I was talking US cost and MSRP. I am sure there is a difference in MSRP So we may very well both be right but I can see why there would be a disconnect.
@Grumblevolcano that was honestly really underhanded and disgusting of them with Xenoblade on Wii (I still can't believe they were selling New copies as Used just to be able to increase the price and profit) but I'm not sure what this has to do with this article where everything is at MSRP.
I'm sure you could sell the stuff besides the system to GameStop for $30 store credit or $8 cash. So $492 for the system, then.
@Chicagoway Like I mentioned before, they did offer the MM N3DS at retail price alone. No one is forcing you to buy the bundle, there are plenty of N3DS systems out there without the additional items. Regardless, this bundle sold out instantly, so clearly they only had a few systems (probably from returns or expired pre-orders). Seeing as how the system by itself sells for far more than MSRP anywhere else it's available (read eBay), this is far from them being sleazy.
Mario Galaxy had a re-print in the Nintendo Selects line and is not available on the eShop. And sitting on store shelves is different from still being in print. It was also a new game, vs OoT which is a remake. Furthermore, the only reason this is getting so much press is because its a Zelda game and collectors have started to panic. As I said, the game is still easily available on the eShop.
@KoiTenchi These products typically cost more in Canada. Every one of those 3DS games is $45, not $40, for instance, and the N3DSXL is $230.
The book was $21 in the US.
@unrandomsam OoT3D is rumored to be discontinued.
@CaviarMeths Literally directly from the page you just linked:
"Amazon has it available for $20.99. With a list price of $34.99, Amazon can save you 40%! Jump for more information from Amazon on this steal of a deal."
AKA Amazon had a special deal where they offered it for $21. The MSRP in the US was and still is $35 which is exactly what I said.
@Shadowkiller97
So what then re print OOT too? And GS is, in fact, forcing people to buy the bundle if they want the system. Are you GS employee or something?
@KoiTenchi
My opinion is GS forcing a bundle that literally is over double of what the system retails for by itself in an attempt to force overstock on people, while charging only retail prices for it, is total bs. And by Nintendo fans buying these ridiculously overpriced bundles and limited editions in the second hand market has now opened the floodgates for more unscrupulous retailers and scalpers to force items on customers and you can bet this won't be the last of this kind of thing but only the beginning. Feel free to disagree but you won't convince me that GS is not being sleazy here because they are. A $500 3DS bundle is obscene from an actual retailer.
I'm so thankful that I was able to get my hands on one in the UK before they sold out (was literally checking Nintendo Store every hour to see when the LE system would pop ever since the direct showed it). Though I do think that while, it is limited edition, Nintendo probably should have made a few more, so as to prevent sad situations like this, where even a retail place, is joining in on the scalping.
@outburst
They've been doing that a lot lately.
After the GC adapter sold out, they relisted with 4 GC controllers as a bundle, then a week later did it again with 2 controllers. When MH4U new3DS sold out, couple weeks later it was back in stock bundled with Smash and 2 Amiibos. When MM LE sold out, it was relisted a week later bundled with the guide, then a week later they relisted the MM new3DS with LE and guide, and now this.
They're most DEFINITELY holding back stock, waiting for high demand after sellout, then bundling with common items to dump in a package.
Freakin GameStop....
@Chicagoway
Which game? You talking about Ocarina? It was discontinued, til they reprinted it last year or the year before, or some time around then. It's not so much "discontinued", it's just had two printed runs and what's out there is out there. Most of the demand for that game has been satiated- and there's still plenty unsold copies floating around. To do another reprint would just be squandering money, because not even all the copies from the second print run have been sold. Can't just keep printing a game forever. Usually they'll print one run, and if demand exceeds supply and there's still quite a bit of money to be made, they'll do a second run, which they did with Ocarina. The game has run its course- most 3DS owners who want it own it, and for those that don't there's still more than enough copies floating around.
@JaxonH
I know what's next on May:
Shulk amiibo mega bundle with Xenoblade 3D game, game guide, codename Steam game, Mario, Peach, Luigi, Yoshi amiibo and red N3DS XL.
@Chicagoway
One little problem with that, everything in the bundle is brand-new, so it isn't influencing the second-hand market at all. Not only that, but bundling isn't new there anyway, go on ebay or craigslist and you'll see plenty of console bundles.
This bundle isn't obscene either, $100 more than a console your getting a New 3DS XL, 4 games, 8 Amiibo which the 3DS can read, and a collectors guide, that's A LOT of stuff. A much better value than just a console and 2 games imo.
Yea, its a lot of money, but its not really sleazy. Sleazy would be bundling the 3DS, Majora's Mask, and the collector's edition book together and charging $500. There's no price-tag trickery going on here, they're just offering more than some people might want.
@JaxonH
Yes, Ocarina. I just bought a New 3DS for my brother who is stationed overseas. No eShop access where he is and can't find a new physical copy for under $100. Frustrating but will probably buy the overpriced copy and send it to him with MM. He deserves it.
@Zombie_Barioth
If you really believe that then you have no idea how those markets influence each other. If the second hand market wasn't getting huge prices for these limited editions in the first place then GS wouldn't even attempt to sell this bundle at this price or in this way. I'm sorry you really have no idea what you're talking about and I don't really want to argue with people white knighting for GS. Give me a break.
@micronean Retail value is about $484 for that stuff. Totally scalping
I got lucky and got one of these. I'd rather pay $500 for a great Bundle like this than $400 for a zelda 3ds system with nothing from those idiot ebay scalpers.
@Chicagoway Haha, no, I am not a GS employee, nor do I have any love for them. Heck, I can't even remember the last time I bought anything from them.
My only point was that of all the shady things GameStop pulls... this is hardly one of them. Bundles have been around since as long as I can remember. Limited items will be bundled with other things at retail price. Overstocked items will be bundled at a discount. And it isn't just GameStop... every retailer tends to do this.
@Chicagoway Ah sorry, I see why physical is so important to you. But at the same time it is almost four years old so you can't fault Nintendo too much for that. Maybe if you haven't sent the N3DS yet, you could download it to the system from the eShop before sending it.
That's reallly dumb! Considering you can get a Wii U for 225$ on Nintendo Store, why would you pay 500$ for a portable console?!
I managed to get it at retail because nobody but two other people went to target. Camped out 11pm to 8am. Was totally worth it. Gotta say I do feel horrible that there wasn't enough stock for all the fans.
@Shadowkiller97
Yeah that's an idea about downloading Ocarina and then sending it. I might download Kid Icarus for him as that's another expensive game to buy now. I refuse to shop at GS and don't want to buy used online.
holy shat!
Nice, take a super sought-after item and bundle it with $300 of other stuff so people have to buy the whole thing if they want the system. One reason I don't support Gamestop.
I remember the manager at my Best Buy tried these exact obligatory bundle shenanigans when the DS came out and I'm pretty sure he got fired.
@Chicagoway Literally found a stack of Toon Link amiibo at Walmart on Saturday. Expected him to be rare, but I suppose not.
@Chicagoway "Why discontinue an obviously in demand game? Nintendo makes no sense sometimes..." Isn't it obvious? because it's the @Chicagoway.
@Chicagoway
Sorry, I though you meant it the other way around, as in the "that's what the retailers are doing" excuse. My point still stands though, this is quite normal in the second-hand market already. Heck, NL has already reported on a few.
Funny though how disagreeing with someone makes you a white knight.
No, all I'm saying is just because you don't like something, doesn't make it sleazy. There were no tricks, whoever bought it knew exactly what they were getting, and for how much. They paid $500 and actually got $500 worth of stuff.
@Chicagoway One difference between keeping galaxy and OoT in stock. One of them can he bought through the eShop.
This upsets me because my Majora's Mask New 3DS arrived in damaged condition (they accidentally shipped it in a box without any bubble wrap or packing material, so the console's box was all scraped up from sliding around in the shipping box, which destroyed its potential as a collector's item). When I contacted GameStop about it, I was told that they didn't have any more in stock, and so they could not replace it and could only refund the original purchase price. Now I see that they did have more systems, but they were planning on selling them for boatloads of money. That's messed up.
All of these items would retail for $514 separately under the assumption the guide is valued about $20 conservatively so it's not a amazing deal but if you didn't have a 3ds that'd be quite the setup.
if this was part of the deal im sure i would have bought the console again
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Wii-U-Amiibo-CUSTOM-Ganondorf-Link-Base-/111619346275?
@outburst Who the hell said they were unwanted items.
Oh GameStop. You never cease to amaze (and in your case that's usually not a good thing).
How is it in America u order Zelda 3ds get everything cheap and in Australia 4 250 just get a console . Ive never been so disappointing b4 and will not buy another Nintendo product.
Gamestop is evil and needs to be put out of it's misery already. It uses exclusives which prevents other stores from having exclusives. In my own opinion you should avoid them at all costs. Even if your looking for rare games in the wild. GS is no longer an clean place to shop. It more like an horrible memory of world long dead
